@Stijn I learned C++ as my first language, and switched to C# when I wanted to make GUIs.
@Stijn you still have faith in humanity?
He's only 24, give em a break
@Stijn: what is surprising is a 124K user thinks it is a genuine question.
@FinalContest: It's clear that you're just going through the list of close reasons trying desperately to find one to use, because you're mad or something, I guess. I spoke with the OP in chat and am satisfied that this is a genuine question, if a basic one. — Lightness Races in Orbit 3 mins ago

You know what's common in pretty much all horror movies? Stupid people ... if there are only smart people in those same movies, then they would be thrillers instead ...
15:09
@Stijn hanging around on SO, I get the idea that the primary users of C++ are the equivalent of babies left alone with a razor blade
not sure why I am mad thinking that the question is close-worthy.
@Braiam I'm starting to wake up... :)
I used to answer those until Robert (mod) closed it with typo
then I kind of agreed with him, or minimal understanding. There is shitload of these around
and people keep answering them
well, C++ is an obsolete language IMHO, at least I want it to look so :-)
15:15
Bwhahahaha. I just managed to reply to a question about a "bug" with Applejack most famous quote.
"What did you learn?"
"I didn't learn anything. I was right all time along".

Q: How do I display second form in Qt?

Ty221I use Qt Creator. I have main form called, which has got files abc.h, abc.cpp and abc.ui and the second form, which has got files abc2.h, abc2.cpp and abc2.ui. They all are included in .PRO file. I want to open the second form from the first form, but I completly do not know how to do it. I tried...

I do not get the closure....
I saw 4 close votes
but there are 4 people who closed it now ...
@FinalContest Just kidding. Not an actual suggestion. :)
who could I see 4 close votes then before the closure? Someone retracted it?
15:30
@FinalContest Possibly related to this, maybe? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/230018/…
@FinalContest seems like the most likely option ...
BROWN is the most likely option.
Ah, because BROWN. Should have thought of that.
Indeed you should have.
I'm so not worthy of BROWN. I'm like .... beige. But I try.
15:32
@FinalContest yes, I retracted my close vote, and then flagged some of both your comments... It was fun!
@Bart Give yourself some credit. I'd say you're a maroon, to say the least.

I'm not a moron .... ah ...
have a good weekend all, bye!
@Stijn see you!
15:37
@VotetoClose: meh, why are you flagging a critic with the answer?
I never understand what those flags are trying to achieve ...
and then people complain when they see my downvote on a post without an explanation...
I only flagged 3 comments, the mod chose to delete them all, I flagged 3 of them that were not constructive
they were constructive.
I will write the critic back, eventually.
no, talking about close reasons on SO is not constructive, that is for meta
3
I would like to see the readers reading them in order to consider that this is not the right way of answering; despite my downvote, currently it looks like a great answer with potentially with further upvotes.
no, he asked for close reasons, and I mentioned for that specific case.
I see no problem with that, so I do not think you flag others' conversation in that sense.
I do not think any of us (Light and Me) saw any problems with that.
what you achieved now that I have to rewrite my critic.
I am not sure why critics on answers are removed, but just for the record: my downvote goes with the explanation of "do not answer IMHO close-worthy" questions. — Final Contest 31 secs ago
@FinalContest "conversation" is the key word here. SO is not for conversations
@Andy: you are missing the point. I do not think you have even seen the comments, so I am not sure you can say anything about it.
@FinalContest You make a lot of incorrect assumptions
@Andy: what was the text?
Oh for goodness's sake who flagged all the comments sigh Your downvote is preposterous, @FinalContest. Some moron removed the comments in which we were figuring this out, but the point is that this is not a close-worthy question and I explained why. Perhaps you're jealous or something. — Lightness Races in Orbit 2 mins ago
Yeah, it is clear we disagree, but I do not understand the comment removal. Coming to a disagreement can be a good outcome, too. — Final Contest 18 secs ago
@VotetoClose: please do not flag that if I may ask.
@FinalContest: I agree. Sometimes mods get over-zealous, or people who don't understand the discussion or its usefulness flag the comments and the system auto-removes them if there are sufficient flags. — Lightness Races in Orbit 1 min ago
@VotetoClose: ^
It's a conversation. It's adding noise to the question. You are asking about close votes. Take it to a private chat room or meta. If I weren't out of comment votes for the day, I'd flag both. How does either of that help the person who asked the question or the people that will visit the question a month from now?
if we both find it constructive, I do not understand why a third person did not...
@Andy: that question will not survive one month in the first place.
also, it is not two comments, but whatever.
I just do not get people removing opinions coming to disagreements in comments. It is pretty destructive behavior.
15:49
@FinalContest Oh, so then it's ok to have a conversation. Got it. "This question is bad, so I'll just break network standards here."
@Andy: what you are essentially saying do not explain your downvote; sorry I am not one of those crappy people
I literally explain every single downvote or upvote a corresponding comment.
@FinalContest Just start a Meta Post about it.. then you and Light can both chime in there, as well as other people, and the votes will speak for themselves... You both had good points, and it seemed like you both were firm in your opinion.
meta? The place where you can downvote for free without understanding stuff? Thanks, but no thanks.
Meta is the worst place to discuss StackOverflow issues to start with.
@FinalContest That's great. How does "Yeah, it is clear we disagree, but I do not understand the comment removal. Coming to a disagreement can be a good outcome, too." explain your downvote?
Flag this opinion, too ;)
15:52
@FinalContest Uhm.... where else would you discuss it?
@Andy: it is noting the disagreement ... which is a useful outcome.
unlike unexplained downvotes, it is clear here why the downvote is and why the OP will not change the post, and that is fine.
@hichris123: here, SO or nowhere, pretty much.
amazing, everything is removed again
SIGH
even the downvote reason, I am heading off....
@FinalContest Look though, you got an answer about why they were removed, which is exactly what we've said here.

