o/
How are you Tink, long time since I last saw you
Today, I'm slow and tired. I just had three weeks of vacation, last week was the first one I worked again. :) And you?
Yeah getting rested from the weekend again xD
Been back working 2 weeks now, feels like an eternity though.
07:07
XD My first week went by rather fast. But I imagine this week can be one of those eternal weeks, as my coworker is on vacation now so I will have to hande everything that comes up.
@Tinkeringbell but if nothing comes up you get to do nothing xD
Hahaha wish that were true. There's some excellent coding to be done, putting numbers into an excel sheet XD
I need to go write some unit tests today, I'm procrastinating
07:23
Wow, never knew we get to this. Some people benchmarked 27 programming languages on basis of energy efficiency
hmm looking nice but I don't trust it to be really accurate or mean anything important. More like bells and whistles and fancy graphs made by people who want to impress.
But... meh, even if accurate, what can we do? Switch to C to save the world? :P
@tripleee pity that was a nice scooter. Anyhow, poofed.
07:49
@ShadowTheKidWizard They used 10 programming problems to compare all languages, and benchmarked that.
@Luuklag so I was correct, it's useless in the wide, real-life sense. Vast majority of JS coding isn't meant to solve complex programming problems, for example. It's used for simple, instant, tasks.
So saying "JavaScript takes x4.5 more energy than C" is just misleading.

On Meta Stack Exchange, there are several posts about the "Email me new responses to my posts" feature - they say the checkbox should be displayed when I am about to post the question (or answer).
And they even show some screenshots - but I do not see that checkbox when I try it myself.
Was this feature removed at some point?
yeah, let me find my answer about it...
(There's some condition)
I will add that I receive email with my global inbox notifications - I am not sure whether this setting might influence the "Email me new responses to my posts" option in some way.
Other then the option for global inbox, I do not see among Email Settings anything that looks like it could be related to this.
@Martin yes! If you have the "Inbox" setting on in the email settings page, you won't see the "Email me new responses" checkbox.
Oh, I see.
I can't find the answer I wrote for some reason, maybe it was in chat, not sure.
08:16
So the option still exist - but to see it I would have to opt out from the global inbox notification.
That's good to know.
@Martin yeah, but it makes sense: why getting double emails? Though this can be written somewhere just to prevent such confusion.
I can imagine that somebody might want both.
But even if you say that it make sense - common sense is not always a good indicator about how things in Stack Exchange actually work. :-)
To clarify why I think someone might one both: Global inbox has all responses. But sometimes a user might be interested in one question that is especially relevant for them - so they might want to see replies to that one "singled out".
Of course, it is not that important. The important thing is that I have learned from you how that option actually works.
Thanks once again!
See you later - and have a nice day!
As a test I tried using a different account - so it seems that the checkbox is indeed there:
Probably I should have figured that out by myself. (As you said, it would certainly be nice it this was documented somewhere. OTOH, this feature probably isn't used that often.)
Now I noticed a comment mentioning this - I am not sure how I missed it before:
@NogShine Sure, I'm not saying otherwise, but the checkbox doesn't appear unless you have those emails turned off and I (and OP it seems) had them on (despite never turning them on or ever receiving an email; which I guess was messed up at some point when they recently made changes to email notifications) — Cai Jun 4, 2018 at 9:09
09:03
@Martin yeah, I was also baffled at first, so used the trial and error approach, it's not something one can just know/guess. :)
But it's nagging me I can't find where I said it before.
Well, found official answer: (She was SE staff when writing that answer)

A: Receive emails for responses to posts

LauraThe "send me new responses to my posts via email" is the exact same feature as "email me my unread inbox messages". Because the email settings are buried pretty deep in your profile, we wanted to surface them in the context where they probably matter most to the majority of users: when you're ask...

So, turns out the checkbox cause to get emails for all posts, better start feature request asking to change that...

Any of the mods have a minute to spare to nuke this troll? meta.stackexchange.com/posts/381600/revisions
@Luuklag lol, give a dude a moment
hehe
09:40
mom-ent
10:09
@JNat hope you enjoy your time off! Anyhow, cross site spammers don't rest. Have fun! :D
And so the backlog is slowly built again... :)
10:22
@Luuklag Probably a dead one, by now.
Is it the SE app tho? (No Offence) but she's a new user, and there's quite a few hoops to getting it running nowadays including finding the actual app. I'm doubtful that's the case too — Journeyman Geek ♦ 13 mins ago
@JourneymanGeek 1) I'm 99.99% sure it's off topic, 2) "she"? Just because the model stock photo? :D
I'd even say it's spammer, the name leads to some very shady things.
@ShadowTheKidWizard more that I doubt anyone who is new would use the app
as such it cant be a SE app question
@JourneymanGeek umm
@JourneymanGeek exactly
My guess? Spammer copy&paste some common error message to make it appear legit. And it works, alongside with the sexy avatar, they got upvote(s).
lol
and the name of an actual person
@JourneymanGeek playboy model according to Instagram.
10:29
hmm
So unless she's also programmer, doubt it's her. More likely just fake, like all the rest. (Avatar, posts.)
lol
I mean, could be
You can be smoking hot, and smart... but... in this case...
yeah, dodgy
Well, not worth nuking yet, but chances for this to be legit user are... lower than low.
@JourneymanGeek Smokey hot
:D
oh you did it
Well, r.i.p someone who's most likely spammer... :D
well, this one was heavier than a feather. Or was it a duck
@JourneymanGeek hmm? Lost you now. ;(
10:34
lol
eaten by crocodiles!
Maybe geese!
wondering if @Journeyman is actually @Rob in disguise
:P
But.. nah, you two are unclear in so many ways, when you're unclear, it can't be.
And Rob is unclear around 80% of the times, while Mr. Geek maybe 20%.
So you two actually complete each other!

