Thinking about it, HA-Proxy could have an authentication cookie (separate from the user-login cookies and not tied to a particular account) which would allow bypassing the check. If the cookie is set by the backend, it would make it easy to tell apart logged in users from logged out users.
Is the frontend of SE open source? I know that most of SE is closed.
Does Stack Apps just use the public API through the browser client-side? If so I could find out manually (I don't like installing scripts).

@forestdistrustsStackExchange if(deleteButtons[i].getAttribute("data-has-active-vote") == "true") is what the script does. Inspecting the attributes of the element with "delete" is not very fun but manageable...