@Andy: well, my unexplained downvotes may not have been unexplained, but some "over-zealous" mod removed it as Light put it.
now, unexplained downvotes start making more sense ...
user202362
I never understand people's obsession with a few reps ...
@Andy: no, the moderator explicitly did not say what you said at all

he went further, he thought everything was irrelevant, where the people said only the last two here.
anyway, calling other insane is improper for different opinions, so be my guest on my ignore list for now at least.
I do not think I have called you like that, etc.
in fact, this incident shows that people may not leave downvote reasons for this activity.... because mods will go around and remove critics anyways, so why bother with downvote reasons? That is yet another factor how the site supports unexplained downvotes.
@FinalContest I don't think you clicked the link, did you? It's a quote, attributed to Ben Franklin, Albert Einstein, Rita Mae Brown and an old Chinese proverb. Alas, I'll enjoy my time on your ignore list.
@chmod711telkitty: no one was talking about reps except you.
@SPArchaeologist: as you can see, mods tend to remove valid downvote reasons, too, so I am leaning towards getting in the queue of not even bothering with the explanation. It is a time waste to write a comment down that may or may not help the OP and readers and the result is removal.

My SO account (1295344) has just been serial up voted. While I understand these votes will be revered, I am I right in thinking that user won't get any form of warning for doing it?
@FinalContest that's the spirit! just downvote and don't explain the reason. You are learning, old friend ;)
16:43
@chmod711telkitty Nope
@Scott If it's the system that handles it, they won't.
@Bart Ah okay thanks, I thought that was the case
@Braiam: will I get another downvote chance on the same answer if I do not explain it, please?
@Scott: if it is only 3, they will likely not.
@Scott: if it is over a more unreasonable threshold, that person likely will.
@FinalContest [citation needed]?
@Scott: in fact, Bart is the master about crazy uncaught serial upvotes. He got lots last time without the system catching it :D
There is a special condition in the code @FinalContest. It checks for my userid and then just thinks "It isn't fair, but the guy is awesome".
16:55
nah, the algorithm just sucks :D
@FinalContest Yeah it was 4 answers and 3 questions all very quickly, so I know it will be reversed, which obviously I am fine with. It was more about warning the user. :)
well, they managed to achieve unpredictable algo.
I appreciate that you mere mortals might be of that opinion @FinalContest.
@Scott: do not be so sure ...
@FinalContest That algorithm would have to be pretty poor then :/
16:56
@Scott They won't be warned unless a moderator deals with it. The automated system doesn't warn anyone.
^as I said
@Scott, well, it is pretty poor in my experience.
The problem with that is that none of us have the actual evidence to establish that.
the limit is three, sometimes, and that is probably about it.
Thanks guys - I'll wait until tomorrow to see how it goes. Cheers

Cody GrayI just noticed that I lost a bunch of points from my reputation score on Stack Overflow, and I used the "reputation" tab on my user profile page to try and track down the cause. During my investigation, I noticed there was an unusual event of type "reversal". In the normal place of a question ti...

