Nice title on your latest Q, Rob. Lol
Rob
Rob
That took a few minutes, and tries; to make sure it accurately reflected the question. It's only if you are unfamiliar with the word that it sounds like take-out is closed.
At least, that's what I was trying for; unfamiliar with the feature and language.

@Luuklag Nope. Mostly because I didn't have the time and JNat said it wouldn't be all that necessary: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8768494#8768494
07:29
@rene yeah interesting post
@Tinkeringbell perhaps I will write something then.
@Luuklag Sure, go ahead :)

@Luuklag fwiw, we already have some time set apart to discuss this internally this week
@JNat good to know, but seeing the answers given by serveral team members I kinda feel the need to steer your discussion a little ;)
go for it
@JourneymanGeek gone
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating hmmm, cleared sessions. Let's see if that's enough.
@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog gone and gone
@JNat If I have some time to spare I will.
@Luuklag gone
@JNat This starts to feel like a small backlog ;)
12:30
@Luuklag sneaky... but gone
damn what is this Cisco Webex annoying
keeps frigging beeping every time someone joins or leaves
or mutes or unmutes
wow Webex, hasn't heard that one for a while...
@MetaAndrewT. I think its the only thing our gov't people, and its sub contractors are allowed to use
Damn lovely how these people have 0 clues about what their doing in hosting a webinar
I guess being 50+ isn't particularly helpfull
@Luuklag most teachers in my kids school having trouble with the remote teaching. Took them long months to adjust.
And it's harder when the kids in class just wait for any small mistake....
Yeah my wife also teaches, this week they started going back to the physical school
but only half of the classes so they can distance
12:45
@MetaAndrewT. same, last I heard/used it was while working at Amdocs 10+ years ago.
World advanced since then. ;)
Here it's a privacy / security concern. So anything ancient can't leak I guess ;)
@Luuklag same here, they call it "capsules".
yeah here they call it "bubbles". Same goes for our daughters school
If one gets covid the entire class should be quarantined
Lower grades got back to physical teaching a while ago, higher grades only recently.
After 5 days they can be tested, and everyone who tested negative can come back
12:47
@Luuklag yes, that happened twice to us with the son, few months ago.
otherwise they have to quarantine for 10 days, and come back then if they don't fall ill
Here it's 14 days, no way to get out of it before, no matter what are the COVID results.
claim is there's always small chance the test is wrong, so better be safe.
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating yeah thats true, but I guess a risk their willing to take here
@Luuklag Google Meet is as secure as anything can be, these days.
(Zoom isn't though, that's true.)
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating but not AVG compliant
was on the news this morning here
12:50
@Luuklag really?? That's silly... probably not enough money paid by Google to AVG. ;)
and Zoom can be safe, if you set it up correctly ;)
@Luuklag no, it has issues on the backend from what I remember reading, their servers aren't secure.
Might be improved, but no way they can be safer than Google.

@JNat thanks, turns out it might have been innocent (?) mistake, but better keep an eye.

something is broken with spam and rude/abusive flags
sdc blame
legit
spam and R/A flags got red-flagged...
:D
Quick, someone make a userscript :P
Apparently Advanced Flagging still works. Don't know if that's true or not, though.
Heard it in CHQ
14:47
@Spevacus Well, I am eagerly waiting for the next SD report in order to test...but there is none :D
Also I'm not sure if we can retract flags cast through Advanced Flagging...
I kindly asked the spammers to pause momentarily. So far they appear to be obeying the cease-fire.
Great idea. Maybe we should try that more often
Feel free to try a random Sandbox post... I'm okay with clearing some flags later ;)
uh oh
14:59
@janw That's the advanced flagging?
Yes, tried it on a sandbox post
Might be useful to let people know that doesn't work in the comments at meta.stackexchange.com/q/361613/369802 ... because they're thinking it does ;)
@Tinkeringbell Good point, I've left a comment
This begs the question
15:02
Are there other flags that are permission-locked?
Not AFAIK, but it looks like something's changing
spam flagging will become a 30k privilege ;)
Ridiculous
SmokeDetector in shambles
Rob
Rob
@Tink, I thought you had to improve your old posts, didn't know that you could just write new ones; that end up positively recieved.
I flagged manually, an hour ago, and was 6th. It worked then.
@Rob That's the fastest way to get things turned around.
15:17
@Rob You can. But if a question was e.g. closed, deleted and ended up with a negative score, you need a lot more questions to get that curious badge. This OP had 20 questions total, 12 deleted, 1 closed + deleted. So now they need 8 more well-received questions to bring their 'question record score' back up to something that's >= 0.5
Pretty sure that question (about the Curious badge) been asked and answered a couple times before, but I can't find the one that has the detailed explanation of how the question record works.
Rob
Rob
@Luuklag Which: fix old (possibly unfixable), or write new (as experienced user)?
Where's Sonic when you need him D:
https://meta.stackexchange.com/a/290546/369802. Which for this case gives:
(20 total questions - 1 closed - 13 total deleted)/ 20 total questions = 0.3.
(28 total questions - 1 closed - 13 total deleted)/ 28 total questions = 0.5.
@Rob If you have old posts that are salvagable, fixing them turns your score around fastest
Rob
Rob
15:20
Yes.
For example getting a closed and deleted post reopened and upvoted makes the above formula:
(20 total questions - 12 total deleted)/ 20 total questions = 0.4
Yep. While just adding an extra well received question gives you
(21 total questions - 1 closed - 13 deleted)/ 21 total questions = 0.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

