Anyone here?
@TimStone Know anything about SE URLs?
I need a way to link to a post if I know just the post ID
Wait, I know everything that the data dump gives me.
@Undo FWIW, you can always just use /q/# - if the post turns out to be an answer, it will get redirected to the answer URL anyways. So where you use /a or /q doesn't really matter all that much.
@animuson So why can't we have a nice /posts/# or something?
I don't know why /posts/# doesn't send you to the post, since that's the base URL path for anything else post-related like the revision history and timeline.
Yeah, it's gonna drive me nuts.
@animuson Plz plz close. Like now: stackoverflow.com/q/4986/2581872.
:P
Question for you: how can I flag that as off-topic -> not under scope of site?
00:49
35
Q: Is an option missing in the new off-topic reasons?

Anders UPI really like the new option structure when flagging - I have in particular missed the "Minimal understanding" option. However, I think that one option is missing. If we look at this rambling question, it has many issues. I ended up flagging it as too broad, but I would think that it is simply, ...

@hichris123 Heh, we had a guy asking for the best dentist in his town on SO once and it took us a while to figure out what to do with it :P
@Undo if you have the data dump, you know the post type, right? so you know whether to use q or a in your url.
@Undo Wow. That's... not off-topic at all.
@RebeccaChernoff Yes, but there has to be a quick /posts/# url. Or there should be.
@hichris123 I think we whacked it for minimal understanding or something :P
No one ever made me that query for finding posts inappropriately using <kbd>. :(
00:51
@animuson As in all of them? :P
@animuson If I ever get MySQL up I may.
I was trying to write a Data query to find posts that had a <kbd> inside a link to jsFiddle, as a start, but I never got it working.
You can't.
Body is rendered text, right?
@hichris123 Yes.
Rendered HTML, so Tim says.
00:53
Reinstalling MySQL... sigh
So I used <a href="http://jsfiddle.net/%"%><kbd>%</kbd></a> - but that returned 0 results.
@animuson What's the full query?
I think I might know what you did wrong
I don't know. I asn't logged in so it's not saved on my account. xP
@animuson Anyway, if you were doing a Body like '..., you need to put percents on either side of the text too. Like this:
where Body like '%<a href="http://jsfiddle.net/%"%><kbd>%</kbd></a>%'
Wooo results!
01:00
@animuson So whatcha going to do with it?
Make a lot of edits. ;P
@animuson Linky?
@animuson You're going to have to post your stats after this. :D
The only problem is it selects too many to load all of them in one query, and since Data.SE doesn't update immediately, I need some way to keep selecting new results once I've completed all the ones in that query. Any ideas?
@animuson download the CSV and make a webapp to process them :D
01:09
@Undo Extend charcoal to editing. :P
@hichris123 I've thought about it.
@animuson Would you trust me with OAuth credentials? I could do some amazing things with inline editing inside Charcoal...
Grrr. We must educate them!
I wasn't quick enough to show them your post.
hehe
@animuson Want any help?
@animuson I could make you a nice queue with inline editing and everything...
You can help if you can figure out a better way to write the query so i get more than 100.
@animuson Remove TOP 100?
:P
It'll time out if you don't have some sort of limit.
01:15
@animuson SELECT TOP 200 ?
Changing the number only helps until you reach a point where the number is too large for the query to handle.
There has to be a way to page it or something
@animuson I'll run it locally once I get MYSQL!! up.
@animuson The SE API?
