@MartinJames Man, I love Red Dwarf

2:07 AM
wew, morning
Heh.. now I see "new contributor" indicator more helpful on per-site meta than on main sites...

2:23 AM
it is really handy. I just wish it said "new to meta" or something like that.

4 hours later…
6:08 AM
I can't quite figure out how to downvote comments.
There only seems to be an upvote, but that isn't what I am looking for.

6:23 AM
Leave a -1 Bad comment comment ...

Oooh, that's thinking outside of the input box

6:41 AM
I click the flag icon, select "Something else", input "-1", then submit....
Because (I believe) downvote is always below upvote

@Somewhat Pretty sure that box should have a minimum content length?

Oh right, 6 characters. "-1 padding"

lol

Can someone please help me out? I thought I had created a room and invited Tim Post but I can't find the room, and Tim Post never replied to my request? Did I mess things up? Yeah, I'm not great on chat and how it works, so please forgive my dumbness.

@Mari-LouA did you create the room on chat.meta.stackexchange.com?

You can go to your chat profile, and see the rooms you're an owner of.

Ah wait, that's even a different room

9:45 AM
@Bart That looks like it's hosted on ELL? The one I linked is hosted on chat.meta ;) So there appear to be two rooms
(now you were faster :P)

@Bart Oh thanks. I didn't receive the notification for some reason.

1 hour later…
Ha, I knew it.... just now...

total votes: 5% is down ...
If you run into a down vote you must be very unlucky in the voting lottery ...

@rene I want to know those numbers, focused on only votes of those people that can both up and downvote :P
Oh cool. I can see downvotes there that are anonymous feedback? So e.g. the downvotes from people that downvoted, but aren't shown? That's cool!

@Tinkeringbell yes, but SEDE also has that data in its postfeedback table

@rene I haven't caught up with learning to use SEDE ;)

11:05 AM

So this link you sent is great. Now I have even less reason to figure it out :)

:(

hidden feature in the almost unnoticeable /tools page...

@rene I'll get to it someday. But I have soooo many other things I actually like to do :P SQL isn't high on that list.

user194636
😮

11:07 AM
priorities blah blah get them right blah blah blah

And just now, when I thought I could say "My code is compiling~~~~~~"... the OS crashed and I have to start over...

@rene Yeah, so that's a FAQ for IPS, two crochet blankets, a crochet turtle, a woven band, and then SQL :P

11:24 AM
interesting ;)
you anticipate on a very cold winter?
And you don't expect SQL will keep you warm?

11:44 AM
@rene Hahaha I need a blanket or two to sit under ;)
So yeah, I'm not expecting SQL to be super hot.

LOL

@Mari-LouA I replied in the room, it's something you'd need to contact support about

*tries doing something in SQL* *fails*

@Mithrandir ...story of my life...

12:01 PM
For some reason, adding a couple OR Text LIKE 'thing' seems to have broken the LEN(Text)<50.

@Mithrandir you want like '%thing%' ?
and probably some () ?

Are you getting a data conversion error?

@rene Context: Me, to take a poke at SQL, trying to create a query for auto-delete comments.

It's just strange that the syntax for SQL seems so simple, until you actually try to do something:(

  WHERE
    Text LIKE '+1%' OR Text LIKE '%accept%' OR Text LIKE 'thank%' AND
    LEN(Text)<50 AND
    [p1].[ClosedDate] IS NULL

12:04 PM
(Text LIKE '+1%' OR Text LIKE '%accept%' OR Text LIKE 'thank%') AND
notice the ( and the )

Hmm. That appears to have fixed it. Thanks. Now I can try adapting other queries, as SQL practice :D

While you're free to post here, let me also advertise the SEDE room: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/rooms/1223/data-explorer-sede

spam as flag

user194636
Be aware also that the SE database uses a case-sensitive collation, so 'accept' and 'Accept' are different.

i don't have plans to use it heavily enough that that'd be an issue - i'm not planning to delete all comments on a site - but thanks, i'll keep that in mind

12:11 PM
@PaulWhite yes, I experienced that: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/276221/…

Why not delete all comments on a site? Go for it!

You need someone/something with blue feet and ask to drop the table...

user194636
ha ha Taryn and I have discussed the merits of TRUNCATE TABLE dbo.Comments; many times 😃

user194636
@rene Yes having the db collation match that used for string columns would likely make sense. I don't know offhand if all string columns in the SO databases use the CS collation. Setting it for tempdb is a less clear-cut decision, since it affects queries for all database contexts that use table variables/tables. At least COLLATE DATABASE_DEFAULT would work, I suppose.

user194636
As I recall, the collation selection "seemed to make sense at the time".

user194636
12:26 PM
I am not aware of any database design awards bestowed upon SO/SE.

12:37 PM
@PaulWhite yeah. It Works™ and there where it doesn't workarounds exists...

1:02 PM
@AdamLear не могли бы Вы синкануть базу Transifex в продакшен? А то КМ наш, как я понял, в отпуске. А тут эти строки с новичковым контрибутором :)

1:22 PM
Language barrier between SE Devs and the Community solved: The devs only speak Russian

@rene this dev should know Russian.

I bet they do.
Don't migrate posts while rene is typing a comment ... ;)
flags comment of CM for plagiarism

2:19 PM
Okay, I saw "rene is typing..." above the comment box...

2:51 PM
@rene Not it?

Just migrate rene with any migrated posts. Problem solved.

shakes petals

3:26 PM
@alexolut Не проблема, done :)

3:40 PM
@AdamLear спасибо!

@AdamLear Without a Cyrillic keyboard, this is the closest I can get to replicating that text: He npo6תeMa

apparently DPO is "an upper management role"
so I'm now upper management :p

@Catija It looks like UT has eliminated their on-campus bandwidth restrictions and just decided to give everyone unlimited bandwidth

5:29 PM
@Magisch As long as that comes with an upper management paycheck, I wouldn't complain ;)

@Tinkeringbell does not so far

Okay, then start complaining ;)

Don't want to rock the boat so hard because I've been coming down like a ton of bricks for 2 months on management now

@Magisch Uhoh... And not about that paycheck I guess?

no
a whole lot of "you can't do that, nope not that either, especially not that, you need that, you also need that, no marketing can't do that, no you can't see or save that, no not that either"
and a bit of "I can't legally let you know who complained about that"

5:37 PM
Ugh.. I don't envy your job right now. Thought my managers were being difficult, but that's worse

It feels good to make a difference and stand up for people's rights though

That's true...

3 hours later…
9:08 PM
Forgot @Shadow above

9:56 PM
@rene I didn't either. It should really default to day to make the initial load faster

2 hours later…
11:44 PM
@Shog9 Is my edit and comment here correct?

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I doubt it

@Shog9 What's going on there?

"all missed badges" is probably true for stuff like Good Answer and such
but Yearling is a bit special

it's been a bit since I looked at the logic, but AFAIK you can NEVER be eligible for more than one per time the award script runs

11:46 PM
> If at any point you qualify for this year’s badge, you will receive all badges you had previously missed up until this year whenever the script runs again.
@Shog9 Well, then this part of the FAQ is incorrect

that's a bit of an ambiguous sentence to begin with

@Shog9 Please fix the FAQ, then
