@TheCarver As the questions is deleted, I can't look at it in detail, but from the link you posted, the title of the question is "mail-php-not-sending-with-godaddy". I'm not exactly imaging a stellar question here, on the contrary, from the data I have gathered it appears the question is a help request (NARQ) that's probably one or more of Too Broad, Unclear, and OffTopic reason 13 in addition to a dup of similar help requests, also mostly off-topic, of similar pseudo-programmers trying to spam users and who are stuck with GoDaddy and a lack of debugging skills. — bjb568 31 secs ago

The assumption was that subconsciously they felt that if they didn't, they weren't adding value.

The artist working on the queen animations for Battle Chess was aware of this tendency, and came up with an innovative solution. He did the animations for the queen the way that he felt would be best, with one addition: he gave the queen a pet duck. He animated this duck through

my understanding was that answers that just linked to your library on github were evil and likely to get you in trouble.
they're okay, here and there. but not in massive amounts
true.
I'm also not sold on having a question asking "How do I do ____ in T-SQL" being answered with "use this SQLCLR library instead." but the answers aren't just spam.
hrm.
his github code appears to be under some custom licence.
i hope he knows that by posting excerpts from it on SO he's re-licensing it as what ever the code license we're using is these days.
@MikeEdenfield that is why he won't post any.
15:22
he has at least once.

A: Multithreaded caching in SQL CLR

Jonathan MagnanBased on Andras answer, here is my implantation of a "SharedCache" to read and write in a dictionary in SAFE permission. EvalManager (Static) using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using Z.Expressions.SqlServer.Eval; namespace Z.Expressions { /// <summary>Manager class for eval.<...

too bad for him then.
does he ever answer a question and not pimp one of his libraries?
that might sway my opinion a lot.
yes

they're usually just very shit
like try this or similar
15:25
I mean I've pimped my blog a few times on SO but I don't just sit around waiting for a relevant question to come up just so I can do that.
anyway, thanks to Derpy I am re-addicted to Dwarf Fortress and am about to embark into a volcano.
@MikeEdenfield blog != paid library tho
@MikeEdenfield With the little DF experience that I have, that sounds like a very bad fun idea.
that's also true.
@Doorknob in modern versions of DF you almost have to, because it guarantees you relatively high-level magma
with which to run your forging industry
15:28
@MikeEdenfield I wait for the day someone will realize that Dwarf Fortress still needs a better UI :P
i started playing again yesterday and thought "this guy's put a ton of work into this, maybe I should donate."
and then I remembered I did donate, once.. like 8 years ago.
I've seen other games with better UI decribed as "Dwarf Fortress, but with graphics!"
townsgame.com <-- that one is mentioned a lot
I don't need "graphics". Not overlapping icons/characters would already be an improvement.
but the sheer amount of stuff in this game, it already had problems running on my PC. I can't imagine if it had to stop and compute polygons
well the text font and "graphics pack" are separate but it still uses the text font too much.
that was my point, sorry for oversimplifying
reading some of the text can be an exercise in code breaking :)
15:35
I will have to try again and see if Stonesense can give some sort of real awareness of your surroundings.
[ SmokeDetector ] Offensive answer detected, blacklisted user: How can I collect data from a hydrophone? by James Zebadee on electronics.stackexchange.com
you can get a "newb pack" that comes with all kinds of neat toys, including stonesense.
DwarfFortress sounds fun
I am fine with losing. I just hate to lose because there was a "C" that looked like an innocent "c"
oh, well you need to use a nice graphics pack then.
uh oh. I see a cat. game over.
neat:
> As of June 2014, it is also possible to use Stonesense as a live overlay of the map in the main Dwarf Fortress window, replacing the usual 2D tiles.
15:43
They should (if this is isn't possible already) do it so that if you are extremely lucky you can get a good mega-beast with build-destroyer 3 and the "adopt dwarf" cat ability
just think of the fun of having a dwarf and his "little pet" going rolling over all of your buildings.
16:00
Anyway, I often wonder if Dwarf Fortress would actually sell well if it was sold in boxed version available on shops, and also with a decent UI.
Same for NetHack
you implying that Nethack doesn't have a "decent UI"? ಠ_ಠ

@Doorknob how could I not understand it...
when a game manages to look like a memory dump....
yes, because extinctionism is a perfectly normal example of perfectly normal gameplay
@Doorknob shhh. I am going to scare the other room users.
and to be fair, you still have to remember what character is what ;_;
16:16
@Derpy yes, that's better
minus the ugly line graphics of course ;)
16:53
have to go for now. Bye.

@MikeEdenfield Nah, I'm stuck with filling a swag form.
Also @JNat the "address giving conventions" vary here. So it would be useful to know who I'm giving the address to and who's going to look after it.

Q: What should we do about users who are proud to be help vampires?

Ben VoigtAnd happily, knowingly ignore site rules, because they get their answers. Example: (Click for larger image)

@MsYvette y'all might wanna look at the API's search options
Attempts to gain rep by knowingly answering bad questions should be punishable with the same 100 rep penalties as spam and serial offenders should be suspended or destroyed.
The whole site is indexed already; use that to narrow down possibilities and then see what you can do to make it smarter.
@bjb568 yeah, that's a crap statement. You can't know folks' intentions.
… unless they proudly proclaim it in the comments or have taken the tour or have 10k rep.

@bjb568 you posted an example of an asker stating that he was intentionally abusing the rules, and your solution was to punish answerers.
Clearly, you have a problem with reading comprehension. Presumably many who read the tour also suffer from this malady. You should empathize with them.

@Shog9 Thanks, we'll take a look. In fact, I think that may help solve some performance issues.
@Shog9 I posted that as context. That doesn't mean that everything I say is specific to that case. Can't you fathom an answerer doing the same thing?

@Shog9 I assume "relevance" is solely based on the Q's title + tags (I can't find any related meta posts)?
