How was my flag on this comment marked helpful but not deleted? I thought mods had to delete a comment in order to mark flags helpful. Was it deleted but later undeleted, or did an employee edit the database?
@Shog9 Was that you?

10:24 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I oppose calling them chaos emeralds
1. Due to my character, I prefer to refer to the dupehammer and gold badges as "Chaos Emeralds". If you don't like this, simply leave a comment and I'll change it if there are multiple users asking for it.
;p
"I don't like this"

@JourneymanGeek I thought you were referring to my feature idea itself.

@JourneymanGeek "if there are multiple users asking for it".

Other users who upvoted your comment may have thought the same.

10:26 AM
Well, I'm one of a few?

Why didn't you just say

@JourneymanGeek close requests are chaos emeralds. Open requests should be called "Sol Emeralds". And obviously rude flags are World Rings

"Let's talk about Sonic'06... oh, did I offend you?"

@hey Some of the best character quotes came out of that game.

10:30 AM
@hey Sonic 06 - Sonic desperate attempt to hide that Amy is his official girlfriend.

@Derpy How many times do I have to tell you...AMY ISN'T MY GIRLFRIEND!!!

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Hi, second user here, also asking for it
2 is multiple

hey
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog make it 3 then :)

People should just post "I don't like it" in the comments ;p

bamboozled again

10:38 AM
errr. You do realise I can see that's flagged right? ;p
and I am totally not dismissing it cause its a conflict of interest

@JourneymanGeek What's flagged?

Whoever flagged it will know

@JourneymanGeek star and flag are close to each other ...

@JourneymanGeek I know you're principled

What got flagged?

hey
10:39 AM
I'm powerless on Meta.Chat...

I don't know.
@rene But to flag, you have to dismiss a message box

hey
Was my Sonic'06 message flagged?
or Bamboozled? (this one might give misunderstanding when googling it and seeing the images of the movie with the same name)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog phase 1/2: Denial -Anger

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog sure, it is probably a deliberate act from someone who seriously hates Journeyman. There is no rationale.

hey
I'm an idiot. If Journeyman said not dismissing because of COI, then I guess I know which one was flagged...

@JourneymanGeek Your answer made a user think that user suspension questions are fine and are on-topic on meta. :|

12:05 PM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog idk that sounds like someone with a girlfriend named amy would say

I know about amy the hedgehog

> Amy is Sonic's self-appointed girlfriend. (from Brawl trophy description)
that said, at least the wikia does notice they flanderized her personality after Sonic CD

from the bottom part of the wiki they seem to be roommates(?) and she's calmed down a bit

@user5389107 Where does it say that?

12:14 PM
can't look rn but I remember from the last time it came up (a couple months ago)

@JourneymanGeek The Chaos Emeralds have been purged. Dr. Eggman's going to get me for this.

@NogShine hm? Where?

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog maybe Journey would prefer if we called the close vote request instead
optionally, I could also agree on

@NogShine I remember a big kerfuffle about several people expressing displeasure with the hinduism.se mods

12:19 PM
@Derpy hehe, I never played that game, my inspiration came from that BD :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blue_Lotus

is that drama still going on?

@user5389107 Yeah. Many people still do it but only few of them are because of moderation and majority is about personal views.

@yagmoth555 yep, I supposed so. I never expected you to have played the game, it's just that the picture looked similar :P

@user5389107 Yes. Jon started a discussion about it.
I hope there will be solution for all the drama finally.

hehehe

12:34 PM
@NogShine I'm confused. That's pretty much policy and I wouldn't even have stuck my nose in if not asked
I could just stay away from Hinduism meta.

