But still, people who compare on the basis of IQ don't sound like high IQ...just a thought-

3 hours later…
5:48 AM
Anyone:
Which of the following is the sum of an infinite geometric sequence whose
terms come from the set {1,1/2,1/4...1/2^n}

1/5,1/7,1/9,1/11

Hint: the question doesn't specify you have to use all the terms
Hint 2: How do b4y n5s work?

6:10 AM
@JohnDvorak is this a hint? It's in the question...
what is b4y and n5s?

Hint 3: n5s is n4rs

what is n5s ??
I made up a random shortcut, we know sum of infinite gp is 1/1-r, setting r=1/8 gives 1/7

@QueenieGoldstein This came from the Mathematics chat, right?

But, with this method one cannot be certain that 1/5,1/9,/11 will never occur

Hint 4: Which of the following is the sum of an infinite geometric sequence whose terms come from the set {1, 1/10, 1/100, ...}: 1/9, 1/99, 1/909, 1/999

6:13 AM
@SonictheMaskedWerehog yaa
@JohnDvorak A,B,D supposedly

Hint 5: 1/5 = 3/15

The primary question is, can't we cook something so that we get 1/5....If we can't, is there a proof
@JohnDvorak I am not getting this one, check if ABD is correct in your precious question

There is a simple proof using ... hint: something that many people use every day without knowing, and rarely knowingly. And it isn't a physical object.

I am not many people then

in that you use it knowingly?

6:22 AM
@JohnDvorak okay, go on and give the answer. i cannot understand

Hint 5.1: 1/9 = 7/63 where 63 = 2^6-1

answer to the proof statement*

It's a question for you, isn't it?

well...I have been overlooking something
LOL
The reasoning i gave out is correct
I skipped the word "geometric"

6:37 AM
@SonictheMaskedWerehog where?
@QueenieGoldstein so it got even to you? :D
@rene not the ordinary off topic question, but doesn't look like the OP is affiliated with any of the sites mentioned in the post, so don't think it's really spam.
@QueenieGoldstein IQ tests have one purpose: to get people to pay money. It's an industry.
2
It costs money to prepare for the test, it cost money to take the test, etc.

7:03 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Can I award bounty in chats?
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yes, Queenie Goldstein was not the imposter

7:29 AM
IQ tests are lateral thinking offline puzzle competitions where if you score high enough, you earn the opportunity to pay even more annually for bragging rights.
3

Are you in your cynical mood?

sorry

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Most tests are
Also... uh... why even care how smart other people think you are? :D

7:46 AM
@rene Me? sometimes, when the system apparently is like the IQ industry

@QueenieGoldstein I was not asking the room in general, just reacting to what John said. So no, it is not about you but thanks for sharing your thoughts about that topic.

Q: Pirate's eye (Feature request to un-watch tags with a single click)

Queenie GoldsteinThe Pirate's eye The current design of all stack-exchange sites allow the users to Watch and Ignore tags. The purpose of this feature has been described in the following post: What do “watched tags” and “ignored tags” do? Stack Exchange permits the user to watch multiple tags at once (Upper lim...

+1 for the fancy name of the feature ...

Haha :P Thanks
@rene If I may ask, why is your profile picture an off-focus flower?

Because I'm not sharp.
Also: the photo is from my own collection, so I think I own the copyright.

I see, funny thing: I dont own the copyright of this name
xD
Also, your github page is 4 years old and needs an update sehr schnell

Why?

8:51 AM
@rene updated...earlier it said cc 2016 only

yes, that was the only quick fix I could imagine without having to write a blog post

9:29 AM
@QueenieGoldstein no, just stars. And beers. ;)
@QueenieGoldstein did you win?
@rene that's not his cynical mood.
@JourneymanGeek at least during school you don't pay to be tested. :)

Nice edit, +1ed

thanks, I also updated the feature request paragraph to mention precisely what needs to be done

9:52 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Do be careful
@ShadowWizardWearingMask uhhh
School fees man

Shadow Wizard must be from Germany

10:24 AM
@JourneymanGeek those aren't for the tests. ;)
@QueenieGoldstein Nein

@ShadowWizardWearingMask They include tests if not they are solely for it
I said that because Deutschland has frei education probably any kind of. I looked for a few UG universities there..the only thing is that I have to be fluent in german but I have lost practice while preparing for UG universities 😂😂

