@ShadowTheKidWizard Pattern-matching product name in body - Positions 526-541, 634-649: QuickFire Rapid

???
duh
Think there are way too many "patterns" now, so most would be fp's.

9:59 AM
@JourneymanGeek self-deleted spam meta.stackexchange.com/a/383930/294691

redeleted
I'm a bit iffy over nuking the user for now - smells fishy but I feel like I'm missing something

You're missing omega 3, that's what

1 hour later…
11:19 AM
@JourneymanGeek I think it's lost soul, not spammer, but meh, can't know for sure.
@M.A.R. funny, I'm now in 3rd level of Omega battles in Final Fantasy 14. :D

11:45 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard yeah, so... I'll see first
but deleting the post with a mod delete seems like a good enough 'warning' for now

@JourneymanGeek highly doubt the user will ever notice, but yeah, no harm in that.

@ShadowTheKidWizard well if they do it again...
BOOM

@JourneymanGeek kaba-boom
It's like a kebab, but with a boom.

kababs are wierd

nah
tasty
Ate three today.

11:47 AM
like its a giant hunk of mystery meat and salmonella.

It's meat with spices.
@JourneymanGeek what doesn't kill ya, makes ya stronger. That's my motto.
:D

@ShadowTheKidWizard or makes you very very sick

Very very sick, but then you get better, and stronger than ever. ;)

you're confusing kebab with the vaccine I had on friday :D

hmm
Maybe the kebab itself is a vaccine?
@Journeyman so you got very sick as result of the COVID vaccine?

11:51 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard I'm a lightweight so...

@Dial you got vaccine(s)?
@JourneymanGeek ?

@ShadowTheKidWizard hmm? wdym

basically had the same reaction as a bad cold.. slept a lot, triggered my allergies
arm's been a bit tender for the past 3 days

A COVID‑19 vaccine is a vaccine intended to provide acquired immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2), the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19). Prior to the COVID‑19 pandemic, an established body of knowledge existed about the structure and function of coronaviruses causing diseases like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). This knowledge accelerated the development of various vaccine platforms during early 2020. The initial focus of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines was on preventing symptomatic, often severe...
@JourneymanGeek well, it means it works! Now you won't have the real COVID. :P

@ShadowTheKidWizard I also went for the moderna one (which apparently has slightly more side effects) and the bivalent version so - my body probably hasn't seen some of the proteins before
@ShadowTheKidWizard well I had actual covid once and... it was fairly boring

11:54 AM
@JourneymanGeek before or after you had your first vaccine?

@ShadowTheKidWizard after the first round of 3
but was asymtomatic - only knew cause the test was positve

animated ad I got today (click at your own risk ;))

@ShadowTheKidWizard I was going to get a booster, but that might be redundant at this point

@ShadowTheKidWizard ya? y?

@DialFrost ja. bcz
@Mithical yeah, as a מחלים you won't get sick again for several months.
There was even תעודת מחלים, is this still a thing?

12:13 PM
@Mithical I got 2 boosters now >_>

@JourneymanGeek you win!
hehe @Dial and @Mith avatars are almost same in small version.
Purple on black.
Failed transparency?

@ShadowTheKidWizard Mithical?

@DialFrost that is correct

@ShadowTheKidWizard i have a tinge of blue

The other Mith isn't pingable

12:16 PM
@ShadowTheKidWizard ?

same colour pallet

@DialFrost not in the small version, no blue is visible
@JourneymanGeek CGA?

@ShadowTheKidWizard MGA?
Mithical Graphics Array :D

@JourneymanGeek that's from the future
CGA is four colors, so maybe EGA, 16 colors pallete.
Golden Axe was 256 colors which was awesome.

@ShadowTheKidWizard small version?

12:19 PM
@DialFrost there is another user who starts with "Mith" who sometimes appears here, and then @Mith would ping both.
@DialFrost ya
When writing several messages in a row, you get the big version
So you also see rep etc.

oh

And in avatars, size does matter. :D

mithpings sometimes happened

throwing Tusken on @star

12:22 PM
No worry he's not harmed.
His tusk would stop the tusken.
urgh I still didn't wash the plate, now it's dried up and harder to clean. ;(
!!/wash plate

@ShadowTheKidWizard No such command 'wash'.

