7:00 PM
My mind is apparently switched on the "off" position, @AnnaLear. Thank you!

Any time :)

7:11 PM
hi there
can someone explain why this was rejected? the edit itself should go for me than for @superscript no?

@MichelAyres your edit wasn't recorded because it was rejected by Superscript

It looks like the user chose to improve that question (instead of approving/rejecting). There's a checkbox when improving the question, marking if the suggested edit was helpful or not.

Looks like Superscript clicked "improve" and then unchecked the "suggested edit was helpful" box

@JanDvorak when I edit an "edit" it goes for both the first editor then me (both appears on the log)

@MichelAyres only if accepted

7:15 PM
So basically Superscript took the edit for himself.
and I got a reject

Yup, seems like it.

Hi @3ventic ! didn't knew you were around here too :) Good to see a familiar face(nick) xD

I'm all over the place, hi

Well ... At least the nomenclature got fixed =/ it's a pain not having 2k+ rep :/
AND I even got a too minor vote for that! I mean, there were a link and a real fix!

Suggested edits on SO are very inconsistent..

7:18 PM
@3ventic noticed that T_T
I got like 5 edit rejected, then I saw the SAME edits after a couple of hours ... '-'

and I've noticed some people use the "invalid edit" reason against suggested edits that are long and take a lot of time to review..

this time I just came by to see if something is different on SO
@3ventic Saw that once with one of mine
or was one that I was looking at ...

Something to keep in mind: Sometimes, link edits are hidden from view. There's a "View the before and after post", then there's a "View the before and after post in Markdown format"

BTW ... BEST REP EVER! (789)

That Markdown format is often the only way to see a link edit

7:21 PM
@ChrisForrence That's why I always use markdown view to review edits and only check the "normal" view when the formatting is edited

1 day to 1 month flag! \o/

@3ventic - Yeah. I need to offer a bounty on one of my questions, to review edits as a top-bottom view (instead of just side-to-side)

Should be a badge for this =/

@MichelAyres - Some flags just don't get handled; I mean, I've got a few hanging around since August
But considering how many flags get raised a day...it's like the close-vote queue

@ChrisForrence I got ban last week ... too many unhanded ones (19)
@ChrisForrence THAT scary me!

7:25 PM
@ChrisForrence there aren't any unhandled mod flags in the system that are that old. "recommend closure" flags, perhaps. but those are the ones that do land in the close queue

Speaking of the close vote queue. We have knocked ~7k questions out of that thing since Monday (when the vote/flag threshold was raised to 3). That's pretty snazzy.

@ChrisForrence I never saw that ... was 7.5k then, after 5~10min was 7K then it came to 7.3k now it's 7.2K

@AnnaLear - Yeah, they're all recommended closure flags, my unhandled ones. And I'm not too worried about them right now; because they wouldn't show up in the Close Vote queue yet (one that I found had no close votes on it, so the only hold it'd have on the CV queue is a flag)
@MichelAyres - Oh it was a thing of beauty. Or monstrosity. Semantics. There used to be 120,000 entries in that queue

@ChrisForrence I imagine ... this weekend (if I'm not wrong) it reached 4k ... now it's 7k. the first time that I looked at that, was over 20K.
user with over 20k should be able to do 100 of those close one, to help clean up

There should be a "detox" button for us to see how many questions are in the queue without the dopamine.

7:32 PM
Many many many MANY of the entries are being hidden from view (as @jadarnel27 mentioned, only entries with at least three close votes are being displayed)
But it breaks down the problem; it's very much a psychological thing.
And it's working

@ChrisForrence Holy cow!
@ChrisForrence didn't get this one ... could you explain for me?

Which seems more discouraging to try and fix: 7,000 or 120,000?

@ChrisForrence Ok. Got the idea here :X

When you show a low number, that makes it more encouraging to "do your part", because you will have a more measurable impact

122
Q: Fuzzy the number of questions in the close review queue, a dopamine for the shutterers

randomUsers are freaking out over the number of questions with close votes. More so when they look at the review queue and have to grab a newspaper to fan themselves as they do declare that the high number is giving them palpitations. Currently that number represents all questions waiting for a pillo...

random is such an angry bird.

7:38 PM
Interesting... usually I like the chats on SE. Except for SO chat... that "thing" is weird ...
I tough that on the meta would be even worse ... but it's quite pleasant :)

@MichelAyres don't tell anyone. we have an image to maintain here. ;)

@AnnaLear no problem ;)
@AnnaLear btw, was you who wrote "letters" for the winners on ARQADE StarCraft awards? I got a hand made card, really awesome =)

Wasn't me, no. Probably Aarthi, who is unfortunately no longer working here.

Ahh, sorry to hear. hope he's in a better place ... (ok, horrible pun ...)

She's doing alright, last I heard. :)

Why was this deleted?
Workarounds are valid answers, no?

@JeroenVannevel not sure what @0x7fffffff was thinking, but I might have edited that answer into the question as an update

Mat
@BenCollins: that's exactly what 0x7fffffff did.

Oh, looks like he actually did that

@Mat heh. should scroll up next time ;-)

I don't know, I feel like it belongs in the answer section

8:18 PM
@JeroenVannevel it's not an answer. it doesn't address the original problem.

@BenCollins But workarounds from another user are valid answers, why wouldn't this be one?

@JeroenVannevel "workarounds from other users" aren't always valid answers. In this case, the user answered his own question with something that didn't address the question, so it's really just adding context to the question itself. I think 0x7fffffff was right.

Well, how do you define 'original problem'? Should the question be seen as 'providing a fix for a fault in a certain approach to the problem at hand' or 'providing a solution to the problem at hand, ideally following the existing approach path'?
if it's the former then you're correct: it followed a different approach. But if it's the latter then this would be acceptable
I prefer answers that follow the given approach but sometimes you just don't find anything and you provide a workaround (like what happened here)

Mat
@Jeroen: OP is still looking for a fix to their original problem. If anything, having no answer listed gives them a bit more chance that someone will attempt to answer it. As for people with the same problem, well, the workaround is still available.
Borderline case, but I don't see a real problem here.

True, I agree that the consequences are minor here. But it does help to know how I'm supposed to flag in the future

Q: How is this user able to review posts so long after they were completed originally?

WernerThis is a revisit of Are certain users favored the opportunity to review posts? that seems to have grown stale without any solid answer. Are any CMs available right now?

@Doorknob what's up?
@Werner nothing new that I know of

@AnnaLear Hey! I just wanted to discuss the Code Golf Stack Exchange site, and about its general status.
@GraceNote Mind pinging me in Code Golf's chatroom? I want to discuss Code Golf, a site in a very similar situation. (Sorry, I really have no other way to get your attention ;)) — Doorknob 2 days ago

@Doorknob Ahh, that'll take an actual CM. Lemme summon GN for you :)

I think we need something like that "How's CR doing right now?" that Code Review got. And I just wanted to know in general where it's at.
ok, thanks :)

9:57 PM
@Werner we all got distracted... but gonna try to get back to figuring that one out soon :)

@AnnaLear M'kay.

@Doorknob I'll see if I can cook something up to show you guys tomorrow.

@GraceNote Thank you very much! :D I feel our situation is in many ways similar, but it would be ideal to have some personalized information and advice.
