@Mithrandir Of course

well then why aren't you responding in CHQ

Smokey gets pushed so hard in CHQ that they are fed up with all of you.

I just read through the transcript about this one clown moaning about the mods on SO

Only one?

9:37 AM
I thought there were two

well brad mentioned the hans guy
tbh I'm surprised he still has an account and no perma ip ban after what brad mentioned
people have been nuked from orbit for less

Oh, that. Yes. It is the whole room culture is different thing I guess.

imo if your room culture doesn't jive with the values laid out in be nice and the SO ToS, then find another site to host your room

Exactly
It is not that SE has the monopoly on chat across the internet

certainly doesn't
get an irc chat or something

9:41 AM
Freenode works

or stop being mean and backhanded and cut the homophobic / racist slurs. But we know some people won't be able to
so at least they can take that elsewhere
discord will work in a pinch too

Or you can run your own chat. With blackjack and hookers.

Yeah, we do that for SOCVR. Without the blackjack and the hookers ...
so pretty boring

I still heavily lean towards just cut the homophobic and racist crap. While that has no place anywhere really, it especially doesn't in a chat about programming
It's not that hard to obey SO's rules

@Magisch I just believe in the three golden rules.
Be nice, don't be a dick, and listen to other users.

9:44 AM
@Magisch I would not heavily lean towards that. Just don't. There is no excuse.

It all breaks down to empathy in general
If you have sufficient empathy you'll stop yourself from being awful because you know how it feels when someone is awful towards you
@rene Some people just can't stop themselves

@Magisch Maybe everyone needs to experience it themselves first?

@rene That's a weak excuse

Or maybe it is self-defense? let's be a dick so others don't bully me

I don't need to be discriminated against based on my race to know that that's wrong

9:47 AM
@Magisch sure, not defending it, just looking for a possible reason behind the behavior.

I think it's a lack of empathy

How about homophilia... crap?

@Success so the love ... of humans?
latin / greek mixup?

I agree that homophobic crap is not tolerable, but what about the other extreme?

@rene oooh, I missed drama?

9:52 AM
@Success Probably will veer into off topic territory, but I don't know if that'd be forbidden
I mean as long as it's on topic for where the room is, adheres to the be nice principle and doesn't violate ToS

!!/alive

@Mithrandir You doubt me?

I don't think SE chat is the right place for excessive public displays of affection either. And cybering is right out.

@JourneymanGeek would fall under violating the ToS, I suppose

!!/reboot

9:57 AM
@Bart some took place in the Den, but yes, you missed a popcorn opportunity ...

I don't get why people insist on bringing this stuff to SE anyways
SE is a serious medium

but there was "Rainbow SO"...

@Success that was politics. And eh, I want people to feel safe, regardless of gender or sexuality

don't make the mistake that any action or event taking place, all of a sudden is a waiver for site rules/policy

And that's the problem with people. I can see since that event, people started thinking "Oh hey, if SO is open to LGBT topic, why can't we?"

10:03 AM
@rene I knew the Den was no good. That's why I stay away from there. Right @ShaWizDowArd?

@Success there's nothing wrong with the topic in many cases
as long as it isn't hateful or disruptive

@Bart ha, I think this was the first time I actually moderated there ...

@SmokeDetector My spam flag on that (Sep 29) aged away. I have 3 aged away spam flags on 3D printing. :-/

user315433
11:49 AM
Why do spam/RA flags age away? What problem does aging solve?

user315433
If the problem that mods are totally absent from the site, aging flags isn't a solution.

user315433
Perhaps it's by analogy to close votes (without aging, sporadic closevotes accumulate over time) but if a post is drawing red flags once in a while and nobody looks at them, hiding the flags is solving the wrong problems.

@SmokeDetector need moar flags before mine's aged away too

user315433
Mods were last seen: Oct 5, Oct 2, and in 2016. So there's hope of someone showing up within two days.

user315433
Also, I totally understand that volunteer mods have better ways to spend their weekends. That's more the reason not to age away flags in mere two days.

12:00 PM
Apparently mine also has aged away since Sep 29...

user315433

@Success So did I. "Multiple spam flags on this post aged away (they were cast on September 29). Please consider getting additional moderators for this site. "

@Desire notify some CM about it

12:04 PM

user315433
They have queries to find such things, I suppose. I'd rather have aging aged away.

@Success they should give attribution to my message above (for the name)

12:21 PM
@Success how many hands does she have?

I trust ads like stackoverflow.com/jobs/companies/qsoft-web-software-solutions should not be in /jobs/? I reported something similar before and got a nice thanks but it seemed kind of informal ... is there a meta question or something about this topic?

I kiiiinda suspect its a different set of folks from our beloved CM team
(so a genericish question maybe?)
though, its arguably a company profile

And I kinda suspect there being a "On your company page anything goes" kind of rule similar to user profiles.

@Bart they are paying to SO
PARTIALITY

Which is why a generic question using that as an example would be nice.

12:43 PM
@Bart Wrong. You stay away because you actually love pings so much that you're afraid to become addicted.
Trivia: who knew that RO can't kick a user who hasn't posted a message recently?

@ShaWizDowArd why would you?
And how recently?

@JourneymanGeek to revive a dead bot

ah

@ShaWizDowArd kenny?

@JourneymanGeek guess 2 days, bot in question hasn't posted for 3

12:45 PM
Alas, my rolled up newspaper, made from the heart of a dying star is powerless here.

@redhand nah, @Moosebot

@ShaWizDowArd hit it with @Bart's smithing stick

@redhand it's powerless in Den
Den absorbs the power of @Bart's sticks

You probably need a friendly staffer to deal with it? ;p

@JourneymanGeek there are two conflicting words in that sentence.... ;)

@ShaWizDowArd does that make it sticky?

