@Pro or whoever knows things about OAuth, is this plan about right for implementing OAuth on DD?

I have no idea about OAuth.

meh, I don't either :p
I guess I'll just have to poke around at it.

@bjb568isceilingkat Looks okay to me.

Maybe a useful diagram which I have used for an OAuth provider I had to implement: developers.exactonline.com/…. It shows the application flow.
There is also a shortcut, called "implicit grant", you might want to take a look at it.

@Telkitty cute! Yours?
Also, with chickens and birds, the wings are instead of hands. For angels, the wings are in addition to hands.

Challange for @tchrist: learn Hebrew

@ShadowWizard I’m too old.

status-not-a-valid-excuse

It’s non-Indo-European.

The last person I knew who learned Hebrew in his fifties had a nofful time of it.

12:47 PM
I am amazed that you were such a quick learner :p

@tchrist but he ended up knowing it, didn't he?

Might be I have some gibbons in my forebears. Makes gibbonish easier.
@ShadowWizard Yes.

So your excuse is invalid! Just work harder. :D

I went to a talk of his once in which he recounted how truly difficult it was, despite having siphoned up languages in his salad days, to learn Hebrew in his fifties.
His Irish book and his Greek book are excellent.

So you are friends? Looks like he's bit older than you...

12:52 PM
No, I merely met him at a talk.
How The Irish Saved Civilization: The Untold Story of Ireland's Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe is a non-fiction historical book written by Thomas Cahill. Cahill argues a case for the Irish people's critical role in preserving Western Civilization from utter destruction by the Huns and the Germanic tribes (Visigoths, Franks, Angles, Saxons, Ostrogoths, etc.). The book retells the story from the collapse of the Roman Empire and the pivotal role played by members of the clergy at the time. A particular focus is placed upon Saint Patrick and retells his early struggles...

Oh. Too bad, thought maybe you can ask him for extra advice about Hebrew. :)

@ShadowWizard Can one only be friends with one’s agemates?

@tchrist of course not, but it's more common.

It feels more normal now. It never used to.

"Colorless green ideas sleep furiously" is a sentence composed by Noam Chomsky in his 1957 book Syntactic Structures as an example of a sentence that is grammatically correct, but semantically nonsensical. The sentence was originally used in his 1955 thesis "Logical Structures of Linguistic Theory" and in his 1956 paper "Three Models for the Description of Language". Although the sentence is grammatically correct, no obvious understandable meaning can be derived from it, and thus it demonstrates the distinction between syntax and semantics. As an example of a category mistake, it was used to show...

wheel of blame
!!/blame

@Quill-HATMANIAC It's Telkitty's fault.

@SmokeDetector cpu
crap but not spammy
@Quill-HATMANIAC yeah but that's not related to wheel

the command isn't, but what he linked is

2:46 PM
Bot picks someone randomly from the list of users in all the rooms where the bot lives
Only users who posted since bot last restart
Wheel got a static list

@ShadowWizard Now it's not all the rooms where the bot lives anymore, but just the current room.

@ProgramFOX oh. So you can remove that link you added recently :)

@ShadowWizard Nah, that can still be helpful.

(I asked for it after the bot replied with someone I had no idea about)
@ProgramFOX so after bot restart and until someone posts, the blame will always be empty?

Yes.

2:49 PM
Won't it break the bot? (e.g. some null exception ;))

So if you run !!/blame immediately after restarting Smokey, you will always be blamed.

Oh, it's adding to the list before answering? Cool

@ShadowWizard Nope! The reason is that your !!/blame command counts as a message.
yes exactly

No race condition?

No.

2:51 PM
Worth trying... waiting for the bot to restart

The command execution doesn't continue before the user is added to the blame list.

@ShadowWizard Ahh, so that's what it means.

> Is this possible? If it is not possible, is there a way I can work around that impossibility and make it work?

@bjb568isceilingkat Martin Luther King?

@bjb568isceilingkat reasoning seems sensible github.com/CSSLint/csslint/wiki/Disallow-universal-selector

@ShadowWizard lots
@Braiam How many bajillion elements do you have on your page? This kind of optimization is probably on the order of microseconds or less. What actually matters in page speed is the 50 jQuery plugins you're importing…

or, you know, using performance as feature

Avoiding premature optimization is far more important that perfecting your stylesheet applyability to the order of microseconds.
Front-end components on the web don't need to be optimized. Not HTML, certainly not CSS, not JS. If you're using so much of one of those that it's causing slowness, you just need to reconsider some life decisions…

3:07 PM
@bjb568isceilingkat . . .

@bjb568isceilingkat "Front-end components on the web don't need to be optimized." False. If I want to play a very fast chess game, I don't want to play on a laggy board where it takes hours to move a piece. Making the board react fast to your actions, is necessary client-side optimization.

@bjb568isceilingkat I know a granny that would give you some cookies she has stored since '80s for freezing her system when she's trying to see her grandson photos

@ProgramFOX But there's a drag API built into the web. You don't even need to write that code, it's already in the UA. It isn't like you're running crypto on the poor user's JS engine, your JS doesn't need to be fast. JS is just for simple progressive enhancements, where the heavy lifting is already done.

are we talking about engines or style sheets processors?

Both. I'm arguing for everything client-side.

3:16 PM
I see some pages that change fonts at least 3 times before settling... I wonder why I worry

Oh, peh, people go way too overboard with fonts.
You obviously have to minimize the huge assets you're requiring for render. But that's separate from client styles and scripts.

well, my browser has to render the same piece of text several times
@bjb568isceilingkat huh? no

@Braiam That's because somebody was being stupid and not doing things right.

like using a * { font-family: arial }, strong * {font-family: verdana}, totally

@Braiam How I think of it is, one is in the sources pane, the other is in the network pane.
