Like I said, I've no idea. It's only ever been an annoyance to me. Robert might have known if it was truly a feature but I cannot phathom what the reason would have been myself and I kind of doubt anyone else here has the slightest clue. — animuson ♦ 18 mins ago
This is what we call "lost institutional knowledge".

Heh, I would qualify for a bronze tag badge today, but the tag itself doesn't ...

@Mithical morning! I'm re-watching the TV show תמרות עשן these days, do you know it? Watched it? It was filmed in the Golan and has.. "golan-ish" theme to it (hard to explain), so thought about you while watching it. ;)
@Rob thanks! Done.

✔️
(it was broadcast in 2009 or so, and one advantage of my bad memory is that I can re-watch stuff years later and enjoy it as if I'm watching for the first time, I don't remember many details.....)
10:00
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating I have not
Should I?
10:27
@Mithical if you ask me, then yes. It's a real masterpiece IMO. The first Israeli drama TV show that I actually liked, and since then only few are as good.
It's a perfect balance between drama, action, and funny moments to make it look both more realistic and less "heavy".
Saw reviews comparing it to "Lost" but that's far fetched, the fantasy layer in the show in much smaller.

@YaakovEllis your fix made it better, but some padding on the right side of the table in the blog might finish it off. Currently looks like this for me: i.sstatic.net/TtBM3.jpg
@Luuklag what browser? I am testing on Chrome
that is what I used for my screenshot
Chrome on android
Ill look up the version
88.0.4324.93
On Android 10
The second table looks perfect though
@Luuklag works for me so... uh
what's your screen resolution?
Don't know...
@Luuklag I am using the same. status-norepro
12:44
I guess 1493*720
What's your phone?
Chrome's font setting? System's font setting?
Huawei P20 pro
Works on 1080 x 2160
@MetaAndrewT. all default I guess
12:45
1080 x 2240 pixels, 18.7:9 ratio (~408 ppi density)
So same width... hmm
@Luuklag I am using the identical phone :-). Are you sure that you arent looking at the old version?
Forced it to 2240*1080, still same image
Lookinf at the live version. Just restarted my browser
And your fix did improve things, I can now read March in its entirety, whilst first I could only see Mar
Text scale is set to 100%
Maybe system darkmode messes with things..
Playing with desktop Chrome's dev tools and mobile view, the screen shown looks equivalent with having 365x679 px
Weird things going on here...
@YaakovEllis nope even in incognito this happens, even after restarting the browser
All text sizes are set to standard, Chrome and OS :/
while the required minimum width to show the table's full size is 417px (including right padding)
(395px for full table without right padding, 381px for partially cut table but still readable)
12:55
@MetaAndrewT. so for some reason my phone scales it with a factor 3....
@Luuklag that's due to Android's scaling for different pixel densities. Yours is 408 DPI, which is inside XXHDPI bucket (320-480 DPI) with 3x scaling.
But all of this is kind of irrelevant if Yaakov's also using the same phone...
orz
So I see it working fine down to a width of 355px. Below that, the table stays longer than the screen width but for some reason the overflow:scroll doesnt actually activate. Unfortunately, I cant justify spending more time fixing this. If anyone has a css fix to recommend, happy to post it. But otherwise... <shrugs>
@MetaAndrewT. some of the bits might have fallen out in transit.
hides the random excuse generator
Just blame the phone being Dutch ...
Yes, cause we can all hate people who are intolerant of other cultures. And the dutch.
13:06
@YaakovEllis sure, no hard feelings there
Switching resolution to 1493x720 also makes no difference...
font sizes?
@JourneymanGeek Chrome and OS set to default...
Ok, then I'm outta ideas
Random bit flips it is then
the only other thing I can think of is different chrome versions due to different play store versions
or huawei releasing different phones with the same model...
@JourneymanGeek would be possible, different specs for different markets...
But then afain I don't expect Israel and EU to be ver different based on consumer grouping
I THINK due to... politics, they're they same 'market' for stuff like this
13:16
@Luuklag I have the exact same phone, chrome version, and android version as you
the models seem broadly the same with china and global models
@Luuklag btw bought mine in the US when was still legal to do so
In Landscape mode there is no problem, which would be expected ofc.
@YaakovEllis huawei being legal or buying phones in the US ... ?
First probably
13:17
(cause lol, if not for covid, I wanted to get a new phone in india ._.)
@YaakovEllis strange chinese phones being strange
@JourneymanGeek why?
@JourneymanGeek huawei being legal to buy in the US. but I wouldnt buy today anyway, if I cant get access to Google apps
@Luuklag One wierd reason, one sensible one
And can't you just mail order one?
the phone I want to buy is cheaper in the indian market
+ indian phones have better VOLTE settings
13:19
Go to amazon.india ;)
(basically, they will just work in any provider that does VOLTE)
@Luuklag Its not 'urgent' other than the new phone 'curse' - the main problem with my current one is the charging port is kinda worn
(every time I buy a new phone, I swap jobs soon after)
@JourneymanGeek scary...
I wouldn't mind it now lol
@Luuklag been considering that
but a bit concerned over sales tax - I don't mind paying it, and its still cheaper, but it can get messy when not pre-paid
I know companies in NL now have their delivery company pay you sales tax when they export to the UK.
You can just use your debet card when your parcel arrives
Still thinking about it :D
I'm vaguely hoping things open up in a month or two (and one of the few perks of the current job is I get to be a beta tester high priority for covid vaccines)
and then I can just get it shipped to gran's

