@Feeds Episode 6-8: Kidnapping a Onebox

2 hours later…
07:00
@Tinkeringbell huh, lol. Well it's also nice to make same simple thing every week. ;)
@tripleee -9 (!) and still up :/
Travelers either don't flag as spam or flag and adding a manual downvote.
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Yeah, fair. I do a lot of simple cooking too, the fancier stuff is for the weekends if and when I feel I have the time for it :)
07:16
@Tinkeringbell nice. What about when you visit your parents? They cook?
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Usually, yes (if I'm around at dinnertime). But then we mostly eat junkfood anyways, so either they cook or we get stuff delivered/takeout.
I make the rice when coming to family lunch with my mother and rest of the family.
@Tinkeringbell lol
So they don't like to cook or not good at it? ;)
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Sounds like you know what to bring
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Ehhh. It's a bit more complicated XD
Ever since the dementor died, grandma is being very, very, very clingy. So about each Friday, she calls mom/dad and asks if they will eat fries that night, and if she can come over too.
Most often, mom then invites me so the dinner is somewhat survivable and less awkward (grandma doesn't talk while eating, mom doesn't want grandma to overhear most of the stuff she discusses with dad over dinner).
So I get flown in to basically fill half an hour with mindless chatter (it's hard!)
Every once in a while I go over for something healthier :) Mom likes cooking, and she has a few new cookbooks with recipes that aren't half bad :D
07:22
lucky you
the dementor, sounds like they were lovely people...
@Luuklag I basically thought things would get better (especially for mom/dad as the main 'mantelzorgers') once the dementor died, but... I think it's still the same, probably even a bit worse.
Because now your grandmother needs the attention?
My mother in law put her own mother into a nursing home a few months back, that really made a huge difference
@Luuklag sure, my sister tells me. ;)
@Tinkeringbell oh, I see.
@Tinkeringbell can imagine, but you're strong, mentally! :D
@Luuklag Doesn't 'need' the attention, but claims it anyways. She's still perfectly capable of doing her own things, but she refuses to and instead wants to be visited basically every hour of the day.
Like, it's not dangerous to leave her alone.
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Meh. It's not so much strength as stubbornness.
And hating silent meals.
She might just be lonely?
07:26
Yes, probably.
At least that's what she claims, even after being visited by all her kids.
@Tinkeringbell kind of the same outcome though. :)
Or perhaps she just doesn't like to be by herself in her house, seeing there might be loads of memories there
@Luuklag Nah. They moved into a senior apartment just before he died, so the memories are all in another place XD
well yeah, we can keep guessing, but we won't solve anything with that
Exactly. I'll leave the guessing to the mental health professionals :)
07:43
@Tinkeringbell OLEDS are pricy tho
so a smaller one makes sense
08:18
Yeah. I didn't get an OLED because honestly, I couldn't really see the difference in the shop, OLEDS are apperently less energy efficient (despite claims otherwise, a consumer rights organisation in the NL researched it and reached a difference of >25% compared to same sized led/lcd screens) and they are much more expensive, so I got myself a nice lcd/led TV XD

hello
:o it's mith
how are things
things are... thinging
I adopted a third diamond
that's one more than me :D
aside from that, not much has changed - still in the military
how's everyone's favorite catcus?
12:15
@Magisch o/
@Tinkeringbell hi
I'm good
Lots of reading these days
what kind of reading?
@Mithical fantasy almost exclusively
but I'm mostly reading in my free time now, less anything else
oh? I've been going through a Pratchett phase recently
I've been scouring royal road for good content
12:29
I'm not familiar with that
It's a self publishing site for web serials, with a lot of content on it
I think i'm growing out of gaming as a hobby lately, I've almost only been reading
every time I think about getting into games again I think of all the stuff on my to read list that I haven't had time for
I think it's not unusual for focuses to shift if you have multiple hobbies. I haven't touched a crochet hook since moving, but I have been doing a lot more gaming and binging documentaries. I might start crochet again later, or switch to reading too... Wouldn't think too much about it if I were you ;)
How has it been for you
Still a bit busy with the new place from time to time (like this weekend, dad, neighbor and I will build a fence, and I have some gardening to do). Getting to the point where I'm done with the other neighbor's antics. Work can be really chaotic, or lovely quiet, but seems to have no inbetween. The apartment is always hot, and I can't really get it to cool down properly. I'm still fat but healthy. And what I wrote above, my days are mostly filled with work, and TV/games.
I'll be getting an 'afdak'... no clue what to call it, something like google.com/… but with the sides closed ... sometime in the week after next week.
Does your apartment have AC?
