meta.stackexchange.com/q/49705/357396 How can a deleted user still have a name ?
Oh! migrated

@NogShine no it wasn't migrated
@NogShine in the past when deleting account, name wasn't anonymized in posts
So we see the last display name that was in use.
To this day it's still not anonymized everywhere, e.g. name still visible in close/delete banners.
So if one ever closed/deleted questions, their name will forever be there even long after they deleted their account.

Q: Further anonymize deleted accounts by changing the username in close/delete notices

yannisWhen an account is deleted, the username in the user's posts and comments is changed to a generic user<userID>. But the username stays the same on close and delete notifications on posts the user had voted to close / delete1. I think it shouldn't, especially for users who used their real name as ...

11:38 AM
It happens on deleted questions and some comments too. See this Where can I ask questions regarding Unix programming? and a comment under the answer It is now deleted but here's an image. — Nog Shine Dec 9 '17 at 5:29

@NogShine in the past when deleting account, name wasn't anonymized in posts
add "and comments" ^
:)
They probably did it silently without any notice, like many small (and not so small) changes.
If you can find new-ish case (probably 2012+) I'll try to look further into it.

I know a case where the name on questions is anonymized but the name in close vote banner is not. Besides, the name is not the recent name.
Is that a bug? Should I ask it on per site meta or main?

11:57 AM
I don't think it's a bug, but if you want to make sure and ask, it belongs to the main meta.

I will ask as a support.
I am more concerned with the user name. It is not updated.
The user had a different name when they left the site.

@NogShine how you know for sure? Maybe they changed right before deleting the account?
Only mod can know for sure.
The system won't just take a name in random and assign it.

If the account is deleted, a mod can't check.

Is it something offending or being abusable?

@Mithrandir no name history for deleted accounts? Well, so only CM can.
Or Shog with his access to magic tools... ;)

1 hour later…
1:21 PM
@ShadowWizard I am 100% sure they didn't change. Other names on network are also updated.

Well, feel free to ask, hopefully someone will give official answer.

I also know because there are comments by them just before the account was deleted.

A: Accessing main arguments outside of main on Linux

riciYou can do this by putting the constructor in the .init_array section. Functions in the .init_array (unlike .init) are called with the same arguments main will be called with: argc, argv and env. Here's a simple example. I used LD_PRELOAD simply to avoid complicating the example with code which ...

Q: Is there an option to turn off the Community Bulletin? (Or, could it be added?)

FattieFor me this area, red box: is completely annoying and pointless. Is there an option to turn it off? If not, should you dudes add such an option? Note - I'm not, in any way, opposed to SO monetizing. Actually if that was an ad it would be less annoying, strangely enough. A great way to thi...

is there a query to find how many questions a user closed?

The community bot should know, no?

How?

1:32 PM
What is the "community bot"??
Did I miss so much in the last weeks while I wasn't active here?

community user is other wise called community bot

oh
It's neither a bot nor a boy.

IT'S A GIRL

It's just.... a line of code somewhere. ;)
hmm... googling

@ShadowWizard sure they can
13+

1:37 PM
That's not inclusive, @Shadow!

oh I was wrong. :(
> The definition of girl is a female under aged 18
Still, doubt SE hires teenager developers....
(regardless of gender)

My daughter would have slapped her flip flops just into your braze face!

@Mithrandir not anymore. 16+ these crazy days
Would probably become 18+ in few years.
EU will want to protect its precious teenagers from the horrors of the internet, so all sites will be forbidden to service anyone who is under 18.

A: Brace yourselves: The GDPR is coming!

Mithrandir Our goals in this update are to ensure we're fully GDPR-compliant, that the rights and protections afforded by the GDPR are extended to all of our users, regardless of location How does this apply to underage users? According to GDPR, a user has to be at least 16. Is this going to apply to u...

13 other than the EU still

@Mithrandir mark my words, the rest of the (western) world will follow the EU on these things.

1:42 PM
16 in the EU, 13 is a reasonable limit elsewhere.
I'd not deny my lil' princess to attend to anything she want's to have a vote for.

The only good thing coming from GDPR so far is gigantic lawsuits against Facebook. Not that it will do any harm, Facebook are too big to care, but still.... feels good to see them taking hits.

Mr. Zuck is in big trouble ...

llooool
No he's not.

@πάνταῥεῖ eh.. there's little need to mention age on SE tho

He can keep smiling, nothing can stop Facebook.

