@Tinkeringbell knitpick
@Magisch we're still working out stuff
Yep. I've got no clue what I'm doing XD
not knitting
true
I'm also not crocheting, eating, drinking or working right now :P
so it's settled
11:20
only the 'I know what I'm not doing' part
> when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth true form of procrastination.
Perhaps. I think I can procrastinate even a bit further by having lunch now :)
Not a bad idea.
11:38
!!/alive
@Derpy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
!!/hats
you too fail me, Smokey?
 (°OO°)
//(/\)\\
What is it?
11:47
it's obviously an owl, duh!
@EKons Again, I can see a whole lot of things it's not, but ...
@AndrasDeak But this one doesn't have 8 legs? Or why are there two braces in there? It's a really confusing spider.
actually, it's an ASCII-art portrait of John himself... :-P
@Tinkeringbell better? ^
Oh, I don't mind that one :P
Though that's a confusing spider too
aww, how cute
Still on my todo list ;)
amigurumi?
It has ... teeth?
11:52
@JohnDvorak ahh, the common jumping spider
@AndrasDeak Yep :)
ohhh, spiders...
let me check...
inb4 eightlegged ponies
11:54
Why does it never say where those things are discovered?
Now I don't know which places to avoid :P
@JohnDvorak typical Loki
my best bet is it's just a wolf spider eating a housefly
@JohnDvorak the original plan (which an annoying owl just ruined) was to skip pointing out that small detail.
inb4 John bites
12:01
@EKons ponies are a group project for owls: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/0/02/…
aw, that "nocookie"
@forest oh... Poor girl! Lol. So she ate the ravioli and was happy about it? ;)
@forest well... To be honest I am pretty sure that's the issue with all sites having responsive design, not only SE.
@Tinkeringbell well the flag queue isn't any bigger...
That's a start
And apparently I made @ArtOfCode happy
I want to get the flag queue to 0 or as close to it over the weekend :p
12:13
Good luck! XD I looked at them and I'm not sure enough to start handling yet ;)
@JourneymanGeek so what you're saying is we should raise more flags to make it a challenge?
brb, learning js to write a userscript that autoflags comments at random
Heh. Comments are easy flags to handle ;)
@Magisch eh the trick is hard flags
And deciding night we can and should mark the post about MSE mods status complete
12:25
brb learning machine learning to train a deep neural net that raises elaborate custom modflags at random
@AndrasDeak heh, you'd have to go a lot further than comment flags :P

Q: Are the machines upon us?

ccornI suspect that this MSE question (Screenshot) and an MO question by the same account (Screenshot) have been artificially generated. But I'm not sure. For a machine, those would be nice works of association, but that is not unheard of, as there are known paper generators such as SCIgen. The occas...

//(/\)\\
12:28
@JourneymanGeek No comment? Sheesh, I've been overdoing stuff then :P
@Magisch Thought I had already done that... done it again!
@Derpy the hats command is a bit of a special case
It only works during Winter Bash
@Tinkeringbell you closed it, but didn't delete
how? :P
12:35
@Magisch Yeah, thought I pressed 'delete' too. I blame buggy internet ;)
This is such a nice change of pace
stuff just poofs
I think I'm going to start using a userscript here... :P
@Tinkeringbell eh. I usually wait for someone to comment + phone
@Magisch I haven't even settled in yet :p
Kaboom x2
12:40
That was fast :D
> I'm calling from Stack Exchange Inc. It looks like you posted a blatantly off-topic question on Meta Stack Exchange, the Stack Exchange community that asks and answers questions about the Stack Exchange network. If you do that again, Shog will be on your door.
@Mithrandir Yeah, but I'm now wondering if we really should delete site-recommendation stuff?
We can't threaten people. We can't mail them bobcats any more either
ah, yeah, CoC :P
@JourneymanGeek the industrial digging equipment or the adorable cat?
12:42
@Magisch the restraining order is unclear
Y'all get a moderator room yet?
Nope. I can make my own, I think?
Ahh thats right
You can, yes
you have the chat diamond too
12:43
Done ;)
Now if my internet would be a bit more collaborative today...
Now you can truly plot in the shadows
"The Pet Store"
You've got two dogs and a parrot. Seems like a logical choice to me.
@Magisch Meh, I don't think there'll be much plotting.
@Mithrandir I'm practical. It's called Mod Room.
@Tinkeringbell implied :P behind it
12:46
@Tinkeringbell Depends. How often do you take screenshots of the data analysis? Or other graphs?
Never. ;)
@Mithrandir well, in all seriousness, if another non-pet mod is appointed, the name would lose its point (not to mention it will be calling the new mod a "pet" when they aren't one)
@EKons Or we could make it a selection criteria... avatar has to match the room name :P
but it's not an avatar alone that makes a pet, it's the whole person :P
12:49
for example, the Geek is usually the Geek, not dog #2
it's all in good humor anyways
even tinkeringbell wasn't always a parrot, she used to be a field of tulips
:D
You've got a good memory ;)
now she's an anti-green-parrotist parrot ;-)
quietly pushes googleusercache to the site yeah, lets just say that
@EKons I'm not entirely anti green. I can't be, it would make @doppelgreener upset ;)
12:51
or he would become triplegreener in protest
That second version looks better ;)

