status-gone

3:01 AM
I dunno how to do the mod tag mess ;_;

1 hour later…
4:05 AM
@Spevacus [status-something] as the entire content of the message, optionally including reply markup
The style used here is the way status tags used to appear on this site prior to being redesigned. You can still see this previous style in use on the mobile site.
It's an Easter egg, only activated on this chat server (chat.Meta.SE)

3 hours later…
6:44 AM
morning

morning

morning!

How's it going?

7:10 AM
A different kind of morning

7:22 AM
Sloooow.
There?

@Tinkeringbell doh!

The only reason my Visual Studio is open is because I didn't close it on Friday. I have yet to type a single character.
Let's do coffee first

I haven't typed a single line of code either... instead, I spent the time I usually can code in peace on early Monday mornings arguing with mom :/

Im doing tickets
80% furlough means I only work one day a week
this means I have enough time to work down some of the growing pile of tickets and then go home

@Magisch are they any interesting are is it just busy work?

7:30 AM
day to day stuff

@Tinkeringbell just tell your mom you're right because I said so. Say to Hi to your mom from me.

@rene Will do ;)

@Tinkeringbell anything in particular about?

@Magisch I euthanized a half eaten bird. Mom disagrees.

yikes

7:34 AM
Yeah, yay mom.
I should've wrapped it up properly before throwing it in the bin, then I wouldn't have to deal with this. Lesson learned :)

You can't save every creature on the earth but it shows your mom cares. Good call to finish the bird.

Yeah... I guess mom rather pays the vet to do the same job :/

That reminds me of the cat that had been run over
clearly finished but somehow still alive. Putting them down is a kindness in these instances

I do suspect the neighbours cat of doing this, I wish they'd put a bell on the animal. It's hunting all the songbirds away from our garden.

at least it wasn't a catcus
otherwise the bird would have needles in it too
:D

7:41 AM
Like it wasn't already sad enough when I found it :P

somewhere "circle of life" is playing

Yeah, though I don't really think housecats are part of a natural circle, more an artificial one...

songbirds do have natural predators also

True...

7:45 AM
I think the biggest we have over here is hawks ;)
But don't underestimate (sea)gulls or crows ;)

@Spevacus just start the message with [status-, and it with a ] and it will become status tag. Anything else will "break" it. e.g. try copy and paste this: [status-hello-Shadow]
:D
@Tinkeringbell crows eat birds?? Thought they only make lots of noise, break nuts, and hunt people who touch their eggs.... ;)

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Mostly carrion and baby chicks, from what I know.

only thing I know about crows personally is that they recognize faces and are weirdly intelligent
the local crows definitely remember I sometimes feed them

8:01 AM
Yeah, they are very intelligent too.

I can see how the association to witchcraft happened
if you regularly feed the crows they'll lose their fear of you and seek you out and bring you things

@Magisch well they're at least as smart as cats, otherwise they wouldn't survive...
@Magisch diamonds?

Crows can solve puzzles

This reminds me, @Sonic what about name change? What are the options?
@JohnDvorak and Captcha too? ;)

I suppose so. You'd have to teach them Latin letters first though.

8:08 AM
@JohnDvorak won't they eat the paper or give it to @Magi?

I don't think crows eat paper.
(you can also use touchscreens if the need be)

They'll knock their beak on the screen and type strange things.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance as you know, I am a catcus, so a plant
I dont think crows give things to plants
ask rene when in doubt

@Magisch the cat is more visible

but I even have flowers behind the ears

8:20 AM
Well, still a cat, just with thorns and flowers.

8:44 AM
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance can you clean up comments here: meta.stackexchange.com/q/349418/158100

@rene cleaned those about being off topic but I still don't understand what he means about monitoring so my first comment stands. Unless you do understand and can explain in better words?
Also, as something that cost (lots of?) money, I'd expect Enterprise will have its own support line, and those using it won't have to face Meta.

I read their request as; How do I get access to the data in my SO Enterprise instance. For "monitoring", "datascience"
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance they probably should (also) talk to sales.

@rene That's bit of a leap, but yeah, might be the case. Maybe edit is due?
@rene hopefully not just to be told "ask on Meta".... ;)

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance done an edit

9:11 AM
@rene me2

2 hours later…
10:55 AM
Lots of f today.... :/
f-day but not Friday...

its my friday
and my monday
and honestly the day names no longer matter to me

@Magisch so Monfri?
Wait, work is tough today?

