@rene Have you by chance, sent feedback for ads saying you don't wish to see them anymore?
Because that may cause a blank ad to render next time

1:23 AM
@Rob I thought they got rid of that when they switched away from Adzerk?

Rob
It had that behaviour a week ago
Not sure now, though, as I ended up blocking ads on SE entirely now that they're animated

1:46 AM
Interestingly, I have not seen any animated ads, or even totally unrelated ads. Usually they're just ads from SO or empty spaces...

Rob
The only ads I saw that weren't animated were the SO ads
Enjoy the empty spaces while they last before it's fixed ;)

@Rob if I have done so, it must be by accident. I tend to not pay attention to them, let alone clicking near or on it. What could be is that the ad is targeted at a specific region and that they find out too late I'm in Europe?

Rob
Hmm.. possibly

Let's call it Adxit

Q: Top bar is visible through 'welcome back' message

Stijn .top-bar { z-index: 5050; } versus #overlay-header { z-index: 5052; } so the overlay should win. Strangely enough disabling the top bar z-index fixes the issue. Another fix is to set the overlay background alpha to 1 instead of 0.95 So maybe a combination of the z-index and alpha is responsibl...

I wonder if any other site has this issue....

7:14 AM
@JourneymanGeek Gardening looks fine to me...

(I was also popping it somewhere where Megan or a CM would see and pass it up. I never got a good answer to how TPTB monitors sites)

@JourneymanGeek I think they do track things tagged bug.

@Tinkeringbell true, but its kinda 'my' site XD. IF I HAVE INFLUENCE I MIGHT AS WELL QUIETLY ABUSE IT ;p

I hope it works ;-)

7:54 AM
@Rob but it also cause ~10 seconds lag/delay of the whole page, so... not fun.

Q: Onebox of new blog posts is broken

Shadow The Curly Braced WizardTrying to onebox new blog posts from https://stackoverflow.blog fails, the message stay as a plain link to the blog post and does not onebox anymore. Example. Oneboxing of older posts is still fine. Example. Something changed, probably around June 2019, causing the onebox to fail. One thing th...

@JuanM but what went wrong? WorkPlace still bugged.
Also while at it... just saw this cropped ad on arqade:
Not really useful ad.
Guess there are two versions for each ad (vertical/horizontal) and wrong version loaded in side bar?

3 hours later…
Woah. I don't think I ever marked that much flags as helpful in one click!

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard yep, this is what I mean by "leaderboard ad shown on the right sidebar"...

@JNat possible cross network spammer, see this. They posted obvious spam and deleted it right away. Not sure why, but if done on other sites... think we can assume spammership for sure. Thanks!

appears to be the only post from the account, at a glance

oh wait... on second read (link was so spammy I didn't bother to read everything) it might be attempt for real answer
hmm... smelly, but yeah not enough to nuke. Cheers!

11:15 AM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard yeah, probably because the latest blog post doesn't have a list, thus no onebox...

@Tinkeringbell 3? ;)
@MetaAndrewT. ohh
@MetaAndrewT. hmm.... I noticed a missing meta tag.

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard 6 :)

11:33 AM
hmm
buh
@Tink finally I'm not like you anymore! (change might take a while to synch in chat ;))

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard If you want me to mash refresh, just ask :P
Nice picture!

Well, she is wearing converse :P

@Tinkeringbell hehe... amazing Google detects this out of everything... :D

Google is a bit creepy sometimes ;)

11:50 AM
especially when it creeps on everything you call private...

lol seeing @Tink avatar I still think it's my own
:P
@EKons surely Google don't know how many times a day I go to toilets! :D
let's see....

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Kinda is... you picked it! :P

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard um... don't be so sure, just because they aren't going to reveal that to you

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard I swear I once forgot to turn off my location and was asked to rate/review the toilets at the train station ... Google knows everything.

(message hidden in edit history so G***** doesn't get ideas)

11:57 AM
@EKons you... are.... right..... :O :O :O

Moral message: don't bring your phone to the toilet...

@Tinkeringbell lol... true!

Moral message: don't drop stuff.

@MetaAndrewT. easier said than done...

@MetaAndrewT. one of my co-workers is doing this. 99% of the times, his phone rings when he's away in toilets. And it's really loud. :P
@Olivia easier said than done...

11:59 AM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Not really :*

@Tinkeringbell hehe... well yeah Google asked me to rate tons of places too, until I stopped responding. :D
@Olivia you're still young... I bet you'll drop your phone to the toilets at least once in the next 20 years. ;)

and then they masquerade it as "Local Guides"... yeah right, I'm totally going to rate my experience in the loo

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Isn't that more a standing thing?