@DoorknobofSnow Can't search answers with it.
01:20
@Undo Oh, can't you search all posts though?
@DoorknobofSnow Yes, but you can't look for HTML elements
@Undo yes you can
you can use a filter
I'll throw together a quick request, hang on...
You know.... I bet you could find a bunch of plagiarism if you looked for wikipedia-style references (i.e. [3]) that aren't in blockquotes.
@DoorknobofSnow That's just the most recent answers.
We want to search for HTML elements.
01:24
@Undo yes, just throw together a quick script to parse the JSON and filter for only <a><kbd>, and paginate with the page parameter, and you're good
because I don't think the data explorer can do this
@DoorknobofSnow Yes it can.
how?
(pagination, I mean)
There has to be a page thingy in SQL
well then I have no idea :P
if you can find a page thingy in SQL then use that, but I don't think there is one
also, on a completely unrelated note, I really need to download a tab manager
@animuson Can you do me a favor?
01:28
Depends
@animuson I wanna see how NAA flags show up in the mod queue.
So that I can copy it in Charcoal
@Undo Isn't it the same as 10k?
But, whenever they finally integrate the flags queue into review, it will look like review?
@animuson I wanna see how they look in the list :P
Not very pleasant...
01:29
I don't care :P
I bet it's better than you make it out to be :P
There's a NAA flag on Meta, go look.
@Undo You missed Animuson's giant flag handling marathon. :P
@animuson But I don't have all the shiny buttons and whatnot :P
It looks exactly the same for a moderator, except that it also shows who cast the flags.
@animuson Oh, ok.
Wait, I think minitech posted a screenshot of it somewhere.
Aha!
01:32
I'm not sure of exact criteria are to make the convert-to-comment and convert-to-edit buttons appear. They don't always appear
> Convert to edit
Huh? :P
@hichris123 Mods can convert OP-posted answers to an edit on the question
@Undo Ooh, nice. :)
If the answer is posted by the author of the question, and some other weird criteria I'm not aware of, the button automatically edits in the content of the answer to the question and deletes the answer.
I still don't know why I know all this.
01:34
@animuson I'd love to look at the code of that. How the heck can a button do that? :P
@hichris123 Just appends "Edit: <answer text>"
Nothing fancy :P
It doesn't add an "Edit". Just adds a horizontal rule followed by the content.
oh
And if I recall correctly, it doesn't give us a grace period.
So many weird criteria with being a mod.
01:38
Are any of you guys SQL wizzes?
whizzes?
Not me.
Wow, google says it's actually 'Whizz Kid'
go figure.
Made it through my first 100 edits. :P
@animuson Wow.
Can you specify a start in Data.SE?
01:47
@animuson Not sure
Ask @TimStone
If you can, maybe you could specify a Page parameter and multiply it by 100 to determine the start? shrugs I'm blowing smoke right now.
I could reasonably throw together a little Ruby script using the SE API that can scrape answers and look for regexps in the text, @animuson, because I doubt SQL can do that kind of pagey stuff. Should I? (/cc @Undo)
actually, hang on, I have to finish this mini-essay thing for school due in a few days. after I do, I think I'll write a small script anyway, because I'll be bored :P
@animuson Yes, you can.
@jmac how? (If that's true then apparently I don't have to :P)
Wait, start what? I assumed start date.
01:53
no, like paginate this:
SELECT TOP 100
    Posts.Id as [Post Link]
FROM Posts
WHERE
  Body LIKE '%<a href="http://jsfiddle.net/%"%><kbd>%</kbd></a>%'
oh, then never mind. :P
Ah, you want to paginate?
Something similar to MySQL's LIMIT offset, maximum
02:21
I just found this question:

