err, gold badger answered the question, got downvoted, and dupe-hammered it :O
Three camps on SO - those who despise answers on low quality/dupe questions; those who will upvote anything and everything; those who don't care.

That's the third user I've seen quoting some lab, and a requirement to make low quality posts on SO.
I'd be very happy to be face to face with that "teacher" and talk a bit about responsibility.
@J.Steen Or the teacher did his work and the kids just don't listen ;)
@PatrickHofman Pretty sure "lurk for a month, read the tour pages and help pages, look at the meta" isn't part of the course material.
@J.Steen Well, often when companies outsource their dev 'support' to SO they don't. And they could be considered 'professionals'.
@PatrickHofman Only by themselves.

Mark ElliotEven though a question may be closed by receiving 5 close votes, the votes do not necessarily need to agree. I think this is a good behavior, but recently I voted to close a question for being an exact duplicate (which it was) and found the question was closed as "not a real question". This is ...

Tabs vs spaces: the killer question
By people who don’t use editors.
And utterly misunderstood.
Cause I'm pretty sure there's a rather large bunch that answered "tabs" that have options like 'convert tabs to spaces' activated. Who in their right mind hits space four times to indent code. No, you hit tab once and let the editor do your work for you.
edlin doesn't have that feature...
11:16
Who in their right mind
Programs compile faster with tabs
Sure, how much faster?
A gazillion times.
Several milliseconds at least I'd expect
@J.Steen ^T indents to the next shift-width column, ^D undents to the next shift-width column, >> shifts an existing line in to the next shift-width column, >% shifts an existing block in to the next shift-width column. I cannot even enter a tab because that key is bound to a macro prefix.
@PeterJ Notasfastasthosewithoutanywhitespaceatall.
11:20
@tchrist I repeat myself: who in their right mind
@J.Steen I’m sorry, did you say something? My computer does not understand bold.
@J.Steen me. I indent with four spaces even though my Tabs To Spaces mode is enabled.
@Unihedro You're strange. =D
My mind drives out of flow if I hit tab. That's how much I hate it.
It is must easier to type ^T than TAB.
11:21
^
@Unihedro However, ultimately - the answer to the question, for you, is "spaces".

My homerow is my entire keyboard.
11:28

My fingers know the walking when my hands never move.
No. I use my thumbs against the bottom of the spacebar, and a rather muscle-memory-ingrained angle of my fingers.
Everyone's thumbs are grounded on the space bar.
But you cannot strike something you cannot reach.
And if you have to move your hand to reach it, it isn't worth having.

You all have yet to discover xkcdBot's best feature: trigger phrases.
@Inf Also, FYI – if you get annoyed with the oneboxes, xkcdBot has a publicly-accessible delete command.
I'll turn off the the auto-trigger, though.
13:33
There is no sentience about the triggers.
Howsoever many times they occur, it one boxes. That’s subclever.

@AstroCB I don't get annoyed. Moderation is not based on my personal preferences. In this case, I was pinged that your bot was spamming. I have given you the reason of the kick, if you disagree, you are free to discuss it.

I wonder if a kicked room owner can still issue a kick? (via console, direct POST request probably)
If SmokeDetector gets kicked, can it flag the Tavern as spam?
@ShadowWizard no, you get a temporary demotion; you're not allowed to change access rights / unstar stuff while you're kicked
And if a room owner gets kicked can they observe from outside the box if the kick has worked?
You're still listed as an RO though.
13:54
@rene it's @ProgramFOX fault

A: New profile pages are out - bugs and feedback master list

ProgramFOXstatus-completed "Member for today" When a member signed up today, their profile says "Member for today". This should be "Member since today".

@PeterJ No, joining the room results in redirecting to the kick message. You can however use a fresh browser instance that doesn't come with cookies to view as guest.
I do still think that xkcdBot was providing a valuable service – oneboxes are far less spammy than a train of 5 "Morning!"s
@ShadowWizard lets kick him once he arrives here.
@rene I prefer "kick bomb", triggered automatically when he arrives. @Inf is this possible? ;)
@AstroCB bots can be easily abused, that's the problem. It's like giving a toy to a kid and expect him to behave. ;)
The regulars of a room decide what they want to chat about. If 5 users want a train, it's ok.
13:57
@AstroCB It's less spammy than reposting reddit to the tavern too

Tavern needs those.
Bot devs should check if the regular users of the room want the bot or not.
@ShadowWizard Still ok :)
@InfiniteRecursion feeling bit uneasy with "regular users". What's the definition? How are they selected? Someone who was super active for years, then disappear for long time and coming back - does he/she still count as "room regular"?