@rene There. And now I have real work to do :P
Thanks for bringing this to my attention- just pushed out a fix. I had added flagging to election nominations and accidentally included a bad check. Should be better now! — Jane Willborn ♦ 3 mins ago
@Tinkeringbell thats a first ;)
@Tinkeringbell :D
Yeah I remember rather recently that someone had posted a garbage election nomination (By "garbage" I just mean it was purely garbled text, like "asdasdasdnk") and it required a mod pinging a CM in order to get it removed.
Rob

16:08
@rene, there's now a 610MB panorama of Mars available: mars.nasa.gov/resources/25640/… - wallpaper size.
16:34
Is there a post on Meta SE regarding a feature-request on the addition of a "description" of what the site is about (in the sidebar)?
@Rob wow! That is pretty amazing.
@Justin some sites already have that: codegolf.stackexchange.com
Rob
Rob
Good ability to zoom in, done by stitching multiple 20MP images; from moving the camera on the arm. There's an image somewhere showing all the bits and pieces needed to create the panorama. Unfortunately there are a few lines where it didn't stitch very good.
@Rob yeah, I had a few on the rover where that was clearly a mis-stitch, if that is a word
@Rob I think I saw that image with the mosaic in a NASA tv stream, for sure.
Rob
Rob
I guess it's a word, for alignment error.
In the video stream they explained they used custom software, not the stitch feature of photoshop. I would expect they have more meta data coming with each picture that should make stitching easier, at least for software.
16:49
@Spevacus Having actual flags will definitely be an improvement :)
Rob
Rob
^^^ Yes, if they Photoshopped it then the conspiracy theorists would chime in.
17:05
LOL
@rene expected a "4" to end it...
18:08
Just wanted to say hello. I can't believe it's March again, and in many ways it may feel like we've been living in March 2020 for the past 12 months. I just wanted to say hi and that I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there.

@Rosie well,some say september never ended....
(and heh, I think the 'fun' started in april for me. Was in india, and my flight got cancelled, and got on the last flight home :D )
@Rosie \o
@JourneymanGeek *September '19 never ended
Its the only september that mattered :D
@Rosie And a weird March it was, it had temperatures over 30 degrees and under -10... And my birthday was in March, and Sinterklaas, and Christmas, and New Year's.... Winter Bash too...
and heh, it it might have been the last winterbash
or was that the year before
18:19
pretty sure it was WB '19 that animuson hinted that they were considering changing it to something else, but evidently that never materialized
Hey, the Hat Dash was a fun new thing!
true!
yup
@Mithical get off my lawn :D
Eternal September or the September that never ended is Usenet slang for a period beginning in September 1993, the month that Internet service provider America Online (AOL) began offering Usenet access to its many users, overwhelming the existing culture for online forums. Before then, Usenet was largely restricted to colleges, universities, and other research institutions. Every September, many incoming students would acquire access to Usenet for the first time, taking time to become accustomed to Usenet's standards of conduct and "netiquette". After a month or so, these new users would either...
'93 apparently
though I'm pretty sure I got on the internet much after that :D
I'm aware of that
but no I will not get off your lawn
well its not my lawn....
I'm not even sure why there's a lawn
18:25
it's a tavern, we need a place to throw people out onto
I thought that was the windows
Although please do avoid throwing up on the lawn, everyone.
which we don't actually replace
also watch where you step
we have had windows?
I was only aware of the Chimney
worried about secret passage
18:29
we need something to throw people out of into the lawn
18:46
It's called a front door.

