@Guero interesting ... for landlords?

user202362
unless you have the support from parents or partner, living in a city like London on internship would make it very 'interesting' - as you would have to invent whole lots of ways to cover your bills

1:11 AM
or if its remote
that is TOTALLY the sort of job that ought to be remote

user202362
unless the whole office is remote

interns needs to learn things, so they probably have to be in the office most of the times

@Guero you might make a good room owner.

installing some old tools, it can be a hassle if they are no longer easily downloaded

Q: Review queue should give me duplicates with low vote count

Madara UchihaGiven the new Mjolnir, I have a feature request. I'd prefer it if when the review queue wants to give me a duplicate on a tag in which I can single handedly vote and close, that it's give me one that doesn't already have 4 votes on it. The idea is that I can take on the "harder" cases, and leav...

ok

I think changing this didn't fit in a 6 to 8 days schedule ...

Not sure though. I mean, from a broader aspect of that situation, do you want to have a sort in the review queue? For example, by cherry pick (I mean vote count)? While it may seem trivial to implement from a "oh, just sort by votes when viewing the duplicate review queue if I have a gold tag badge in every tag that I entered in the filter" point of view, in reality it is a rather large thing to ask.
It would be akin to requesting sort functionality in the review queue. While I think that may be worthwhile, it is certainly not trivial.
If you want me to post something to that extent as an answer I will, but I am not sure that is what you had in mind with the "increased attention"

@rene You can use the SE API and a US to do that. (You'd need a JS guru to write that, tho)

@TravisJ I kind of like the idea to make it easier for gold badges to use their hammer so I reckoned that sort would help there, yes. Feel free to answer, I'm happy to award it, even if it is not my desired outcome.
@BhargavRao I hear @JasonC is all into User scripts these days so I'll let him figure that one out.

7:29 AM
Yeah, let's get @JasonC to write the sort.
I feel like I made some progress. Setup a headless hyper-v server with a sql db exposed that now has the asp.net schema. Time to get drunk! Oh, wait, it's monday :(
Time for some water! :P

Monday? In what timezone are you?

Oh, yeah, its 30 minutes past monday now
I am in California, so it is 12:30 am here

Time to get drunk then ...

user202362
I would assume problame = whiner

Maybe they are just really good at blaming

That will all work for me

They must be experienced with the blame at that point. Perhaps if it was more of a newblame then they wouldn't have gotten stuck.
Oh no, sir, this blame is very pro and has been around for ever.

what a waste of space, totally expect a top open drawer under that little lid

so... just discovered that Sql Server allows unicode characters in columns/tables/dbs names
so, not only you can call a column "[░▒▓]"
you could also put a Zero Width space in a column name....
and then have fun watching someone attempting to write a t-sql statement that uses that column...

9:08 AM
@Derpy ‮like this?

@ShadowWizard I get that one also now and then. I blame the CDN provider but it doesn't happen often enough to have a clear repro.
@Derpy that is just ... evil ....

@rene CDN? Isn't it supposed to serve only static content like CSS and JS?

@ShadowWizard No, I don't think so. Pages are also pushed out to the edge

Having SQL Injection attack inside column name is also cool.

@ShadowWizard mumble.....

9:10 AM
Select this field, and the database is nuked!

now, if we can only find a SQL instance where we can try this ...

@ShadowWizard problem: the field name would contain spaces, and that means it would have to be written in [...] format
and the square braces would avoid the injection.
that said, there is still the possibility some ORM forgets to add the braces and then ends up triggering the SQL injection.

Hey guys, I have a question/discussion about moderator decisions - I don't think it belongs here on meta because it is rather specific to ask patents, but the problem is that ask patents only has one active moderator, so .. Mind giving me some input - am I wrong? patents.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/351/…

@rene @ShadowWizard anyway, the "column name that triggers sql injection when used in a statement" idea could be worth exploring. If anything it would give Microsoft a good reason to filter unicode characters in object names....

9:32 AM
@DonQuiKong IMHO, instead of discussing whether CM's action was right/wrong, I'd directly discuss whether the question is on/off-topic first on meta. If the community decides it's on-topic, then you have a better chance to get it opened.

Hello!

Hello!

@DonQuiKong in general asking for off-site resources/services is discouraged around the SE network because they attract spam, go stale quickly and is more a poll then having a correct answer. As @robertcartaino is a CM I believe he acted correctly there and so did the mods. The question should remain closed and such questions should be off-topic.
But that is just my opinion, YMMV

@Elephant it had 4 reopen votes - that's basically every active user with voting rights there

I am very new to meta

9:39 AM
@DonQuiKong AFAIK ask patents is a bit different then other sites. It might have a stricter policy that CM's likes to enforce. But an answer from Robert on your meta question would be nice.

@PrittBalagopal do you need introduction to meta?