If not, i'd invest in some. Summers are liable to get hotter in the future
I spent like 700€ on portable AC for my apartment, and it works wonders in the otherwise really heated apartment (top floor so it's always 2-3C warmer then ambient without cooling
12:40
@Magisch Not yet. And I want to wait/see a bit to see what it does if I do have the 'afdak', it should also keep a bit of the direct sunlight out of the living room and prevent it heating up as soon as the sun comes up, I guess. I have a screen at the front, and I need to find a solution for the window pane in the front door (I can't get a screen in front of it, and the HOA probably doesn't get happy if I just use masking tape and old newspapers XD)
But I might get a portable one next year, if I have everything in place and things still don't want to stay cool. In theory though, I shouldn't need one as I should be able to keep heat in as well as heat out.
There are specialized curtains you can affix directly to the inner window. Outwardly they look silver (made for reflecting sunlight) we use those in the office to great effect
Yeah I definitely want to try a curtain. But I talked to another user on IPS chat this week that insisted it's really ineffective XD
I have some foil on the window pane now, that's also supposed to keep out UV and heat.
The office space my coworkers are in has 2 windows that face the midday sun, so before they got the curtains it was pretty nightmarish, but after they got them the curtains keep most of the heat out
I can feel it's working (the doormat doesn't get as hot anymore) but there's also definitely still heat coming in that way. Doesn't help that the door itself is warped, so the seal there is definitely not airtight.
@Magisch Yeah. My mom has a curtain like it too, for the front door at my parents' place. It definitely makes a difference if you ask me. :)
Personally for home I have blackout curtains (the same ones) and a personal AC unit hooked up to a cable and a thermometer output that only turns on if it's over 23° in the part of my room where I sit
12:44
The user on IPS chat kept insisting that heat would get behind the curtain, and in the curtain, and then still radiate through the apartment. And I guess some of it will, I'm just not going to call it as ineffective as they did.
Thats working fairly well and has no noticable impact on my electricity bills
I do have a blackout curtain, but I mostly just use the screen on the outside.
@Tinkeringbell This is true but heavily dependant on which kind of curtain you use
(in de bedroom, that is). For the living room, all I have now are some light curtains, and I might see if the 'afdak' helps or get some heavier curtains/screens there too.
A normal curtain (just black cloth) will make things worse then no curtains
But there are special curtains designed to reflect instead of absorb sunlight
12:45
You can get sunscreens for the 'afdak', they will go just below the roof. But those are expensive, so the earliest I would be able to buy those would probably be the year after next year.
@Magisch Yep, they have a special liner. I know :)
I think I paid like 30€ off amazon for mine?
Hmm. Not sure if I want to buy a ready-made one from amazon yet, or get something made to size and (often) have a bit more choice in fabric colors. Also if I do that, I can probably take home samples and see which colors fit or don't :)
For now, fence first, then 'afdak', then... I think finishing the backyard, so I can take a summer vacation and spend some time enjoying that. But then we're probably talking about September already.
If that. Like I said, one of the neighbors has antics, including his motto 'you need to be considerate of me' instead of 'we need to be considerate of each other' :P
just cover it in foil, and claim you're blocking 5G radiation
then you can find out who your crazy neighbours are
@Magisch hm, I was planning on black blockout curtains :D
granted I'm at least a year and quarter out from the current official completion date :(
13:23
@JourneymanGeek but 6E is coming! Oh, we're doomed!
ah but that runs on 5g
At this rate, foil won't be able to keep up. I need an underground bunker with reinforced concrete.
13:43
7Z
Are we into random letter+digit combo game?
;)
OOoh, then I want 1908
And as a letters... A and M
13:59
?
7:08am is pretty early, I brush my teeth every day in this time. (Waking up at 7)
oh wait but 1908 is 7:08 pm
:D
Lemme know once you figured it out ;)
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar No such command '1908'.
14:50
Just dropping by - been a while since I've been in.
Including a 2 week spell in hospital.
For a heart transplant in the first half of May :)
@ColeValleyGirl ah
erf about the hospital, semi yay for the heart transplant...
@JourneymanGeek Better than the alternative -- I'm already feeling the improvement.
yup
hence the semi yay
@ColeValleyGirl oh wow, congrats! Glad you're still with us, must be still very tough. Body needs lots of time to adjust to such drastic change, for sure. Well done! :)
You manage to work already?
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Yes. Apparently the average stay in hospital is 4 weeks, and it can be much longer, but I escaped after 16 days and am getting back into the swing of things. There will be bumps in the road, and a lot of lifestyle adjustments to make, but I feel so much better, it's worth it.
15:34
I think this is the only appropriate reason to use 💖
@rene I think you're right
;)
15:51
@ColeValleyGirl that's just like you, from the little I know you. Pretty sure already said that, but I really admire you. :)
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar you'll make me blush!
@ColeValleyGirl well, you deserve it. ;)
@ColeValleyGirl A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS
Needless to say, while you're here you have as much morale support as you want/need, so please don't hesitate to use it. @Cole :)
!!/support ColeValleyGirl
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar No such command 'support'.
