30 minutes per moderator per day would be more than sufficient if every moderator actually spent 30 minutes per day handling flags. In practice, there are very few days where every moderator is active, and very few days where every moderator who is active spends 30 minutes handling flags - so a subset end up spending a lot more than 30 minutes to pick up the slack. — Shog9 ♦ 1 hour ago

Correct answer: ask Shog to add "what did you try" to the list that already contains "what have you tried".

The currently top-voted question (by rene, about comment flags) would be obsolete if Drop "not constructive", combine "noisy", reword "rude" and "other" comment flags was implemented. But we know how that goes.

user315433
I think simply dropping "not constructive" may be enough simplification...

does anyone here know about SEO and our site tags? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/298223/…

@Telkitty The rank is based on research metrics, so I dunno, maybe the US just does more research?

3:04 AM
@YvetteColomb if memory serves, titles make a much bigger difference than tags for search engine results. Hence the inclusion of the most popular tag in the title of the page.
I'd have to dig to find a reference there though, and it might be a bit archaic

user310756
also. @Shog9 there's this one meta.stackexchange.com/questions/207192/…

...you might ask on Webmasters...

user310756
@Shog9 yeh that makes sense when I'm searching google with the SO results

@YvetteColomb I highly doubt that they do.

user310756
@Shog9 which is not good

3:06 AM
That is not what synonyms are for

user310756

user202362
@YvetteColomb Whenever you come to H in that case? :p I can move things around to suit you. Let me know earlier though because I do have a few things to fix and may not be around everyday these two weeks.

user310756
it's ok for things that truly are synonyms

Synonyms are intended for terms that actually mean the same thing - a modern search engine will automatically include results for both with no work on our part.

user310756
3:08 AM
@Telkitty sure I'll be there on 30 mins :P but I go there all the time. As I mentioned my son lives there and I'm not far from there. We've moved my horses to a really nice place, that is more relaxed. You'll have to come there some time

user310756
@Shog9 yep I understand that. Which is why I'm bringing these issues up

user310756
I'm posting it on meta so we have some links to link into the satellite sites - an authoritative link so to speak

Good

user310756
3:10 AM
I think it's an important issue for Stack Exchange

user310756
as people are well intentioned, but we also need SEO

user310756
particularly when building small sites

user310756
so really tags have two purposes, one SEO - but that's only one tag - the most popular tag - the other is searching the site on the site

user202362
@bjb568 research metrics .. you mean the paper published ... in English?

user310756
@Shog9 we should only be editing the most popular tag out of titles if the title search is greater than the tag search

3:24 AM
@YvetteColomb Ideally, you avoid tags that can apply to any question. And then write very specific titles.
If, for example, the title is "Should I be concerned that one kitten bits another when it doesn't want to play?" then you hardly need tags as far as search is concerned.
OTOH, if the title is "are they fighting or playing?" then you're probably doomed.

user310756
so what about tag synonyms then? would cat and kitten be suitable synonyms? @Shog9

Can questions be migrated from other metas to this meta?
more accurately: the following question was discussed in the SF/F chatroom, and people considered it would be something worth asking on the general meta:
4
Q: How should we handle questions that have reference to assault, suicide and similar stress-inducing topics?

NzallThe person who asked HP Fan-fic where an Imperiused Dudley jumps off a building also included a link to Lifeline, the Australian nonprofit that provides support to people who are affected or have been affected by rape, assault, suicide and similar events that may or may not cause extreme distress...

and now we're figuring out if we can migrate it to the general meta

@Alex what type of flag you expect?

1:55 PM
@SagarV none, because the post is deleted now

Ok then

@Nzall if you want, then you can flag with "other: in need of moderator intervention" and mention the reason

The link took me to the question and I wonder why he want us to flag a Q with 4 upvotes

@Inc. I'm already discussing it in SF/F, and there are some mods in there, so I don't know if a separate flag for that is needed
Or do you need a flag to move a question?

@Nzall no, mods can migrate it themselves

2:05 PM
An SF/F mod can migrate a question from meta.SFF to meta.SE?
I didn't know that. Or I forgot it.
I have really been out of the MSE loop for a long time.

