So many answerers in write-only mode.
@FamousBlueRaincoat I don't know what that means in this context. My question arises because any time I've reviewed items in the reopen vote queue, comments are invisible.

@FamousBlueRaincoat been thinkin about added feature-request to show ticker of reviews while your in queue for the day, already shows for all time, but for the day would be more usefull
user259867
@Mr.Bultitude I can't find anything on Meta except this: Upvote comments in 'Reopen votes' queue which suggests the comments are visible. I'll try to test this next time there is something in reopen queue.

Q: On an example of an eventually oscillating function

TwiFor $x\in(0,1)$, put $$f(x):=\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}(-1)^{n}x^{2^{n}}.$$ This function possesses interesting properties. It grows monotonically from $0$ up to certain point. lol, stupid phylosophers
"probabilities must add up to 1"? Hell no.
If you have no information about a coin flip other than that it was fair, why would you think it has anything other than 50% probability to come up heads?
user259867
@bjb568 They better add up to 1, or else.
user259867
If we are talking about mutually exclusive events that exhaust all possibilities.
But they aren't.
how aren't they
user259867
I haven't finished watching yet, but they talk about conditional probabilities now, which are different animals.
04:19
If it's flipped tails, you'll live thru both monday and tuesday.
You'll live thru thru the whole experiment regardless.
user259867
Eh. Stopped watching 2/3 into the video. If you want me to follow your math, write it up.
The probability that the coin is flipped heads and it's monday plus tails and it's monday is 1. The probability that the coin is flipped heads and it's monday plus tails and it's monday plus tails and it's tuesday is not 1.
If it's tails, you'll have the event that it's tails on monday AND the event that it's tails on tuesday.
If you had to guess whether it's heads or tails, you'd say 50/50.
If you were in each scenario somehow uniformly randomly, each scenario would have a 1/3 chance that you are in it, but that is irrelevant, since it's not uniform.
Or mutually exclusive.

@Roombatron5000 Your Area 51 name is still Sompuperoo. So much broken over there, I wonder when the site will crumble down to earth. Maybe when the Google OpenId stops working there.
once your commitment hits the public beta phase, shouldn't it remove your commit from area51, or like remove it from the count, since you can only have 3 commits at a time?
user259867
@Roombatron5000 I think you are expected to fulfill your commitment. If you commit and don't fulfill, you won't be able to reuse that commit quickly (I think).
user259867
Once you've fulfilled your commitment on a new site by asking and answering a few questions, you'll be able to commit to another site. If you are very active, you may be able to re-use your commitment as soon as the second day of public beta. If you aren't active on the site, you won't be able to re-use the commitment until the end of the public beta, or until six months after the beta began.

Q: Is it okay to downvote answers to bad questions?

AstroCBI'm referring to this question in particular, where the question was clearly not of the best quality, but my answer to it addressed the issues with it. Is it okay to downvote an answer just because a question is bad, even if the answer addresses the issues with the question?

user259867
It may be okay or not, but I do it all the time.
@AstroCB answers 2&3
If that question had stayed undeleted for maybe another day or two, I would have gotten a Reversal badge.
I disagree with your first two points. It's entirely possible to have a useful answer to a bad question, and answering bad questions is not, in itself, a bad thing. There's even a badge for doing it exceptionally well! Evidently SO encourages the very behavior you claim (in your second point) should be downvoted. — Ted Hopp May 20 '14 at 3:03
Downvote bad answers if they're bad. Don't downvote answers if they're fine outside of the context of the question.
Downvoted != crap q
Which is, of course, guidance, as there is the (somewhat overused) tenet that people can use their votes as they wish.
@bjb568 I'm just saying that justifying your downvote on that user's post with the question is not a good idea, and there's a Meta post with 3000 views that says so.
