@Meta Andrew I like how you just deleted your message so the transcript is magnificently confusing.
Until rene comes along and moves 5 million messages to the chimney
The guy's a power plant.
Wow that's like a super duper pun. I need to reward myself for making it.

leaves gift in @Marshmallow's show

@Marshmallow give gift for the present's present
confused myself from my message and had to recheck dictionary...

*shoe

Hey, a show is fine too...

12:50 AM
@Aibobot Yes, I was looking for a 'show' in myself and couldn't find it

@Marshmallow YOU NEED TO FIND YOUR INNER SHOW!

1:33 AM
@Marshmallow if you don't "For Science" it then how do you know if your right?

You know, after careful consideration, I'm coming out in favor of the general concept of network-wide ads. The SE team has been shortstaffed for a while now, and the extra revenue will allow them to recruit more people and thus Meta issues will be resolved faster.
Those who don't like ads can block them. It's still an overall positive stream, compared to the status quo of zero.

I don't think network-wide ads is the problem, just that some are irrelevant, annoying, and scammy.

I never thought you would dissent on this one, Sonic

Its not 'just' about money though

There are users who disable "reduced ads" privilege because they are genuinely interested in the ads, but if they always get those problematic ads... it's not surprising if they change their mind.

@MetaAndrewT. "general concept"
@JohnDvorak I dissented from the majority of experienced SE users on the Welcome Wagon...remember one of my usernames from a while back?

7:10 AM
@MetaAndrewT. I adblock ._.
3

For the record, I do consider every ad annoying, and block them all.
I'm the kind of person who just doesn't want to be exposed to online advertising in any form.

which is fine

So, while I won't be participating in this revenue stream, I do support SE's tapping into it from those who are willing to participate.

I don't think though that any one venture succeeding is really going to directly affect community team staffing

It's gonna go straight to investors and executives?

7:15 AM
If you think about it - the community team is a little like IT
Its essential but a cost center

SE is painfully slow at responding to questions and requests from users.

So its more about overall willingness to invest in it than any one feature suceeding
@SonictheBracketedHedgehog they reply at all though
and you get an actual human who's familiar with the thing

@SonictheBracketedHedgehog compared to..?

and honestly, I'd think its pretty hard to find something like SE's community model at all.

In the Jeff days, everything would be responded to fairly quickly. Even when I first participated in this site in 2013, it was still quicker.

7:18 AM
@SonictheBracketedHedgehog but there were fewer sites

@JourneymanGeek So there's a monopoly.

and much simpler decision making

@MetaAndrewT. compared to questions and requests from Twitter

@JourneymanGeek SE needs more CMs to handle the increased site load
@JourneymanGeek I thought we drastically simplified decision making with the new responsive designs?

@JohnDvorak wrong comparison, but alright...

7:19 AM
@SonictheBracketedHedgehog ooh, that is a statement I really don't want to reply to for obvious reasons.
@SonictheBracketedHedgehog well more that

@JourneymanGeek Which?

the one about needing more CMs

Since you didn't use the "reply" button it highlighted the second one

true
ANyway
In the early days, you had what....
1 product and 3-4 devs?
and you'd literally have Jeff waking up in the middle of the night...
and fixing a bug
and if things broke, he'd just fix it
Imagine if SO went down
So you have better, more formal processes

Todays, when SO dies, you have to wait 'till monday, and that's when Twitter notices. Otherwise it's 6-8 weeks.

7:22 AM
@JohnDvorak that's pretty unfair
they're typically super responsive to actual breaking bugs

I was just extrapolating from your words. Please don't take me seriously on that one.

The point is plaform in 2013 was a simpler thing than the platform in 2019

That's true

I mean, SE isn't perfect...

I mean, it took months for SE to simply send a contact to Imgur that merely reported a bug with their image resizer. Once that bug report was sent, Imgur fixed it within 24 hours. Why such a delay?

7:28 AM
@SonictheBracketedHedgehog well, if memory serves they swapped helpdesk systems
and apparently it got lost
SE isn't perfect, but the worst we can blame them for is being a little scatterbrained

@JourneymanGeek Also, it would probably give much more force if you reposted this comment of yours through your main moderator account.

Oops
I'm not perfect and I can be blamed for being a little scatterbrained...
done

Seeing that done in realtime was... amusing XD

lol
I'm looking forward to the day aibobot can be retired ;p

7:46 AM
anyway, it's funny that I still don't get any non-SO ads on other SE sites... is it based on the location/country?