@QueenieGoldstein well here we don't pay for the school directly, just for the "extra" stuff. This includes books, travels, and whatsnot... so bottom line, paying as much as the school wants, and more. But still, tests aren't directly included in the payment. ;)

I don't know about Israel, but in my country, all school charges a primary fee called "tuition fees". And other categories of fees include "transpost", "Lab fees"and rest extras

@QueenieGoldstein yeah, the bottom line is how much money one spends on school.... and I suspect it's a lot, in most places of the world. :)

So, test is included in the tuition fees which can vary from $200 to $2000 per month for private schools

10:36 AM
oh wow

USD↑
@ShadowWizardWearingMask is there a concept of "coaching classes" / tuitions there ? And is that chargeable or not?

Never checked private schools here, ordinary school takes only annual (per year) fee as far as I remember, which is about $3500
@QueenieGoldstein not sure what it means?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Like for colleges...SAT coaching/JEE coaching etc. etc.

There is something for low grades, that let the child stay in school few hours after classes end, which cost monthly fee, but they don't learn during this time. Kind of "mini day-care".

We have that too

10:41 AM
@QueenieGoldstein not that I know of... there are special classes for good students, but there's no official guidance for that, it's per-school.
That said.... I don't know about high grades, so maybe they do something there. @Mithical might remember better than me, it's still very fresh for them. ;)

Ohh, I see

@QueenieGoldstein nice arrow, but too thin, hardly noticed it. "^" is better, IMO. ^^ ;)

Random question: Can a 16 year old be a moderator?

@QueenieGoldstein sure. Even 13 y/o.

what is IMO? ↑↑↑↑↑↑↑ ^ a bit large I see

10:44 AM
(but not from Europe.)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask diamond?

@QueenieGoldstein sure.
Just not SE employee, I assume.

They are kids!...

big kids, with big diamonds. :D

But moderation is associating a person with the company and giving them rights righr?

10:45 AM
There are many 13 y/o who are more mature and responsible than many adults.

But moderation is associating a person with the company and giving them rights right?

@QueenieGoldstein nope.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I am talking about the legal issues
Ohh

They're not legally associated with the company.
They don't get any money or actual benefits IRL.
SE isn't even requiring to know their IRL details.

I have read about a former moderator monica after which many moderators left (I don't know if I should bring this up, please ignore if not appropriate)
The company had the direct relation to remove moderation capabilities

10:47 AM
@QueenieGoldstein yes, and she's way over 16. So how is this related?

So, the company "firing" someone has to be hired by them?

@QueenieGoldstein of course, still, the removal itself is not the issue.
@QueenieGoldstein Moderator isn't hired. :)

But f
ired

"fired" is also a wrong term, but yeah, commonly used.

Rob
Arrgh

10:49 AM
So I was in a terrible misconception that a moderator is directly associated with the company

The Monica drama consists of two main events: 1) Removing her moderator status on all sites (there were four, I think) without any notice to her, and without even reaching out to her properly before doing it, and 2) defaming and shaming her in public which is x1000 times worse, and that's what led to the real explosion.
@QueenieGoldstein not so terrible and likely not so rare, but yeah... they're not associated officially with the company more than you or me. They just sign bunch on online documents/agreements but nothing reach their actual identity in real life, as far as I can tell.
There's also a chance I'm the one who is terribly wrong here, was never a mod on SE myself so all of this is my personal outside knowledge, @JourneymanGeek for example can tell for sure.

Rob
and 0) Her group's rights vs another group's rights; that the other should preside over her's.

@Rob not sure what you mean by that?

Rob
Excellent.

Oh. Good then. :)

11:03 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well - fundamentally, yeah, it was basically that, though ugh, over time it's a little bit more complex
Firing isn't "technically" accurate, and a mod could but rarely is removed for any reason
but part of the issue is how it was turned into a big circus

@Rob real art! :D
@JourneymanGeek no doubt.

SWWM are you a surgeon?
you look like one...

But mods aren't required to give IRL info to SE, right? @Journeyman (e.g. even their real name)

oh, nope

And they're not legally associated with SE the company.

