...personally, I think SE would benefit from simply having its staff hang out with some of the regulars more - even just lurk in the TL. Staff could pick up a thing or two on how to effectively use meta from the people who are the experts on it, as well as getting a crash course in "power user culture", so to speak.
@Magisch Meh... But perhaps it's time to ask what that was supposed to mean, how it should be interpreted ;) I have good hopes it's not as bad as it seems.
@Tinkeringbell It's right in the answer. They don't want to send new users to meta because even employees get panic attacks there. Well, what is it useful for then? They're moving feature requests off of meta with the new bug tracker, and meta consensus means nothing as meta users represent 0.15% of users. What else is meta good for?
I think I can see where it matches, and I think it may be good. I've seen the same crap on IPS: Mad/rude user makes meta post, meta post becomes hot and in the side bar, and more mad/rude users from across the network chime in... That's not the thing I'd like to present to new users either!
(Wasn't helping that this was about a very popular HNQ post on IPS either, so we already had lots of people coming in)
@Tinkeringbell Someone who is able to use it to communicate effectively, clearly get their point across, and be able to respond to people who have questions / criticisms. Basically... what a lot of mods do (not necessarily me, @Marshmallow) on a regular basis.
@Magisch Eh, not the way I read it :/ I still read Sara's answer in the same light as Tim's original post, which for me means that We're removing Hot on Meta as I don't want to send new people to a place where people have these experiences. shall be interpreted as 'these posts tend up to show in Hot on Meta, and we don't want to send people to those kinds of posts'.
Well, hard is broad. It's not hard in the sense that you need some special skill. It's hard in the sense that you need some persistence for some while until you get it to a satisfactory level
@Mithrandir Which technically sounds nice, though 'able to respond to people' is something that is probably already ruled out purely due to time constraints?
Anyway, this is similar to IPS HNQ Removal, which the real solution is to allow mods remove a question from HNQ. Thus, I agree on the suggestion to allow mods to remove them from hot meta... that's all.
And in the next mod elections someone may run (and win) on a platform of using the featured feature to make the displeasure of meta known as much as possible
If they're like me (which they definitely are, but upgraded) they'd just decide on what to feature instead of rereading the same comments on importantish posts in hopes for an update
@MetaAndrewT. I think there's already an answer that suggest changing stuff to 'remove' instead of 'add', it can be dropped as a comment there (if there isn't already one)
@Magisch Are outside temperatures already hitting 40 over there? It's quite the news here, whether we'll reach it or not, and there may be a false reading involved :P
When did views/creation date/last activity moved from the sidebar to the space under the title? I don't see this mentioned in Recent feature changes to Stack Exchange (yet).
Very recently, past few minutes or so?, a new build was pushed out that changed the location of a question's stats from the top of the sidebar content to underneath the title.
I can't exactly put my finger on why this change feels odd. Perhaps it is because statistical information like that be...
@Mithrandir Nice speculation in the comments there... assumptions being made, and then reacted upon with 'better ideas' :P
@Magisch Cities are notorious for being even hotter in this kind of weather. I'm almost glad there's a lot of greenery and garden where I live, that helps with the heat.
hm. The heroine in this movie got stabbed in the shoulder with a screw driver, beaten up by generic badass #2, nearly drowned... and dies from getting shot in the shoulder? Or is she dead...
Oh, she didn't die
(watched Furie, which is basically John Wick was a Vietnamese woman, and instead of a dead dog, her daughter got kidnapped, and she's a retired badass. Also Avengence, which ended up being a better movie than I expected)
@ShaWiz this one appears to have some legitimate, albeit debatably low-quality, answers on Wordpress (where the profile is also blocked from answering). IP-blocked too, so... not doing anything at this point :)
@ShaWiz gone
@SonictheAnonymousWizHog gone
@SonictheAnonymousWizHog and gone
and with that, my pile is gone (smaller than I thought it was)
Yeah. E-mails don't really fall under GDPR as far as I'm concerned (unless it's a mailing thread you have with whoever you're GDPR-ing). I don't think mails from other people that just happen to mention your name are supposed to be shared.
Given the lack of a staff response or announcement in two hours, as well as a build being pushed out outside of normal work hours, I'm going to assume that the current build is a work-in-progress that got pushed to prod by mistake.
@Mithrandir Do you need a dog, or can a parrot help out too?
In fact I have no silver-tag badge but I suspect that my one silver badge may be lost. This suspect is depending on my memory (so that in fact any badge may not be lost). When I lost some badge, I can know ? — Hee Kwon Lee7 mins ago
^ Anyone know the answer to the question in there?
@Mithrandir sounds like the sort of gun Schwarzenneger would hold
@JourneymanGeek It's also maybe a status of having an ailment. Or is that not how nouns work
@Tinkeringbell 20 years from now the verb for totally obliterating someone or something with I dunno, a laser weapon or something, will be called GDPRing.
@JourneymanGeek WTH is "Avengence"? Do you mean the Nicholas Cage movie "Vengeance: A Love Story"?
I don't know how to put this, so I'm not gonna put it.
Nicholas Cage sucks.
Unless it's the Coens or some really badass director, he will continue sucking.
It's what, 5 a.m. there? If it is, I'm pretty sure you're up, refining your sleep-dodging skills.
@fbueckert Whoa, barely the beginning of the story then. Where the final boss comes and insults your intelligence, ancestors and survival skills and runs away.
Why, just recommend them to people you don't like.
BTW Tink I was gonna respond to a message of yours but I got carried away and don't remember what so you can just assume I responded to a message of yours.
One time they upvote/show support/whatever to some really nice fellow saving lives or something. You think, whoa, some community they got there! The next, some misogynistic A-hole's meme filled post makes it to the front page swiftly. Like WTH.