Day names never mattered much. But right now it's past 1pm, I still haven't had lunch, and mom just called me down for lunch only to now spend time chatting at the front door with a neighbor and hanging laundry on the drying rack first

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance brews a cup of jasmine tea for @Mget

11:04 AM
Aaaaaagh

@Tinkeringbell so don't work from home? ;)
You can rent an office too..... :D
WeWork fell big time, but surely there are tons of others by now.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance No I mean I only work one day a week currently
80% furlough

11:29 AM
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance I like working from home.
I don't like my mom though :P

11:46 AM
nice, thank you for the tea

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance most co-working places would be closed if real officies were :D

12:04 PM
@Magisch oh, ouch.... Corona? :(
@Tinkeringbell mom.replace("dad"); then? :D
@Mgetz my pleasure! :)

status-understood

status-well-done

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Ehh. Perhaps, but definitely not always.
Probably nested 5 if statements deep

Can only use English letters too.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance [tag:status-🍵]

12:05 PM
@Tinkeringbell lol

aww the tag engine breaks on unicode

[status-🍵]
nap

that's a bug

@Mgetz nope.

A: Why are diacritics not supported in tags consistently?

Shog9Non-ASCII characters are enabled in tags on a per-site basis. On most sites, they're disabled; no reason to have a [tag:résumé] tag and a resume tag. On sites that host a large amount of non-English content, the setting is enabled. It's also enabled on Stack Overflow, for reasons I cannot begi...

Habit is a habit.

12:08 PM
You arrive, you get coffee, if I'm around. @g3rv4. ;)
How's the baby?

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance I agreed with the last comment but I understand both sides. In theory [tag:status-🍵] and would be synonyms but that requires a lot more work with curation

tbf I know there is software to go from tea -> 🍵 at least because windows, iOS and a few other things can do it.

@Mgetz android, windows, IOS and others have 'proper' emoji keyboards

@Mgetz yeah the predictive keyboard does it.

12:17 PM
oh agreed, I guess my point is that if you statically generate the emoji synonyms every time unicode does an update it's not as bad as it could otherwise be.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance pretty big :) how's the new life treating you? you're almost back full throttle, right?

I wouldn't necessarily let users create emoji tags though

@g3rv4 not almost, I'm fully back. :)

or you end up with a bunch of 💩 tags

@Mgetz we need such tag on meta. ;)
Anyhow, anyone can make something useful of this?
Any hint why that domain is down?

12:18 PM
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance alias for [tag:status-ohno!]?

@Mgetz nah, default tag for new questions....... :D

@g3rv4 :o
o/

@g3r does she walk by now?

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance nice! we're in that process :)
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance oh yeah, she walks, runs and talks... starting to form her own phrases
@Magisch \o/

o/

12:25 PM
@g3rv4 nice! Good job. So still no plans for a new branch? ;)

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance DEFINITELY NOT!
I mean... it's awesome and everything... but... one's enough for me :)

Your call... :)
And wife I guess....
Needs two for a tango etc etc. ;)

yeah, tango sounds like... pretty harmonious considering what we're talking about :P

:P
Biggest downside is that she will be, well... alone - my oldest daughter keeps ranting how hard it is to be the oldest, she's always blamed, she has to help, etc.... and she wish she would be the only child, but.... I know for sure it's good for her.
How many siblings you have? @g3r

I have 2... yeah, our initial plan was to have 2... but honestly, it was... a tougher experience than we anticipated

12:33 PM
having siblings is good because it helps you get used to the annoyance of other people early
this is a valuable skill that will serve to keep your stress levels down greatly later in life

Which can scar you for life if it goes wrong, but, you know, everything in moderation.

@Magisch This! And it starts as soon as they're born... my brother wasn't a little sister. So annoying!

heh yeah, I agree that having siblings is better than not having them. But... poor kid, she's going to get used to being an only child

although I would have hated having siblings

I hated my sibling for his first 16 years or so as well. It slowly got better after that.

12:35 PM
@Magisch Honestly... this is true up until a point. Sometimes I just get so frustrated with one of my siblings (usually the same one) that my fuse is short for everyone the entire day... or week.

@g3rv4 first year is always very hard, but didn't it become easier by now?
@Mithical you sure know to hide it well, never saw you lashing out online.... ;)

@Mithical can I have some of your self control please
I've never seen you actually get angry

Y'all generally aren't bigoted idiots...

getting angry at bigoted idiots isn't a character flaw

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance easier? yes. Good to a point where I enjoy my life as much as I did before kiddo? not really.
I guess I miss my old life very much

1:02 PM
Truuuuue positive

@Mithical what does your sibling do to make you so angry? (aka what should I expect in 6-8 years, literally.... ;))
Recently my kids get angry at each other mainly when one hits the other by mistake then refuse to apologize....
@Spevacus meh, worse stuff on Twitter

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Truuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeee

@g3rv4 well, "enjoy my life as much as I did before kiddo" will never happen.... get used to it..... ;)
@g3rv4 yeah, well, you can still do some stuff, go out for vacations etc, when the kid will grow a bit.
And go hang out with friends, though of course less frequently...
@Spevacus sounds like you need....
lol

Ah, jasmine tea.
That'll calm me down.

But it's for aaaaaaaaaa.
aaaaaaaaaa is a mean person.
Steal his tea and he'll become bbbbbbbbbbbbbb.

1:17 PM
What about eeeeeeeeeeeee?

that's his grandchild.
aaaaaaaaaa is old.

