The simplest way would be to write a script that injects a button that sends you there.

user259867
@JasonC I would bookmark chat.stackoverflow.com/chats/join/favorite and have a userscript click the button there as the page loads. (Mostly because I don't understand the black magic that the button does.)

Oh word. @AstroCB @2mkgz
I just set off all 3 of my fire alarms searing steaks, that was a fun game of run around the house with a ladder pressing buttons while continuing to flip steaks every 30 seconds.

Become taller, or get lower ceilings

And, yeah, they still came out awesome.

@2mkgz Oddly enough, that button just submits a form.

12:06 AM
@AstroCB The button on my fire alarm? I wouldn't be surprised.

You could do document.getElementsByTagName("form")[1].submit();, I guess.
@JasonC Yes, and your light switch imports jQuery, summoning the wrath of bjb.

@AstroCB and then you bask in the glow of bjb’s wrath to light your room?

Or he breaks my light bulbs in a vanilla JS rage to turn them off.

and then he tells you to call it Vanilla JS

hallu

12:09 AM
Holy crap, "awesome" was an understatement for the steak.

Horrible is a better description.

@JasonC can I have one?

If you were here I would totally share.

@JasonC Dude.. by 11:30 I could have one. Head on down to Lancaster.

Skirt steak, marinated in jack daniels, soy sauce, worcestershire, brown sugar, dijon mustard, green onions, and olive oil, pan seared on cast iron to medium rare.

12:11 AM
I'll save you some beer.

runs out of the house... realizes he doesn’t know where Jason lives and goes back inside

That actually sounds like a perfect Friday night @Lynn. One thing I hate about NYC is I miss the impromptu outdoor barbecues with my friends I used to have in Pittsburgh all the time. It's too hard to gather people here.

2 h 56 min (163.6 mi) via I-95 S

Lol. Next time I visit home we should have a Tavern party in Lancaster.

Sounds like a plan. We'll get Frank and go downtown.
Downtown Lancaster is "Artsy"

12:14 AM
Totally. I wonder if any of the NYC SE people are from Western PA.

I dunno, but Cincinnati is only a 10 hr drive!
pokes @bjb568

Lol. Bjb get on it.
@bjb Are you even old enough to drive?

le sigh

@LynnCrumbling 20 hours via I-40 and you’re here. Random guess on the time.

Ugh. Atlanta-ish?

12:16 AM
me? Oklahomaish

Oh...hrmm.

took I think 20 hours to drive from Virginia to here, so NYC is... 30?

Spot on. 19 h 53 min (1,344.4 mi) via I-70 W and I-44

I am a genius :-o

12:16 AM
@yellowantphil Richmond Va is ~4 hrs.
And NYC = 3 hours.
~27 and change...

I’ve never been farther NE than DC

(but not on a friday night)

I got them from the butcher this afternoon, too. They were cut and packed this morning. So good.

cky
*jealous*

brb; boiling h2o.

12:18 AM
@JasonC what, you don’t have cows in your backyard? oh, neither do I...

@yellowantphil I don't have a backyard :(
I guess I could keep them on the roof. Fire escape might be tough though. Crane, maybe.

@JasonC tiny balcony? picture of a tree on your wall?

My desktop background has some trees, and there's a tiny cactus in my kitchen. Does that count?

@JasonC sure
The nice thing about Oklahoma is land is dirt cheap. You could have an acre for whatever you’re paying for that apartment. (random guess)

If I fill out the proper paperwork I can request a sidewalk tree from the parks department. Which is incredibly sad when I think about it.
Yeah probably.

12:21 AM
@JasonC a sidewalk tree? the city comes and puts a tree in, or what?

Yeah

huh 🐱

They just put a line of them in the street next to mine. Cut hole in sidewalk, plant tree.

if I asked the city to do that, they’d tell me to do it myself

It's actually totally awesome when they do that. It's kind of hilarious. Like one day there's no trees. Then you hear this sound of generic work being done, and 10 minutes later there's trees. I always imagine it very cartoony, like a tree planting robot with weird music, and the sun has a smiley face and sunglasses and crap.
Ah, yeah, NYC has tons of regulations about it though. And the city goes out of its way to make an effort to bring greenery to the concrete. So they do it.

12:23 AM
does sound nice... poof there are trees

^ Haha, exactly. Perfect soundtrack.

@tchrist I am not quite there yet. ⅓ acre in the city limits
I could have chickens legally, but I don’t yet

Why do you have illegal chickens?

@tchrist I have imaginary chickens

12:25 AM
To illegally cross roads, I guess.

hmmm let’s see here: ⅓ ¹⁄₃
pretty close in my font

@tchrist How close is boulder to denver?
~45 minutes.

@LynnCrumbling Those are not points, so it is difficult to say.

Ever been to water world?

30–90 minutes.

@tchrist the steps of the capital building to your front door
water world is great

12:29 AM
@yellowantphil 40-90m
Think “Big Dig”.

We did a kiosk for them... dispenses RFID wristbands for lockers.

LOCK_SH | LOCK_EX ?

LOCK_EX

Probably just as well.

It's proprietary, but once the bands mate with a door, the door belongs to the band.

12:31 AM
I live toward Lyons. You can be 15m closer and still be in Boulder.

I just tied into their door system via api... didn't write that.
Dispensing plastic wristbands with RFID chips in them is tricky though, especially when you need to write the data for the chips at print time.

You can also stand on the top of Bear Peak at 8½ kilofeet and still be in Boulder. It will take you rather longer to get to the Capitol from there.

Haha.

You read the RFID and write . . . what/where?