@Catija WE LOVE HATS! Winter Bash will begin in 0 days, 0 hours, 12 minutes, and 8 seconds.
and that is your new clue.
@Magisch lol, true, especially since he's often the double greener
@Derpy can't enable that until we know when it starts
@Mithrandir And what does all of this point to?
12:57
@Derpy I almost got excited, then realized it's a quote...
@Catija yep, they didn't notice. Have some pop-corn, I have been trying to give them clues for about 3 hours now....
@andmyself nice hand :-P
@andmyself and... what should you check then?
@Derpy chicken parrot hunt?
let's make this "green parrot hunt" ;-)
13:01
while I can understand it is indeed Friday, next one who calls ME the room clueless sleepy-head should probably think twice.
Let's recap:
I have posted a knitted image of a countdown...
A game box with Animuson name on it...
I tried the //!hats command...
what could all of this mean?
@Peter Mortensen, that's great! I am so thankful. Can I please get a yes or no to my yes/no question, pretty please? — Jesse Steele 31 mins ago
Does not seek discussion would probably apply here too.
Don't think they'd do any better on meta.ELU
@Derpy wait, that's a countdown??? I thought it's someone's user ID...
In my experience, people coming from ELU that had a bad experience disguise a rant in a long-winded discussion full of boring semantics to get the answer they want while it all could have been avoided with a flag or two
Last clue: if Catija actually managed to understand what I am trying to say here, she probably must be laughing too by now.
@Derpy not sure what to tell you.
13:06
This is Catastrophic

user image
You probably recognize this, right?
They.. don't:P
Yeah, sure. Someone posted about it on MSE.
And I am trying to get them to realize... without luck
@Catija You would think they noticed by now... nope
Derpy is full Terrence Malick today
Eh, it's non-obvious.
13:08
well, can't really make it more obvious than reposting this...

@Catija WE LOVE HATS! Winter Bash will begin in 0 days, 0 hours, 12 minutes, and 8 seconds.
@Tinkeringbell mine is usually Stack Ex-Chang, but my language is not set to Chinese
@Derpy I found it...
So many souls...
What's with the Zack Snyder cut hypes BTW? Just accept DCEU sucks at the moment and get over it
@Tinkeringbell great, now take some pop-corn. Let's see if @mith will realize it too :P
13:12
I hate that every disappointing movie gets a 'the director cut was awesome but they left the good parts out' vibe thanks to Snyder
For popcorn, I have to go shopping first. But as things here are still working crappy (my dev server can't keep up with the typing I'm doing for a weird reason...)... I think I'm going to do groceries now ;)
I still don't know if there's anything that I should have realized
It's that "hatter" event again...
@Tinkeringbell the solution is simple: Bring your wrath upon the keyboard
@andmyself hatters gonna hat, I have bigger fish to fry
More like upon IT and have them get rid of this whole 'development is done on a server' idea.
13:14
And I'm still intoxicated by the fact that I can see avatars again
Ah. Found it.
Now I'm going to ruin the fun... ;)
welcome to the Illuminati club then :P
Isn't the URL only differs by 1 number?
So that? That was the magnificent thing I should have realized?
13:18
(lag attack)
I am doing fine on the sleepy scale then
@Mithrandir oh boy
5 pinned items. Hmm.
In a room full of ROs and mods and devs
!!/blame
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ It's Journeyman Geek's fault.
13:21
@SmokeDetector darn right buddy
!!/hats
@EKons is that what it looks like when someone fails the Turing test?
@EKons they need to turn that command on first
yeah, I wanted to see if the command is already on :P
13:23
They're fast but not that fast
(and also provide a clue for those who haven't figured it out yet! ;-) )

Q: Most of the spam I receive is on webapps.SE

LynobI don't have statistics to backup my claims, I hope you do. I just flagged an answer as spam on webapps.SE. Most of the spam I reported are: Posted as answers On https://webapps.stackexchange.com The moderators are relatively slow to remove it (understandably, it's okay) I get a spam answer ...

Is WebApps being hit by a troll?
yeah
So bad luck then
there has recently been an occurrence of a spammer over Webapps.SE, this isn't the first time
13:28
AAAAAAARGH STOP TRUNCATING QUESTION TITLES
uh... where?
I've got only meta.SE open at the moment

Q: How can I start off to become a useful member of this community?

