Can someone please report the email addresses here to Tutanota, Yandex, and AOL for abuse? The question is off-topic but the email addresses are being used for ransomware so it's important they be disabled.

5:17 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I can do that, but I don't have high hopes for success
why are you asking someone else to do it, though?

@tripleee Busy IRL, plus I'm not that experienced in writing abuse reports

@KevinB 8? Don't they have 4 blades?

@JourneymanGeek not always :p

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog writing them is easy; finding where to send is typically somewhere between thankless busywork and physically impossible
sent email to abuse@ all three; let's see - typically these days they want you to fill in a form where you promise them the rights to your firstborn child and offer no guarantees - in practical terms, the best-case scenario is you don't receive a bounce message or an ignorebot which tells you to use a different and even more difficult process

their web site contained a submission form so I copy/pasted my message there, I had to click some checkboxes with untranslated Russian text on them (the form was mainly in English) so now I really don't know what I have promised to them

@tripleee your soul, the rights to your body... its unclear whether you need to die first, and you'll be getting your conscription papers shortly...

7:02 AM
the first one of Sonic's two meta reports above is still up, too ^^^

@ShadowTheKidWizard here's a link to the feature-request :) meta.stackexchange.com/q/383823/997587

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I've edited to spotlight the things you mentioned (although in less detail, leaving the detail to the linked MSO post) you can see if you feel okay to delete your comments on my MSE post. Entirely up to you. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the info and that I added it to the post.

What does she drink and why? ^
@starball thanks, I'll think about how to answer. But anyway, don't build your hopes too high, even excellent and super popular (100+ score) requests take long long time until SE even considers doing them. They work by a long-range plan in the recent years.
But this should not stop us from trying and asking. :)
@tripleee flagged, still up. Which is ironic a bit, spammer being soft.
:D

nuked

Poor spammer
Hello @Dial
@tripleee huh? What's wrong with Yandex?
Think they moved their activity to Israel at some point.

@ShadowTheKidWizard hmm?

@DialFrost hello!
A welcome is a kind of greeting designed to introduce a person to a new place or situation, and to make them feel at ease. The term can similarly be used to describe the feeling of being accepted on the part of the new person. In some contexts, a welcome is extended to a stranger to an area or a household. "The concept of welcoming the stranger means intentionally building into the interaction those factors that make others feel that they belong, that they matter, and that you want to get to know them". It is also noted, however, that "[i]n many community settings, being welcoming is viewed as...

7:53 AM
oh Yandex appears to be dying. :(
@DialFrost how r u?

@ShadowTheKidWizard I'm okay if there's a long wait. I'm also okay if it never gets implemented (at least in this case). I mainly want to throw an idea out there that I personally think has value, and let the community decide if they agree.

@ShadowTheKidWizard okish

@DialFrost good-ish

@ShadowTheKidWizard I'll keep it up as long as I think of ideas that I think are valuable. I'll also keep reading existing feature requests.

@starball yeah that's the essence of meta feature requests. ;)
@starball awesome!

7:55 AM
hi dial!
coffee or tea? :D

@ShadowTheKidWizard like the error message says, the mailbox abuse@yandex.com is full and cannot receive new messages

@starball tea :3

!!tea

@starball brews a cup of passionfruit tea for @starball

ayy I did it (my first time using that command)
sorry I spilt the first one

7:59 AM
@tripleee sign of dying company, yeah. And maybe also people spamming it because, well, Russia.
@starball you made the tea for yourself, though. Here is how you make tea for others:

@ShadowTheKidWizard brews a cup of Darjeeling tea for @Dial

@ShadowTheKidWizard looks like a brand called Balaklava eng.winestyle.ru/products/Balaklava-Brut-Reserve-1500.html
googled Russian sparkling wines for a bit
as for why, probably to unseat those horrible fascists

@ShadowTheKidWizard gosh DARNIT D:< *drinks own tea angrily

8:07 AM
as for why they would name their sparkling wine after commando headgear ... really, I'm at a loss
... although, with the Ukrainian flags, maybe they are Ukrainian girls celebrating a local victory over the Russians? No context

@tripleee nice find! :D
@tripleee yep. The liberation of one of their towns.

good stuff then

yeah
@starball :P

8:29 AM
@JNat cross site spammer with many answers that appear legit, but they are 1) not related to the questions, and 2) copy and paste from spam sites, so pretty sure deserving to be considered spam.