@JourneymanGeek Well, it is not your fault. Don't misunderstand me. Other user misunderstood that suspension questions are fine. You did nothing wrong.
@JourneymanGeek Please don't. Continue to contribute on meta.
There's nothing wrong with you and your answer but it is from other side which misunderstood your answer.

oh, BTW. A friendly reminder. Monday was yesterday. A word to the wise, probably someone will indeed understand

@Catija I guess you're not aware of the naturally trollish nature of Evan Carroll. He's been doing that for years.
Most sites don't have much overlap with others. This is not useful and would require a major change to the UI to even implement as it would require choosing a specific site, not just an update to the text. xkcd.com/1425Catija 1 min ago
@Shadow No need for your subsequent comment either; I already pinged her here.

@Shog9 How is this guy not banned from answering? Last time he posted a well-received answer was way back in January 2013, and even then his record was not good.

formulating and translating data privacy statements makes me feel like I ought to have a lawyer do this instead

@user5389107 Anything in mind? I hope my innocent reminder above didn't actually remind you about something....

@Derpy no that's what I'm currently doing at work

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog There's also no need to accuse people of being trolls.

I'm a data protection officer (apparently)

1:36 PM
@Mithrandir I didn't say he was a troll. I'm just saying, his behavior is like a troll
Just because something's like something doesn't mean it is.
@Catija Have you ever tried Kerbey Lane's pancake mixes before?

@Mithrandir I fear that in this specific case, the accusation is based on empirical evidence. See the links I just posted, especially the second one which contains a screen of his candidature for the recent mod elections. I see only two option: either that was a bad joke - and that I do call "trollish behavior" , or just plain rude flamebait.

Calling people trolls, even if accurate, is not OK.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog No.

@Mithrandir I didn't say he was a troll. I'm just saying, his behavior is like a troll

Stop making excuses.
The implication is the same and it's still not nice.

May 2 at 12:46, by Tim Post
I don't think calling someone's behavior out as seeming trollish is against our policy. I feel like you're trolling here - that's actually feedback someone might use to dial their own stuff back a bit.
Tim seems to disagree

hey
1:46 PM
Whether in someone's eyes he is a troll or not, he's still actively contributing positively on some sites.

@user5389107 He's specifically talking about when talking to that person.
Posting it in chat where he's not around to see it isn't the same thing at all.

@Catija That was in response to my being concerned that maybe me calling someone a twitter troll in chat wasn't nice.

His response is specifically about talking to the other person, though.

If you feel that, can I enlist you to bin some messages from me?

@Catija then I shall ask you why you think that the term is used as an offense. I am not joking, as as far as I am concerned, "troll" seems to be used to describe "a way to act" and nothing more.

hey
1:48 PM
probably contributing more positively than the accuser

@Derpy Because, in general, people consider users acting as trolls to be a negative thing.
@user5389107 Sure. I might not be able to get to it immediately but I'll do what I can.

Look, let's agree to disagree. I'm just naïve in this regard.

Only if we agree to try to not use the word troll frivolous. I'm naive too.

@rene Technically, it wasn't the word "troll", it was the word "trollish". :)
(just kidding, obviously)

@Catija So is saying that the staff (forgive me for the quote) is a bunch of "dirty mean people". Should that be not called bad so that no one is offended?

hey
1:53 PM
Well, there's no troll in real life. Trolls only live inside fairy tale :(

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog obviously

@Derpy A lot of really rude stuff has been said about the staff on the site and in here and I'm not sure that we've decided how to respond to it at this point. I really don't like seeing people outright accusing the staff of things that I feel are unwarranted... But I also have to accept that not everyone shares the opinions that I do in that regard and that the staff are used to taking some amount of punishment. But I really, really don't like it... so take that into consideration.

hey
Love-hate relationship. 'Nuff said.

Not me at my most constructive, that was.

2:04 PM
@Derpy What would you call people that do not play fair?

@EvanCarroll Just what you just said - "people that do not play fair". Why did you need to call them "dirty" or "mean"? I mean, you may have your reason I won't question. It is just the way you expose them that seems far to much provocative.

hey
darn, this potato chips made my stomach ache...