12:50 PM
@ShadowTheKidWizard, the home page shows that this post meta.stackexchange.com/questions/335710/… was modified by someone whose name isn't there at all in the timeline?

@Exampleperson deleted answers show as 'modified'

Is that expected behavior of the site? Does it mean that an answer was created and deleted?
ohh
just as I thought :)

@Exampleperson Yes
actually it was discussed earlier here
3 hours ago, by Mithical
@JourneymanGeek self-deleted spam https://meta.stackexchange.com/a/383930/294691

hmm nice

@Exampleperson what JMG said ;)
@JourneymanGeek character builder?
Car is ready, going to take it. Hope to not forget activating parking. :D

12:56 PM
I think bad questions would be stopped if people were told that these SE sites are for questions that are useful to others and are clear and concise. Am I right?
except spam ofcourse

@SPArcheon Got the first two hours of gameplay in. It is not as horrible as you described, though there are some things that could be better, I agree.

@Exampleperson No. Just telling them to stop asking bad questions doesn't always work.

That's correct

@Exampleperson People need to 1) realise their questions are bad

I mean, that if they knew and followed that

12:57 PM
2) listen
There's literally question banned and suspended users who keep creating new accounts to ask questions

hmm
A lot of questions on SO are only related to the code of the poster, but aren't relevant to the general public, what about them?
Especially regex tag questions

@Exampleperson you can't MVCE without it
lots of good questions are specific to the poster

mvce meaning what?

Minimal Viable (verifable?) code example ?

@JourneymanGeek I am unable to understand, wdym?

1:04 PM
@Exampleperson eh, if you're going to wonder if a question, you need to understand SO conventions
generally code's expected in a SO question, rather than asking folks to help answer your question in a vacuum

Yes, I do understand that
But, I am specifically talking about non code regex

so that many questions are specific to the poster is by design

@Exampleperson Define none code reqex. All regex gets used by code (directly or indirectly)

Hmm... well questions specifically about regex

@DavidPostill you mean always doesn't work.

1:08 PM
@Exampleperson regex is code

@JourneymanGeek sometimes they even bragging about it in MSE as if it's a good thing. Those are the worst.

I like those
makes it easy to suspend em

@JourneymanGeek sure, but you can't change their rotten character.

@ShadowTheKidWizard Well no

1:10 PM
Regex gets used by code

but they only have so many email accounts and IP addresses

but you can ask quesitons wihout code relating to it?

@Exampleperson in a sense, regular expressions is a language

Well
some regex questions are only related to the author, those would never be of use to anyone else afaik

@JourneymanGeek not really it's just a term.
A regular expression (shortened as regex or regexp; sometimes referred to as rational expression) is a sequence of characters that specifies a search pattern in text. Usually such patterns are used by string-searching algorithms for "find" or "find and replace" operations on strings, or for input validation. Regular expression techniques are developed in theoretical computer science and formal language theory. The concept of regular expressions began in the 1950s, when the American mathematician Stephen Cole Kleene formalized the concept of a regular language. They came into common use with Unix...
With tons of different use cases.
It's not a language, it's not programming by its own.

1:13 PM
Such as this: stackoverflow.com/questions/74502512, although it is already closed, there may be tons of other ones such as these

@Exampleperson this is impossible unless you mean the author using their IRL details, in which case the post should be redacted anyway.

@Exampleperson It isn't a unique problem, it was asked before.

it seems like here in SE you guys got a lot of tools to manage the site

uh
I mostly use the flag queue and my nose :D

I am a new comer compared to y'all, so I'm still learning? I guess

1:14 PM
@Exampleperson not "you guys", it's "us", you're part of it.