1:45 PM
Windows is a similar story, kinda

Facebook can put huge red blinking banner WE ARE SELLING YOUR PRIVATE DATA TO ANYONE WHO PAYS US ENOUGH MONEY, and still people will keep using it. That's what makes me really mad and sad.
This way at least they'll finally be honest. :D
Oh BTW, I finally deleted my Facebook account. Feels good.

@ShadowWizard I deleted mine around 2010 when they originally made it so you couldn't limit your visibility to just 'friends'

@Mgetz you couldn't? Pretty sure my own profile was limited only to Friends (and Friends of Friends, but not public) unless you mean finding your name only?

@ShadowWizard so you used to be able to block friends of friends too

This doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that they keep lying about those things and use the private data for evil things like affecting elections worldwide.

1:58 PM
@ShadowWizard I'd be more bothered about them as a company if they did it deliberately. But they didn't that said I won't participate

Those are the bad things described in science fiction books in the past.

It's going to get worse not better, data driven nominations to various posts is being used already

@Mgetz hmm, I just checked facebooks sign-up page, I have to indicate if I'm male of female. What purpose does that have? Send the better harassments to me?

@rene no idea, as I said... I quit ages ago

@rene it's a 1000% social network, makes sense they need to know your gender.
Keep in mind, Facebook started as a dating site, and dating still play major role there.
So they need to know what to suggest to who.

2:00 PM
@ShadowWizard No it didn't
I was literally one of the first accounts in 2005
it was basically a way to keep track of high school and college friends

@Mgetz pretty sure I read somewhere that Mark and his friends started this in the university to find girls.
Might have misread though...
Anyway, at least in Israel, lots of people use it for this very purpose these days.

@rene Lets them determine which pronouns to use for you

@ShadowWizard There was 'Facesmash' which was a proto-facebook, but didn't contribute to the final thing at all and was never part of the company today

proper pronouns ... yes, that is crucial ...

Also knowing gender is important for proper language in Hebrew, since there are many words which are different according to gender.

2:04 PM
I know I'm going to disappoint you but I don't speak Hebrew ...

correct!

2:24 PM
Let's Jahwe's babylonic curse be overcome as we invented google translate :3

The goal was to spread out the human population. That end has been achieved. There is no need to continue the means.

Regarding SE teams. Would this spread over various sites with a subscripton?

2:57 PM
@JohnDvorak achieved? Not sure. Humanity is still trapped on a single rock, crowded, slowly but surely killing that rock, and each other.

@πάνταῥεῖ at the moment its all on SO

@ShadowWizard Are you suggesting we need more motivation? :P

@ShadowWizard we can talk to each other, but we still might not understand

@JourneymanGeek Well, adding IPS with it sounds reasonable.

@πάνταῥεῖ I don't think there's any plans for broader adoption of teams
@πάνταῥεῖ eh, pretty unlikely

2:59 PM
Just like in business :-P

@JohnDvorak yup. Alien attack would be a good start. ;)

Wiping out mankind is on the roadmap

@JohnDvorak nah, not wipe... just teach us the hard way how to behave.

@JohnDvorak I spot some people who are seemingly after it.

@ShadowWizard Yeah, that's exactly what I meant ;)

hey
3:01 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ I even believe you can actually buy SO Teams for Code Review, Selling Soda, or anything...
It's like Careers, where they can spam advertise recruit someone for online gambling site...

This reminds me, who pays for the SOCVR team?

@rene of course!

@rene is a rich flower, no doubt.

hey
they didn't get it free?

and generous.
@hey I think there's no free tier.

hey
3:07 PM
Open-source like Charcoal and SObotics got it free

oh, nice

@rene == Kinda dutch baron

@ShadowWizard we don't have a team. We are transparent.

hey
So... I just got a Privacy Policy re: GDPR email from Freelancer.com... on May 27?

3:18 PM
What about it? Everyone sent something recently.

hey
GDPR has been in effect since May 25, so notifying users later than that seems... questionable.

@hey better late than never...
They probably didn't make it in time, e.g. didn't believe it's really going to happen.

@ShadowWizard They didn't believe that a law that was passed 2 years ago was going to be active at the date mentioned?

3:37 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ I wonder if a hand-drawn red circle would have saved some downvotes.

hey
Heh... Fattie... that user...

Q: Should a custom flag be used instead of the "not an answer" flag when the answer isn't a blatant non-answer?

Sonic the Inclusive HedgehogThere appears to be a bit of a dispute going on in the FAQ answer here. On one hand, a group mostly consisting of Stack Overflow moderators says that if it isn't immediately clear that an answer isn't an answer just by briefly glancing at it, the standard "not an answer" flag shouldn't be raised ...
