I think it's more inclination and not talent
Friend of mine is a nurse and I have nowhere near the talent and energy required for that

It's from the same guy who made the "kitchen staff" post: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/305940/…

user310756
@Shog9 yep and you know my people skills are off the richter scale. Being a woman and all that.. Apparently I should have stayed in

I always respected the "kitchen staff" at the companies I've been working at.

@Shog9 Well, if you grow tired of software and moderating, you could always try Limbo dancing.

@YvetteColomb You're pretty nice though

Stack Overflow Isn’t Very Welcoming. It’s Time for That to Change. Not all of us are engineers, you learn by asking, down-voting is simply rude and disrespectful — Joe 5 mins ago
siiiggghh...

I'm tired of engaging whth those people. I suspect they are tying to just wear everyone down by continually posting 'Unwelcome' moans until nobody is left to refute them:(

But at least they're getting a basic point: "you learn by asking"

@πάνταῥεῖ ..or reading the f... freely available help information.

@Martin At least the triage needs to be left to humans. Poor AI like smokey helps, but can't be leashed out automated.
RTFM is considered rude :3

@hey Ah.. I always wondered..

I've been bringing up these decent variations earler. Just a little research, hold on please ...

user315433
@πάνταῥεῖ Not true for me, I learn by answering.

user310756
@user5389107 erm to a point. I am not tolerant of certain behaviour patterns. I am old and cranky

user315433
I knew nothing about Python scientific stack before beginning to answer questions about it.

Another rubber duck talker! Great, you'll make it @bro

user310756
@user5389107 I went to school with his sisters, they're really nice, shame he's such a tosser

hey
My job is to talk to a rubber duck, and ask it to write the code for me.

user310756
@Shog9 yeh the inbuilt prejudice in that statement is high

@hey That rarely worked out in an immediate way for my experience.

user315433
Isn't Upvotes make posters smile. SMiles are good a bit condescending? It's treating the OP like they can only understand baby talk.

7:25 PM
@hey Should that be rubber duck/drake?

Folks: Sometimes when listening to the colleagues mumbling while at coding stuff. If their WTF rate raises, I see some need to jump in. Why not here?

user310756
@hey that's a generalisation - but I can see that

@YvetteColomb Every time I think of Abbott I think about his "As they do the ironing" comment
ridiculous

user310756

@user5389107 him and Hockey. Don't get me started. I actually don't mind Turnbull.

@SonicWizard Oftentimes we want to poof why data, !!/test commands, !!/errorlogs, etc.

You can still use the "reply" button for those

Turns out searching for comments with "woman" in them leads to quite a few flaggable comments:

I'm commenting off topic just to say that you're beautiful. — Tushar Gogna Feb 18 '15 at 8:37

Yeah, there's about 1000 on SEDE, so I've been going through the more obvious ones.

@hey Yeah, there's definitely examples on both sides. But a non-zero amount of non-deleted anti-women comments.

the rest are about unrelated djangogirls, factory_girl ...

Not sure if Nick meant a certain Twitter activist digging up locked SO posts from 2009, but it would apply well.

A: On the false dichotomy between quality and kindness

Shog9First off, thank you for taking the time to write this. I've become very weary these past few weeks seeing folks trade arguments over this problem, as so often the participants treat each other like idiots... It's refreshing to see thoughtful analysis instead of yet more polemics. I agree with ...

user315433
Sounds like an argument in favor of hiding negative scores from the askers. Not sure about answerers.

More bricks in the wall?

9:59 PM
@bro I could see recording downvotes but not showing them on questions for a day or so after asking
Would avoid the "why bother to fix it it's already downvoted" trap many new authors fall into
So a theorethically new author could fix and get their question back on track before the downvotes show, whereas now a lot of them don't bother once their question is at like -6 and closed. Feels like a hole you're never getting out of

user315433
10:13 PM
I am not sure their thinking is "I really need to have positive or nonnegative score on this question". It's more like "I need an answer to this".