I am not a moderator :P

@Exampleperson well, some mods aren't guys

@Exampleperson well - before I was a moderator I already understood how the system worked
and the tools to understand that are heavily in terms of working with meta and the community

@JourneymanGeek yeah, otherwise you wouldn't become a mod. ;)

to change something, you need to understand it first

1:16 PM
yes
I have a lot of issues with the close vote queues
It is very hard to determine if a question should be closed or not
especially when you don't know anything about the programming language they are talking about in SO

@Exampleperson so don't take part in such case.

I try to be as careful as I can, although there are other people still voting there too

Chances are you'll make mistakes and cause more work for others.

@ShadowTheKidWizard Not very often,
yes

I just skip anything I'm not sure about ;)

1:18 PM
yes I do also
everyone does! unless they are really lazy
where they might just close the tab? lol
Henry Ecker, I mean, in SO moderator election, wow!
just wow!

?
Random names game?

Toon Krijthe!
@Exampleperson I have no green idea who "Henry Ecker" is

see SO moderator election

Lukas Lang
@Exampleperson why?
I don't take part.

1:22 PM
alright
Henry is one of the candidates there

wow man, I mean in less than 2 years, 30k rep!

Surely each of them is awesome person and avid user.

and a lot of contribution too

meh, many times those end up suspended.

1:23 PM
wdym?
who ends up suspended?
He's got a lot of real contribution too, such as flags, etc

(being bit too eager to earn rep, so they're calling friends to upvote them, using sock accounts to upvote themselves, etc.)

He's contributed a lot too though

@Exampleperson maybe, I honestly have no idea.

eh
@ShadowTheKidWizard SO's a lot larger

@JourneymanGeek larger than what?

1:25 PM
and there's fair tactics to find stuff to answer

I'd say "largest".

@ShadowTheKidWizard everyone else. :D

hmm...

I used to use tag/front page RSS feeds

@JourneymanGeek sure, some are totally legit and works hard in legit ways to earn the rep. But some, well, are not.

1:26 PM
@ShadowTheKidWizard and its probably good to not assume someone who's gotten rep fast's cheated ;)

I keep bumping into suspended users on SO from time to time, with thousands of questions or answers.
Rep shines bright, it's tempting.
@JourneymanGeek not assuming, just stating there is such a chance. Surely mods already checked those who nominated themselves, so chances are very low.

According to quantum mechanics, everything can happen.

@JourneymanGeek well, now I don't think I like Singaporean cuisine

An electron of an atom in australia can pop up in the us

@M.A.R. You're not supposed to eat durians whole!

1:32 PM
@JourneymanGeek you have durians in your kebab?

never whole

Look, I know about the spirit of experimentation and all

@Exampleperson not really.

Eh, I suppose there's quantum mechanics in Singapore

@M.A.R. nah, they're too small for that.
Need a big place.
Like, my room
:D
My room can be clean and not clean, in the same time.
That's quantum mechanics.

1:42 PM
aren't electrons represented as just probability distributions? So by 1/10^n chance, it could happen right?

@ShadowTheKidWizard are you Muscle Man?

@M.A.R. never was, but also never too late to begin! :D
hungry spammer.

Not a spammer but someone who dosen't get SE
I've NAA flagged

no
This is spam.
But meh, let's see what mods will do.

@ShadowTheKidWizard the links are to legit/different sites

1:56 PM
Yeah, bbc.co.uk is a known spam site ....
6

@JourneymanGeek spammer get list of sites, they're working hard.

@ShadowTheKidWizard Martha Stewart might be a criminal but... she's also not a spammer
Its someone who's treating it like a forum

@JourneymanGeek lol
@JourneymanGeek well, let's hope it get nuked one way or the other.

and the question does mention looking for a recipie

1:59 PM
I'm not going to watch Paul Holland drop some eggs in bowl and whisk it to turn it into a cookie.

