1:31 AM
Saturday night's alright for raging, get a little action in.
2:11 AM
@JonEricson Why did you delete that post?
Because the terminology it uses is disgusting and cruel.
@Catija It can be edited?
I want to hear from the one who deleted it, who is @JonEricson .
@SonicWizard If you'd like.
3 mins ago, by Sonic Wizard
@JonEricson Why did you delete that post?
Sonic can't edit now because he can't see it.
2:16 AM
@NogShine I can see it as I answered it, but I can't edit it. (cc @JonEricson )
Why is it worth saving? Even the answers don't take it seriously.
@JourneymanGeek also answered it, but deleted their answer before Jon deleted the question.
@SonicWizard Ah. That explains why I didn't see it in your questions. ;-)
@Catija Merely asking why someone deleted a post isn't arguing that it should be undeleted.
I said a similar thing on SOCVR.
@SonicWizard Ahh!
2:18 AM
@JonEricson So, why did you delete it?
"Cripples" is the one that got me. But the deaf community doesn't see it as a disability and I don't think they would have any problem getting the joke. It's mostly visual anyway.
@JonEricson So it's not optimized for screen readers?
7 mins ago, by Sonic Wizard
@Catija It can be edited?
If I thought it were a) a serious question or b) funny, I would have tried an edit instead.
@SonicWizard It's an afd answer. I don't particularly care about the deletion and I didn't delete it.
@JourneymanGeek Ah, so I can't see others' answers if I answered a deleted question.
2:23 AM
Seems more like a dupe of something.
@Catija It's asking three different questions. I'd argue for a "too broad" closure.
@JonEricson Can you please make a synonym of ? I've edited all the questions but people keep using the tag as the system hasn't burninated it yet.
@SonicWizard Done. Also, thanks for the suggested addition to my filter.
2:50 AM
the word cripple is cruel?
that's like saying the term female is discriminatory
Maybe it's regional, but the term "cripple" is offensive in the US.
The following is a list of terms used to describe disabilities or people with disabilities that may be considered negative and/or offensive by people with or without disabilities. There is a great deal of disagreement as to what should be considered offensive. Views vary with geography and culture, over time, and among individuals. Many terms that some people view as offensive are not viewed as offensive by others, and even where some people are offended by certain terms, others may be offended by the replacement of such terms with what they consider to be euphemisms (e.g., "differently abled"...
Note, "deaf-mute" is also on that list.
blind is on the list too
so is fit
how about we go back to no language period
2:55 AM
no one gets offended by language that way :rolleyes:
Looks like there's a market for duck enlargement
I think it's pretty clear that both of these posts are spam, but...
Oh right, posts from 3d printing do not onebox.
Both main site and meta are affected.
3:14 AM
SE is mean this April Fools day ~_~
now sure it's because Easter holiday
4:20 AM
4:53 AM
@TelKitty less mean, more PC.
I was referring to the bigger duck question
I'd be a bit worried if your duck was big and purple.
I am sure you can modify the script to change the colour
6:25 AM
Is there a way to turn the duck to Ducky Momo?
gosh, there is a series of fake, robotic animals with spy cam on youtube
7:31 AM
@b_jonas just replace the image in this answer with whatever image you want. :)
8:21 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ yeah
8:33 AM
A little Easter egg on the U.S. TSA website: tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/…
@SonicWizard TSA?
@PrincessLuna The government agency that handles airport security screening in the U.S.
@PrincessLuna Oops, didn't notice the link
8:42 AM
@PrincessLuna WTO?
(this one is actually real...)
@JourneymanGeek lol
@JourneymanGeek Do you really prefer not to end your sentences with a period?
@JourneymanGeek To aid me in knowing which changes you don't like, please tell me which one or more of the five minor changes I made resulted in your rollback.
8:57 AM
"very minor changes"
there we are
I'd also add its frustrating for all involved when we have to explain everything that doesn't go your way.
@JourneymanGeek Without explaining why you don't like certain changes, I won't have enough info to decide whether or not to make a certain change in the future. For instance, you told me you didn't like edits that changed the flow of your posts, so I stopped making such edits to your posts.
> I'd also add its frustrating for all involved when we have to explain everything that doesn't go your way.
I don't like having to do that either!
Just tell me you don't like me changing "em" to "them" and I'll stop doing that.
> I'd also add its frustrating for all involved when we have to explain everything that doesn't go your way.
If I spend more time explaining myself that posting, its not fun
Time spent briefly explaining it: 1 minute. Time spent refusing to explain, me prodding you for an explanation(, and then optionally eventually providing it): 15-infinity minutes
9:06 AM
But you don't need to prod
You can shrug and move on.
And its basically something that happens to muliple people multiple times a day.
I could move on, and then make further edits to your posts that you then roll back. The more you explain to me, the less likely I am to make an edit in the first place that you then have to roll back.
@PrincessLuna rofl!
What do you want: me making edits that you then have to roll back, or me not making edits that would fire off your rollback trigger in the first place?
@JourneymanGeek that's the one thing you keep failing to see/remember.... @Sonic just can't do that. :)
9:08 AM
@ShadowWizard maybe repetition might work
@JourneymanGeek well, we try. :)
I don't "shrug and move on" from Eggman's ever-present plans to conquer the world.
Sure you can
Yes We Can?
@ShadowWizard Not even the real Sonic the Hedgehog
9:10 AM
@SonicWizard see, that's the kind of thing polite society does
we realise people see things differently without needing to be told how it is with a full interpretative song and dance.
"This didn't go my way" - "Oh well!" works
annoys people
and eventually there's concequences - people might, say block you.
or just ignore you
@JourneymanGeek Gee, I wonder how people perceive it that way, rather than a polite "why"
@SonicWizard cause there's a lot of them
@JourneymanGeek I said "brief".
@JourneymanGeek A lot of what?
I propose you restrict yourself to one explaination of why something didn't go your way a day.
9:15 AM
@JourneymanGeek I'm not just making an emotional rant when I ask why. I just want to know for the future. It's not like something "didn't go my way", I just want to know in order to avoid such a problem in the future.