@tripleee flagged, pity, nice logo. ;)

Law.SE moderation seems to be ... different, shall we say.

Flagged "Ah woke people, always attempting to change definitions to suit their religious views" as simply "no longer needed" (even though it's also fairly offensive) - declined.

Flagged "Gee, I wonder if Activision-Blizzard, a multibilllion-dollar company with an arsenal of lawyers at their disposal, thought about whether this is legal to do before doing it. Really an incredibly pertinent question that obviously cannot have been considered by their legal team and can obviously only be answered by this site. /s" as unfriendly - dec

@NotThatGuy don't mind comments, they're third class citizens, they don't make much noise, so unless they're offensive I'd better let them be, or just mass delete all old comments at some point.
With millions upon millions of comments, cleaning them all up is impossible task.
The second comment is unfriendly indeed though, if you care enough post on the meta site.
(Law meta, not MSE.)

@ShadowTheKidWizard I tend to be quite selective in flagging things. The only comments I've ever flagged on the law site are the 2 comments above.

9:14 AM
@NotThatGuy fair, and noble in a way. :)
Good chance the second comment would get nuked if you start meta discussion, sometimes it's just one grumpy mod who prefer to not work hard.
(and approving comment flags is a risk to open a flood of such flags.)

it's... literally the same amount of clicks to decline the flag or delete the comment (one)

@Mithical not relevant, giving the approval on one would make the flagger cast 100 more, that's probably the way of thinking.
And handling 100 flags is already not easy.

For the last couple years I've been posting reminders for the team to post yearly moderation stats on this day of the year (November 16). Should I do it again?

Nah. Just wait until February, if it isn't posted by then, that means it's time for a reminder.

One positive for posting it is to remind the team to make any necessary changes to the scripts they use to make the posts so they work upon the beginning of the new year. Every year there's been at least one system change that necessitated modifying the scripts, plus reminders of feature requests from the prior year so they don't get missed (nearly one year later from the time they were filed)
Also, when Shog ran the posts, he was sure to post them immediately on the beginning of the new year (because all that's needed to post them is run a script), but afterwards, there's been a delay of up to two weeks. A couple of days I can understand (as it's a holiday) but they should at least be run the first working day since.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog why? And did they actually ever did it?

@ShadowTheKidWizard Yes

Q: 2020: a year in moderation

JNat As we say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new one, we have a tradition of sharing moderation stats for the past 12 months. "they should at least be run the first working day since." > No, there is no obligation to do this at all. The posts are nice to have, but there is no SLA saying this data needs to be made available to the community on the first work day after New Year's.

9:40 AM
Well, I don't think a reminder post would be useful, but a post asking if the team still intends to continue those posts would still be, given that 1. the employee who started the tradition, Shog9, no longer works for SE, and 2. there's a push to move to real-time statistics

Sounds like one of those things that gets too complex, taking too much dev time, and eventually ditched silently. So I won't build my hopes too high.

A yes/no question leaves the possibility open for a "no" answer while a reminder would sound pushy

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog no harm asking, IMO

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I feel like public real time statistics for moderation feels like a terrible idea

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog meta.stackexchange.com/q/356688/369802 < You have already asked that question.

9:42 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard Absolutely right. Most sites depend on this info, but in my view it's not something to take for granted that the team will post them

and as for the year in moderation - its a nice to have but hardly essential

There is really no need to go ask the yes/no question each year.

@Tinkeringbell The answer to that question only covers 2020. A comment from the answerer states the answer may be different in future years.

No, it does not cover only 2020, it quite literally talks about the future as well.

Asking whether a past answer is still accurate is still a fair question to ask. I also can't get past the presence of a comment which implies the answer may be different in the future.

9:45 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog depend? How?

As an example, there's an old question asking when the SO in German site would launch, and an old answer stating it would be in 2011.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog You can post a comment if you really can't just wait until January/February to see if the past answer is still accurate. There really is no use in bugging staff each year to check if their past answer is still valid, if you have no reason to believe it would not have changed. Such a reason would be the moderation posts not being up by the end of February 2023.
It doesn't need a whole new question/answer pair. Just wait to see if anything seemingly has changed, and if it seems so, you can always ask. There's no need to go asking pre-emptively.