1 hour later…
Its only been an hour lol
12:05
3600 seconds!
But also, overall activity today. :D

1 hour later…
13:11
next Tumbleweed in 6-8 hours
Well it's not like I'm seeing great conversation starters in here...
13:28
Hey!
So...
@Tink hey, how's the weather at your place?
:D
Comfortable. Though I did just close all doors, windows and the sunscreen as it was getting hotter outside than in XD
Probably only need to live like this for a few hours more though, I think by 7PM I can open everything up again :)
It's pretty dry. We need rain.
And there?
13:42
@Tinkeringbell heh, that's nice. Natural A/C! ;)
@Tinkeringbell hot, hotter, hottest.... yesterday was hottest, heat wave will be until Thursday, only then back to "average" which is 30 degrees Celsius. Yesterday was 36, I think.
Can't survive without A/C here, luckily everyone already got one, and all public places/transportation. Still, people have to walk outside, and that's a tough task. :D
13:58
@ShadowTheKidWizard O.o
They're predicting more hot weather for this week here, but nothing much above 25, luckily.
Normal here would be a max of 21.4 and a min of 12.9 :D
So it's been above average hot pretty much all month, with the exception of the last three days, maybe.
@Tinkeringbell nah all good we're used to it. This way, felt at home while in London couple of weeks ago. ;)
30+ Celcius
@Tinkeringbell yeah that's what I remember as typical weather for Europe as whole.
But climate changes and global warming cause it to get insane.
Yeah, it's really getting ridiculous.
I can only hope it's all just temporary glitch in Earth's weather, that will get fixed on its own soon. :D
Nah. We're f-ed.
14:16
:9287176 k
@Tinkeringbell lol
Fed?
As in federal?
Or, well fed? ;)
14:41
I'm not going to take the bait. I know you know
15:03
Fried
sometimes boiled, and occationally rinised.
Our proverbial goose, it cooked
15:22
@Tinkeringbell innocent face
You're hard to troll, @Tink ;((
:(
@JourneymanGeek poor goose
Does he at least have a gooses to accompany him in dark days?
@ShadowTheKidWizard I had dinner to look forward to, so that makes it easier not to bite other things :P
15:38
@Tinkeringbell dinner so early? Isn't it 5:40pm for you now?
I'm having dinner only at 9:30pm every day, know it's late, but average from the few people I know is around 7 ;)
@ShadowTheKidWizard What Europe are you talking about? This cold in summer could be at night. Unless it's Norway or something
@Mithoron England, France, etc. But yeah, Norway/Finland are much colder.
France where people were dying from heat some years ago?
@ShadowTheKidWizard Yep. Breakfast at 9-ish, lunch at 13, dinner at 17. Then some fruit in the evening if I get a bit peckish, though more often just because the fruit needs to be eaten or it goes to waste.
Anyhow, I might go eat Smoky tomorrow! Leftovers from Saturday already finished, and really want to give it a try, even though it cost a fortune. :P
15:42
Now I'm no longer living at home dinner is a bit later than 17, actually
It's few minutes away from my workplace.
@Tinkeringbell wow that's different from my schedule, but guess it's better as it means no junk in between like I'm having, e.g. I ate mini-magnum just now. D:
@ShadowTheKidWizard Well these days it doesn't matter what you have for dinner. It all costs a fortune.
@Mithoron well, I talk about total average, not the heat waves we're getting more and more in recent years due to global warming. (:
@ShadowTheKidWizard Yeah uhhhh .... Of course this is a very healthy eating pattern, and I got to be morbidly obese from breathing! It's all just air!
@Tinkeringbell why?
@Tinkeringbell sadly, too true...
@Tinkeringbell lol well you surely eat better things than me. And yet I somehow dropped 3kg in the last half year. Wife is on diet for couple of months now and wanted to brag, she lost 7kg and was sure I gained some (well, I was sure). Anyway, at least she lost more than me, otherwise I wouldn't be here now.
:D
15:47
@ShadowTheKidWizard No more "dad comes home so mom has dinner ready". If I'm feeling like it, I might cook something that takes more time and isn't ready at 17 ;)
@Tinkeringbell huh. Nice! I guess? :)
@ShadowTheKidWizard Define "better" XD. I eat way too much junk on weekends, and if I were to count calories for whole days of doing nothing, it would probably suffice to just have breakfast XD
Well when wife is away and I'm having dinner on my own, I also do it much later, 10pm and even later. Or just skip it. lol
@Tinkeringbell hmm, I'll make a list! Tomorrow, got to go now. Cya! :D
@ShadowTheKidWizard Sometimes. More often I prefer to just cook a bunch of simple stuff during the weekend and microwave during the week XD
Cya!