"Every night around 03:00 UTC," -> Wrong.
that is just plain wrong ;)
Sure it can be manual at times @FinalContest. Serial upvotes I have received previously have been reversed by balpha for example. But the automated system is at 3am UTC
@FinalContest That's... not wrong at all.
The script runs at 3:00 UTC.
@Bart: except when not as the practice shows.
17:02
That's your assumption @FinalContest. You don't have enough data to be certain it counts as serial upvoting.
@Bart: you do not get it
it is serial upvoting since it is reversed, but sometimes it was two days later
That usually doesn't happen unless you get another upvote or something like that.
Then that's more than likely not the automated system, but triggered by another event. Or some glitch happened causing the task not to finalize previously.
Hiccups happen
or the algorithm works like that, or it has a bug, etc.
the only thing I can say is that it is completely unpredictable :D
anyway, it is an obscurity for security algorithm

@Cupcake: what is wrong about that title?
@Cupcake Nah. At most it's an empathy issue.

user163250
@FinalContest there is nothing "wrong" with the title, I just find it funny because it's the kind of thing that YCS would typically say.
@Cupcake: well, he is harsh, but right.
19:14
The only problem is that he lacks any goal-orientation. Unless "venting" is his goal.
3
@Bart: you say the same for me.
Not at all @FinalContest. I actually find YCS to have good ideas every now and then. :p
I am with gnat here. It is a pity that experts are punished for being "Not OK" towards the people YCS mentions in his post. I have got two comments on such poor posts removed today by claiming "off-topic" whereas I just explained the downvote reason. Even the OP did not think it off-topic in the case where I got a reply. It is unreasonable how these things go IMHO, and would require a major surgery. — Final Contest 2 mins ago
@Cupcake: thanks for bringing attention to this post.
@Bart It's just usually he doesn't address it in a constructive way. (YCS)
@hichris123: nonsense
19:23
That's what I meant with being "goal oriented" @hichris123 . Either you set out to discuss an issue with the hopes to resolve it, or you vent. The former requires a slight adjustment, the latter ... well, is on display I guess.
I told it in a constructive way why I downvoted the OP and it was removed. I do not think it matters in any way whether things are constructive or not. I think what matters if the moderators agree and/or can argue about being non-constructive, but in the end what matters really is if they agree or not.
what is worse, once I vote for a moderator, it does not come back after a period, and that is why I will never vote again.
I cannot really modify my vote anymore.
@FinalContest what?
@Bart I think he means that the mods don't get put up for vote every year or so.
Which I wouldn't want, because if there's a problem, meta's the place. not an election.
meta is not the place.
Meh, too much hassle. And users seem to attribute far more power and responsibility to moderators than they actually have.
19:26
you need to realize what the moderators and site owners want will happen
the whole "community decision" is complete yada-yada
once I give my vote, I cannot modify that anymore.
@Undo Is that for moderating a community or building a community (or both0? Both sound interesting, but the questions seem to cover both aspects.
that is such a non-democratic process to which I will not participate anymore.
@FinalContest Yes, it actually is. Sure, you may get a smaller percentage of the users - but it's the users who want to change something.
@Andy I think it's mostly for moderating existing communities, but that's really tied in tight to building communities. So both are probably on-topic.
@FinalContest you don't think the actual problem is that you're confusing what you want to happen with what the community wants to happen? And thereby mods/employees/meta are wrong/evil/whatever ...
19:29
@Bart: I do not. There are many meta threads where moderators were voted down to the hell.
yet, nothing has changed because the site owners did not give green lights, nor will they, anyway, and the thing is as always, in deep mess.
the community has wanted changes to the close system for some time now, and the employees seemed to of fought it for a long time, but they finally have been making changes and looks like they plan to make more.
number of clear case threads with highly upvoted proposals not going anywhere... even they admitted it is not democratic anyway, so there is no room for debating that.
The site changes continuously @FinalContest. Not broad sweeping changes, but gradual, well thought out change. And like it or not, but the community gets it wrong all the time. Doesn't mean the employees get it right, nor do moderators, but getting the site to work as well as it does is quite the effort. And change isn't nearly as easy as many make it seem to be.
Anyway, I will not vote for moderators anymore because it is binding and I cannot change my mind later when I see their activities.
they have other considerations though, like actual MONEY costs, business reasons, etc... also, democracy is not really a good form of government.. democracy means that 51% of the people can make the other 49% their servants
19:32
Not voting is a valid action @FinalContest. If you're not sure, don't vote.
@Undo Cool.
it is like saying politicians will change because of the demonstration... no, they will not, they will laugh at you. They will get into deep mess when they would need to get themselves re-elected.
@FinalContest Moderators are not evil. People don't change when they become a moderator. Look at what they've done in the past.
Except for @Undo @hichris123 ... he changed man. He changed.
