23:00
Chat is awfully quiet today, isn't it? Is it some sort of holiday in the US?
Not that I know of!
New Year's Eve Eve.
I think a lot of people are off this week
Everybody here went home an hour or more ago.
I am trying to get work done, today has been less-than-productive for me, and I am behind schedule (again)
23:01
Right. Seems unusual.... @TheUnhandled same here, same here! I didn't get much done, and it is high time to call it a day. Well, tomorrow is a new day....
This is true. Sadly for me I'll be working a bit more tonight, at least a few more hours (6:02 PM here atm)
Heh, it's a tad later here already!
@TheUnhandled Are you based in Raleigh, NC?
Boy, you guys have a lot of airports
@Pekka I sure am, right outside the Research Triangle Park
@Pekka I am far too close to one for my liking
@TheUnhandledException Is this the Research Triangle I hear people referring to sometimes?
@TheUnhandledException Argh, I see, I know what you mean
it is
Research Triangle Park (RTP) is the largest research park in the United States. It is located near Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill, in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. A small part of the Park stretches into Wake County, but the majority of the land is in Durham County. Overview It is one of the most prominent high-tech research and development centers in the United States and is comparable to the more widely recognized Silicon Valley. It was created in 1959 by state and local governments, nearby universities, and local business interests. Karl Robbins bought the land w...
23:06
@TheUnhandledException I see, nice!
Cisco, IBM, Red Hat, Sony Erickson, Biogen/Idec, Bayer CropScience, just to name a few
it's a great location
I see, I see. Sounds pretty big.
except that the planes line up directly with my house when landing =P but I'll be moving soooooon...
I live in a technology hotbed with the following large tech companies:
@TheUnhandledException yeah! Nearby planes can be awful.
23:08
@Pekka it's fairly big, and they keep it (somewhat) forested, which is really nice. It's good to go for walks through there, when we don't have snow...
And almost as many tech startups, too!
Yes, lots of us here :-)
@TheUnhandledException yeah, and there are some nice green areas around it as well.
Especially towards the west
Yeah. To the east (in the Cary area) they're cutting down trees so fast for new developments, it's crazy
Do you have snow in Winter in this latitude? (I have zero idea of the US's metereological conditions except that it snows a lot in the north (cf. "Fargo"), and doesn't in the south)
23:14
Normally, not very much. This winter has been an exception! We've had snow 4 times, this last time my area got over 6 inches!
I'm originally from the Boston, MA area, so I am used to it
@TheUnhandledException Right! Funny, same as here. This was the snowiest Winter in more than a hundred years, and the first white Christmas in 30 years
but here in North Carolina we normally only get maybe one snow a year, and it normally lasts only a few hours. There's still 1" of snow on the ground today from when iot last snowed, 12/25
@Pekka Fargo is in the north center. Seattle is also in the north, but is on the Pacific coast and has a much warmer climate (rain mostly).
@MichaelMyers Ah, interesting!
@TheUnhandledException yeah, that is about what we have normally
23:16
A lot of folks down here are all up in arms about how this disproves Global Warming. I am not in agreement, the climate is clearly out of whack
I always thought Germany was cold and snowy, based on the extensive research I did (watching The Battle of the Bulge).
Last year we had severe droughts, it was awful
@MichaelMyers Yeah, same here :-)
@MichaelMyers Heh! It is fairly cold, but apparently has become decreasingly snowy.
Then again @Pekka I think I have as much knowledge of your meteorological systems as you do of mine, lol
Never been to Germany, but it's one of many places I really want to visit
Never been to Europe at all yet, actually. Not by choice though :-)
I know that Köln is near Belgium. I do not know anything further about it.
23:19
@TheUnhandledException yeah! I'd say it is definitely worth a visit. Together with France and its other neighbours.
(In fact, I don't even know if I spelled it right.)
@MichaelMyers It's spelled absolutely right :) Yeah, it is close to both Belgium and The Netherlands, and used to be Germany's most important city during the middle ages. It's always been a place for people to visit and travel through, which probably is why I like it so much here
If you travel through central Europe by train, you'll end up here at least once; there's also the River
I am very familiar with Europe, but only as it appears on a map. Otherwise, if it's not in a Rick Steves travel show, I'm going to be pretty clueless.
@MichaelMyers it's similar for me with the US :) I definitely want to visit the US at some point; maybe if I get the chance (and can afford it) in some really extended form, like hitchhiking from coast to coast, or traveling by coach. Don't know, we'll see... But it would be nice
Last time we were in Colorado, we took the antique scenic train from Durango to Silverton. And there was a family from Holland sitting next to us.
23:26
@MichaelMyers ...chatting away in their throaty language :)
(Ducks in case dutchpeople are in the room)
They had flown into L.A. and were working their way east, but were about to head back home.
@MichaelMyers That's a nice trip!
Holland is a very nice country as well, definitely worth visiting when traveling through Europe
The main attraction probably being Amsterdam, of course
Rick Steves says so too. ;)
Well, it's getting late and the internet is getting fidgety. Time for me to head out.
@MichaelMyers yeah, take care! I have to go, too.
Catch you guys later @MichaelMyers and @Pekka!
23:29
Yeah! I'm holding my thumbs you get something done. I'm off for today, starting again tomorrow :)
Later!
haha. Thanks @Pekka. Take care!
23:41
I think this is the most quiet it's ever been in here!
runs around and yells at the top of her lungs
Thanks. Much better! :-D
Finish your shredding yet @Rebecca? ;-)
Awesome.
It will probably be a lot of chores for me this weekend :-(
I'm in Georgia, my bad :P
Indeed. And immediately got on a two and a half hour conference call when I got here. \o/
@TimStone What are you doing down there?
@TheUnhandledException Let us know what you really think about the state. q:
Visiting my dad for the holidays.
You're 2 states too far south :-)
Oh
@TimStone Then nevermind
@RebeccaChernoff I think thay have some of the best peaches!
23:48
Hahah, I'll be flying back over you on Sunday ;)
Aside from that, I have never been there
@TimStone I'll be sure to wave
I actually can see my house sometimes when I fly in/out of here
Hopefully on uninterrupted wifi this time.. The plane connection cut out half way, heh.
I'm starting to see all these advantages to moving. Not being able to hear every freaking plane going in/out of RDU is a great one ;-)
@TimStone I've never had the luxury of any wifi when flying
Yeah, I imagine so, hah
This was a first, flew on Delta, offered free over the holidays by Google Chrome
oh yeah, I head about that
23:53
RDP was a bit slow, but...hahah. And now food time.
@TimStone AHAHAHA
Enjoy your foods @Tim

Q: Add the ability to run code within the context of the forum

P.Brian.MackeyProblemThe code we look at and work with on SO is so "dead". Answerer's can scan it over with their eye's, but it's not natural. Answerer's can copy it into an IDE to bring it to life, but this is not effecient. Suggestion OP's should be allowed to updload a method that can be executed within...

I have Chinese food being delivered. \o/ ...sometime soon I hope. |:
No, no potential for abuse there, nah, never!
@RebeccaChernoff Yum! Whatcha getting?
P.F. Chang's takeout? ;-)
