is it me or is that a bunch of ppl staring at a turkey's butt?

1:38 AM
@Telkitty its just you. And two of them

Take a.... stand?

take a seat.

thank you, and also morning :)

also, ugh. I need to go out somewhere randomish soon...
(ordered most of the parts for this bias lighting but need to source for some stiff thin material to mount it)
might try artfriends but at some point I may end up going to a place with metal shops
hm. I might be able to get my mom's frame maker to get some acrylic...
which is kinda the best thing for this

1:53 AM
I'm not so crafty, so I guess I can only say good luck.. but I think our friend @Telkitty can help with it

eh, right now I'm using pretty beefy wooden planks.
I don't really have the space/tools for 'proper' cutting so simple is good

It happened 5 times that a site had two elections in a year: Arqade 2011, SO 2011, Webmasters 2013, SO 2015, and Raspberry Pi 2017.

Happens only in odd-numbered years.

Odd...

Surprisingly, the knife edge challenge still doesn't get much responses
Unsurprisingly(?), it is usually also the same case for beta site evaluation

easier to curse the dark than to light candles ;)

yeah, I tried the challenge, but I couldn't analyze them and abandoned it...

@AndrewT. It's the night before a major US holiday, so I'm surprised it got any response yet. ;-)

Knife edge challenge?

@Catija SO only... though the concept can be applied to all sites I think

@TravisJ I see your IP address, not sure what to do with it though ...

Do whatever you want with it, but be careful, you never know what might be there ;)
I certainly don't.
That IP address just happens to look a lot like 1-800-555-1234

lol

cv please @TravisJ @ShadowWizard @rene meta.stackexchange.com/questions/303582/…

Ridiculous
I doubt that anyone on the team is even going to get these emails for a long time considering that it is a major holiday.

@JourneymanGeek did it without seeing the request ;)
Anyway...
@rene i had my post best quality i never got a vote down until now — jimmy 54 secs ago
YEAH RIGHT

I can't even follow that link.

Name is familiar, think it's a troll who keeps whining about "vanishing account" from time to time. Hmm... better just ignore next time. Close the rant and delete.

No I mean I cannot access StackOverflow.com

ooooh maaaaan

Because apparently I am "rate limited".
So, I found the cause.

8:35 AM
@TravisJ you fell off the knife edge?

Apparently the draft mechanism broke and is spamming their server.

0_0
bug?

Yeah, I gotta try to document

@TravisJ check your user scripts, maybe one got wild and started to send request every second or so, trying to scrape/do something.

draft mechanism... gulp

8:37 AM
@ShadowWizard Nope, I don't have anything like that.

First thing I'll do in such case is use totally different browser, clean, with no scripts/plugins/things that mess with other things and I forget about them.
@TravisJ many said that and were proven wrong. :)
e.g. Hammertime.

Did they have JS gold tag badges?
It is still sending. The update mechanism for the post draft is broken.

ooh, we're bringing out the big guns ;p

HAMMERTIME err.. something like that.

@ShadowWizard - I have chrome extensions published in the store, I know what it would entail to hit the server. It isn't happening. Also, the "plugin" I run is open source: github.com/travisjj/StackTop/tree/master

huh... reading this and... you know...

@TravisJ so must be case of shared IP, can't you change IP?

@ShadowWizard so dark :(

@JourneymanGeek indeed
@balpha oh hey, any chance you're the developer in charge on Winterbash this year? :)

@Magisch not only someone seem willing to pay. Not only this will obviously end up in "blood traffic" (well, we already have organ traffic....). They even had the courage to allow public hospitals to sell "surplus plasma stocks" to them.

@balpha awesomefully awesome!! Is it rate limited too like the previous one? Or can we get wild with requests?

it's still running on the free app engine quotas

8:46 AM
but I just created it last night, so hardly anyone knows about it yet ;)

So better not have it integrated into fun bots in chat.

I used a custom domain so I'm not tied to the app engine this time

@balpha huh. Feeling stupid now for this:

(neither balpha as the developer, or full month work.)
So we can expect a decent winterbash this year, nice. :D

@ShadowWizard - I think that either the composition of the post, or having two tabs open to the same meta post answer draft must have done it.

@Derpy but why

8:49 AM
I think someone heard my cries for help though, because the limit seems to have been removed, and I also closed the page to make sure the erroneous posting was stopped.

target acquired. Commencing persuasion reminders.
@balpha I think you should include an unicorn hat...
3

I tried duplicate tab meta post and drafting on both, but no problem, not even spurious draft saving

Perhaps it was the content in my post?

mayyyyybeeeee...? preview post?
(but what were you doing...)

Well I didn't want to meta effect some posts while doing the challenge, but I wanted to keep a link for those who were really curious, or for future reference, so I hid the link in <img src="https://stackoverflow.com/q/46879005" /> which may have caused the problems? Unsure.

8:54 AM
changing focus from/to answer box "validate a post", but still manually doing this doesn't rate-limit me

I sent the text of the body to the team in an email and asked for forgiveness

(I wonder... would it be feasible to have the unicornify unicorn stand on a top hat? So basically the hat would be different for every user?)