Sounds yummy

and certainly no soggy bottoms

Depends what makes them soggy
First Google result:
lol

@ShadowTheKidWizard yup

2 hours later…
4:39 PM
@SmokeDetector k

@Exampleperson Yes and no. ;) An electron bound to an atom has an insanely small probability of being detected at a macroscopic distance from that atom. OTOH, electrons are indistinguishable, and you can't mark them in any way, so it gets a bit tricky when you start talking about their identity. But maybe we should discuss this in chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/71/the-h-bar
@Exampleperson No. You can't simply tell people that "SE sites are for questions that are useful to others". They need to understand why the sites are like that, and they need to agree that it's a Good Idea for the sites to be like that. But even if they do agree, they may still post their crappy question anyway, if they're desperate for an answer.
@Exampleperson Yes, there are a lot of questions on SO (and other sites) that are of little use to other readers. We used to have a "Too Localized" close reason for them, but it was decided that it was being overused (and somewhat unfriendly), so it was removed.
OTOH, it's possible that good answers to a well-written specific question can be helpful to others who have related problems, even regex questions. Sure, they might not need that exact algorithm or regex, but it can be helpful to see examples of how to attack similar problems.
FWIW, I just got an upvote today on an old answer to a fairly localised Python question. I think it's unlikely that the upvoter had the exact same problem (unless it's homework), but they might be trying to do a similar form of array manipulation. stackoverflow.com/a/62392050/4014959

5:33 PM
hmm three pings, maybe @PM2 should be @PM3? ;-)
Which reminds me, @g3rv4 how are you this week? Ready for the new week to begin? :D

Well, they are replies to 3 separate messages.

Yep
Metasmokee dead, maybe that's why no reports for a while?
!!/status
yep, dead MS sometimes takes Smokey down as well.
@tripleee @RyanM any backup instance for Smokey?

Weird. They're alive & well in Charcoal HQ chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/62409884#62409884
At least, they were 13 minutes ago...

5:50 PM
!!/hallo?
Dead as, well, something dead.
I get that downtime can't be avoided, especially when the hosting is free (?), but got a feeling MS falls too much, and like now, taking Smokey down with it. Why not crowd funding and finding a real, stable, host? Maybe some cloud?

in Charcoal HQ on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 1 min ago, by SmokeDetector
Warning: Makyen/EC2-linux: Last 11 connection(s) to metasmoke failed. Setting metasmoke status to down.

@PM2Ring nice, the Smokey here probably isn't so advanced so it just died silently.
Or stuck trying to connect with MS.
Main smokey also died, but there were people to restart it, here there's nobody who can so guess we'll have silence for a while. ;)
My request for help was elegantly ignored, but meh, all good. :D

@ShadowTheKidWizard SD is back now (but MS is still down)

@cocomac here too? Didn't see any restart message.
!!/alive now?

@ShadowTheKidWizard ... good question

6:02 PM
huh
!!/status

@ShadowTheKidWizard Running since 17:56:50 UTC (5 minutes, 26 seconds)

@SmokeDetector awesome
@cocomac well, looks like odd coincidence that Smokey falls when MS is down, but OK.

@SmokeDetector why
Lots of false positives today.
Let's make double

What's a "Thoth"?
@SmokeDetector you choose between two messages, randomly. Nice.
2 days ago, by SmokeDetector
@ShadowTheKidWizard That message is not a report.
That's more common ^

> Thoth was the god of the moon, sacred texts, mathematics, the sciences, magic, messenger and recorder of the deities, master of knowledge, and patron of scribes. His Egyptian name was Djehuty, which means “He who is like the Ibis.” He was depicted as an ibis bird or a baboon.

Yeah just found it. ;)
Now to understand what it got to do with Smokey, but that's already most likely mission impossible. :P

6:47 PM
@ShadowTheKidWizard Yeah, ask Andrew what his server naming convention is based on XD

@DavidPostill it's Thomas Ward's server, not mine though ._.
I was just checking if there were 2 instances of Smokey running or not...

@MetaAndrewT. Sorry missed that :/

7:15 PM
@MetaAndrewT. so buy it ;)
@SmokeDetector why
and as usual...
Long time no real spam...
Even those two from cooking can't be considered real as quite a few here considered that legit. :/
New idea, have the patterns/blacklisted words expire after a while, as they're used to catch very specific spammers. Now with hundreds of those, false positives will only increase every day.