I see. That makes sense. For my later 2021 request I had a rationale, namely that staff comment, but this year, nothing specific has changed. So I've posted a comment on the answer there.

@JitendraSingh huh? From where?
You mean chat ban?
Oct 22, 2021 at 10:13, by Jitendra Singh
Ah! Finally I can chat after a short ban
BTW, you SO chat profile is broken, if you want to use it, better ask a mod to kick it.
Result of account merge, most likely.

Prompting for a username and password is so 2005. Today, you can just prompt for a fingerprint.

🚽

No, this is good. This would make identifying sock puppets so much easier :P
Just collect 10 fingerprints of everyone that wants an account.

@Feeds ultra complex way to track your users down.
Having their fingerprint, you'll be able to know virtually everything about them.
Or sell to hackers that can use this info.
@Tinkeringbell people will ask friends for a fingerprint.
Won't even ask why duplicated reason lol.

@ShadowTheKidWizard Well those friends would be tremendously stupid to give that away, but I also wasn't saying to discard all other methods to track socks :P

3:17 PM
@Tinkeringbell bros will do anything for each other. ;)

Not really. I asked my brothers so many times to just clean things up, and they still didn't.

LOL
Not real brother. Bro.
It's much stronger.
Let's see if it works.
@M.A.R. bro, give me your fingerprint please.
waiting

Ah yeah. Dictionary definition says a bro is a "young, usually white male variously and often negatively characterized as being preppy, party-loving, egotistical, sexist, etc.". Egotistical doesn't really seem to fit your 'bro' idea, but it does match the brothers.

hahaha
Anyway...
Bros is a 2022 American romantic comedy film directed by Nicholas Stoller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Billy Eichner, who also stars and executive produces. Stoller, Judd Apatow, and Joshua Church are producers on the film. The film also stars Luke Macfarlane, Ts Madison, Monica Raymund, Guillermo Díaz, Guy Branum, and Amanda Bearse. It is among the first gay romantic comedies released by a major studio, and features an openly LGBTQ+ principal cast. Bros had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2022, and was theatrically released in the United...
hey why no picture? :(
But still, see? They'd do anything for one another. :D

'It is among the first gay romantic comedies'... yeah, I don't do 'romantic comedy'.
Not going to read any further :P

3:25 PM
@Tinkeringbell no need, that's fine

@ShadowTheKidWizard Yeah

@JitendraSingh how many chat bans you had already then? Three?

3:50 PM
@Mith how's the bidud going? You do constructive things? ;)

no
my brain feels like scrambled eggs
the most productive thing I've done is nuke a bunch of spammers on AI and Lit

@Mithical that's awesome!
I'm at a total loss here, Smokey. @tripleee any idea what the above means?
Smokey bug, someone misclicked something to make useless spam reason?
I can get when there's link hidden somewhere, but "Obfuscated word"?!

@ShadowTheKidWizard Sadly yes
Well it was not a chat ban. My account on MSE was suspended

hmm but there's really a bug, don't remember ever seeing spam with weight of 0 posted here. @RyanM anything can be done to fix it so that non-spam (i.e. weight of 0) won't be posted here?

probably a bug

3:59 PM
yup
@JitendraSingh oh, I see. Well, welcome back and hope it won't happen again!
@KevinB you mean this being posted here, I checked up and the spam reason isn't new, there are many, but only in the experiments room. Fire Department.

sure

Anyway think there's any point reporting that the blogs onebox is now using an incorrect author name?
The most likely outcome is they'll just nuke that onebox.
Which.... is maybe for the best...

@ShadowTheKidWizard the reason probably isn't properly flagged as experimental

@Mithical but the bug is new, past cases were not posted here.

Right; the bug would be that the reason isn't marked as "experimental" properly. Reports that are experimental-reasons-only are supposed to be excluded from being posted to the Tavern.

4:11 PM
Indeed.
!!/blame

@ShadowTheKidWizard It's Mithical's fault.

@Mith the scrambled eggs feeling is because of the COVID, or because of being closed in small space and bored?
