The home page of SO finally admits it: there are no interesting questions left.
Uhm. Someone did a Friday deployment again 0o
Is that why recommended questions no longer work on SO?
I mean, why the front page suggestions ignore your tag preferences?

ah, I see... well, I think I can only say "all the best" :(
Yeah
Lets leave it at that. You can get caught up

Welp...
Guess it's bad enough :]
@PrincessOlivia I'm just really tired
I decided to take a break from being a mod here and well, I donno
do the same stuff without the responsibility to anyone?
Depending on how tired I am.
oh. I hope things get better for you

Q: Retiring as moderator

SnowMonica was removed as a moderator over the weekend by the SE staff. It wasn’t her decision. As a result of that decision and the wider issue that prompted it, I have taken the easy decision of immediately stepping down. Good luck to you and all who follow.

3
Or maybe the hyper-growth company that is closing huge deals can finally start paying people who work for it.

I don't know anything about the conflicts in private, but this I can agree with:
> the way it is run now makes me doubt that Stack Exchange is a good place to build this library, so I will be reevaluating my participation.

1:44 PM
I'm not sure but I think it may have some connections with the other issue we discussed yesterday.
SE even conduct moderator elections in a democratic way. And criticism is an essential part of democracy. I don't have enough insights so I can't say much more.

@OptimusPrime I don't find comparisons to a country's system of government apt or productive. If SE was a country, it would be a strange one.
You can elect your representatives... well except that most were already elected before you were born, and never need to be re-elected. Do you feel they represent you?
They can also be dismissed at will by the president, who is not elected at all - it's just someone who owns the country.
A strange country that would be, and "democracy" is not a word I would use to describe it.
Not to mention that many of the recent elections were conducted Soviet Union - style, with as many candidates as positions.
4:05 PM
@410 I didn't used the word democratic with exact meaning. It's sort of

@410 England in 12th century
5:34 PM
If I'm right, In an election, if the number of candidates <= positions, the election will be postponed. Then what happened here? communitybuilding.stackexchange.com/election/1
@OptimusPrime not applied on pro-tempore election on beta sites. The candidates will win by-default (without voting phase).
That's great. in my opinion, the same should be applicable on graduated sites too

Q: Experimenting with Pro Tempore elections

Jon EricsonLast spring, I ran an election on Parenting for a new moderator pro tempore. It went pretty well, so this fall we are going to extend the program to sites that have been in "beta" for years. Here's how it works: We're reaching out to moderator teams to see if they would be interested in partici...

>That's an 8.5% turnout, but you figure many eligible voters are no longer active on the site after 7 years.

from https://parenting.meta.stackexchange.com/a/1253/27163
Allowing such people to vote isn't really a good idea. If they didn't worked with the mod candidates in the site, they'll make random choices

Where can I get the SVGs of all the SE site logos?
stackoverflow.com/company/logos only are SO and SE in general
Well also SU and SF

A: Vector format logos of SE sites?

iBugRight-click on the logo and hit "Inspect", you'll see it's part of an SVG image on cdn.sstatic.com. I'll expand this answer when I get to my computer later.

@Stormblessed https://cdn.sstatic.net/Sites/[site_shortname]/img/logo.svg
e.g. Science Fiction & Fantasy = scifi
@MetaAndrewT. oh nice
I mean the tiny ones
Square ones?
As svg
let me check it first
This but SVG and pretty
Weird path: https://cdn.sstatic.net/Sites/stackoverflow/company/img/logos/su/su-icon.png
/scifi/scifi-icon.png didn’t work
7:10 PM
@Stormblessed based on that Company page only listing SO, SU, SF (the original trilogy), there's a possibility that other sites don't have, but I'm relieved if someone proves me wrong.

Q: Favicons in top-bar dropdown not SVG

WernerWould it be possible to update the StackExchange button drop-down to include scalable vector graphics (SVG) favicons for each site? I didn't notice any mention of this during the original design and beta testing phases.