8:18 AM
Bah

Coming to the Tavern, seeing the same old soul-draining discussion. Isn't anywhere safe anymore?

Wizards Den

Place for all wizards to share spells, words, and having fun w...

Maybe not even the Den is safe.
I mean, the last 50 messages look like things the participants of the discussion already knew, and probably just have different takes on it mentally. And it's definitely not a fun discussion to have. So why have it?

Yeah, my fault. I should have ignored it.

8:22 AM
@Marshmallow :/
@Marshmallow I'd rather leave those conversations to meta
pops in, sees poop
Bag it people.

@JourneymanGeek that's typical in Den
in Shadow's Den, 13 secs ago, by KennyBOT
~ 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩 💩
It can be more, but it's only Sunday. :D

@Marshmallow frankly
I'm on a sunday day shift and I'm bored XD

We already see enough of Makoto being jaded, users admitting years-long trends on SO, except in a much more negative light, and people don't like ads. I find that to be more disheartening to conversing here than 'blacklisted website in answer'.

@JourneymanGeek So come play with the bots! :P

@Marshmallow oh uhm
@Marshmallow I didn't bring that up here on purpose lol

8:25 AM
@MetaAndrewT. honored to see people think Den is a safe place... ;)
@Marshmallow we can always talk about unicorns
or unicoins

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Bingo.
I ate unicorn kebab yesterday.

you did?

No I ate
How do you do unicorn kebab?

@Marshmallow it had a horn?

@Marshmallow funny story actually

8:28 AM
Didn't it sting you inside?

@Marshmallow you corned the kebab uniformly

Think geek once accidentally mixed up a shipment
and sent my brother canned unicorn meat (a dismembered toy unicorn in a can)
My brother was like "Dude, they sent me a can of meat ._.)
so I googled it... ;p

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard No it was really delicious
I mean, an animal that farts rainbows and poops skittles can't taste too bad.

OK, you called for it!

A: Will there be any product updates?

Tim PostSuper-short, totally cheat-sheet ready answer: Yes! There will be product updates and they'll resume as early as 2019-06-21! For a long time, our company blog has been ... well, kinda corporate-y. That's not bad for a corporate blog, but along the way we went from being probably way too informa...

21 in June passed already.
Were there updates I missed?

The Tag Synonym v2...
deja vu

8:31 AM
@MetaAndrewT. nah, Tim said it will be in the blog

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Still June 21st in Mars.

Well, I have a feeling we won't see anything even in June 21, 2020
Maybe only another answer promising some new dummy date.

I think a corporate-y blog came to be because the ice broke and devs saw they can announce things on meta, and that the blog link is featured on every site so it has to be important-ish subjectively
BRB

MSE featured questions are also features in the sidebar of all sites, not just blog.

._. actually saying it could start on a sat...
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard I'm still a bit confused over how they're going to communicate
there's blog (which hasn't really gotten less corporatey)
there's meta
and that planned 'better' way to look at FR/Bugs

8:35 AM
through a consecutive messages in everyone's inbox...

tbh, and I say this unironically, stalking people on twitter works best sometimes

@JourneymanGeek I'm not... they're not going to do that. Easy.
:)

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard oh that would be less confusing ;p

Over the years, Tim (maybe others too?) promised lots of awesome things. But usually this only lie buried in some MSE or blog post, never actually having any real result.

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard well, there's some stuff getting fixed
and not always obviously

8:37 AM
No, not fixing.... some grand projects.

oh grand projects...

Anyway... I want less grand object...

They're a bit like nasa in that ;p

!!/coffee myself

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard brews a cup of Cappuccino for @myself

(lots of big things planned. SpaceX does it first ._.)

SpaceX got Welcome Wagon?

What do you think the red roadster was?

oh wait long time since @ᔕᖺᘎᕊ was pingable! :D
@JourneymanGeek toy

Welcome Wagon ;p

8:42 AM
They're hyping in Hyperloop

8:58 AM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard yeah it's been a while :P

9:15 AM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard That brings back 1990 vibes
Imagining @ᔕᖺᘎᕊ as Samuel Jackson with fuzzy hair ranting in front of the movie camera

4 hours later…
1:34 PM
@ᔕᖺᘎᕊ true!
@Marshmallow Pulp Fiction?

3 hours later…

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard That's a miniscule dump, weak by human standards. Here's a 96 million dump.

Rob
It's censored.
They replaced the 💩 with ●.
Plus, unlike wombat, they roll (but not back).
