Gordon Linoff is the first SO users to reach 40K answers. I didn't notice when he passed Jon Skeet by answer count.

user315433
All SO users with 500+ answers, there are 6103 of them in SEDE.

Morning, and I'll be late

user315433
Morning, late? This reminds of an apocryphal professor who got scheduled to teach an 8am class and replied "I can't stay up that late".

How could california be burning again in winter? Doesn't compute.

user202362
I blame it on the burning man

user202362
idiots summoned fire demons </trollololo>

Winter can be pretty dry... and it's cold... so people who camp build fires... and then those fires get out of control... and the forest goes up in flame because they've been short on rain and fires are actually sort of necessary in keeping the underbrush free of dead stuff that goes up quickly...
so when they prevent forest fires, they run the risk of a future fire being... much much worse unless they do controlled burns of some sort or somehow clear the underbrush.

user202362
you probably don't go camping enough, it's hard for fire to sustain in low temperature

Proposal: let it burn at a predefined time, and just shield humans from the consequences

1:12 AM
It's California, though... it's 71... so it's not that cold.
"Cold" is relative... too. :D

Celsius, please
or at least denote your units

22

thanks
That's cold ... for mid-summer

... Um... I don't think it's ever 71 c on earth without something affecting the temp... you know... like lava.
It's not mid-summer?
It's nearly midwinter.

again, you assume USA :P

1:18 AM
We're talking about California...

I know :-)

user202362
@JohnDvorak people have been doing pre-burning for ages, burning of a segregation area

user202362
It would be interesting to see how many people would turn up for the burning man next year ...

user315433
Jon Skeet still leads by the number of accepted answers, with 20992. Gordon Linoff is second with 18274.

user315433
Fewer than 3000 users have 300+ accepted answers.

2:05 AM
But how many users got 100+ answers and have accepted all of them?
Or reversing the question... what is the maximum number of answers from someone who accepted all answers?

@JohnDvorak in nature you usually have lots of smaller fires
one of the reasons these things get so big is ironically...
not enough fire

need more Michael Bay

user315433
@AndrewT. One can't really accept all answers unless there is only 1 per question. These are most accepting users, there are 6174 with 100+ acceptances. B. Clay Shannon leads with 1991.

Probably I stated my question poorly... to put it simpler, who has 100% acceptance rate (yeah, that taboo word) with the most questions?

So, askers?

2:20 AM
yeah, not the answerer...

So, the highest accept rate of users who have asked more than 100 questions?

umm, I revised the question to: the highest number of questions of users who have 100% accept rate.

1.
:P

so sadd~~~

@JonEricson Everything OK your end of the continent?

@Catija It's a big continent. ;-) But I'm not in any danger from the fires near us. Thankfully the hills near us already got burned earlier in the year so there's not much fuel up there.

@JonEricson I'm glad to hear that. :) I've seen some of the video of people driving on highways surrounded by fire and it's scary!

That's the freeway I used to drive to work every day. Crazy!
Lot's of very expensive homes up there.

Eeek! Are you working remote so you don't have to drive?... I'm not even sure if people are going to work... also I didn't realize that there was an office in the LA area.

Oh. That was years ago before I got this job.

4:33 AM
Oh. HA HA. "used to"... :P

I could have meant "used to before the fires". ;-)

Technically... my question was "so you don't have to drive"... not "so you don't have to go to work" :P

user315433
Does SE have an office in California? Not sure Jon would have somewhere to drive to even if he wanted.

user315433
I think there is (or used to be?) a small rented thing in San Francisco.

No, they just have offices in NYC, London and their server farm thingy in Colorado... I think that closing the Colorado office was part of the layoffs?
I'm actually trying to update an MSE answer but this page says that they still have all three: stackoverflow.com/company/contact

user315433
Perhaps WeWork doesn't count as a real office, but it's a place one could go to work.

I think "WeWork" isn't an official office... they're those ... places they rent on a short-term basis?

Anonymous
@CrazyIvan We also had a WeWork space in Toronto. Had the company logo on the door, but wasn't considered a real "office".

To be fair, architects don't actually hammer things down.

@Catija IIRC Colorado was mostly sales

@JourneymanGeek Yeah... trying to figure out if "was" is accurate, though... the contact page hasn't been updated but I was pretty sure that they closed the office there.

@CrazyIvan different sort of architecture ? ;p

@JeremyBanks I don't suppose you know if the San Francisco one is still active?

Also I think (nearly?) all CMs are remote

Anonymous
4:50 AM
I do not know.

@JourneymanGeek They have to be difficult to find... and they have a propensity for hiring CMs from users, so it makes sense to let them live where they already are. :P

(and heh, If I ended up working at SE or anywhere remote, I'd probably have to move out, or get some co-worky space somewhere cause my parents have gotten too used to randomly asking me for help ;p)

I wonder how many of the mods would apply for a CM job if there was one available.

Well, I know Monica's interested. I would be as well (and I'm available ;p)

How did your interview go?

4:53 AM
AT the same time, this feels like roughly the worst time to ask ;p

Heard anything else?

:( Sorry.

@AndrewT. eh, I vacuumed a room today

4:54 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, those two are obvious ... they mention it every chance they get. ;)

@Catija eh, jobhunting is a pain
who me? ;p
lol
I'd rather use the same tactic I used to be a mod personally.
Be awesome. Let other people do the bothering ;p

We really should be able to VTC questions on the individual Meta sites as duplicates of questions on Meta SE... Or we should migrate non-site-specific questions to Meta SE as a rule.
It's too much of the bad kind of redundancy.

@Dukeling I think that's intentional

My pandas answering period was less than 30 days in Dec 16 - Jan 17 (winter break). The tag doesn't suffer from the lack of answerers and there is not much mathematically interesting stuff.

I agree with that assessment.
I don't think I've had a pandas question not get answered yet.

Fresh report: Beginning College Students Who Change Their Majors Within 3 Years of Enrollment. Math leads the way, with 52% leaving the major. CompSci is at 28%.

user315433
The report is reasonable; Inside HE is predictably raising alarm about how those students are missing out on the gravy train that's waiting for everyone who can memorize the proof that sqrt(2) is irrational.

I loved algebra in high school, calculus can't be that much harder, right?!?

user315433
10:52 PM
Most prospective majors take calculus in high school, not that it does them much good.

user315433
The way I see it, a student who is actually good at math will likely find a better paying thing that they are also good at. Which is fine with me.

True. :D I do sort of wonder what the actual numbers are... if it's 52% of a million, that's somehow different than 52% of 1000... It'd be interesting to see the percentages compared to the number of people entering each major.
Though, I'm pretty sure that 100% of people who started with my original major changed it... I was "Undeclared Liberal Arts".

user315433
The report appears to track changes to declared major.
