Can someone please modify step 2 of the instructions in the formatting sandbox, so that it works correctly with Highlight.js? (@Glorfindel)
@Tinkeringbell You don't have to depend on other companies to file your tax returns, right?
If you don't, you have it better than us Americans.
02:03
@Rob I think you duplicated links 1 and 2. Did you mean to put a different question for one of them?

@Feeds λ
@JohnDvorak I would +1 that, but I regret but I have but one star to give
06:47
@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog Not a company no, just the government.
They're messing up massively too though.
Here you only get free filing from the government if you're considered being in poverty, otherwise you either have to know all the subtle nuances of the tax code yourself or pay an accountant or software program to fill everything in for you
I mean, that's pretty much similar to here. You can get free help (independent of your income though the people that use it often don't have money to spare), but otherwise you have to know how to do it yourself or pay an accountant to fill everything in for you.
meanwhile in singapore...
"We already got the information from your employer and you owe $X. If you have another source of income please declare it, or any tax returns"
Technically if I set up direct debit, they could take the money too :D
@JourneymanGeek Well, that is how things work here (and presumably in the Netherlands too): we have direct withholding
We don't have witholding taxen
06:55
@JourneymanGeek Never trust that one XD So far, each year I had a pre-filled tax thing I also had to fill in some other stuff and got money back :D
Tax returns are mostly intended to re-confirm that as well as see if you qualify for any deductions or credits (e.g. donations to charity)
@JourneymanGeek You can only +1 it because if you could +2 it it would become Half Life 3, and Valve notoriously cannot count above 2

@Tinkeringbell you have a louzy employer ;) I never have to pay extra or get any returns
08:09
@Luuklag I always get returns, either donations or like last year, with my apartment being bought and all... :D
So yeah, I always have to alter/change my pre-filled in form.
@Tinkeringbell Yeah hypotheekrenteaftrek is one you have to fill in yourself
@Luuklag that's not a real word ._.
@Luuklag Last year it wasn't so much hypotheekrente but the costs of 'notaris' and stuff.

Any news on this that I missed: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/404822/… ? I just re-opened it because the dupe obviously doesn't apply.
08:32
@rene Haven't heard anything about it. Should ask Adam I think, seeing he posted last years anouncement
@rene why is that at -5?
Don't know who is in the lead on that now, I think it used to be Anita Taylor, but she changed roles end 2020
@JourneymanGeek it was asked at the time the dupe was still applicable so I guess lack of research could count.
09:24
Mmmm streaming a 4k video in a powerpoint over teams isn't really cutting it...
Anyone knows how that could be improved? I could ofcourse make it 480p to reduce filesize
Have you embedded the video in the PowerPoint?
@rene yup
Can't you run the video from the filesystem with a decent player like VLC?
Powerpoint is now 1GB
@rene In theory yes, but that's a hassle with changing presenter screens
hmm, fair
09:47
@Tinkeringbell here only freelancers need to deal with taxes, otherwise it's all on the employer side.
Rob
Rob
@Luuklag If you could embed a private YouTube or Vimeo URL they could serve the video, at up to 8K.
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating That's a neat idea :)
I do like the idea of hypotheekrenteaftrek, though I still haven't been able to calculate how much I actually 'earned' that way :D
@Rob yeah, but that would require the audience to watch the video themselves. I'm sharing my screen as a presenter in a teams meeting.

@Luuklag YouTube has embedded videos and clips (one video, cut up): support.google.com/youtube/answer/171780?hl=en support.google.com/youtube/answer/… --- For Microsoft Teams see: livetilesglobal.com/how-to-share-your-screen-in-microsoft-teams youtube.com/watch?v=bpI9RZUGm-U - looks very clear (resolution) to me using LiveTiles.
10:56
@Luuklag There is an option in PowerPoint to compress video without losing quality. Once brought a presentation of mine from 200 MB to 60 MB.
11:36
@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog I'll have a look at that when the kids are asleep
12:24
@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog Ouch, unavailable on MAC
@JourneymanGeek should we facilitate this discussion continuing? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/361486/…
pinging you seeing you asnwered it
@Luuklag tbh, considering there's an official CM answer there... ehhh
Deleting it changes not very much IMO
However I do think it might be a good idea to just starve OP of attention by not responding any further :)
@JourneymanGeek yeah might be best. Just close the thing and move on.
@Luuklag and I wouldn't be averse to the community closing it - which seems the direction its going in
Let your sock chip in ;)
not enough rep, and if I'm going to throw a close vote, might as well do it myself
12:39
@JourneymanGeek You wanted community closure ;)
@Luuklag actual community. Not ... robots.
:D
@JourneymanGeek Only if people here start adding close votes I think, since it's already out of the queue ;)
and only needs two :D
@Tinkeringbell It's on the front page, so it'll attract some more
12:57
fingers crossed :)

I'm not actually sure if SO rep counts for main chat server chat-room access
Yes

A: Demystifying chat reputation requirements

Misread it at first, sorry. SE chat is what you meant by 'main chat server', right?

only 9 flags to go for my marshal badge on MSE :)
should be able to get that this weekend then. :P
Nope, not really active on the weekends
Rob
Rob
14:08
@Luuklag I've only got 498 to go on MSO, but just 20 for SO; too many declined flags here on MSE, so it can fester while that gets sorted.
14:24
funny thing is, I think if I quit as a mod, I'd get a marshall badge :D
14:46
same
I mean it would have been nice if it happened when I actually quit as a mod ....
Well you could do that again :P No one is seriously stopping you. And any questions are easily answered: "He'll be back in a few hours, he's just getting a Marshall badge" XD

Got a question
Just encountered a suggested edit from an anonymous user
And it shows this:
Does that mean suggested edits from every anonymous user are counted?
17:21
i mean, i'm sure this one anonymous user is just being singled out
Rob
Rob
17:51
@Ollie I noticed that a while ago, was going to ask eventually; it doesn't look like it's an accurate count, as you'd think that there would be more:
That's a little more than a month ago.

3 hours later…
20:53
@Rob Not that I'd think there'd be more, but that every anonymous user's edits gets counted. I'll go post a Meta question.
Wait... think it's a mod-only IP log...

Q: How is the anonymous edit count from a certain location determined?

QOTD:
I'm not a native English speaker. I had to read the announcement 4 times before understanding that Rosie is not the rabbit featured in the picture (which I confused for a Guinea Pig). I was honestly convinced SE had chosen to nominate the rabbit in the picture as valued associate #843 and give it a personality. — bad_coder Feb 23 at 3:17
I feel bad for laughing, but that's hilarious. Lol
Rob
Rob
You see, if you're not a native English language speaker then it's difficult to differentiate between rabbits and guinea pigs; and rabbits can seek employment, so it's an important point.