@rene I think if the question was/is off-topic is not the point, I think a mod shouldn't vote against the community - at least that's my understanding of moderation here - and ask patents with only a few people able to vtc / reopen makes that even more important
@rene I flagged it for him, flag was marked helpful, post got a downvote (correlation, not necessary causation)

@Derpy true!

@DonQuiKong anyway, I pinged Robert for you on that question he closed. I'm sure he'll respond with an answer in 6 to 8 days ... if not weeks.
@DonQuiKong A mod is part of the community, don't pretend they are not.

@rene I'm fine with him disagreeing with the original post, I just don't think he should impose answers to whats on/off topic onto the rest of us ;)
and I don't know how to talk to someone who mostly doesn't respond :/

9:46 AM
Other issue is, I don't know how active Matthew Haugen (protem mod) on patents.SE is. Didn't see any visible recent activities, though he may doing his (invisible) mod activities.
Perhaps that's the reason the first flag got helpful, while the second flag wasn't.

I think it was marked as helpful in the sense of "okay to flag it but I disagree so I don't do anything ";) I haven't seen any visibla actions by matthew

@ShadowWizard could cross-post on a db-oriented chat room...
maybe someone has an idea :P

@DonQuiKong well, you have now brought it to the tavern. it might well be that the almighty Shog will poke Robert, gently.

@rene I admit I don't get that reference - is shog a person or a concept?

10:54 AM
@Derpy isn't it Pannenkoek? Let's ask @Bart ...

Things get really murky when you add poffertjes to that question.

That is so very true ... Dutch Haute Cuisine at its best

A pannekoek (plural pannekoeken) or Dutch pancake is a style of pancake with origins in the Netherlands. Pannekoeken are usually larger (up to a foot in diameter) and much thinner than their American or Scotch pancake counterparts, but not as thin as Crêpes. They may incorporate slices of bacon, apples, cheese, or raisins. Plain ones are often eaten with treacle (syrup made of sugar beets), appelstroop (an unspiced Dutch variety of apple butter) or (powdered) sugar and are sometimes rolled up to be eaten by hand or with cutlery. Basic ingredients are flour (plain, self-rising or both), milk, salt...

So @Prit why are you here? Most new people coming here got something like "My question was deleted, I demand a CM to undelete it!" in mind. ;)
Also, be careful with @rene, he's a delicate flower.

I.. couldn't remember why I'm here. I just remember I have been here before MSE/MSO split.

at least you can tell that the bootleg figure is indeed fake. Some other ones are pretty accurate
and that is a big problem at anime con markets.

I'd expect that even for genuine articles there's a lot of variance in quality.

Waiting for bootleg figure that looks better than the original

@Elephant would unlicensed products count too?

> The genius who turned his computer blog into an internet giant

> In 2008, Joel Spolsky came up with a web site where developers could solve their queries in a collaborative way. He joined forces with Jeff Atwood and founded Stack Overflow, a question and answer platform that is now among the most visited websites in the world. "I think it will become something standard that all programmers will use," he predicted by then. He was right.

@Guero why bad facebook feed?
Because SO is considered anti-social?

user315433
Because of its bias toward things you already agree with. But seriously, the whole article is quite readable in Chrome / Google Translate. Spanish->English is not a complicated translation for robots.

@BhargavRao @rene It would be exceedingly clunky, though. The API, afaict, doesn't give access to review queues. So you'd have to scan /questions and look for ones with low close vote counts. And an efficient sort wouldn't really be possible since you're essentially operating on a stream of questions. The best you could do is filter.
I can think of a couple ways to get an approximation of this efficiently and also work it into the review queue ui, except it would rely on huge review queues making skipping of questions a non-issue. On smaller sites it might be problematic.
There's also the issue that more recent questions might not have a lot of cv's just because they're more recent. So you'd have to do a bit of balancing to determine "low cv count because new" vs "low cv count because difficult"
I mean the naive solution is to just make a userscript that keeps doing get requests to emulate the "skip" button until it finds one that meets the criteria, but then you'd probably get throttled and temporarily ip banned pretty quickly.
The better solution to that problem is to probably just have se add a close vote count filter to the existing tag / reason filter on the review queue.
@Derpy That's awesome.
I am definitely going to make that.

Mod tools shows VTC'd questions with required votes left, but there's no tag and it's limited to the last 30 days

Yeah but the mod tools only have to do that sort when you open the mod tools page. The review queue would have to do it for every review (so that you e.g. don't get hit with questions somebody else handled), which is a hugely higher volume of requests.
Anyways the review queue already has some amount of ordering to it, so a filter would be smoother and also not be in a significantly worse order than a sort.
And it'd integrate nicely into the filters that you can already set instead of needing some other "sort vs no sort" ui piece.

user315433
3:26 PM
API can return 100 questions in a given tag (with gold badge) with each request.

user315433
So, with 10 requests you get 1000 questions (say, newest ones). Filter those by close votes.

user315433
But the problem is, you only get close_vote_count not refined by what kind of close votes those are.
