01:44
Hiya, anyone around?
Sorta, but my stomach is pressing up against my brain. Sn, only barely.
Perhaps.
morning here
how are you all?
I am stuffed and thinking about a nap. How are you?
02:00
Ooh, Electorate, nifty.
I could've sworn I had that badge somewhere. Apparently, I was wrong
Heh, apparently I had exactly 600 question votes.
02:23
I have the desire to do some coding, but not the energy.
@GeorgeMarian Here, have a smore.
That does sound good, but there's just no more room.
So, I think I'm going to finish this cigar and then get horizontal.
Too bad my cable sucks and I don't have Netflix on my Xbox yet.
That also sounds pretty decent, enjoy!
Oh, they added voice support. :D
Though only while something is playing, for some reason..
LOL WTf?
I may have a headset somewhere. Maybe.
Why, yes. I do need money. But not at some crazy interest rate. =/
Stupid spam texts. =(
For some reason spam texts piss me off far more than normal spam, heh.
Though telemarketers are by far the worst annoyances these days.
02:31
They are a more intrusive, harder to filter out.
I rarely answer my phone if I don't recognize the number anymore.
I haven't gotten too many telemarketers or scams lately.
However, I get lots of calls from overseas recruiters.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: who the heck thought that recruiting would be a good job to outsource?
I get four or five calls a day, for some reason. If I had better cell reception, I might consider dropping the home phone.
I'm on the DNC list. So, most of the crap I get are scams.
Yeah, seems like you'd want the person doing the hiring being at least as comprehensible and competent as the person you'd like to hire.
I was getting bugged my marketers from my bank for a while. I kept telling them that I don't own a house. Why do you keep bugging me with crap for homeowners? I sure don't have a mortage through you guys.
Yeah, I am as well, but apparently every charity in the world thinks I have unlimited funds for them.
02:35
LOL
I don't mind dealing with someone w/ an accent. While I don't have an accent, I am an immigrant. So, I understand their situation.
What pisses me off even more is that they all use generic call centers, so it's not like the people on the phone are even from the charity...Seems like they could just save some cash for their cause by not hiring people to harass me every single day.
However, what bugs me is that many of them have crappy VOIP connections that sound worse than any crappy landline I've ever had. And they're just plain idiotic. I need to know more than the location and that it's a PHP job. Sheesh.
What really irks me about these recruiters is that they pretend like they are in the states.
"There's a job in this place. You interested?"
Hello! You're speaking with a British accent and using British idioms. You're not in America! I can tell.
@TimStone Yeah, pretty much.
I totally understand the need to save money and all, but just like those charities they're not doing themselves any good with such crappy quality.
Yeah, no kidding. I keep telling them to stop calling me anyway, I do give money when I can, but I do it online.
On my own time and conviction. :P
02:41
Right. Don't try to guilt me into doing it. That'll only piss me off.
Huh, apparently my great uncle recently met Stevie Wonder so showeth Facebook.
Ugh, yes. They're always trying that.
Yeah, hahah, it's incredibly random too, since he lives in Montross, VA.
Apparently Stevie Wonder was there for someone's graduation, so.
02:44
That'll do it.
Anyway, suppose I should get working on what I mistakenly thought someone else was working on.
lol
I think I'm going to watch Anchorman.
Good stuff. :D
Yup. So many great one-liners.
Loud noises!
Eh, is there a good way to keep a PHPMyAdmin session alive?
I don't think using Reload Every to reload the page every 15 mins is a good idea...
02:51
Erm, can you modify the phpMyAdmin configuration?
No, unfortunately
Maybe I should speak to someone who can
It's certainly not such an important database to keep such high security on
03:22
Ah, good ol' IE-specific bugs.