Otherwise, it's not in SVG (around 150x150 PNG), but bigger: stackexchange.com/sites?view=grid
https://cdn.sstatic.net/Sites/[sitename]/img/apple-touch-icon.png
7:25 PM
@410 that... is an unnecessarily large loss in a short time
I'd like to cut off any discussion and speculation about this now. I really don't need people getting into that here in the Tavern.
Since it's going to be pointless without context and will inevitably be about people who are not around, it's best to just avoid it.
I wasn't going to speculate why, but look at the bigger picture. Especially the smaller sites who lose their mods might get into a problematic situation and end up being unable to fully keep up with moderation "demand" (as in what's needed, demand and supply, yeah, awful comparison). If there's no elections, that's not gonna make things better.
8:06 PM
Also @JourneymanGeek why’d you quit?
@Stormblessed I needed a break
any particular reasons other than that?
Well no
I feel that is good enough a reason as any
I'm tired
@JourneymanGeek Do you retain the right to be re-appointed upon request?
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog yes
8:16 PM
If there's one person who I believe should fill in the gap (if there is one), it's Glorfindel.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog there's such a thing as too soon.
2
Of course, it could be that SE employees have reshuffled priorities giving them more time to moderate the site, so they don't need an extra community moderator.
...
That's up to SE staff and the MSE mod team. There's no real need for anyone else to chip in at the moment.
@Mithrandir There's a difference between saying, "I believe SE should..." and "SE, please do..."
...so?
8:20 PM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog and I'm asking well...
That you don't take up this subject just right now
Just wait. It's been less than a day. Seriously. There's no need to be even discussing replacements yet.
Alright, I'll wait until there's a meta post (I won't make one since I don't know details)
There's a lot of complicated and nuanced stuff happening, mostly in private at the moment. Public speculation and discussion is really not going to be helpful at the moment; please respect that.
14
Well public speculation is inevitable when they really don’t like to talk about big things
In this case, yes, it is very soon
But a lot of the time they never say what happened, it feels like
People deserve some privacy. Not everything has to be public.
8:25 PM
@Stormblessed looking at everything you see in front of you. Well... Its messy
And sorting it out needs time and tact
@Mithrandir We should know why someone was removed, causing multiple retirements
No. You shouldn't, if that's not public.
You don't have a "right" to know the details of something between a certain person and a company.
@Stormblessed I'd say the same thing I told Sonic. Its too soon and I ask you wait
Just because someone is in a semi-public role does not mean they lose all rights to privacy.
Folks, believe me: anyone with a diamond has heard more than enough about this issue recently. Kicking an unhelpful discussion off here that we've all already had multiple times will make you very unpopular. Details will be released by the appropriate people at the appropriate time; until then, wait.

8:29 PM
I’m curious, where do all the mods hear all this stuff? Like how is it communicated?
Mods always seem to know everything
in the not-so-secret network-wide mod room
Well like 90% of everything
@Stormblessed eh. Not really
Maybe 20%
@ArtOfCode so like other mods communicated what happened through the teacher lounge?
Doesn't matter.
8:32 PM
the TL is where most mod things happen, yes
the specific details of how this particular situation played out are irrelevant
@Mithrandir well why can’t I ask?
I’m just curious about what mods do

Your friendly neighborhood moderators are all currently smarting for one reason or another, though they're all related to the same thing. Grizzly bears who have just had birds crap on their heads do not appreciate also being poked with sticks.
Yes, we're not being forthcoming. That's partially because there's not much we're allowed to share because of where it played out, and partially out of respect for the people more directly involved who are unable to speak for themselves for one reason or another. If it matters to anyone that much, ask on MSE and you might get a response at some point when things play out. If it doesn't (and it shouldn't, really), then just get on with business as usual.
@Mithrandir well currently I’m not trying to discuss, I’m just asking irrelevant and unimportant questions
8:39 PM
asking irrelevant and unimportant questions poking with sticks
not sharp sticks, no, but poking this thing that we've all been through the works on already ain't your best idea
ok fine...
@ArtOfCode I’ve drafted something and am considering when the “not too soon” period will start
eh, for an MSE post - whenever you feel like it. You're not going to get a response for some while, though.
@Stormblessed I come back for a bit after being offline for 50 hours to find a hell of a lot of crappy stuff has happened, almost all of it not public, and a lot of directly relevant either to me or my site, and every bit of it relevant to people I care about and respect. So yeah, I don't especially appreciate pokes into stuff that is directly related to that, and may be a drop on edge.

Should we have something happier here?
Well... a Dutch driver just won the F2 championship.
And is moving on to Formula E instead of Formula 1. Which is cool and progressive.
> Tuesday I have one day to get my stuff together and then I'm leaving for Fuji. When I come back from Fuji I won't even be coming home. I'll have to ask my sister to bring new luggage and go to Germany for Mercedes. From there I go to England for Suzuka race support I think for MGP. From there I go straight to Valencia because I thought it wasn't worth doing two extra flights for one day. I've a week there... then I lose track.