Dirty literally means "not fair"
7. not fair or sportsmanlike; unscrupulous: a dirty fighter.
"mean" is because they target a single person -- namely me, and they're very open about it.

@EvanCarroll Consider the reaction though. Who are you appealing to with that statement? If you want to convince staff to introspect a nicer tone will be more conducive to that.

I'm appealing to the not-staff in an election about the staff's behavior being not-inclusive -- isn't that clear?

@EvanCarroll You have to understand too that the meaning you are pointing at is number 7, meaning that there are 6 other meanings for the word before that. If you put that line in the context it was - a joke "Trump-like" post "let's make SE great again" it should be easy to see why so many of us saw that as a rude attack instead of a fair remark.

You're assuming that others view, as you do, that Trump's criticisms of the press and news are "rude attacks" not fair remarks?

@EvanCarroll I wonder why you bother. Do you really think staff would let you run in an election with such an adversarial stance? You're basicly promising to dismantle the moderation structure, what makes you think they'd let you run or even if you won give you a diamond if you're diametrically opposed to their interests?
Or are you just grandstanding?

... or that somebody will vote for you

2:12 PM
Are elections not to let the people decide, and if they're to let the people decide is it not "dirty and mean" to underhand someone who takes the marketing at face value and tries to make a positive difference?

@EvanCarroll no, I am stating that even fair remarks can be expressed rudely.

@EvanCarroll I don't think you're unintelligent so I'm going to be blunt. What you're doing is just for attention and you know you would never get a diamond this way. Are you trying to generate outrage over staff rescinding your applications or do you enjoy burning CM time dealing with your frivolous nominations every time? At this point you know how it plays out, you've done it dozens of times. Why continue?
Stack exchange isn't a democracy, and "within reason" applies to everything we do here.

dirty can mean vile, sordid too, lets agree the word use was not the best. as a non english I would had never use that word there, as it got a strong negative stance around it

@user5389107 Obviously, I thought I could run and win. They, the cabal, thought the same thing -- that's why rather than letting me run this time they deleted my nomination and created a new rule against just me.
Thus "dirty and mean"

@EvanCarroll Because you're making a mockery of the whole system.

2:19 PM
Though, not the first definition -- obviously. No one is alleging that the staff are literally soiled with dirt; foul; unclean (just to clear that up from @Derpy, I wasn't using the most common definition)

Community moderators are supposed to be elected to enforce the rules and guide lightly but firmly with their judgement. They are not policymakers, at least not an instance of authority in that matter. What you did was basicly say "Hey this election for a position of considerable integrity and difficulty you're holding? Let me meme all over it and insult staff in an attempt to discredit the process"

@user5389107 The system is already a mockery -- as you've agreed. I'm running to make it a legitimate accountable governing system of the users, by the users.

Staff isn't obligated to put up with your attempt at a coup of stack exchange and they've shown you that.
@EvanCarroll That's not what it is and it's nobody's place but staff's to decide what it is to begin with
This is a for profit website run by a for profit company in the way they please. They like our input, but aren't bound by it.

Ok folks. Not quite I want to walk into after work.

Ok, so you have a different understanding of "moderators" and "staff". Hopefully you got your answer.

Q: If the human body consists of 60% water why can't we put out fire with our body?

ArnavTI have often heard of people being burned at the stake, but if the body is 60% water shouldn't the fire just be put out?

4:17 PM
@TravisJ Hey! So thanks for taking the time, I put some more thought on that. I think I start to see how I could indeed be more explicit about how people can improve their question instead of a generic "show your problem", I would still like to point that in this specific case, that question was a list of one requirement. Mea culpa, I assumed that OP did not, indeed, try anything and that merely asking about "the problem" would make them realize that they had nothing to answer.
Which is generally my take when commenting to people on main or in chat, I'm more of a "let's get op's to think". Getting them in a position to realize the discrepency between responding to a request "what is your problem" and not having tried anything, seems to me like a valid approach to learning