@EKons Well to be honest would be nice to know in advance how clean specific public toilets are going to be.

maybe include that in the general review then?
(not that they don't know how to read the word "toilet" or "WC", but eh)

12:05 PM
@Olivia well, in my case it fell when I took the pants down in order to sit and it was in the rear pocket. So can totally happen to anyone. :[

yeahhh, but you kinda have it coming if you keep your phone in a back pocket. They're terrible for storing bigger things in.

pro tip: NEVER put the phone in the infamous pocket

@Olivia now I know... and that's the motive for the LH question about forgetting it, since I take it out and place somewhere else, not in a pocket.
@EKons infamous pocket?

the back pocket

hmm... I have two. Which is the infamous then? ;)

12:08 PM
having your phone fall off of there isn't the only danger, you might also sit on it, have it stolen without you realizing, and possibly more I'm forgetting about

I sit on my phone many times, it's not affected. :D
As for stolen good point but.... I'm careful to not get too close to people.

oh, and NFC danger

Also, I have cheap phone, so don't really care.
@EKons Near-field communication? Think it's turned off.

lol come visit Greece and you will care as you never did before
yes, near-field communication

Also... what's the risk? People downloading my pictures? ;)

12:10 PM
Instant payment...

bank transactions

@MetaAndrewT. nah, don't have it enabled

pretty sure that's the reason they don't put it in a lot of phones anymore

@EKons the only app capable of this in my phone requires password or finger print.

Or, at least that's the risk if you put a contacless payment card in your back pocket

12:12 PM
@EKons that's about it

granted, a physical card, not a phone

My cards are all in the wallet.

as they should

Never had cards in the phone cover.
(or money)

basically, anything precious doesn't go in the back pocket, that's an economy class spot :D

12:13 PM
Purses for the win!

or front pockets if you're a guy...

@Tinkeringbell I now picture a flying parrot carrying a purse

(even in non-tight jeans)

@Magisch To be honest, it's mostly backpacks for me. I do have some purses. Some really big ones too :P

12:15 PM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard I don't think that's true for all pants
(but it's true for all jeans)

I remember one day I bought a new purse, and it was so big, I just put my old purse inside it and it had room to spare :P

also, there are shoulder bags for guys too :P

@EKons Those are called messenger bags, right? Not purses?

still prefer the front pockets for phone and wallet...

I do too, if only they made pants with pockets that were big enough.

12:17 PM
@Tinkeringbell they can
anything with a zipper works ;)

@Tinkeringbell I have one of those

combine with my glasses, I called it "the essential triangle", so that I always remember I don't forget something...

for some reason I find it looks more sophisticated then a backpack

@EKons well, jeans are most durable and common...

@EKons True! We had this guy that would come to the bakery to buy bread, and just put it behind the zipper of his oversized vest, together with the newspaper and cheese

the what

@Magisch Yes, and no :P Depends on the kind of backpack vs. messenger bag ;)

I usually take a backpack to put groceries in there so I don't have to buy additional plastic bags

@EKons this, I guess:

I have bicycle bags for that... or how are they called in English? The kinds you put on the rack of your bike?
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard No, no, not at all..

I have a shoulder/messenger bag, but that's because I feel a backpack is too big/uncomfortable for me

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard yeah... no, kaput, nein, nyet, never

always somewhere that's intended to store things, NOT UNDER MY CLOTHES!!!

12:20 PM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Trying to find one. But google isn't helping. It was one of those old guys long sleeved dark green striped things.
@EKons Bra's can carry a lot!

@Tinkeringbell like a robe?

@Tinkeringbell why does that sound way more common than it should...

I did put a 330ml can into a front pocket...

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard noooo... it had one of those elastic bands at the bottom...

@MetaAndrewT. hopefully still closed? ;)

12:22 PM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard yeah, and still cold :S

@EKons Because it is very common? Though phones today are a bit too big. But I remember when phones were smaller... and I still wore dresses...

opens can POP SSSSSSHHHHHHH... has to clean mess

Might be still, not soda?

@EKons Worse if you forget there's still any kind of packaged liquid in a pocket and you sit down ...

what goes in a 330ml can? ;P

12:24 PM
orange juice?
Or green iced tea

apple juice
I think there is canned water

and does beer count as still?

beer does foam

12:24 PM
but it's not carbonated :P

the foam is CO2

yeah... ew
I'd expect some fizz in a 330ml can

People can have strange expectations sometimes

12:27 PM
but... seriously? why can't you put it in a bottle or juice box instead of a can???

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard pure mango juice is overkill to drink out of a can and the other stuff is mango flavored sugar water

@EKons there are those too
@Magisch well, most mango juice sold here is about 50% real mango with added sugar, yeah.

@EKons The same goes for fizzy stuff... it can go in bottles instead of cans.

100% pure juice tastes sour/acidic tbf, so it won't really sell well

there's also plastic (previously glass!) bottle

12:29 PM
@Tinkeringbell that I can accept of couse
but it can't go in a juice box
@MetaAndrewT. glass bottles still exist, they're just a bit rarer nowadays

@EKons It can go in. If it stays, that's another matter :P

@EKons still common in Israel
Mainly for Cola and Iced Tea

no, tea in glass bottles isn't really common in Greece

@Magisch there's certain mangos...m
You just roll em and suck out the pulp like a fruit vampire

@EKons no such tea?

12:32 PM
huh no

@MetaAndrewT. those used to be a thing in SG a long time ago

@EKons So come here!