You sure are inventive tonight (and I like it)

ooh, zat was a fun one
not only did the spammer post 3 non answers on the same random post, he apparently was commenting .... like a lot...

@TravisJ well, the original idea was the "Music Box Hat", a box shaped hat that when clicked would open up revealing a tinny spinning unicornify unicorn (again, different for every user) and play a randomly generated short tune....
But for some reasons I think balpha wouldn't really like this idea

9:01 AM
It seems a little over-engineered, but maybe if you keep testing ideas one will stick

@TravisJ Work on Winter Bash infrastructure: 20%. Implementing hats: 10%. Implementing that single hat that dastardly pony asked for: 70%
@JourneymanGeek that one needs to be a thing too.

60%. 10% is the code making sure said pony never gets the hat.
@Derpy not my idea. Its pinned ;p

@JourneymanGeek what should I do to get that... hat?

First you take a turkey....

9:06 AM
...and then?
Look, my personal advice: just keep your head up, you'll get there.

@AndrewT. In the original sketch, Bean was trying to find his wrist watch, so if you are going for a Mr. Bean reference it should have something to do with time.

Answer was accepted, and question edited within a 24 hour time period.

"Find and read a question tagged with "

Too easy, one does not simply accomplish such a feat as the bean turkey head maneuver.

A headcrab is a fictional alien parasitoid found in the Half-Life video game series created by Valve Software. They are the most common and arguably the most iconic aliens in the series. == Attributes == === Depiction === Headcrabs are depicted as parasitic lifeforms roughly 2 feet (0.61 m) long. The common headcrab variant has rounded bodies with four legs for movement, two of which are long clawed legs at the front and two stubby legs at the back. Their pair of large frontal claws are for attacking, and as additional support when standing still. Under the headcrab's body is a large ro...

btw. As @JNat probably knows, there is a small chance Capcom could have a little trick up its shelve and announce a new Rockman game on Dec, 17 (30th anniversary of the release date of the first Rockman game in Japan). Creating a Megaman-styled hat should be pretty simple... (probably there even already was one on Arqade). IF they announce something, the hat could be auto-awarded to everyone. It they skip their chance... the hat will simply stay unused. Name should simply be "They remembered!"

I loved megaman
There were just so many things done right in the creation of megaman

YEP. I was remembering correctly.

wow.

9:18 AM
bottom left. That is clearly the top of a Megaman hat (notice also Link one on the row above). Trad: they already have the graphics. At this point, manually awarding it IF Capcom remembers shouldn't be too much work.

9:36 AM
@Telkitty just you
@Derpy is this the origin on winterbash?

@ShadowWizard uhh... I thought they fired a lazor beam at the turkey

ugh, knife's edge took me like 2 hours to do, here is my result
Definitely stayed up too late doing that lol, oh well

@AndrewT. nah just my lazy way to see where they're looking. :D

@TravisJ you're the victim of using the cached value for "cache breaker"

user202362
when do people use bash the most, winter right?

user202362
9:38 AM
Bash is a Unix shell and command language written by Brian Fox for the GNU Project as a free software replacement for the Bourne shell. First released in 1989, it has been distributed widely as the default login shell for most Linux distributions and Apple's macOS (formerly OS X). A version is also available for Windows 10. Bash is a command processor that typically runs in a text window, where the user types commands that cause actions. Bash can also read and execute commands from a file, called a script. Like all Unix shells, it supports filename globbing (wildcard matching), piping, here documents...

user202362
of course you can use bash in summer too, but you know, people tend to be outside more in summer

@AndrewT. C-C-C-CACHE BREAKER

The query was a bit confusing since apparently we have to change dummy to break the cache. Also, I think mentioning the dummy value in the answer also helps others to avoid accidental duplicate set of questions. Otherwise, please input own user ID as the dummy to prevent duplicate value :) — Andrew T. 5 hours ago
not really an instruction, just a suggestion
but well, you did the challenge, we appreciate it...

sigh
I didn't see that note, and the way the page loads the dummy input box is not present

@Telkitty bash in the bushes?

9:44 AM
@Telkitty there's no winter here, so... how about dry bash

@AndrewT. Winter is Coming

okay, bed time, Happy Thanksgiving :)

yes, please

(I think I have seen this conversation... déjà vu)

10:07 AM
@ShadowWizard First Winter Bash was in 2012. One year before, Arqade had a similar event called "Hat Dash".
the event started as a reference to Team Fortress 2

@JourneymanGeek @Magisch ... Remember Ambrosia Plasma? Well, "thanks" to the folks at Worldbuilding now we find out another similar idea.
LifeGem is a company based in Chicago that makes synthetic diamonds from human or animal remains. Established as the International Research & Recovery Corporation, LifeGem was the first U.S. company to develop a way to extract carbon from human remains. According to Dean VandenBiesen, speaking on The Stan and Terry Show on May 7, 2007, the company is able to create a diamond from a lock of hair. The company was founded in 2001 by Greg Herro, Rusty VandenBiesen, and Dean VandenBiesen, and was first based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. It is now headquartered in Chicago and a second office, under...
I wonder... If one was to also pay to have the diamond encrusted in a golden sword, does he get to become a magical golden talking sword after death?