Goran7777I understand that the rules are very strict, and should be as such, so how can I start off successfully and become a useful member of the community? The advice of experienced members would be welcome. Note: I do not just need faster ways to get reputation points, I want to be a useful community...

looks like the truncation isn't very destructive
the point still goes through
It is destructive to your retina
And mental wellbeing

Q: Prevent users from sharing private keys in cryptocurrency related communities

Paul BergBeing an active member of the Ethereum StackExchange community, I stumble upon many threads started by new users containing sensitive information about their digital wallets - private keys and 12-words mnemonics. Here's just two examples I found in my recent revision history: How to generate a...

Haha bloody goldmines, those sites
is there a relevance to these oneboxes?
13:37
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ the question titles don't truncate except on smaller screens I suspect
@AndrasDeak nope, just my normal style of linking something and jabbering about it
@JourneymanGeek that's screenist
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ some mine coins out in the cold rivers of the north, wielding powerful gpu units and fighting wild bears. Some fish for them on Ethereum.SE
I like big screens and I cannot like.
user194636
Or type 🙂
> While we're very deliberately seeking folks that can constructively disagree with us, 'constructively' is a very key modifier, and we need to see that over a period of time.
Is a little worrying from the outside
user194636
13:49
How so?
For any other company, you'd read that as "Absolutely no disagreements, and if you do, we'll fire you"
@Magisch in a sense, they need reasonable people who can yell at them politely
user194636
I wouldn't.
Hence "a little". Despite its flaws, SE seems straightforward on issues like these
> Our appointed moderators will have full agency to correct any chain of correspondence that appears to be going off the rails, no matter who was originally driving the train. Sometimes it's better to let an objective party step in and handle things, we'll just leave it at that.
user194636
13:51
I think one would have to work quite hard to read something sinister into "constructively disagree".
FWIW for a reasonable definition of "constructive" I agree with that sentiment fully. It's just that is 100% common corporate double speak for "we need yes-people"
In fact... and this is a pun worthy of you...
we're moderating rods.
Maybe I'm jaded from other companies pulling this all the time
user194636
@Magisch You may well be right, it just doesn't match my personal experience. I may have been lucky. Or naive, it's hard to tell the difference sometimes.
@Magisch I can assure you that quite literally what's that is what we got.
and I do think our independance is essential.
13:52
I hope you're right, and I trust you and tink to maintain that independance in the face of things
But they also want people with the sense to sometimes "Hey! Can we have a word please?"
(I never really interacted with chris but he seems reasonable too)
So here's what I can promise.
user194636
Doesn't he (ChrisF) have five diamonds now?
@Magisch You can always call us out if things go wrong... but be constructive XD
13:53
@PaulWhite for SE, I generally agree
despite what ... happened recently, this company is largely free of the kind of crap that other companies do at the daily due to marketing
that quite literally what's in that post is kinda more than what we got told ;)
user194636
I don't agree with everything Tim Post says or does, but I have no doubt he is sincere and well-meaning in his efforts.
And I literally have barely warmed my seat XD
@PaulWhite That's a tremendous luxury as far as companies go, usually
@Magisch those folks are literally what's holding the community in place for now ;p
13:55
I mean I agree I often disagree with tim and sometimes quite severely too but he never struck me as insincere or uninterested
And I think it would be a clear disservice to everyone if we weren't frank and honest when things were not going right.
indeed, some of the PR imperfections can be chalked up to being a genuine person and not filtering everything you say through 5 people in PR
user194636
As far as I even care to remember much of the recent drama, it seems like all of it could have been reduced to almost nothing by a simple application of the "cockup over conspiracy" rule, and trusting that SE meant well, even though they might have messed up again in the execution.
On SU, I have a running joke that my SU users are my constituents - and I try my best to represent their interests.
@PaulWhite don't think anyone is seeing it as a conspiracy tbh
13:56
@PaulWhite that's literally why I'm not mad at anyone involved
things generally follow the rule of least complexity, i.E some shadowy figure orchestrating all of it is exceedingly unlikely
user194636
@Magisch Not in here maybe. Or maybe not, I don't immediately recall everything everyone has said in the heat of the moment.
user194636
@JourneymanGeek I was a bit cross for a few days. Maybe a week. Time is a great healer.
@PaulWhite if it was someone I knew in the company... words would have been had
Not counting meta XD
@JourneymanGeek mad is a strong word. I'm still a bit disappointed and sore, but really there are other more suitable targets for genuine anger
user194636
13:58
@JourneymanGeek Constructively though eh 🙂
@PaulWhite I've posted angry once
I think it scared people a little ;)
user194636
Big scary dog avatar
It's a case of "I expected A+ from you and got a B, that is quite disappointing" vs "I didn't expect anything and instead of bringing an F you took a dump on the test sheet" which is actual anger
(actually any time I try not being nice, it scares people) ;p
@JourneymanGeek so mods can permanently remove user identifiable information from the history? (Sorry for the dumb question)
13:59
@JourneymanGeek It's true, if there's actually angry geek around then people need to seek cover
