3:26 AM
So much time travel. What is this, the last two seasons of Heroes?

@jadarnel27 context?

@jcolebrand Heh, I was just reading the transcript.

yeah ... I try not to do that

Time travel jokes are being volleyed back and forth. All regarding being in the future, and flagging / closing things before they happen.

as of late there are too many new users too often :p

3:29 AM
That can be a difficult thing to adjust to.

being new?

No. New people "invading" a place that you kind of feel a sense of ownership over.
If that makes sense...
Change is difficult for me (and most people, I guess). I have developed an odd sense of community with the regulars in this chat room.
So when new people come in, and do things differently than I'm used to, I suddenly have this lame, "get off my lawn" mentality.
When it's really kind of fun, if I can let go of that. Or at least interesting.
New people coming in, breaking the monotony of me making fun of mootinator's chat formatting, or all of us pinging the wrong @Tim all the time.
Of course, to you (@jcolebrand), I am a new person (relatively speaking).

We've all moved out of here to a new area ;-)
Plus I have my site to <> on

@jcolebrand That sounds like fun! Who is "we" in this context?

who isn't it? ;-)

3:43 AM
I...don't know. Me, I guess?
I'm still here.
(I think)

3:58 AM
Maybe I'm not, though.
Maybe that, too, is caching.
Perhaps I've been gone for many moons now.

@jadarnel27 Yeah. Those new people. With their non-customized gravatars. Funny names. And lack of community-mindedness.

Yeah! Hey...wait a second.

(don't be scared, I am really Oded in disguise)

Eeek, the devs are spying on us!

Wait, Oded is a dev?

4:05 AM
Yup.

@jmac I thought he was...

He is relatively new to the team, though.

(dev stands for deviant right?)

Hmmm...actually, I don't know @Oded that well.

Then you probably shouldn't call him a deviant!

4:07 AM
No, "dev" is obviously the misspelled abbreviation of "divine".

And we all know that "divine" is drunk for "the wine"

So basically, the SE team are all drunk. That explains a lot.

So @jadarnel27 is calling the SE team deviants, and now @michael is piling on calling them drunks? Shame shame. Pray they wield their powers with a kind heart.
(totally not my fault)

@jmac Be careful, I'll flag you! ...Before you posted, because I'm in UTC+1100.

@michaelb958 You have +2 UTC levels on me. I need a time wight to drain you or something.
By the power of QANTAS I compel you to fly west!

4:14 AM
@jmac There's no Qantas here.

New Zealand?
Tuvalu?

"Here" being the Tavern. There is Qantas in Australia, but ...well, plane tickets are expensive.

I could have sworn there is a qantas here some of the time.
But @qantas doesn't auto-complete, so I could be mistaken.

@jmac They've been gone too long.

See! There is a Qantas! Qantas Heavy or somesuch!
That won't solve the fact that there is no west in Tavern, but it gets us half the way to a solution.

4:18 AM
@jmac Qantas 94 Heavy to you.
As for the problem of there being no west, well... just call some SE site the Wild West of SE, and you're done.

@michaelb958 I didn't realize that this quiz was going to be graded...

@jmac You're doing better than me. I didn't even realise this was a quiz.

I recommend you blame caching.

No, I think oscillation was the root cause here.

oscillation is another very odd-looking word. Along with withdrawal.

4:22 AM
"Chaffeur" is the one that always gets me. Completely weird spelling compared to pronounciation.

@michaelb958 Chauffeur you mean?
You can blame the French.

@jmac See, the spelling's so damn weird I can't remember it. Bothersome French-origin words...

Yes, all those crazy French-origin words. Different, and probably strange.
(different = différent, probably = probablement, strange = étrange)

4:52 AM
I find French pronunciation to be even weirder than the spelling.
"Hey, you see all these vowels? Yeah, go ahead and pronounce one of the ones that's not there. You should be in good shape."

@jadarnel27 Which is what the discussion was originally about. But yeah, I was not expecting the word pronounced "SHOW-fer" to be spelled that way.
Also, greengrocer's apostrophe. Fix it. Now.

"Ohhh, so 'beau' would be pronounced 'bo'?" "You got it"
@michaelb958 ...fixed?

@jadarnel27 Fixed. Better.

Haha, I just looked that up. I've actually never heard that term.
I like it.

"Get your fresh pomme's here!"

5:03 AM
If anything is odd, it is English pronunciation.
Queue old adage about 'ghoti'
(you read that 'fish' as the story goes, 'gh' as in 'rough', 'o' as in 'women', and 'ti' as in 'motion')

I remember once seeing some weird-phonetic spelling of "potato chips". Might have to try and dig that up.

@michaelb958 'crisps'. You're right. That is weird.

5:56 AM
Every time I see a programming question on Meta I get a little excited - something inside me really likes pushing every destructive button I have on one post.

4 hours later…
10:13 AM
Zog bless us, everyone!

8 hours later…
6:28 PM
We haven't deleted a programming question here for seven hours - what's wrong?
2

2 hours later…
8:18 PM
Maybe they're learning?
Just kidding.