2 hours later…
05:36
morning
@OctavianDamiean Afternoon
or that :)
05:54
Hmm, my chair is really starting to fall apart. I suppose I should decide on what I want to replace it with.
a chair with a net backrest. Those are great.
Yeah, there are a surprising number of chairs out there though. I'm hesitant to buy one without checking it out in person, but I don't know of any good chair stores around here, heh.
oh yea, personally checking them out is very important indeed.
06:25
Just blew 3 hours playing a game
@TimStone Ikea? If you like to build your own chair.
06:36
@TimStone I highly suggest a good ergonomic chair. :)
Yeah, I was planning to spring for something a bit more high-scale than Ikea ;)
How tall are you?
The chair I have may suit you well then.
Ah, very nice. The arm rests are adjustable too yeah?
06:41
That's an option. Mine are not, but they didn't remain on the chair for long.
morning.
On a side note, it's a great chair for guitar playing without the armrests. :)
I always end up putting too much pressure on my elbows, so I typically remove the armrests. heh
Of course, there's always the Aeron. Now that's a sweet chair.
Yeah, I'm not sure what I'd do without arm rests, though maybe that's just my arms being lazy.
Hahah, yeah, if you turn a blind eye to the price tag. ;)
It took some time to get used to the chair w/o the arm rests, but it's better ergonomics for me.
Well, the Body Built chair isn't cheap.
That's why I bought mine used. :)
Although I have sat in chairs that were designed similarly, and they were quite comfortable..
06:47
Absolutely worth it and I will be buying some kind of new ergo chair when I can afford it.
I saw the Aeron's cheaper on Amazon, of all places. Though, you don't get to kit it out as if you were buying them from a dealer.
Keep in mind that we're talking about chairs with 10 year warranties. They're built to last.
Yeah, that's a good point. I imagine I've already dropped a few hundred replacing these crappy Walmart-ish chairs I keep getting every year or so. Hell, something which doesn't shed little black bits all over my floor is already worth it :P
lol
I bought a $200 chair (for $160, I think) from one of the office stores. The cushion was worthless after a year.
It actually aggravated the problem with my right leg.
Ouch, that sucks. I guess it just highlights the benefit of having a proper chair.
Yup. At least for us computer jockeys.
Granted, some of my problems are likely due to being tossed by a bull. :)
Hahah, perhaps. This sounds like an interesting story. ;)
07:00
Quite. My brother saw the whole thing. Thankfully, that could have been the end of me.
I was chasing after a yearling that we had tied up in field to keep it from leading the rest of the herd through the fences. Well, it got out and was dangling the rope behind him. Apparently, the bull didn't like me chasing after one of his heard and came to deal with me.
Oh, wow, that's crazy
He sent me flying in a nice little parabolic arc and then tried to stomp me.
I still remember rolling away from his hooves thinking "Now you've done it, George." :D
That's life on a farm. Dangers around every corner. lol
Damn, well at least you lived to tell the tale eh?
Also, what the hell just came on the Cooking Channel? raises brow
Precisely.
I think it changed my outlook on life just a touch. :)
@TimStone I wouldn't know. I had to downgrade my cable.
07:07
lol
@GeorgeMarian Yeah, I imagine so!
Alright, I should get to bed. G'night.
G'night

3 hours later…
10:39
Oh cool, it's now possible to link to individual revisions
hello
how?
10:51
This is the most bizarre spam E-Mail I've received in a long time
Dear Sir/Madam
Am Mr.Ned and i would like to order COLUMNS from you and would like to know the types and sizes you have in stock as well as the prices and the types of credit cards that you take for payment.Thank you and waiting to hear from you as soon as possible.
Regards
Ned
11:06
Hrm
Why does this drop at '59.1', '58.1', etc. if time is set to 60, but drops at '5.0', '4.0', etc. if time is set to 5?
This must be a pretty sad floating point error I've got here :P
time = 60.0;

setInterval(function() {
    if (time >= 0.1) {
        time -= 0.1;
    }
    $(".timer").each(function() {
        this.innerHTML = time.toFixed(1);
    if ((time * 10) % 10 < 1) {
        blink(this);
    }
    });

}, 100);
oh, it must be a toFixed fail :/
or summat.
certainly 0.01 isn't the happiest of all ideas.
don't have idea about it.Sorry
I'll just do it properly instead, although it's not what I wanted to focus on.
you want to fall whole number 6.0,5.0 instead of 6.1,5.1
Is this the requirement?
You're looking at old code.
No worries.
so what do you want exactly?
11:20
I was rather looking at the "animation" really
jsfiddle.net/3WvYT/1 is more like it.

