Yes, main channel Chrome (50) has the flags for marking http as non-secure. I've enabled it just for fun...

Of course, the short /a/id links redirect to http regardless. :/

Yeah. We could switch back to /answer, I think that still remains with HTTPS. Or someone could submit a bug report...

user315433
@hichris123 But there is no /answer/id option

user315433
This is exactly why we are using /a/. The long long link with /question/ title #id would just be too long.

user315433
8:14 PM
For questions, /question/id works well, keeping the protocol.

Maybe I'm thinking of /questions then? 'cause it all redirects to the same spot...

user315433
Wow, commented code in Smokey's source.

ProgramFOX's fault.
@Meta Seems to work for answers too.

user315433
Oh, that's cool. We didn't think of that.

user315433
It will break a few things if we simply change it, because some code (metasmoke? and SDtracker for sure) relies on those URLs to determine the post type.

8:19 PM
hrm, yeah.

user315433
We could use /questions/id/a to indicate post type, since /a is ignored. Still requires coordination with metasmoke, probably.

For now, I think the current way is fine. SE breaks HTTPS support in many other ways...
(obviously not ideal though...)

user315433
OK. Unrelated: now that've been messing with chrome://flags, I've enabled Material Design... is it supposed to do something?

I think you put a bounty on the wrong post @Meta... meta.stackexchange.com/questions/223728/… :P
@Meta Should give you a material-design chrome://settings, chrome://history, chrome://downloads, etc.

@hichris123 Speaking of that https support... is it worth it, you think, to go back and edit all of my stack-snippets which use third party scripts and change the protocols to relative/https?

8:23 PM
@canon Do they fail to work with https page loads currently?

lol, no

user315433
Snippets are executed on stacksnippets, and inserted by iframe.

but it's like 200 answers

I don't see a reason why you would need to edit them then...?

err, yes... they fail
I don't know how I read that improperly
yes, they fail
mixed content and stuff

8:25 PM
Oh, okay. :P
I mean, if you really wanted to...

user315433
Well, what hichris just said. Breaks in so many other ways.

sort of wish I could make housekeeping edits without bumping posts

user315433
I'm not sure, but this may be solvable server-side, since they have to process snippets in some way regardless. They could rewrite http references to https at least in common use cases.

This particular script is just for in-snippet console visualization... if it fails to load, messages are still logged to the developer tools. @Haney also mentioned something about discussing an official console implementation with the team next week, so this may become a moot issue anyhow.

@PhMgBr nick? Nick? hick? Hic?
You mean users who can post in MSE with 1 rep via the app? No surprise there, was going to try it myself but was too lazy. :/

8:51 PM
@ShadowWizard I assume so. Either via the app or via the feedback option in the app.

@hichris123 pretty sure via the app. Is it already reported?

I didn't report it. I kinda doubt anyone else did.

hmm...

user315433
@hichris123 Just a week ago, when a student from an Economics class spent a couple of hours in my office asking questions from his class's material... I did answer, but eventually had to say that's enough of my time.

@Meta why... did this student come to you?

Apparently I'm nicer in real life than on SE. I don't downvote as much.

@hichris123 wasn't sure about tag since it's not really a privilege, just some special temporary block, so didn't add it myself. No harm in that, though. Probably. :)

Well, my bet is that the API just assumes the ability to post privilege is always 1 rep.
Wonder if it enforces answer/question bans and rate limits...

@hichris123 suspension surely enforced, @nicael was suspended for long time and I'm 1000% sure he tried everything.
That said, not sure about post ban....
I know someone Q banned on MSE, can ask him to try via the app.

Speaking of, nicael hasn't visited in 3 months...

Probably busy hacking something big...
Wait, @Telkitty are you still question banned on MSE?

9:09 PM
@Meta Could you test if plain $.post('//...') works also, without prepending location.protocol?

user315433
@Doorknob I thought about it, but (a) I am not going to be able to test all browsers; (b) if one of two approaches ever fails, it's probably not the one with explicit protocol.

Ok, merged it

I put together a list of DevDoodle features to add before I can say it's no longer a beta. github.com/bjb568/DevDoodle/milestones/Out%20of%20beta
I want to get that done over the summer then have a launching party!

user315433
10:32 PM
Does this mean it will get a design after the summer?

user315433
Just kidding. I learned something from DevDoodle today! JavaScript has math functions log1p and expm1 now.

user315433
Not in all browsers, but still nice.

user315433
MDN docs kind of miss the point of this stuff by saying "This can be emulated with ... Math.log1p = Math.log1p || function(x) { return Math.log(1 + x); };

user315433
Hm, but clicking on any of method names in devdoodle.net/dev/51 does not do anything.

10:49 PM
@sandwich Interesting, must be some sandbox thing.
You are no sandwich, @sandwich, you are sushi.