Q: What's the official SE response to serious mentions of suicide or self-harm in posts?

ShokhetLast night on Mi Yodeya, someone posted a question that was basically a suicide note, along with the question of what Judaism thought about suicide. The question was put on hold very quickly, and several supportive comments were posted ("You've listed Los Angeles as your location. A local program...

I thought they can

@Inc. Yeah, I think you're right. I think mods on the receiving site have to "accept" it in some way, though. Or the migration fails.
Maybe.

@Derpy actually I'm not sure about this one because the question on SF/F itself doesn't really refer to self-harm. Instead, it has a precaution to readers if they might be disturbed by the post.

2:11 PM
@Inc. sorry, misinterpreted the original question. Disregard my message
the cat is here.

here's the thing: I think such a disclaimer is something worth having, given that many news outlets on TV and newspapers include such a disclaimer when reporting on suicide. I just think the implementation of the OP leaves to be desired, considering they provide a link that is only useful to Australians
I mean, only 1/300 of all people live in Australia, so a link that is only relevant to them on an international site is a drop in the ocean

@Nzall two issues really - it assumes most people can't deal with it, and some folk will take it too far.

@Nzall in that case, you can use the answer from Derpy's link above.

and IMO, its something that specific sites need to find themselves the best way to handle.
I mean, its certainly not going to be an issue on most of the techie sites

But this is really the first time I've seen a question with such disclaimer/notice/precaution.

2:21 PM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, realistically, it's most likely to be an issue on the entertainment sites

@JourneymanGeek how to prevent touchpad from automated tasks?

@SagarV errrr what?
@Nzall yup.

@Inc. same here, which is why I wanted to establish how to handle these

It sometimes move automatically, do click and right click
automatically drag some windows, sometimes close some windows

and I don't really like the idea of somewhat heavy handed trigger warnings personally

2:22 PM
Anime & Manga also has questions related to someone's suicide... and heck, there's Death Note over there. But I've never seen such disclaimer.

@Oded can we have the TLD .se for sites?

@JourneymanGeek it shouldn't be automated obviously, but I feel like we should at least have something that's roughly the same for every question

I'm disagreeing there
Its a moderation issue to an extent
and one that certainly needs to be handled with a certain degree of care.

@JourneymanGeek did you see my follow up message?
what is the issue there

@SagarV you want us to take over Sweden?

2:24 PM
@SagarV I think my usual response for these things is kinda true. I'm not on chat to do tech support for random strangers ;)
try superuser.com or something

@Oded That's on the company's goals right? Probably a few years out though.

@JourneymanGeek Ok. will try there. I doubt whether it is completely on topic there. Better I could ask it in the meta

@Andy don't recall ever seeing "World Domination" or "Start small with Europe" as a goal in any company presentation. Then again, I might not be getting invites to those meetings.

On Stack Overflow, a question gets asked once, answered, and then becomes a central point of knowledge for thousands of others who read it on our site. But what about developers who don’t have the luxury of being public about their work?

Today, we’re announcing Stack Overflow Channels for teams that need a dedicated, private space to share knowledge. We’re working hard on an early beta, and we want your active involvement in the product as we build it. If you’re interested in early access and product updates, sign up here! …

user315433
Normally, when you click the "unanswered" tab on superuser.com/questions, you get to superuser.com/questions?sort=unanswered and there is no way to sort those.

@ShadowWizard points for bluefeet then ...

user315433
7:49 PM
But you can manually create the URL superuser.com/questions?tab=unanswered&sort=newest that will sort them, say, by newest. (And it's still /questions material, so questions under -3 are not dropped unlike at superuser.com/unanswered )

@rene surely @blue will be thrilled!

user315433
@ShadowWizard Because "look weird" was the goal?

@Alex that's just the newest tab

Anonymous
@Alex I'm not sure if that's what happening. Jump to like page 20 and I see a few answered questions there.

the "sort" parameter somehow overrides the "tab" parameter
@Alex oh. Now I know. :D

user315433

@JeremyBanks :( I was wrong.... But honestly, "unanswered" is not really a "sort" method.

@Alex well, this is some kind of hidden bug, if anything. :)