@tchrist why does uninames "CAT FACE" give no results, but uninames CAT FACE works? 😾

12:35 AM
Would you like to know that?

maybe?

@tchrist We go out and request a locker from their central system. It hands us back a byte array that we send to a printer equiped with an RFID reader/writer. The chips are molded into a roll of plastic wristbands. Then we print the band(s) based on how many were ordered.

% uninames --debug CAT FACE -of -t-s eye

@yellowantphil Got it?
Because it ᴀɴᴅs together the arguments, which might be negations, and applies them as regexes.
And hey, you didn’t read the man page!!!!

@hichris123 why?

@tchrist "CAT FACE" is the regex I wanted to search for
I don’t want CAT && FACE
that would match U+23432532523 FACE LOOKING INTENTLY AT CAT

12:40 AM
@yellowantphil oh

@Shog9 I guess it kinda fits on SO... but it seems much more about how the file system works (an SU question) than a programming question. shrug You probably know better than I do.

I don't know.

@JasonC I used to suffer from this if I neglected to clean Windows' temp directories regularly. But, that was back when most of my dev tools were fond of dumping files in there and forgetting about them.

@tchrist 😒

@hichris123 Info could be useful to both groups. In the context where it was asked and answered though, it appears to be more "what do I have to worry about when writing software that creates lots of files".

12:42 AM
@Shog9 Ah yeah temp folders, good point. That's a really good reason for me to add it to my list.

@Shog9 stackoverflow.com/questions/115882/… seems to fit better then... but you're right, it could be useful for both.

@JasonC I missed the context here, what are you writing?

Especially because clearing temp folders ends up being perceived as freeing disk space, and if it speeds up a machine for that reason, the speed up ends up being incorrectly associated with freeing disk space.

@yellowantphil Ok, now I know.

@Shog9 Oh I thought that's why you linked to that NTFS question in the first place. You did it right in the middle of a conversation about superuser.com/a/903726/245945

12:44 AM
Because regexes are always in /x mode.

That's why I responded the way I did when you posted it.

@JasonC ah, I saw the link to howtogeek, but missed your post.

@yellowantphil '(?^x:(?^msx:(?=\A.*?(?:(?-i)CAT FACE))))' means '(?^x:(?^msx:(?=\A.*?(?:(?-i)CATFACE))))'`

@tchrist guess I’ll read about all these crazy modes

The howtogeek link was a reproduction of my post.

12:45 AM
/x means unescaped white space is ignored.

CATFACE?

CATFACE.
(?x) means white space and comments don’t count.

I’ll just ask the Unicode people to remove all spaces from their names

Use \h or \s or something.
I suppose I should have done a (?-x) on that subpattern, but I haditwheneverythingrunstogether.
I’m surprised you didn’t just ask the jquery people here about the regex. They would have given you 7 answers in 2 seconds.

I could just search for CAT FACE next time. Won’t be a problem until they add another couple planes of emoji

12:48 AM
@tchrist Do you think if I just start tagging all my questions I'll get more answers?

@AlexisKing Indubitably.

@tchrist I can stare that all day and night and have no idea what it means...
3

@tchrist I suppose it's probably a tradeoff of quality for quantity.

@JasonC you draw cats better than I do. it thought mine was a panda

12:49 AM
Lol. It took me a few tries. I kept getting "girl with blonde hair".

girl with blonde whiskers 😒

@JasonC I would say blondes and cats probably have relatively similar levels of intelligence, but then I remembered bjb.

@Braiam Really? That’s a pretty superbasic regex. Now if you had said that you couldn’t read the uninames --debug CAT FACE -of -t-s eye '^[^u]+$' regex of (?^x:(?^msx:(?=\A.*?(?:(?-i)CAT)))(?^msx:(?=\A.*?(?:(?-i)FACE)))(?^msx:(?=\A(?:‌(?!(?i)of).)*\z))(?^msx:(?=\A(?:(?!(?i)t-s).)*\z))(?^msx:(?=\A.*?(?:(?i)ey e)))(?^msx:(?=\A.*?(?:(?i)^[^u]+$))) I might have had some sympathy. For a little while. :)

When you can successfully compile and execute code legally and meaningfully matching the above prototype, and explain why it works and what it does, then you will be allowed to leave the C Dungeon. You have a computer with a C compiler and the ed editor and the rest of the V7 utilities but no networking. Good luck. We will check back with you every year for an answer.

They also serve threesomes with magic mushrooms and broiled green-lipped mussels.

OK, I have to see that

That’s their orgasm roll. The multiple orgasm roll is even scrumpdiddliuptiouser.

Maybe the average person's tastebuds are more erogenous than I have been led to believe, but I'm skeptical that such a dish could truly induce a mere single orgasm, much less multiple in sequence.

1:25 AM

I'll sue them for false advertising.

@Braiam Those are magic mushrooms.
They even serve nachos.
I forgot about the monkey brains!
I assure you that even though we are landlocked, we serve only the very freshest of monkey brains here in Colorado.

Lobster Tempura Roll, yum. Overpriced, but yum.
It pleases me to have so whetted your appetites as to send you immediately scurrying off for Japanese take-away. I would ask, however, that you leave the goldfish alone this time.

@tchrist no, blackberry pie.

Ok.
They’ve escaped into the field. Need um relocation.
I got about a cup a day for a couple of weeks last July.
Let ’em go a few days and you can actually make stuff with ’em.
I lost a lot of red canes over this past winter’s deep freeze around New Year’s, but every single black one survived just fine. They’re simply hardier against the cold.
Wisconsin is colder than Colorado, mostly, and they don’t care.