Quite the family.

yeeeeeeeeeeeah.

LOL

1:57 PM
I just pushed out a whole bunch of licensing-related changes. See the post and the most recent update to the post, and all answer updates.
5

@YaakovEllis Wanna update this answer of yours as well?
Also, nice! Awesome to see all of those issues people raised fixed in one fell swoop.

yup, in the middle of doing so

You rock.

2:26 PM
@Spevacus star!

RockSTAR that message!

Hey, I also just pushed a fix to production fixing four bugs. What do I get? ;)

The same thing I got when I fixed a critical bug in the newest version of our software.
The same brand of coffee we always get. The same people asking where the release notes are. The same people saying that a bug isn't fixed that IS fixed, they just didn't update their software.

One bug was in the following block of code. Took me precious 10 minutes to find it and few seconds to fix it. 10 points to the first who find also find it:
schoolData.forEach(currentSchool => {
    var schoolId = currentSchool['זיהוי בית ספר'];
    var supervisorApprovalData = supervisorApprovalMapping[schoolId.toString()];
    if (supervisorApprovalData) {
        if (supervisorApprovalData.Approved === supervisorApprovalData.Total) {
            matchingSchool['מפקח?'] = '[v]';
        } else {
            var tooltipText = 'מפקח אישר ' + supervisorApprovalData.Approved + ' מתוך ' +
            supervisorApprovalData.Total + ' קבוצות';
            matchingSchool['מפקח?'] += ' | ' + tooltipText;
In that one I blame JavaScript and it's lack of compiler.... ;)
Oh wait, that's a hint...

freakin' JavaScript dude

2:33 PM
yeah
node.js but still, JS syntax and "rules".
Or lack of rules, in that case.

@Spevacus updated, including haiku

Please don't stop posting haikus btw

Think @Yaakov is the first dev to regularly use haiku in official bug report replies. ;)

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Nooooo your bounty message doesn't have the right amount of syllables!

meh, I have no idea how to post a real haiku
;)

2:39 PM
5-7-5

No worry, my shame will be gone in 24 hours or so. :D
Unless Yaakov will save me that time and give the bounty to himself sooner. :P

the ideal haiku is 5-7-5, the first and last lines have no relation to one another but are connected by the middle, and will have a subtle hidden meaning

Hahaha

Well need to go shopping, maybe this will give me time to think about haikus!

2:42 PM
Boo mobile

this developer
has haiku prowess, and does
need recognition
Idk I'm not very good at them either to be fair

2:54 PM
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance 4-6-6? *squints*

3:45 PM
@Spevacus better than me, for sure. ;)
@Mithical @Art just said 5-7-5
So who's correct?

5-7-5 is the correct number of syllables. Yours is 4-6-6.

ohh
lol
taking blame
throwing it on @M.A.R
waiting for blame to bounce back
LOL
Cheat

*shrugs* seems clear

With direct access? Nah.

Direct access to what?

3:50 PM
Never mind, he's using same trick as you. Busted!
:P

Well uuuhhh

^

What about it?
Who is @spa?
Brother of @Spe?

the person who implemented that feature IIRC

3:52 PM
ohh
lol
Blame the blamer.

4:03 PM
what did you do this time, @terdon?!

I just posted an answer demonstrating why what the OP is asking for would take more time than the projected lifespan of the universe. Could that have been it?

OP's hopes and dreams were shot down. :(
It IS your fault.

Fun post though:

Q: Faster way to enumerate number than GNU seq?

Nordine LotfiI want to enumerate numbers (between 1 to 10136 range) but so far, most tools and trick I tried would struggle after 109 numbers or so... Here some examples (with smaller range): For seq 99999 real 0m0.056s user 0m0.004s sys 0m0.051s For seq 9999999 real 1m5.550s user 0m0.156s sy...

If by fun you mean torturous, then yes XD

I just figured out why my unit tests weren't working. It took me about just as long as terdon's answer says enumerating those numbers would take though.

4:16 PM
:)

lol

Now let's hope a new compile will still have everything working, then I can commit and start doing fun stuff.

I'm practically at that same stage ...

4:43 PM
@rene I failed :(

:(

):

I did push to master
I didn't check the buildserver ...

5:27 PM
🚽

I fixed stuff too.
About time.

Rob
5:55 PM
Never mess with the Master.

6:25 PM
@Rob No, no, that's called 'main' now ;)

Throw it in the trunk

Rob
*mein

3 hours later…
9:01 PM
@rene I did ask, SEDE doesn't come with Enterprise, sadly. On-prem people can access the database directly but hosted Enterprise people can only get read-only backups?... This is... based on what I've been told but it probably means more to you than to me.

Also I thought the point of sede was sanitized db access
If you own the DB
..

If you're hosting it yourself, nothing stopping you from just installing SEDE. Of course, sanitizing is also your problem then.

Unexpected Shog

Rob
9:17 PM

@Shog9 assuming you want to 😁