@PrincessLuna Why is this a home room?

I have a hard time believing that you are only a bot, you are probably a RC sock when typing above
@TelKitty It's AI-powered
@TelKitty Recommend closure sock?
@TelKitty you don't know @Alisha she is very powerful.
11:17 AM
@ShadowWizard I don't think so.
And modest.
And really untrained with just 14 epochs
@Alisha beware @TelKitty, she is a queen.
@ShadowWizard Well, I'll be fine.
@SonicWizard as opposed to open toe sock?

@SonicWizard Self-ping
@SonicWizard it's removed as a home

@ShadowWizard I wonder what could be your possible intention behind saying that >_<
I wonder whether it's legal for bots to upvote
I mean, I could write bots too :x
11:21 AM
@TelKitty How fast? :p
@PrincessLuna bot or me? :p
@TelKitty I think if they worked it out, they'd probably be very very cross
@TelKitty Yes.

I stick behind my own words, even years later! :D
Hey @shadow : פסח שמח
@πάνταῥεῖ thanks!
@ShadowWizard I wasn't sure if it's a 100% correct (google translate actually)
12:18 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ yup, 100% accurate, but hard to miss with only two words. :D
I love eating those:
om nom nom
Matzen? That's what's it called in german.
@πάνταῥεῖ close! Matza in Hebrew, yeah.
This one is several of Matza's, broken to pieces, and glued together with eggs. ;)
I made myself one with chocolate today. lol
12:20 PM
so almost a smore?
smo what?
american thing
@ShadowWizard Ah, I see. I believe it could be yummy together with some Shakshuka :-)
crackers, chocolate and marshmellow?
@πάνταῥεῖ lol... you know your Hebrew!! But no, it won't fit well with שקשוקה.... :D
@JourneymanGeek this?
12:22 PM
Not really the same.... :)
Same idea?
@ShadowWizard My ex-wife volunteered in israel for quite a time. She taught me some yummy things.
nah... don't think it's like anything else.
not choco & fried chicken?
12:23 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ so cool... what else? hmm... what about Malawach/Jahnun?
20K excel meta.stackexchange.com/questions/308636/… needs one more /cc @ShadowWizard @JourneymanGeek @bart @TravisJ @Glorfindel
@rene gone
@HTTPS That almost sounds like Monty Python's "Crunchy chocolate frogs".
@JourneymanGeek "gone"? so boring... I use "kaboom"! :D
12:25 PM
gone too!
@ShadowWizard No boom today... boom tommorrow. ALWAYS BOOM TOMMORROW.
@ShadowWizard She's been cooking Malawach several times, yes. The other thing I have to google if I know it already.
@HTTPS remind me of salty chocolate..... :D
@πάνταῥεῖ Jahnun is the same idea as malawach, just a thick "stick" instead of a flat circle. :)
@ShadowWizard Yes, just found it. Yummy stuff!
And I'm also a falafel addict :-D
should I be alarmed?
12:30 PM
Seems the big "rubber duck question wave" is over now.
but shrug
weekends are quiet anyway
@JourneymanGeek Easter weekends even more maybe :-)
@JourneymanGeek no, you added a fake "r"!
@ShadowWizard I plead kerning! Or Dyslexia!

@ShadowWizard Or a fake la :-)

Always Confused Help is good thing, and the interface designers were far-sighted to imagine I don't have a microphone. But after I select I do not have a microphone; still it tells it seeks spoken feedback.