@YaakovEllis Just noticed this discussion in The Tavern, and posted comments on my Bug Report. --- If it's not going to be fixed that's OK, just reporting the bug; whether it's actually fixed is another matter entirely. No rush, or need.
@JourneymanGeek If you buy a phone from a different country (or within your own country, but imported) there's a fair chance that the radio is different, and the antennas tuned for the most popular band. You might find that it does work in your country, because it scans to find a connection, but you (probably) wouldn't want it connecting 3G instead of 4 (or 5).
@JourneymanGeek Hello! Can I ask you something? Is this true when you're a RO of a room?

There's also taking responsibility for a violation made by another user in the room.

@JourneymanGeek You might get those 8 rep back tomorrow.
@AnnZen that's part of the point of being an RO
@Rob oneplus seems to have china and international varients... Did my homework
@Rob maybe but I am pretty sure folks just disagreed. And one post had 2 downvotes
And tbh - spreads of votes in meta can be good. Means people care either way 😁

You definitely want the international one, even for more money, unless you are in China and not planning to travel. Even international phones don't work "everywhere" - See Amazon Q&A: amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx2USUOPYRTROOL Specially configured phones only work in 190 countries (and not perfectly): mobal.com/international-cell-phones
@Rob india is international + they have a ton of telcos so the base band settings are usually wide open
So much more stuff will just work
I was running a hacked phone with Indian settings with one phone company. 😁
Problem is actually buying the phone there

@JourneymanGeek One thing that won't work is CDMA, India is GSM (and different frequencies than the US): tripsavvy.com/using-overseas-cell-phone-in-india-3936628 blog.authenticjourneys.info/2012/11/… -- So you need to or quad band, and only have GSM service (paying for more than you get).
16:01
@Rob no one but the us does CDMA
China does have its own 4g system and some phones give up a few bands for that
16:17
@JourneymanGeek thanks for confirming :)
@rene thx
@JourneymanGeek cue reversal script
Hey @Journeyman, can you pull out the guns on this one: superuser.com/a/1622316/1156279
@Luuklag practically unimportant
Thanks ;)

@JourneymanGeek Three-peat, by your rep graph.
I've only ever gotten 2 times in a row, then a 140, then another 2...

The cellular radio isn't the only consideration, there's also the WiFi and GPS radios - and the difference between the frequency bands.
@Ollie been active + a few hot posts
@JourneymanGeek Always good ;)
@Journeyman If the tag is blacklisted, is it possible to re-create it?
@Ollie wierdly it isn't
Maybe something else
@JourneymanGeek How do you know?
Do you have access (read-only) to the blacklist?
Rob
Rob
16:41
The difference between GSM CDMA and LTE is important: usmobile.com/blog/lte-gsm-vs-cdma and of course there's no VOLTE over GSM gsma.com/futurenetworks/ip_services/volte
@Ollie blocklist. I think so?
@JourneymanGeek But how do you know it's not blacklisted?
Rob
Rob
What would the even be used for ...
@Ollie I checked the blocklist page
@JourneymanGeek Ah. Why then, would it show "The tag isn't allowed"...
16:49
@Ollie no idea 😁

@Rob Yep, I will.

Rob
@Ollie You might also ask, with the exception of swear words, if we could know what is on the list; so if we see a tag that ought to be added we can flag the question for upstairs.
17:09
Before I ask, @Journeyman, is there a sort of notification that you are about to post a question with a blacklisted tag?
Or edit etc. etc.
Are they just not shown?
Never mind, I'll try something.
Let's see if the Sandbox keeps the the tag...
@Journeyman You sure it isn't blacklisted? It won't let me submit the tag edits; that should be the sign for "blacklisted tag, quit mucking about".