11:06 AM
They do have my real name and address cause swag

SWWM= shadow wizard wearing mask

Well - there's the mod agreement, which sets out our "legal" relationship with SE
but practically tbh, its more about the social contract than anything else

yaaa that's what i was talking about

@QueenieGoldstein ROFL!

@JourneymanGeek so a 13 yo can sign that?

11:07 AM
@QueenieGoldstein uhhh
You probably can't be a mod if you can't legally use the site
but no one will ask you for your age

13 y/o from USA can.

illegal mod

I think the youngest mod ever was... 16?

@QueenieGoldstein yes, part of hundreds of millions new surgeons all over the world, born to the Corona. :P
@JourneymanGeek pretty sure younger

@Rob well it's overflowing from the wrong place. Still nice. :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well we used to get swag :)

11:45 AM
@DavidPostill did you get a hat ?

funny thing, the "send" button has actually the name "sayit"

@JourneymanGeek I've had 2 lots of swag (moderator and 100K), I have 1 SU hat, 1 SU T-shirt, 1 SO T-shirt, 1 SU beer mug, 1 SU coffee cup (alas now broken it blew over in a gust of wind and smashed beyond repair) and load of stickers (which I've no real use for)). I'm wearing the SU T shirt today, and I wore the hat earlier today whilst shopping (it is raining here).

12:15 PM
there was a SU beer mug?

12:35 PM

ah
I have never seen that
and my 10k mug was an SO one I have packed away somewhere
wait no
the 10k was a SU mug... where did I get that SO mug...
Also... I have to retire my OG SU T shirt
(I have a few spares but...)

@JourneymanGeek I don't drink beer, so I'm open to offers :)

Nor do I :D

@DavidPostill it can hold coffee just fine, no? ;)
My SO mug holds Shekels.
Though these days can't access it.
@QueenieGoldstein huh? Where?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I guess. I will give it a go :) I do already have 2 coffee mugs of a similar size ...

Rob
12:52 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I used to have a beer stein packed with cash, what a coincidence that we find the same use for a drinking container.

1:05 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask right click send button→ inspect element...see class

2:41 PM
@DavidPostill cheers! :D
@QueenieGoldstein ohh
@Rob yup. Great minds...
What happened to that cash?

Rob
That particular cash was spent decades ago, I lost the beer stein while moving, and now I have a far far smaller pile of cash that I can grab some of on the way out - the beer stein was certainly better, it could hold two levels of rolls.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I guess it's a unique idea, I can't find an image of a beer stein or glass stuffed with cash; this is the closest thing:
Only single decker, and much smaller diameter. :(
Even George Washington seems unhappy, but I never put bills that small in my stein.

3:51 PM
@Rob there's my own, let me find it...
Weird, turns out I didn't update over a year, but found it:
Since then it got almost full. No bills, just hard earned coins. ;)
While searching, found Brad:

@Mithical so he was 14 when appointed? Also, can't figure why use Gibberish in the profile, better just leave it blank, but not my business and not a site I follow, so meh. :)

Yeah, he was 14
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's not gibberish.

4:48 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Not gibberish!

Well, OK. I mean, it could be gibberish, but that depends on your definition of gibberish :)

@Ollie Hmm. Were they nuked for spamming?

Yep.
Or it was a spam flag I raised. Looked back later, saw they were deleted.

10:11 PM
Spammers can recreate their accounts after being nuked for being a spammer, but having their account destroyed on those grounds carries an implicit suspension along with it. Some of the SO mods like to suspend for a year, then destroy, which will keep them suspended if they recreate their account. The new suspension that comes from being destroyed in this way is overridden by the year-long suspension they had been given just before.

The user is suspended for rule violations.

Is spamming not against the rules? ;)

Not when I do it.
;)

Rob
10:27 PM
@Spevacus It looks like a 2 week suspension, not a more serious penalty.

10:48 PM
Is the "If your question is about this website, ask it on meta instead." in the sidebar on the Ask Question page shown on every website?
On SE.
No...

How would I/is it okay to report that?
I ask because everyone says Area51 is... different.

@Ollie might as well. It's not sunsetted

@JourneymanGeek Done.
It's reading bugs that really get me.
I'll be going now