Q: How to Open Existing Java Project Given Entire Source Files

user1152440I'm having some trouble opening an existing blackberry eclipse project I have to work on. The project has been left for me in a folder which includes subfolders such as bin, deliverables, src and res. How do I go about opening this? I've tried "import existing projects into workspace" and selecti...

Eeek
It has 1530+ views, but no votes
At all
Huh
02:36
@RyanCarlson Like almost no votes on the answers, too. Weird.
@hichris123 And one of the two votes on the entire page was mine.
A queue thing!
@Undo Woah. That's... I am speechless. :O
@DoorknobofSnow Good speechless or bad speechless?
@DoorknobofSnow Why? You've seen charcoal... :P
02:40
@Undo Neither, the kind that goes so far off the "good" end that it overflows and gives an error :P
@hichris123 yes, but it looks so much like just a normal SO queue! :D
I would log in to Charcoal and check it out, but I have to finish my essay thingy. I'll see it as soon as possible :P
@DoorknobofSnow It's not linked to anywhere yet, so...
It's /posts.php
@DoorknobofSnow You still have to write essays at age 94?
^ joke ^
@RyanCarlson ?
@Undo There's no page on main. Right?
I don't get it. :P
Look out CV queue, I've got an auto close flagger now. :P
@RyanCarlson ah yes, keep forgetting about that :P I think I can change it now that I'm 13 actually, but meh
02:59
> Flagging question #1 of 10
@animuson Fantastic work on the flag queue, by the way. I was entertained reading back through the transcript to see your progress.
(I am easily entertained)
03:15
@animuson What, you want paging?
@TimStone Yes. So I can get more results without timing out.
Since we're on SQL Server 2012 you can use the shorthand, since paging in SQL Server was previously a bit annoying...
SELECT <somestuff> ORDER BY <something> OFFSET <start> FETCH NEXT <n> ROWS ONLY
(I forget if ROWS ONLY is optional or not)
Otherwise you'd have to use a windowing function, which works fine but is much less elegant.
> Invalid usage of the option NEXT in the FETCH statement.
err... where are CMs? human spam wave ongoing askubuntu.com/q/411322/169736
@animuson Err sorry, it's OFFSET <start> ROWS
And then the rest of it
03:25
35 spam answers here. I feel really bad bothering you guys about it, but we don't have enough of a userbase to cope with this (at least, they aren't online..)
@ɥʇǝS flagged as many as possible with my measly 11 flags a day
@DoorknobofSnow Thank you :)
@ɥʇǝS All gone. :P
@hichris123 Thanks.

Thanks everyone. That seems to have stopped them for now. Cya for now tips hat
@ɥʇǝS You should be a mod. :P
Why is that we always say to delete things from orbit? It seems like it would be a lot more efficient to delete from close by.
Wooo I'm headed to Lincoln tonight!
03:43
@jadarnel27 What?
So much spam on AU, it's back.

@hichris123 Flagged!
@hichris123 That's true. I used to hunt down things to flag my the tens in my younger days on the network.

@Undo Add AskUbuntu to Charcoal.
^ I'll get my comment flags soon... on AU
@hichris123 I just flag Other and ask for all comments to be deleted :P
@hichris123 Charcoal?
hmm... I should hang out here more often..
04:33
@ɥʇǝS Yeah, Charcoal is like a comment flagger webapp (expanding into posts now too) .
If you want a login, I can make you one.
@hichris123 Oh that's interesting.
That's how I have so many comment flags. :P
Stack Overflow
2827 total flags handled
25 flags handled today
That's all users all time on Charcoal.
Wow.
Yes, I have my handy stats page up. :)
I've done 539 on SO.
05:20
@pops (or other mods): Could you weigh in on this speculative question:
5
Q: What will happen if a serial-upvote reputation is lately reversed for this scenario?

Code MockerLet's assume at the beginning I have 1 reputation. Another user serially votes my posts up until I get, for example, serial-upvote reputation of 150. Thus my rep becomes 151 in total now. If I spend this reputation for a bounty of 150 before the system reverses the serial-upvote reputation of 15...

mmmmm, apple flavored spam.
I'm going to go mix everything I have in my medicine cabinet together until I form an apple-like substance, then get every child I can find to try it out.
@ɥʇǝS No, the city, in Nebraska. ;P
that guy's expanding

@JanDvorak Helped him along in the spam filters, he'll be quiet for a while ;)
08:33
thanks :-)
I've got half a nerve to call and ask for my free consultation.
"You will see much spam today." ZOMG that guy is for real.

@TimPost We can't complete this: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/217570/… - because lang-{rc|rs|rust} is not in our drop-down list for possible languages. It is in the JS file as a loaded language and works fine.
An open letter to community mods pleading for help moderating the huge amount of traffic generated by network hot questions. Your support in appreciated!

The last star in here was 2 days ago? Shame, shame.