3 hours later…
14:09
@Pekka lol.
14:32
I am seriously ready to just pay someone to do this damn site for me.
@badpssockpuppet Math.floor makes more sense
I don't know what I thought @TimPost was saying.
@Hoagan I was whining :) I do that from time to time
@TimPost We all do.
Those who say they don't proceed to whine about whiners.
Screw it, I'll do it in MS WORD, maybe someone will feel sorry for me.
And I get the authentic 'mom and pop' angle!
@TimPost Oh my goodness, no you don't. That's a crime against the internet!
14:36
With lots and lots of animated gifs
oh, it will be HUGE
I've trashed four versions in one week. This is a problem.
It is against my better judgement, but I'll post part of the trashcan here.
I suck, so bad at web design.
The only real problem there is with the offerings area
I write device drivers :/
I just wanted to make a JS / image free site
Well, its either a very slow connection or a network error, but I don't see anything
@TimPost I think the problem is you're not using a fixed width layout
all the cool kids do that for a reason
I see it now
14:41
@badpssockpuppet I was shooting for fluid width
Well, spot on @badpssockpuppet. Use fixed, for goodness sake
@TimPost yeah, and you managed to make it work mostly, except for the center.
Because fluid is not easy to get right
It's quite the achievement actually
If you really want to use fluid, use it with media queries
14:42
The simplest thing you can do to make it work right is get rid of all the borders and paddings for the .salebox stuff
@badpssockpuppet yeah, if I could get that to work, I might be able to salvage it.
and add some spacing inside each box.
then again I'm not sure exactly how to go about to doing that
Also, use a better color scheme
@badpssockpuppet I'll try that.. @YiJiang I have no idea what that is. I'm seriously starting from nothing and learning as I go.
nah, the color scheme didn't strike me as bad.
14:44
My goal is a site *NIX geeks might like.
the bottom disclaimers may be a little too tongue in cheek, make sure your 'employers' like it.
@badpssockpuppet I own the place
@badpssockpuppet It's my company.
also you might want to use a fixed height for those saleboxes.
make it a grid essentially
14:46
@badpssockpuppet I can't ..... the offerings vary too much
3×2 or 2×3
hmm, perhaps
@TimPost I think the problem is the colors -- dark and darker...
big black lines around the content
@badpssockpuppet @YiJiang thanks for the advice. I'll implement it when I'm not so frustrated with it.
@Hogan Yeah, Once I get the layout working, I can play with that
Just use something like this -- colorschemer.com/schemes it is CSS so you can try out a bunch till it pops.
14:49
I changed width, added box-shadow (for lulz; it doesn't actually look good) and took a few rules down.
add a height rule perhaps.
then again it breaks at soon as you change width
nah, I'm afraid you just can't do that stuff without tables in fluid width
@TimPost have you considered using blueprint.css -- it is kinda great
does not resize tho :(
Even synergy is grumpy tonight. I am simply combating bad juju. @hogan @badp thanks ... I'll try it
@TimPost nah, it won't work
for now just hack it as a table and rework it somedayâ„¢ :/
@badpssockpuppet I'll probably end up with a fluid header and 1000px fixed witdth
But thanks, folks for letting me know I at least got close.
@TimPost if you end up using a fixed width stuff for the width you might want to try some grid schemes such as 960
People argue against this for people who are learning
14:55
@badpssockpuppet Yeah, I saw that while searching.
but I take it you want to get this done ASAP rather than learning :)
yeah 960 and blueprint are the same kinda thing.
@badpssockpuppet I tend to learn fast. I want to be able to maintain this, so if I need to learn more, well .. I need to learn more :)
Dunno; I can't say I'm done learning
actually I haven't started at all
just superficial knowledge
960 is set to one size where blueprint can be anything
14:57
Thanks guys, at least I have hope :)
And if you have trouble just ask on the w3schools forums!
I kid I kid.
@badpssockpuppet Every ounce of know how is on the resources I use, the trick is searching enough to figure out exactly what you need to search.. This is n00b stuff that has been asked 100 times, I just have to find it.
And while frustrated with the atrocities I committed, I downloaded templates (marvelous waste of about 200 bucks) that committed even BIGGER atrocities. I'm in atrocity city, but darn it, I'm moving out. Thanks folks.
Megamind would describe my current intellectual residence as "megatrocity" (one word)
And dammit, if one more five year old blog post in need of maintaining turns up, I'm visiting Googleplex and farting in the lobby.
Now that is just a challenge -- trying to get google to show your old blog posts....
15:25
@Hogan You would be amazed at the steaming goat vomit I've stepped in over the last week as a direct result of using Google.
@Hogan When you aren't quite sure what to search for, Google results are like clowns with big smiles and subtle erections.
Also, @TimPost <http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fnoc3270.com%2Fnew%2F&charset=%28‌detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.2> - Repeated id attribute, gotta fix that
@YiJiang Yes, I know
@TimPost : Hmmm, not sure about clowns... more like ex-lovers, have pleased you in the past but now give you a peck on the cheek while holding a kitchen knife behind their back.
@Hogan I'm not sure, they want something from you .. the knife analogy doesn't quite fit.
I, for one would never give someone holding a chef's knife to me what they wanted.
At least those people have the decency to imply, through their actions "You gonna die no matter what". Google is more of a "come sit on my lap" kind of thing, as far as their results go.
15:43
Well it is behind the back
Meh, getting cranky. See you fine folks tomorrow.
16:08
hi

1 hour later…
Seems okay
thanks
material anyway
I know
I just couldn't stand to read the original ... it was painful!
Should we VtC it as is?
I think we should. Voting ring Activate!
Meh, let a mod decline it, there's nothing wrong with it per se, just that it'll never happen
Might be a good idea to look for dupes though
17:38
yeah, not sure what dupes to look for
I figured I'ld leave that for Grace or Adam
man I want some ice cream!

Q: Show me other people's tag sets or favorited tags on their profile?

jcolebrandShow me other people's tag sets or favorited tags on their profile? We already pretty well show all the other information, including favorites, can we show their tag sets? This would also apply to the profiles on the SE network profile as well. There are reasons for wanting to see this, includi...

Is this a dupe?

2 hours later…
20:10
Is it true? Slashdot is down?
probably got slashdotted and can't handle the load
You do like 'em crickets eh?
Can we cause them to appear or are they merely your trained crickets?
@jcolebrand Connection reset, so it seems the webserver is forcibly down.
@jcolebrand they show up when a chat admin types /as -24 ... -- yo yeah, they're mine :)
20:15
@balpha well yeah, I knew they were yours :p
does that extend to room owner?
nope
Well can we? :p
maybe for christmas, if you're a good boy
I was, btw, in the process of creating another joke system account when I found this:
Is there anything you *can't* buy on the Internet? http://tumbleweedsrus.com/
:)
20:23
I half expected that to be about weed proper
of course you did
wow, another gaping void fan?
or just the result of an image search? :)