@Bart no. It make den Ugly

@Bart ewww sticky

1:20 PM
@Bart the one I managed to get shut down was in some language other than English but the response I got was along the lines of "yeah, advertising the company's services, not the company as an employer; removed"
I discussed it here at the time too; IIRC the comany name was something like sobet

so-bad

Aug 15 at 4:02, by tripleee
I found a company profile in Jobs which is not in English, is that allowed? It looks spammy, too (though Google translate indicates it actually describes the company ... in some Far East language; not sure if it's Tagalog or Malay)

1:37 PM

@Feeds heh, I am exactly the same

@Bart depends what your sticks are made from.

Sticky stick!?

Sometimes I feel like the only person in my circle of friends with a set and adqeuate sleep schedule

1:40 PM
If I don't get my 9 1/2 hours a day I can barely function the next day

you're weird

You're 14. Going to bed on time is anathema to you

*15... but point taken.

But when you're my age you'll see that having a set and appropriate sleep rhythm helps
a lot
especially when more is expected of you then not falling asleep too often in the middle of high school classes :p

classes? what are those?

1:42 PM
@Mithrandir surely you're still in school, right?

how many times do I have to mention that I'm homeschooled? :P

point taken
but eventually you'll have to work
unless you're filthy rich, that is

I do wake up between 8:16 and 8:22 every day, though

5:25 - 5:29 here

@Magisch you should join our industry and experience the wonderful concept of Gamedev Crunch. I haven't slept more than 6 hours in months now

1:44 PM
lol

@Bart I was going to be a game developer at some point

@Magisch I wake up at 6.30. Even when I don't have a job ;p
I sleep... whenever

But then I looked at job offers and internship offers and decided having work life balance and a decent salary is morei mportant
I'm not working more then 40 hours a week
and nobody can make me :p

@Magisch not all rich people are filthy! ;-)

except if I was working for some place where I already spend most of my free time
I swear if I had a job at SE I would just live in my office and never leave

1:46 PM
@ShaWizDowArd they could be so rich, they pay someone to bathe for them.
@Magisch SE's heavily remote though ;p

@Magisch I get half of that.

even better
live in your home office, be on the PC 15+ hours a day, never leave

@Magisch 7 hours is my mean.

:D

@Bart do you have any new game for us

1:47 PM
@Magisch I kinda have the setup for that ;p

@Magisch join some SS company and you'll have to

If I worked from home, I'd just add a bigass monitor on top and a better third monitor to my dual 4k setup ;p

I hope that one day I can get a job with something I'm really passionate about
And then just sink my soul into it and go 100% ham
> reasons why I'm not joining any of those
Like I said unless it's something I'm passionate about
@Bart What part of gamedev do you work in?

@Magisch weapon dev for game chars
I guess

Weapon: smiting stick

2:06 PM
@Magisch - there is a better option: get a job where you have very little things to do: like those guardians in a residence building or dispatchers who sit on a chair and stay connected to the internet all day long. Then you can sink your soul in whatever you want, whenever you want, without anyone telling you what to do and having the freedom to swing your passion into something completely different anytime. Isn't that just better?

I keep reading it as smithing stick.

@redhand nope. Nothing I can talk about. But you can always look at our published games ;)
@Magisch We're fairly small so it's kinda everything. But I tend to be the one doing tools dev and engine dev more than others. Though at the moment it's mostly gameplay.

2:26 PM
@SmokeDetector f

2:45 PM
Gameplay ... so you play FIFA18 all day and call it work ....

3:14 PM
@rene worse. I get to play my own shit all day. Over and over again. With the same music. And same SFX. The same level. The same part of it. Hundreds of times.

Maybe you should fix that bug then so you can advance to the next level?

3:28 PM
@rene that's even without bugs. With bugs you get to play it even more ... yay?

yay!

Math users tend to generate new ideas during elections. In 2014 it was candidate score; in 2017 it was creating the election chat room ahead of time (when the question collection is announced). Makes sense... The downside is that the room is owned by a regular user instead of Grace Note.

user315433
But Grace "adopted" it by linking from the election page, and the RO is reasonable, so it worked out.

user315433
Meanwhile, on CS Theory the election chat room got deleted for inactivity.

user315433
Next move, delete the site itself for inactivity.

user315433
They still don't have enough candidates for an election, where "enough" is 2.

user315433
The sole nomination (with Candidate Score 4) has no comments.

user315433
3:53 PM
I'd say, un-graduate the site and give their design to Anime & Manga. It kind of fits: 0s and 1s are like manga, black and white.

@Desire Lots of sites have inactive election chat rooms... people just prefer to chat in the main room if it's not too disruptive.

user315433
I don't often see it deleted, though. Twice in this case.

@Desire FR on MSE, no?

user315433
No, site-specific so it belongs on meta.cstheory

Could be a generic network wide implementation

I think that is a reference to this horrendous screenshot
or maybe the circles are so bad they look like lines 😊

Someday I'll get a Wacom tablet with stylus and then I'll have really pretty freehand circles. Right now I use actual circles/ovals and they're usually green.

NH.
and green is bad because?

@NH. because not red

@NH. you already did try a different browser, disabling any plugins, a different ISP/Network route?

It may still be better to post a fresh bug report. The auth system was revamped in not too distant past, though I don't remember if it was after that post.

NH.
oh thanks, that works, but I'm still not logged in.

The root issue is that stackexchange.com is not a high priority for features or bug fixing.

any errors in the dev console?