@Tinkeringbell o0

@JourneymanGeek Sorry? I forgot I wasn't hanging out with a bunch of girls ;)

12:33 PM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard actually, I think Israel regards its national brands more highly than Greece

@EKons hence pure mango juice being overkill

@Tinkeringbell Not fair that women can carry things there and men have no equivalent. :P

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Eat a lot, get manboobs, wear a bra too... :P

@EKons hmm? What you mean?
Price?

oh yeah how didn't I think of diabetes nice solution 10/10

12:35 PM
@Tinkeringbell I have manboobs, but no bra. :D

@Tinkeringbell I thought that was just a meme, I'd imagine carrying something in your bra would be like carrying something in your armpits: not very practical

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard multinational brands are more common I suppose

@Magisch Well, since I'm oversharing anyways... it works surprisingly well.

@EKons oh. Well, here it's about 50/50 I'd say.

Especially for smaller stuff, like cards or paper money

12:36 PM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard is there a "most common" cola drink, for example?
because in Greece we know "Coca Cola, Pepsi and the rest" :D

@Tinkeringbell How you prevent it from, well, getting your smell? :D
@EKons exactly same here.

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard You make sure you shower before going out? I dunno, I don't think smell is a large problem over here...

No local Cola brand, and Coca Cola got a local factory, so...

Well, on here, most common is: Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Pepsi, A&W Root Beer...

talking about cola drinks here

12:37 PM
@Tinkeringbell ohh.... it's never really hot at your place... </envy>

Aren't sprite and fanta part of the coca cola company?

so it would be "Coca Cola, Pepsi..."
@Tinkeringbell yes, but they're not cola drinks

Oh, if that's the case, then yes...
I mean, there's another local/imported cola, but I can't even remember its name...

@Tink wait... how you take money out of such a storage place in public?? lol
@MetaAndrewT. this one?
Or...
Kola Real ("Royal Cola" or "Real Cola") is a Peruvian soft drink. Kola Real is one of the most popular brands of Ajegroup, a leader in the Latin American beverage market. Started by the Añaños Family in Ayacucho, Peru on June 23, 1988 in the middle of a coup d'état, the company has grown and expanded not only in Peru, but also in Cuba, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Nicaragua, Panama and Thailand. Kola Real is available in many flavours such as "revolution red" (strawberry), orange, pineapple, lime-lemon, "negra" ("black", similar to Coca...
Though Peru is quite far away....

hm...
> Indonesia

12:43 PM
@EKons yeah see my first guess ;)
oh wait

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard lol, never seen that

> Ajegroup also has operations in Brazil,[4] Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nigeria, Guatemala, Honduras, India,[3] Indonesia, Thailand, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Egypt

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Discretely! :P
And now back to being PG rated, all of you! ;)

1:22 PM
looking at @Bart

Hey @Bart! Welcome back :)

1:39 PM
.. or not

1:51 PM
:[ ]:
Gone with the Bart

After several months of yelling, my solar company is finally getting around to installing them.

with Access...

I sincerely hope not.
Because that's a ton of warranty work they'll be doing.

2:22 PM
@fbueckert solar company? You mean cellular?
oh
Jun 7 at 17:38, by fbueckert
Also, solar panels are going up, so I'm hoping that wraps up today.
Are you going to sell the electricity they produce? Or is it for self use?

2:39 PM
@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Mostly self use.
Got a rebate on the cost, though, and the requirement for it is to sell it back to the power company.
As long they'll be reasonable about the price (ie. more or less what I pay for the same amount), no issues. If they aren't, I put a powerwall up and now I have no extra power for them.

3:29 PM
archive process meta.stackexchange.com/questions/329466/… @rene @Bart @Glorfindel
@fbueckert nice

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard I'm looking forward to it. I expect a rather nice check at the end for the amount of overpayment I've made.

Here it started with a big buzz but think bureaucracy killed it.
The forms to fill, taxes, etc. made it not worth the hassle.

Oh? Sorry, I'm not familiar with where you are.

@fbu and @fba hmm.... are you two brothers? :P
@fbueckert Israel

@ShadowTheCurlyBracedWizard Oh, neat. Great White North for me.

I'd been sitting on the fence for solar for a while; I don't understand all the terminology or math for energy.
So I struggled to make sense of feasibility and what it costs me.

@TimPost if you have some time, OP is looking for an official answer here regarding an Academic Honesty policy. (I don't know how religiously you read Meta, hope you don't mind the ping 🙂)

3 hours later…
6:53 PM
Does rep gain on SO count towards earning chat privileges on Chat.SE?

7:45 PM
@Stijn to be safe, link him to What is Meta ...
better be prepared.

8:26 PM
@rene Shame... That should've linked to a certain Disney song ;)

You mean Rick Astley ?

I think YouTube oneboxing was/is broken too, so I guess there's no better time to rickroll than now.

Voting to close as "no longer reproducible" since it was apparently linked to the Google outage.

8:38 PM
Meh. It doesn't need to be closed, it has an answer...

@SonictheBracketedHedgehog you're very bureaucratic
Which may or may not be a good thing

I can tell you many other users who are more so than I am.

I like to be one
I usually end up pragmatic though