15:56
:(
Well, Smokey isn't as much help sometimes.
Not much room for compassion after the 30000th spam
@M.A.R. two hearts in one person?
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar I doubt it
Wait, maybe
"Two Hearts One Man" - that's a movie worth watching.
> In a heart transplant procedure, a surgeon removes the diseased heart and sews the donor heart in place. He or she then attaches the major blood vessels to the donor heart. Most people who receive a heart transplant enjoy a good quality of life.
15:58
@M.A.R. if you'll be the movie main actor you can make nice amount of money.
Who needs money when you always raise the average number of kidneys in a room when you enter?
@M.A.R. well this doesn't mean the previous heart can't stay, in theory, just moved aside.
Should be plenty of space there, no?
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar with the kidneys, the old ones stay because the new one is transplanted elsewhere
With the heart, there's not much room up there.
16:00
Dang, here my brilliant theories go poof.
cries
Unless you, what, remove the stomach (it's an unrelated surgical procedure to remove the stomach)
Stomach isn't one organ
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar calm down Dr. Frankenstein, you're not invited to the transplant club.
🚽
16:01
Go get an appendix transplant or something
@KevinB :)
@M.A.R. isn't it something many people remove when it breaks down?
(as it's a useless organ)
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar dream big
Don't let the naysayers stop you
@M.A.R. my dreams aren't big
Just contain big things.
runs away
This. This is why you're not allowed in the club
I'm not here so I can't hear you.
16:04
!!/ping @Sha
I broke Smokey maybe.
See? Even Smokey knows it's pointless to ping me.
This is all your fault.
Thanks to you, now many transplant patients will see spam.
So much for support!
FOX is better than Smokey at pinging. :D
There was once a bug that let me ping in different rooms as well, sadly it was fixed. ;)
And we scared poor @Cole away with our chatter, how can we bring her back? thinking
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar I haven't suddenly become Dr. Who
16:10
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Takes a lot to scare me.
General ColeValleyGirl!
@ColeValleyGirl I have a lot, @M.A.R knows too well. :D
You are a bold one
@ColeValleyGirl not you, @M.A.R already has extra kidney, so why not extra heart? ;)
I'm going to watch Dr. Strange in couple of hours, by the way. :P
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar scare? More like disgust
16:13
@M.A.R. that leads to running away, same end result. ;)
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar They do do it in exceptional cases (and they sometimes add an external pump to the existing heart while you're waiting for a transplant) -- but I'm a 'one out one in' patient.
@ColeValleyGirl yeah, the classic which is good. :)
So you didn't have pump and/or artificial heart while waiting?
Not running away in fright or disgust -- but I have somebody else's VBA macro to debug (the worst kind of debugging) and some libraries to build for lua. People have realised I'm available again to pull their rocks out of the fire...
@ColeValleyGirl are you on anticoagulant therapy as well or just immunosuppressive?
If you don't mind me asking
@ColeValleyGirl sounds like back to routine which is awesome! :P
@M.A.R. show off, you and your big words.
:D
16:16
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar I wanna make you jealous and it works. Every. Time
trying to think what I can use
@M.A.R. so unfair
cries again
Immunosuppressants -- heavy doses of Tacrolimus, Ceptava and Prednisolone for life -- but no anticoagulant except aspirin, which makes a nice change. I spent nearly 20 years on various anticoagulants and am looking forward to not bruising if somebody looks at me the wrong way. Plus a cocktail of other stuff, some of which I hope I can stop taking as my system settles down. I'm sure you're used to the drug-juggle!
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar No -- I hardly waited. I was referred for assessment in March 202 -- but Covid puta spanner in the works and I didn't get added to the waiting list until January this year, with a warning that I would probably not get called for years if at all. After my op, my consultant complained thar I'd made a fool of him, getting a new heart afte ronly 4 months.
jealous at the common things @M.A.R and @Cole share :P
@ColeValleyGirl huh, that's awesome!
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar hey I told you this is VTP only, Very Transplanted Person. It's on you if you keep standing by the door
@M.A.R. so if I'll transplant something, I'll join the club?
There is something I can think of, that can be useful......
:D
16:26
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar sure. Try an extra arm, might come in handy
@M.A.R. LMAO
Going to eat early supper, won't be eating right before the movie, so will probably make myself a malawach, already have tomato sauce left from lunch.
Cya and happy Happy Hour in several hours! :D
@ColeValleyGirl I bet it beats the pre-transplant nonsense. Tacrolimus is the worst drug in the bunch, although not so much if you're not bulky like me (it's all muscle I swear) and serum levels can be titrated easily.
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar cya
@M.A.R. CIA
need to fight my WAG addiction one day
@M.A.R. Oh absolutely it bets the pr-transplant nonsense. I'm hoping to lose weight, now I can walk more than 30m in a day. (Averaging 2km so far and heading upwards).
