New job ad: VP of Product... how does it mesh with the existence of Director of Product?

user315433
I suppose VP > Director... for example, Jaydles is VP of Community; Tim and Abby are Directors of Community...

I.e., the opposite of what they are now.

In this post I see "We should think of "voting" as a fuel for the growth of any good SE sites."
Can anyone explain me how voting is a fuel for the growth of any good SE sites? /cc @rene

What are the conditions for nominating for elections

@RaghuAriga On most sites: 300 rep on that site. On SO: 3000 rep and four certain badges, but you're too late for the current election.

@Pandya I'd compare it to water rather than fuel. The site being a plant.

user315433
Point being, if a user's participation receives no feedback, it tends to wither away pretty soon.

@NormalHuman this was an extremely common problem on SE 1.0 sites; folks routinely complained about posting something and getting... crickets. No upvotes, downvotes, comments, death-threats... nothing.

Which, it turns out, is a great way to get folks to leave.

Sorry to interrupt, but have a mini-rant to post. The Traffic column of the list of sites uses "median visits per day over the last two weeks". Sure, median is a more robust measure of center than mean in the presence of outliers... but it has drawbacks too. In particular, it's not suitable for averaging data points with seasonal fluctuations, such as a strong weekday/weekend pattern of the traffic of most sites. The median will simply ignore weekends.

user315433
A profession-oriented Site A has 100K visitors/day, except on weekends when it drops to 30K. The median number of visitors: 100K.
An entertainment-oriented Site B (like Arqade) has 100K visitors/day, except on weekends when it rises to 200K. The median number of visitors: 100K.

user315433
Reporting weekly stats would make more sense: 560K/week for the 1st site, 900K/week for the second.

user315433
Or, take the median number of weekly visitors (over a month, say) and divide by 7 to get a representative figure for daily traffic.

Unrelated: the sidebar of the election page is kind of lying...

user315433
> Individual users' voting choices are always private; only the aggregated tally will be made public.

user315433
There is nothing "aggregated" in the downloadable ballot file; the individual users' choices are recorded there.

Blame @JonEricson:

Q: Clarify the election ballot privacy policy

Jon EricsonDuring an election current example, the sidebar reads (in part): The vote tallies are private until the election is complete. After 8 days, the final voting results will be freely downloadable from this page forever, and we will calculate the winners using OpenSTV with the Meek STV metho...

user315433
And if they are recorded in the order of vote submission (I'm not sure about this), one can cross-reference that against the Constituent badge to find out who voted how (on smaller sites, where the frequency of votes drops below 1 per 5 minutes soon after election begins).

user315433
Alright... my revenge to @JonEricson will be this:

Center-aligned paragraphs look nothing short of ridiculous. And there's a grammatical error in the last sentence.

user315433
(The paragraphs look even worse at 110% zoom which is a pretty common setting among Chrome users.)