Ben Popper on March 02, 2021
While many introductory statistics classes teach the CLT, very few actually attempt to prove it because that requires some complex math. In this session, we’ll bypass all that math by using Python loops to simulate the CLT.
Not going to sleep early today Tink?
Spent some time gaming, I was just wrapping up when I saw an answer that needed commenting on ;)
meta.stackexchange.com/a/361625/369802 < really, really bad misconception there.
20:35
And I think the point's missed that we don't have direct control over hiring
Yeah, I wasn't sure how to word that though... I mean it's written with enough double-speak that once you point that out, this user in particular will likely tell you 'That not what I meant' anyways. (Like Mith's post, it can also be interpreted as 'please give us managers that have these qualities' instead of 'I want to be part of the hiring process')
But there's quite a few folks (myself included ) who feel that keeping community from applying from the community manager job is not optimal
It's still better to be honest...
Otherwise a bunch of people may waste their time applying to a job they're not really going to get :P
Look how pretty my new game is :D
oh, mostly just me :D
Hahaha I know ;)
20:38
@Tinkeringbell are you gardening?
@rene Hahaha nope ;) Guess again :P
And I'm really also looking at the future
3D Red/Blue Rescue Team?
@Spevacus Yeah, sort of :) It's the new one, for the Switch :)
Didn't know they came out with something like that. Interesting.
20:39
It is very pretty! I still find the movement control a bit 'meh', but it has an auto mode so ... :P
I recommend it, 4 stars :D
(if you like that kind of games)
haha pickachu
There's a bunch more screenshots at twitter.com/PelipperHQ ... including the rest of mine ;)
One of my 2year olds can say picka picka chuuu
don't know where he picked that up
20:42
@Luuklag Why are you laughing at my Pikachu! I've played all my mystery dungeon games as a Pikachu + Bulbasaur :D
@Luuklag TV or TikTok :P
@Tinkeringbell I don't know honestly, I've never seen them watch pokemon on tv. Usually they watch NPO3 or nick jr.
and definetly not tiktok
@Luuklag Hmmm. Weird. Maybe he's secretly watching when you're not looking ;) My youngest brother used to get up in the middle of the night, my dad repeatedly caught him in front of the TV when getting up for work at 6... we finally figured out he's usually there from 3AM onwards: He was watching 'Berenboot'.
haha nice!
Nope, they can't get out of their beds, their 2...
And even if they could, no way they can open the gate at the top of the stairs
True, 2 is a bit young for that ;)
21:07
I really wish I could dig up a screenshot of the older CM ads
Have you tried a wayback machine?
need to know about when
and that the page is archived
anyway I'm not even sure that answer will be posted, and it might be one of those "are you sure you're himan" ones
@JourneymanGeek Yeah I can't help with that :(
@Tinkeringbell dumpster fire in the making
Might be time to put the lid on it.
@Luuklag I've dropped it the best advice I had: Formulate your concerns concretely instead of just hinting at them. I'll leave it up to Geek to decide if the post needs locking or deleting, it's past my bedtime already :P
21:21
ugh
I don't really want the post to be locked
but I kinda want yanno
booped most of the comments
yeah the comment I linked didn't onebox
Aww, including mine! :( (it's okay, really)
So I figured you did
21:48
@JourneymanGeek can you del tinks first comment there as well, the answerer edited, so now it no longer makes sense
@Luuklag I've edited the comment to fix that :)
cc @Tink in case she want...
Yeah that
@Tinkeringbell Go to sleep you ;)
Could've posted a second one to repeat the bit about formulating a concrete concern, but thought it also could be added to the first comment just as well :)
MSE's been pretty darn tame lately, especially in comparison to what's been going on over on MSO
21:49
@Luuklag BUT I DON'T WANNA!
@Tinkeringbell yup there you have a real 2yo
@Spevacus should visit there more often I guess xD
enough work for today
@Spevacus I know the whole 'my spam post was deleted as spam so I will never post on SO again' one already, did I miss more? :P
well I'm off for some drinks before I go off to bed
Enjoy! :)
@Tinkeringbell yeah, there's been a delete/close/reopen/undelete war going on for days
21:53
@user400654 days huh? And what happened to the automatic moderator flag raised in such cases? XD
Ohhh lots of meta stuff. I can explain a bit when I'm home
Make sure to drop lots of links too, so I have something to read tomorrow during the boring meeting :)
i may have contributed
oh, It might be indirectly my fault ._.
Just give me the links and I'll judge who is at fault and who not :P
21:57
at least, i was one of the votes that re-enabled the ability to delete most recently, which resulted in another run of delete/undelete, and then finally a 7 day lock, :p
delete votes should really be limited to once per person per post, like close votes
kinda silly for it to be the same people over and over
Yeah I thought that was how it worked, with mods being the exception. Imagine my surprise when I saw one user was a part of every single undelete action on it.
It would make sense if it was like that, to me anyway.
22:46
@Tinkeringbell Alright, in case you didn't manage to find the g00d st00f yourself already, here's the post that started things off: meta.stackoverflow.com/q/405582/11171084
I recommend reading the first revision to get the general idea of what most peoples' initial reaction to it is/would normally be.
Following, this was a question that followed it not long after its first deletion and undeletion: meta.stackoverflow.com/q/405585/11171084
Bits and pieces elsewhere, but that's like 90% of it.
I don't feel too bad bringing it up here because it's died down now, I'm pretty sure.
