@KevinB there's quite a few communities that had their core users leave
@CitizenandSociety I'm not :D
in theory one of the startups sites moved elsewhere (then died?) too

Hi, I fall asleep, missed the happy hour

It was quite a solemn and sombre happy hour, as per tradition.
Ooh! My spellcheck was turned off for some reason ._.

@CitizenandSociety BASIC (more accurate, GW-BASIC)
@CitizenandSociety yeah I know DOS as well but was never good in that for some reason.
@JourneymanGeek sombre is the victim?

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda naw, the dead doth not grieve

@KevinB you mean un-merging of sites e.g. Math? Don't think so.
@JourneymanGeek and they also don't gravy!

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I think more communities moving wholesale off SE
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Depends

Hey friends

user1477137
Pleae check my new answer stats.stackexchange.com/q/642152

user1477137
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I have forgot the codes

@CitizenandSociety uhhh, in general that sorta thing is frowned upon on chat, especially for sites that are not meta

user1477137
:(

if some post is of interest, sharing is fine, but not 'look at my answer'

user1477137
8:50 AM
Why that is not written as rule

cause its more common politeness than a rule rule

user1477137
Did I violated some others' politeness/ disrespected anybody??!!

user1477137
@JourneymanGeek It would be helpful if coded as a rule

user1477137
I dont want to hurt anybodyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

if we coded everything we'd have a REALLY thick rulebook no one would read

user1477137
8:53 AM
I would

user1477137
It is impossible to remember if really there are so many rules

user1477137
Must be written down somewhere

user1477137
in accessible format

user1477137
It is better to not feel like walk on eggshells

user1477137
I don't like to be surprised

user1477137
8:55 AM
I want things to be predictable

Sometimes a little consideration and chaos is a good thing ;)

user1477137
:)

user1477137
But how I would understand which one is appreciated and which one is "considered" or tolerated

user1477137
I am not "advertising" my answer. it it rude to feel desire to be seen or heared?

user1477137
And why it feels so bad that chat members are expected to intuitively know it is bad?

user1477137
9:00 AM
My question about that intuition and expectation

Same as any other social space

user1477137
Not about why am forbidden

You see what people do, and you pick up on it, and if you miss something, folks tell you

user1477137
@JourneymanGeek Social rules are hard :(

Well, this is a social space

user1477137
9:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek How I am supposed to remember them? by repeating in mind, like a poem?!!

If that helps, why not?

user1477137
okk

user1477137
So that means a social space not a safe space for every kinds of communication. Am I technically right?

user1477137
In such case; the social norms the space follow needs to be written down. otherwise it is hard to intuitively know what is frowned upon and why.

user1477137
Here I have an interesting observation. You know this particular action (sharing own answer) is frowned upon. Do you feel it intuitively? or you just follow it like a traffic rule just because you have been instructed to follow it?

9:11 AM
Yes

user1477137
?

user1477137
yes to which one hypothesis?

Yes?
Or alternatively, the same reason you don't drive 200km/h on the wrong side of the road

user1477137
because that causes accident

Do you need an accident to know its bad? :D

user1477137
9:14 AM
I give you 2 example. 1. I must not slap people because they feel hurt. This is something I "feel". but why to say "I am fine" to "how are you" is beyond my comprehension

user1477137
@JourneymanGeek yeah accident is bad. but asking to have a look to my answer is not an accident. anyone can ignore the message

user1477137
There isn't a force

"people can get out of the way"

user1477137
@JourneymanGeek ?

user1477137
@JourneymanGeek This is a safety measure, precaution

user1477137
9:20 AM
Even real life, I don't have an intuitive "feeling" behind most of the unwritten social rules. Just obey them to escape confflicts

user1477137
Does other people "feel" these type of rules?

user1477137
I use physical and emotional pain as my moral compass.

user1477137
I often feel like the social rules are more like being "politically correct" than being morally correct. I am not sure if I am right

user1477137
It is not about SE but it is about general life.

9:40 AM
18 messages moved to Chimney

2 hours later…
11:40 AM
@JourneymanGeek yeah thickness does matter, sadly. :P
But yeah, there's common sense, anywhere. :)
@CitizenandSociety true, and each place has its own set of social rules, sometimes it can't be felt of guessed, only observed after being part of the place for a while.
So you could have seen the "sharing own posts asking to look into them" is frowned upon, if you'd be here for like a year or so, but that's really can't be expected so it's totally fine to try, and be told what @Journeyman told you, you did nothing wrong.
And even after over 10 years here, I sometimes also fail and my messages get trashed, and I accept it.
Anyway if you write something on MSE it's easier to share here if it's about some relevant ongoing issue, but answers/questions on different sites aren't likely to have fitting audience here anyway, e.g. doubt anyone expert in statistics is roaming this chat. ;) @Cit
If you want only general review or grammar check, feel free to share posts in my Den, and I can go over them.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda stop pinging me. I feel guilty for being busy and not being able to come up with a proper comeback
@CitizenandSociety every other Thursday we gather around and make a blood sacrifice and decide what's appropriate and what's not for two weeks.
Whoops, now you know too much
@JourneymanGeek I was sound asleep and quite happy thankyouverymuch
@CitizenandSociety if you build some rapport, anything goes.
For example, I can dance naked in the middle of chat and everyone would clap for me.
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda well, it'd certainly beat your current Morpheus Link avatar

@M.A.R. veggie blood though!
@M.A.R. sure! Here, I'm stopping.
@M.A.R. because it's real, and not AI "enhanced"! :D
oops, ping!
@M.A.R. ah sorry... can't help it...
!!/tea M.A.R to wash all the pings
@M.A.R. that is a very long nose.... or a very happy Goblin.... :P
> Where does 👺 Goblin emoji come from? The tengu assumed emoji form as the Goblin emoji 👺 in 2010 under Unicode 6.0 and is officially called Japanese Goblin. Westerners unfamiliar with the tengu, however, often call the emoji a goblin or troll
lol
Might use that as avatar next.... opinions are welcome. :P
Just saw that in our local media:
@Journeyman those seem like chewing marks, so time to come clean. Where's that airplane?!
:-D
