^ Have you noticed how the knitting doesn't match a nice pixel grid, just to make it more difficult to fake a knitted image?
Image source is my old photo photo.meta.stackexchange.com/a/5698/14253
You'd probably have to mess with javascript to make one that looks realistic
Hmm, I wonder which SE site I could ask on about how to create a knitting image.
StackApps?
No. Probably here on Meta is best.

@b_jonas I thought it was a flower, wouldn't have guessed it is a domino tower. That's a reasonably good result. I don't have the benefit of a computer and have to do them on my phone.

2:23 AM
@Rob I just realized how to create them without them looking fake. There's an "upload" link in the knitting UI that does all the work for you.

Rob
@b_jonas I thought you had read the thread, your result is that good. This is the current state of the art - a clip from Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

It seems strange that nobody has knitted a Rainbow Dash yet. The canvas has the shape of a cloud, and the color palette is suitable to represent all her colors.
I hope someone will fix that soon.

@ArtOfCode (2/2) Likewise, if someone wants to ask for hardware recommendations, it shouldn't matter that hardware recommendations doesn't want bad questions coming from SO... because it won't be a Q from SO, it will just be a Q asked on Hardware Recs. If it's low quality, then that's Hardware Recs' problem now. The whole argument of "we don't want crap migrated" becomes moot because it won't be migrated anymore, it will originate on the site it was meant to belong on all along. — TylerH 2 days ago
Has a point. No free shit shoveling.

10:22 AM
Hi, I have a question, when I see posts on MSE where a new status-tag needs to be applied, shall I flag them or ask here in chat?

@MEE quite honestly - we're not totally sure how that's handled.
flagging them is better but for most parts I think we're leaving it for a dev or CM, rather than a community mod, simply cause we don't have the visibility to know if something is status completed.

MEE
@JourneymanGeek well I once flagged a question about the image uploader (issue was that there was no link input) and I wasn't sure whether this is acceptable practice therefore I asked here.

that's fine

MEE
So I would only do it if I am absolutely sure it is intentionally resolved (like in this case)

Just expect to wait 6-8 weeks, rather than 6-8 hours XD
bringing it up on chat should/would have limited use though

MEE
10:27 AM
Ok, One other thing, this post has status-planned for the first point which has been resolved (larger search bar) but I can't edit it as the master post is locked. One needs full editing privs for this. I originally flagged but then I thought it might be non-obvious why I flagged it and retracted my flag and started this converation.

Oh that one is certainly one for the folks who work here
presumably a PM

@JourneymanGeek well, sometimes it's obvious, so "even" you or @Tink can add the tag. :)

@ShadowWizard oh, this is a ongoing conversation
we're still figuring out a lot of the mechanics

So no point to flag until this is resolved? @Journeyman
(in 6-8 months)

MEE
Well I think (theoretically) this could be changed by anyone with full editing privs but @JourneymanGeek is probably right and this should be left to some staff...
and flagged... (again, this time with better explanation why mod intervention is neccessary)

10:42 AM
@ShadowWizard eh. Staff monitor flags and they handle them too
They're just not something us mods can always handle

@MEE no, only mods can add/remove mod-only tags.
@JourneymanGeek umm.... no? I told this before many times... my flags sat for months without anything happening. Might be just me, but it doesn't really matter for me.
I just stopped flagging. :)

MEE
@ShadowWizard normally yes, but my link is to an answer where the status-tag is added by the [meta-tag:status-planned] notation. Theoretically anyone could (suggest a/make a) change to it but the question is locked and therefore only users with full editing privs can do so.

And now that I understand the new mods were elected only to remove off topic questions and occasional spammers, well... guess no point to start flagging again. (Except maybe to purge comments when needed sometimes.)
@MEE what question? Why is it locked?

@ShadowWizard Nah, that's kinda wrong. Do flag. We need to know the kinds of stuff we can run into and figure things out ;) Having no flags doesn't help that.

MEE
@ShadowWizard [this one](https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/310908/live-left-nav-new-theming-and-responsiveness/310911#310911)

> This post is now locked due to a lot of off-topic or very tangentially related issues being posted here. It's so large that it is pretty hard to find/triage issues listed. If you have a concern related to left nav, theming and/or responsiveness, then I'd encourage you to post them as a question on MSE or on the meta of the specific site you're concerned with.
And this is why I can't edit it: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/302550/…

11:05 AM
@MEE I was personally waiting if there would be an answer here before retagging that... :P

11:35 AM
@ShadowWizard more that there's a learning curve and we are still working on how to handle the more unique aspects of meta

^ Which is about everything except deleting comments for me :P

@JourneymanGeek but learning from whom? Based on what? It's unique position, and I doubt the CM team got much time on their plate for such things. (i.e. that's why I'm not very optimistic about it.)

@ShadowWizard well a lot of moderation is the soft skills

Just screw up 6 to 8 flags and you'll get the hang of it ...

So literally working out the best way to handle things
@rene that's part of it. Flag handling is the easiest part of moderation.

11:49 AM
I'll do a mod-abuse post on MSE soon-ish, just for practice
Maybe it is a bit weird that I'm going to complain about marked helpful flags... They considered this a good flag! Horror ...

