I have a doubt. A user has posted an answer to a question and it is closed as dupe. Later he also posted an answer to the original question with some modifications. How should this be handled?

Can we flag for deletion of one of the answers?

if the questions are both precisely identical, deleting the dupe sounds reasonable, but this requires delete votes from multiple users with enough rep

maybe bring this up in the chat room for that site to hopefully reach a consensus with high-rep users

I asked the user to delete an answer on the duplicate and post it to the original. He didn't delete first one but wrote an answer to the original one.

The user himself is a high rep user. I personally feel this is rep farming.

The duplicate question also has got an upvoted and accepted answer.

dupes and dupe answers can continue to accrue votes, that's just how it is; if somebody votes on the dupe instead of the open one that's fine

voting on both is suspicious but it's hard to see how this could be used at scale to really abuse the system

but anyway, request a merge if you like

@SS hmm... my personal judgement says that it shouldn't be merged; a duplicate is the best way since the question is worded differently but has the same concept (I wouldn't guess if Gyaras is Ekadashi, that would make a good signpost). On the other hand, I'd give the benefit of the doubt that the answerer is not used to how SE in general works (from their profile, they only joined Area 51 and that site. There's a possibility that they hid another sites though).... [to be continued]

[continued] on this case, probably I'd comment on one of their answer to not answer a question that's actually duplicate, and to the extent of making a meta post about "close-voting duplicate questions instead of answering in general" (no need to point any user!) to increase the awareness of SE policy.

@Elias Yes, gyaras is same as ekadashi. That user is only active on one site. Yes, the answerer is not aware how SE works. I tried to explain him about these in chat but he said I was forcing other users to follow the rules and said "I am overwhelmed of rules" :D . And other users supported him. (They are also like the answerer) This time I linked MSE post coz he thinks I made up the rule.

Sometimes it's a rule/policy, sometimes it's just a guideline. Community may customize them to fit their culture (e.g. homework questions), but others like "Be Nice" or "Closing duplicate/off-topic question" are policy

There is only one sentence in the dupe which differs with the original. That can be added if the OP is active again or to the original. It is dupe.I have no doubts regarding that. It was hammered. The answerer said it is not a dupe but he didn't cast a reopen vote or comment it is not a dupe. He only questions and answers(even POB and dupes) and rarely participates in reviewing.

@Elias I am considering this one. But he is getting extra rep which he doesn't deserve, This is what bugging me.

@Elias Decided to use the 30 days trial of the antivirus before reinstalling the notebook clean. Configured McAffe, system reported as protected. Firewall status: ON. After about a week we discovered that the firewall that was turned "ON" was the windows firewall.

Basically, not only the "security suite" requires you to specifically install the firewall component from a somehow hidden interface (which will then download it from internet)... it also fails at informing you that you are using the built-in windows firewall
