@Luuklag it generally does, you can see this from the MS report, there's a red flag next to the post title
but there have been situations where it failed for individual posts, probably because of a server-side API problem on the Stack Exchange side, or perhaps because of throttling
@Luuklag yup, we should generally blacklist these on first sight but looks like it didn't happen in this case, it was only watched

@rene nope. Spam. R.I.P
Well any spam is also NAA, but hope my point is clear. ;)

@tripleee put it at -4

thanks, these are really sticky

@tripleee yeah especially because the space one isn't that obvious spam at first glance
I commented under it

11:57 AM
OP won't clarify, that's obvious. They're just being annoying by rolling back edits.

No need to delete that, the answer is perfectly clear and valuable
just disengange, and flag for a moderator to solve the edit-war

@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron Well - uh, I actually felt the question was alright . The really amusing thing is I very carefully tried to consistantly use the plural form (and fixed another issue)
Well I kinda kicked up the edit war ._.

@JourneymanGeek content dispute

@Luuklag Ah, but who do I annoy? I annoy people by conflict of interesting, or do I annoy people by inaction? :D

I'll deal

You could delete some spammers

@Luuklag Its boring

@Luuklag I've nuked a lot of spammers over the past week ._.

12:17 PM
finally both gone

You could have done some of these "jobs" that pay you to copy paste stuff etc.

@Luuklag ooh, get paid to spam, turn around and take out the spam....
brilliant

Wow, you really are bored xD

So far this week
- watched most of jack reacher the series
nuked lots of spammers

watched s1 of the clone wars cartoon

Several off topic questions on MSE, in case you're hungry. @Journeyman ;-)
oh wow you had a fertile week! :D

gone and gone

@Luuklag also keyboard shortcuts FTW

OK... I know we're a bit more flexible about downvotes but WHY are we downvoting someone who's just trying to understand the rules? Is there some additional backstory here that I'm missing? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/376284/…

\o/
Meta?

@Catija not my downvote, but people might find the question to trivial. Or a "stupid question".

That's... not a reason to downvote.

well according to the rules it isn't...

Not my downvote either, though I did feel like OP didn't understand the intent of the "english" only rule on most of the network

2:38 PM
If someone has the same question in the future "hey, I found a profile with non-English text, is that allowed"... now they have an answer.

@Catija in its current form and wording, it's a feature request (to disallow users from having non-English data in their profile), see "Why I think this shouldn't be allowed". So I downvoted because I don't want such feature, as I explain in my answer.
If the question will be edited to be only a support question, I'll undo my downvote.

So edit it - either change the tag or remove the content that is them making a decision.
Treating it like a FR when it's not tagged that way is just kinda wrong.
Anyway, I just edited it.

@Catija heh, I'm tempted to 'reorganise' the question but ... ugh, not sure how OP would take it

Doesn't really matter.
:P

@Catija no, OP meant it to be this way, so not my place to change it...
@Catija very common to mis-tag, even for long time users.

2:41 PM
@Catija If you feel it's someone trying to get help, it should probably have the support tag, so I added that too instead of the discussion one.

@Tinkeringbell agree "Is [put something here] allowed in Stack Exchange?" is a support question.
"Why [something here] is allowed?" is already just a discussion. I think.

Rob
It's more than 'just a question', it's both the question and the suggestion that one rule applied to one set of things extends universally to all things; thus the better answer is no. --- Rather than "asking" (what should it be), which seems fair to ask, they are "feature requesting" ( / discussing) or dictating that the answer ought to be "no" - people who disagree presumably also downvote.

@Catija since it dosen't matter, edited :D

@Catija Also, comments discussing a post's score just being noise (and as such no longer needed) goes for everyone, I don't think there should be exceptions to that.

swish
(sound of my downvote being reverted)

2:48 PM
@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron C'mon... that's just... ugh. We're here to help and guide people and the best way to do that is to improve the content we get that might need a bit of a nudge rather than making the sole source of information a massively downvoted question with upvoted answers. It's 100% more useful to have a good question about every subject that also has good answers. Let's fix the questions we have rather than judging them for not getting it "right" the first time.

@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron Well yes and no

Rob
Thanks for clearing that up, we thought you were doing the Floss.

If you can 'fix' a post, and respect OP's intent, you should at least try
especially as a more experienced user, it seems a waste not to 'fix' an otherwise good question and hopefully use it as a teaching opportunity

I totally understand not being able to do that with 3-5k questions per day on SO but here, we get few enough, it's much better to fix the questions that we can. :)

@Catija sure, but it's not a new user. So any radical change of the question might be frowned upon by them, and rightly so. That said, guess I could post comment asking about it, but meh, what's done is done.

2:52 PM
@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron Well at worst they can roll back

The system is designed for this. I think most users would rather have a positively-scored question and then maybe next time they come and ask, they'll do better. They've now learned "Don't put my answer in my question". :)
(Yes, there are people who get very touchy about it being their question and we can't edit it... and when they do, we let them have their way... and all the downvotes... but that doesn't mean we shouldn't at least try. :D )

Rob
They frequently do that on Photo.SE. A dozen people descend of the question, help with every aspect including writing it, for two to four hours sometimes. Then they come back and delete their own 40-70 comments, leaving the question (or answer) in pristine condition. --- Royal treatment there, different treatment here .

@Rob and that's how the system should work

@Catija Reminds me of this morning: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/376209/…

@Luuklag >_>
tbh that was why I was a bit hesitant, but... yolo

2:56 PM
@Rob The question as I saw it (and answered it) didn't even need editing beyond perhaps turning the discussion tag into a support one. But I don't even pay attention to those anyways so...

@JourneymanGeek When it can, yes. As I pointed out... many sites have so much traffic it's just not possible for the community to do it but I love seeing it on sites when they do. Cooking often does the same thing.

@Catija well its also as much the willingness to help/accept help

It's a meh post otherwise, so unless the buttons get changed to 'upvotes are for pity too', I'll just keep not voting on any ;)

@Tinkeringbell ... yeah, they added their solution later rather than in the initial revision.

@Catija @Tinkeringbell I'd argue its not a solution
Its the reason they're confused - applying "post" standards to profiles

3:00 PM
Saying "I don't think it should be allowed" when it's a discussion question, kinda is an answer - that said, lots of discussions do include that sort of thing and often they get upvotes because the answer is one people agree with. But... I just get really uncomfortable with people coming here and asking for help understanding how our complex system works... and then getting downvoted, despite showing research and trying to ask a good question.
I know lots of junk ends up here but it's OK to have simple questions about the platform.
? I'm really not sure what you're saying there.

Nvm then. Jokes aren't funny if you have to explain them.

3:18 PM
@Tinkeringbell depends, but usually it's correct
In big audience, one is ought to miss the joke, for example.
So better not let it stop you, as others still get it and enjoy. :D

Meh. That sounds too much like inspirational bs ;)

wouldn't it make sense to make it obvious/clear that's for SO for teams only? I guess it wouldn't, from the pov of trapping non-teams users into reading about teams features