Working out when not to handle flags is harder, as is, well the soft skills of moderation :p
Well getting a mod abuse post on MSE is a sign you are a real mod

@andmyself huh? What about it?

@JourneymanGeek could you (or another moderator) help me with testing something?
(doesn't need to be a Meta mod; in fact, it wouldn't work on Meta)

@Glorfindel Still need one?

@Tinkeringbell yep, let's do it on IPS then. I'm going to flag a post of yours for moderator attention, and then delete the account. I want to know if the flag still remains.
OK with you?

Sure :)

@Glorfindel why not? It's not a vote.
I think.

@Tinkeringbell thx. I flagged this post: interpersonal.stackexchange.com/a/3100/23251 and have already deleted the account.

@Glorfindel Got assigned to community:

great, thx

heh, nice. As expected though.

wait, shouldn't it be assigned to user-----?

3:29 PM
@EKons no, the flag is actually being "assigned" to community user in the db

@EKons Nope. Only posts get that.

but... I feel like it would be nicer to have it be like that

It's just matter of display anyway

I don't mind having stuff on Community user.
There's not much difference between a 'user....' and Community, so for me it doesn't matter.

woke up from a dream where I upvoted... something...

3:43 PM
lol

heh... weird... I also saw you upvoting something in that dream

If people really want to upvote stuff that much, I have a knitting post somewhere that can always use more upvotes :D

Rob
4:14 PM
@Tinkeringbell - I don't know if that's a coincidence or not, I'm not opposed to more votes for my knitting but I've scored almost a thousand Rep this Bash and I can't even knit (IRL).

Ehh.. I added all the knitting to one answer. So it's about 5-600 rep there.

looks like you're still running around while chatting on the Tavern at the same time...

just got back lol

5:22 PM
what broke down? Systems? A network? Software? A coffee-machine? Co-worker?

@rene ... yes...

you say stupid, I say accurate :P

@VerNick Welcome to Meta.

Heh, reputation is nothing for SE staff :)

@Alex I've been here long enough not to be welcomed to Meta :)

but at least, I'm not even sure the suggestion about SO is even close (what do you mean by "how do they program this"? the layout? using the API? collecting data and doing weather forecast?)

6:26 PM
@VerNick I didn't mean to actually welcome you; I meant welcome to the fact that on Meta votes do not necessarily correlate with content in the way that they do (or should) on regular sites.

@VerNick WELCOME TO METAAAA!

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ THANK YOUUUUU!

6:43 PM
why do my answers get downvoted

@Asadefa see above
More seriously though, meta is tricky
@VerNick I actually think that in your case - Ruben's comments kinda cover it pretty well

@Tink oh hey you managed it! you answered a question!

Yay! :D I did it :P
Aren't you going to tell me this one is wrong too? :P

@JourneymanGeek Why? Because he has more reputation?

@VerNick no, cause its correct

6:49 PM
@Tinkeringbell I was going to post that too... ;)

@JourneymanGeek Mine correct too! He just stole information from my answer!

because it really is a question for webapps

Why?

see RFHC
cause the answer is in said webapp itself

The question author was going to ask was "Do they collect data from satellites ?"
What is a reference to ES.
Isn't it?

6:52 PM
eh, I think the focus is more on google weather

Your SE sites are really strange.

Meta is... unusual in most respects

Hi! I'm a bit confused about the auto-awarding of the bounty here. Shouldn't it have ideally gone the answer with having the highest number of upvotes? Or does it go to the answer with the least number of downvotes? (I don't have sufficient rep to see vote breakdowns) I'm not sure how the auto-awarding algorithm works and couldn't find any meta post which clearly explains it.

waffle

As far as I recall, bounties go to an answer posted after the bounty was put up?

That would only apply to automatic awarding though

it does
although there are some restrictions

7:12 PM
Manual awarding still allows awarding it to older questions
@VerNick wrong

@PrincessLuna Why?

> Otherwise, all or half of the bounty is awarded to the highest-scored answer out of those which...

...were posted after the bounty was started, and
...have a score of at least 2 (at the time the automatic awarding takes place), and
...were not written by the bounty starter.

The system awards bounties if there's one or more posts with 2 or more votes, or it's accepted

Well, there was a time that I didn't read something carefully...

user437611
It does seem logical. The usual assumption would be that the person who started the bounty, started it because the question didn't already have a satisfactory answer. But then there are exceptions to that --- like I know some people use bounties to reward existing answers (in that case they shouldn't forget to manually award it).

the "Reward existing answer" reason, namely

yeah, so if someone put a bounty for existing answer then forgot to award it manually...

By the way, how do you add the xkcd RSS feed, as in the Tavern? Does simply setting https://xkcd.com/rss.xml as the URL in the URL for this feed: section work? I tried it in a different chat room, and it appears like this:

I assume you can add name to the feed?

@Blue it is the same in my testing chat.stackoverflow.com/rooms/info/68414/…
@andmyself no, I expect it should take the title from the rss feed.

user437611
@andmyself I can add a name to the bot which posts the feed. Not sure if I can change the name of the feed source.

@rene yeah, that makes more sense