How am I supposed to get my fix on random comedic lines if no one stars anything?
over the weekend only serious and dedicated people come here...
On that lang-rust thingy is lang-rust also assumed if a question is only tagged with a version specific tag? like ?
@animuson say again? ;)
Need help. Not able to post any question/answer on SO/MSO. (no error shown, a blank preview when I type question or answer like this). AND not able to edit my SO/MSO/Stack Exchange profile. (Can't even change profile picture). Gives this error. Could someone tell me what's wrong?
@MysticMagic javascript not loading?
What error?
Unusual error updating profile.
I tried clearing cache and reopening browser, too. It didn't work.
09:27
any error in the console?
sounds like a network issue
which browser/os?
"NetworkError: 403 Forbidden - cdn.sstatic.net/Js/full.en.js?v=9fbd88448c92";
ya. ok :/ thanks
firefox, chrome both. Will try later.. thanks rene and Jan:)
corporate network police strikes again?
something on your end is blocking sstatic.net you need to remove the block
seems so. :(

@MysticMagic hmm... might be even worse

Q: Getting 403 Forbidden when I try to access SO, Meta and SU

CanavarI've had an account with Stack Overflow for about seven months and was able to access my account from work without any difficulty until two weeks ago. At first, Firefox started to load blank pages (without any source) for SO, SU and Meta, so I switched to using IETab to access the sites. A week l...

If this answer is correct is there something broken? You would not expect a <script> tag to break the site.
I haven't hit that queue for a long time...
Too minor is long dead, no doubt.
And so is invalid edit when it comes to wrap random keywords with backticks
If in doubt, make your edit more minor!
It feels like some reviewers pick a focus point. Today I'm going to fix is and are and then simply forget about the rest of the world.
Don't get me started on arbitrary back ticks. When I'm elected supreme ruler, I'm going to tattoo back ticks all over the faces of the worst offenders.
5
11:58
Not a week goes by without a new "require explaining downvotes" or the like
@Duncan Can't wait for your election. I assume you'll share the video's with us?
@rene As soon as I find a convincing cave, I'll start sending them out.
Great!
Yeah random backticks on any word that has anything vaguely to do with technology are by far the worst sort of edit, especially when everything between is usually bold or italics.....
Plus they rarely fix the actual problems with the post. They consider the job done once all the nouns in the post are nouns.
3
12:02
We need to get rid of bad edits that highlight random words...
"Did you write your own wedding vows?" "Yes, we did. Dearest Judith. My love for you knows no bounds. I like Java and I need this to be really optimised..."
@rene It probably won't break it when submitted, but the preview probably runs the script
@3ventic hmmm, shouldn't that be prevented?
Probably.
Maybe we need to accept that if we can't beat them we should just join them. Reclassify them so that they should now only be used to highlight words like itunes, internet, website and computer
12:07
And then someone comes and posts his whole explanation as code, and his code as normal text
@Duncan you can use Stack Exchange basement
oops, meant a cage
Works for me, @ShadowWizard.
13
A: I wonder what a company cage looks like?

Nick CraverNo no no, you obviously misread this. We have a cage downstairs that we stick other companies in. And yes, EA is in there for that whole SimCity debacle.

:D
Hey guys is it just me, or my sock lost its avatar?
Sun must be behind a cloud.

bug report coming soon!

I see the avatar..
Is that not right?
@3ventic weird... let me try with a different browser
I see the exact same thing here.
Weird
Per-user server cache perhaps? Will give it 24 hours before reporting then
I wonder, is this considered a circle, in my answer below?

Q: Badges not represented as so in the privileges

Cyril N.In the "Set Bounties" help center page, the badges are not represented as actual "badges", but rather plain text. Since it's not the case on the other pages, I think it's a forgotten style so I report it here :)

@rene same one from recent days, isn't it? Very persistent!
I dunno, the other spam stuff was already gone...This is the first spam I hit today...
....I wish I was a world famous love guru
We can keep track of that specific spammer by checking this from time to time:

common, babaji on all SE?
he's gettting smarter - he actually posted a(n extremely offtopic) question with his spam
12:58
I wonder if he actually gets attention through those advertisements. Do they really work for him?
@Bart yes, Google Cache has long memory
The benefit is in the volume.
I've seen some clicks on bit.ly links from SE on the sports spam.
