Hi folks. It seems that ios app has been updated somehow. So I can run app now and I would like to post an answer on my own question. Could we undelete the question it self? meta.stackexchange.com/q/363807/339911

So there's an ad block filter in a major widely-used list that breaks SE site functionality. A PR I filed to fix the problem was originally accepted, but some months later, it was removed, and the developer doesn't seem to understand that it's necessary. Would such a thing benefit from an official request from SE Inc.?
("ryanbr" on GitHub is "fanboy" on the forum)

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Is there benefit for SE to have that fixed? The reason needs to be more then: if we don't get this fixed on their end Sonic keeps bugging us about it. Without looking too deeply into the issue I don't think SE will be bothered by it so it is unlikely SE wants to spend time on this.

@rene Here's the original bug report here reporting the broken feature. If others start filing bug reports on the site metas about this, would that be more reason?
If I really thought of forcing the change through, I would have just filed a direct PR to re-add it. But I instead engaged in open dialogue with the filter list author, simply asking initially for further details as to why it was removed (also so I'd have a better-formed argument).

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog maybe. It is still not an SE issue. You've chosen to use an adblocker. The site works fine without one. SE doesn't have to spend time on local issues.

@rene If I recall, SE has a past history of reaching out to authors of widely-used-by-SE-users client-side programs. (Non-widely-used ones are a different matter.)

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog yeah, that looks ok. I'm not sure why they say: this doesn't get hit. Do they have stats on that? It might be worth asking. Maybe a change on the SE side made this less likely to happen?

I'm certain that they don't quite understand what exactly I'm talking about in my report, especially given their screenshot on the GitHub issue (which seems to be from the ask question page, which is unaffected). The same issue is still occurring exactly as it was before. (Did you try reproducing it?)

9:15 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog sure. But keep in mind that ads is a revenue stream for them. it is not in their interest to give users with an adblocker an awesome experience. The other case you're probably referring to is https everywhere. That was a different category as disabling that tool on the client had a bigger impact. It was in the interest of SE to get that fixed.

@rene The specific filter list in question only blocks tracking scripts, not ads. Lots of users here only block tracking scripts without blocking ads (i.e. they disable EasyList but enable EasyPrivacy). SE has shown that they're fine with a few lost tracking samples.
That argument would apply if the issue were with EasyList, which blocks ads. But the issue is with EasyPrivacy, which blocks tracking scripts (not ads).

@Rob That's a good pillow, I might use it! But what's BioH?

The ZX81 is a home computer that was produced by Sinclair Research and manufactured in Dundee, Scotland, by Timex Corporation. It was launched in the United Kingdom in March 1981 as the successor to Sinclair's ZX80 and designed to be a low-cost introduction to home computing for the general public. It was hugely successful; more than 1.5 million units were sold. In the United States it was initially sold as the ZX-81 under licence by Timex. Timex later produced its own versions of the ZX81: the Timex Sinclair 1000 and Timex Sinclair 1500. Unauthorized ZX81 clones were produced in several countries...

How to appeal a suspension on chat stack exchange?

you mean chat bat?

Chat bat?

@Wolgwang The contact us link, Probably would want to explain what happened, and link to the thing that caused you to be suspended.
HOWEVER, generally chat bans are short, and CM escalations can take time to process so....
Might just be worth waiting it out

Do mods ask for clarification while responding to a flag?

Entirely depends on the context and the mod handling it.

2:00 PM
THough, you don't seem chatbanned
so that's moot

I was just asking. :-D
Thanks :-)
When does a normal room not bump to the active rooms page?
This room for example.

The worst song with the word "dance" in it has 1.6B views: Dance Monkey - not worth a one-box, or another view.

SO, its 3 am and I'm up cause I slept almost the entire yesterday cause I had a week of night shifts and I'm exhausted...
"Dad"s like - Its 3 am, why are you at your computer" ._.
My sleep debt's paid off, my sleep cycles are messed up and I really didn't feel like staring at the ceiling till 6 am

Ask dad "it's 3am, why are you noticing I'm at my computer" :P

I was gonna
I didn't feel like an arguement at 3 am

Heh... my parents often suck, but a question like that would prove to my dad that I'm awake enough to be at my computer and not need more sleep :P

Right now mom's also passive aggressively i mean very aggressively suggesting I change jobs :D
(I need to clean up my resume a bit and keep an eye out ._.)

I need to move first. Then, I can go and look to see if there's even a remote chance of switching from my current employer to maybe just working for the client directly, or getting something else that doesn't require being a consultant.

No matter what I do's likely never good enough ._.

:( ... time to move out, as fast as possible. Fingers crossed the building of your apartment goes well.

@Tinkeringbell well once its done

Yeah. I know the feeling XD

@Spevacus I feel like pointing people at working alternatives might be less annoying
(where they exist)

10:23 PM
Hmm... In retrospect, it might've been better served had we left it closed with just a comment or something explaining that the app had somehow updated, fixing the issue. Pointing to that dupe is almost always the best way to go when it comes to the app (sadly :-( )

Well, we're not going to get any real support on the app - and that's for certain
I'm not sure what's the best alternative, nor what's the stuff we can expect SE to keep the lights on
It would be 'nice' for example to have a SE supported source for push notifications on the longer run if they're willing to support it, and a public endpoint people can use for tat
github.com/tylerbwong/stack/issues/120 seems to indicate it needs something server side?
