I actually didn't mind SQL Server - and the reasons I hated MySQL I've found were more due to the way it was (ab)used than any failing of the software so pg or mysql at large scale might be another one of those

I had to ask some questions about it in the early days of my programming, so started using a forum.

to be honest, as with a lot of things - it's almost always less about what you use, and more about how you use it

if you try to use PG like you'd use MySQL, it's going to be horrible, and vice versa

if you try to treat MySQL as MSSQL, it just won't work

and your surrounding ecosystem matters, too, what you choose to supplement and back it up with

I will say: MySQL & SQLite seem to have the most SQL Injection answers on SO by far (presumably because they're the DB used most for beginner programmers)

Also PHP had some terrible routines in the early days, and was often paired with mysql

I really really like SQLite though. For what it is, it is the best. But, you gotta accept its limitations.

@Shog9 We tried using H2 for a project recently (I pushed for SQLite but was overruled by a lead who wanted to stick with something made in Java) only to completely reverse that decision and move everything over once he tried to use it (tried being the operative word - apparently the latest version doesn't allow for command line database creation)

Oracle licensing can cost over 2M / year: dba-oracle.com/t_licensing_pricing.htm (old prices); I guess if people pay that it's because it saves them money.

@Rob yeah its a lot less expensive now (though I didn't look at what full package that was offering - the price is still high and adds up quick)

That's why AMD came out with their 7Fx2 (higher clock and fewer cores) Epyc CPU, saves $ on licensing fees (in some circumstances).