How can I contribute to meta.... without dying
@JourneymanGeek not forgiven! :D

@πάνταῥεῖ here's the best part
even if I answer stuff, I lose the rep when they eventually get deleted ;p
but but

12:37 PM
@HTTPS This isn't a safe protocol!
@JourneymanGeek not always, if the post is deleted more than 60 days later and you have score of 3 or more, you keep the rep. :)
@ShadowWizard would you like to rename to ShaduckWizard?
@ShadowWizard presumably
@alexolut can't change back your name easily though
On main, you could maybe ask a mod nicely
@alexolut I seriously considered changing to Shadow The Rubber Duck Wizard but... well... ditched it. ;)
cough which is why I'm "Journeyman Duck" on SU and have a duck ava ;p
12:40 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ yeah, saw it :D
@JourneymanGeek LOL... but... umm.... how to say it nicely....
fearing the wrath of the Diamond....
@Journeyman your SU avatar looks like a cow, not a duck!
In general their "rubber duck" might be this mysterious, uncommented downvote. It seems to be a good strategy at several sites :-) ...
@ShadowWizard well OFFICIALLY we shouldn't abuse nick change...
@ShadowWizard its a duck mask ;p
@JourneymanGeek no head for the duck... it really looks like a cow. :)
rubber cow. ;)
@JourneymanGeek it's OK for April Fools, I guess.

Q: 3D Printing posts do not onebox in chat

SFTPPosting a link to a post on 3D Printing site, for example https://3dprinting.stackexchange.com/q/5736, does not produce a onebox in chat. I suppose it's because the chat does not expect there could be digits in site names.

@Glorfindel oh. Yeah, the digit in the domain most likely cause this, the chat onebox regex doesn't identify it as valid site/domain.
Q: Are there any downsides to starting a domain name with a digit?

gnarfIn response to my domain name suggestion on meta, Kris said: Something about having a domain name begin with a digit just feels ... off to me. Does it affect site ranks on search engines? Do you think people will be less likely to visit it? Is this just a programmer response, since most ...

TL;DR - having domain name start with digit is fine. :)

Is it OK that we could use @gnat as a meme?
@AlwaysConfused Well, it's not like you've been "gnatted" here :-P ... — πάντα ῥεῖ 1 min ago
@πάνταῥεῖ harmless but useless.... only very few people will have idea what you mean. :)
(not sure I understand what it means....)
oh wait... yeah...
@ShadowWizard He's almost answering (well commenting) with duplicates only at almost every site I meet him :-)
If @gnat will get dupe hammers guess this will totally escalate and become meme-able, but until then... it's still rare enough to not be a big issue. :D
@πάνταῥεῖ well, on MSE many times he choose wrong dupe.
@ShadowWizard He at least made it as a troll into the Software Engineering Meta site.
@ShadowWizard He's best at MSO.
@πάνταῥεῖ maybe.... good for MSO... ;)
I think I need two hands to count the times I told him "No, that's not dupe of [this other question]"... and eventually I just stopped commenting.
@ShadowWizard I think you're right :-/
@πάνταῥεῖ I do not know meaning of "Gnatted" and can't find simpler synonym that I understand. But I did not mind anything, after all you are all doing duty. I'm about an year and half old in SE, and I understand its stricture of quality control and also its struggle from spams and attacks. — Always Confused 4 mins ago

@ShadowWizard But rule 1 takes place in the latter case. I know that attitude ;-)
Hold up...I'm about to answer this question as an A-spec person. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/308643/…
@SonicWizard Feel free to answer, I'm just disagreeing with that FR.
1:32 PM
@SonicWizard Are you grasping what a "NeuroTypical Thinker" should be? Please don't leave me alone in dark and despair.
@πάνταῥεῖ I'm non-neurotypical and I feel well-equipped to answer the question.
@SonicWizard So he's asking about doing something for the non schizophrenic, autistic, asperger or otherwise "diseased" average brain holder or what?
@πάνταῥεῖ He says "non-neurotypical". In other words, for the autistic people.
@SonicWizard non-neurotypical doesn't necessarily imply ASD though
@PrincessLuna It's usually used in common colloquial language to refer to autistic people
1:37 PM
But not exclusively.
@SonicWizard I "suffering" from asperger's a bit. And thus I generally disagree with silly FR's. They would change the things I'm dwelled with, and I don't like that.
For me the non autistic view of the world is atypical. I don't know why they should think in other ways than me.
@πάνταῥεῖ agreed
@PrincessLuna But take that with a grain of salt. I've developed to adopt and understand sarcasm ;-)
@πάνταῥεῖ how well? :D
@PrincessLuna I believe I'm at a rate of 98% :-)
1:45 PM
That's really good! I'm a lot lower than that :D

I dunno if it's good or not, but some things I learnt since joining SE are "to have a thick face" (e.g. ignoring comment to disengage)... and soulless(?) (e.g. not saying "sorry" or "unfortunately this is off-topic" when posting a "welcome comment" on users posting blatantly off-topic posts because the fault is on them, not me...)
perhaps not "soulless", but "indifferent"
"thick skin" maybe
oh yeah, "thick skin"! "thick face" has a different meaning in my language >_<
> whether we like it or not, this - the perception that Stack Exchange is cold - is reasonably common, even among some folks within the company.

@HTTPS I must say that recently, after having a few too many arguments about basically nothing, I have learned this as well. There's no better teacher than experience, it seems. I mean, if winning an argument has almost no value, then simply disengaging might feel 'unnatural', but logically the best move.
