@chmod711telkitty Could suggest some game if I had some clue about your preferred genres. JRpg? Simulation? Platform? Mainstream or something that suggest the devs made use of some exotic plant leaf/flower?

@VotetoClose headdesk

@VotetoClose someone needs to take a rest

@JanDvorak Community too :)
the guy re-edited it , and it's a lot better this time, but he still misspelled appreciated, just in a different way this time , sigh

Somebody needs a review ban too.

@VotetoClose actually it's an edit conflict. See the revisions, there was other edit, each fixed different parts of the post so it caused a huge mess. Anyway the reviewer approving this should be banned, that's for sure.

12:32 PM
@ShadowWizard unless he was approving a different edit

Yeah, edit collisions in suggested edits cause all sorts of headaches. Usually it's good to assume no one's at fault in those cases since the blame is often with the system.

@JanDvorak no, what we see now is what he saw when approving, I'm pretty sure about it.

@ShadowWizard probably, i was trying to reject the edit but it said it was already approved

does anyone know if the "tool recommendations" off-topic reason existed back in 2010?

12:41 PM
@Stijn I think not, but it does exist now.

@Stijn I would say just by the fact of all the upvotes on those questions, all the answers and comments left, etc, that they were not off-topic then

@Stijn pretty sure it's new, added somewhere this year

OK thanks, needed to know if I could downvote those old answers, I won't then

You still can

Q: Why does striking through not work as in chat?

rubenvbIn (StackOverflow) chat, when I type ---something--- It gets struck through. When I do the same on any SE site, it is not. What I need to do is the terrible <s>something</s> and then it is struck through. Why does the triple dash not work everywhere? It's much more "Markdown"-y than the ...

@JanDvorak gone

@bjb568 Nice

12:55 PM
@JanDvorak I just tested, when attempting to load jQuery 2.x in IE 8, you get '$' is undefined for $. functions and Object expected for $(...) functions, so not the error OP was getting.

@Stijn how did you load it?
huh...

What I meant to say was that it was indeed a bad answer, it guessed wrong

do you mean that answers that guess correctly are good answers?

Can be

Usually not no, I downvote them too, but I think I'd make an exception when it is 100% certain that the answer is correct and perhaps edit the question a bit.
If it's a random lucky guess I still downvote.

I don't see how a lucky guess good answer warrants a downvote. If it's a good answer, what does it matter that it was a guess?

@Cerbrus well, you're supposed to ask the OP to clarify instead of taking a lucky guess and hoping to score some points.

Like: Q: "I've got error XYZ, how come?" A: "It could be that ABC is broken, take steps D / E to fix it.|

@Cerbrus s/It could.*\,//

@Stijn It depends... An educated guess answer is better than no answer..

1:02 PM
Even answers that don't answer the exact problem the OP has may help future visitors that have a similar problem.

there's always time to answer after you've asked the OP to clarify :)

@VotetoClose An educated quess is still worse than a close vote

All my answers are basically uneducated guesses. I keep getting them right though.

@Cerbrus there are star vetoes

1:16 PM
@JanDvorak Why would you need that?

@bjb568 the best use is when a star troll arrives

But they use it on trains :(

Ah :P

@JanDvorak where those added after our little "let's star all the morning train" joke? -_-

BTW...

1:24 PM
how do you veto a star then?

hi i was redirected from meta
i just got like 10 down votes instantly

hello @TilwinJoy

@Stijn you need to be a RO

is there anyone who can check whether its a serial down voting or something

@TilwinJoy There's a bot that does that every day

1:25 PM
@TilwinJoy nobody can check that for you, but an automated process will find out soonish

@TilwinJoy You can ask the SE team with the "contact us" link in footer. (wait 24 hours first)

1) wait for 24 hours to see if the bot catches it

"There's a bot that does that every day" meaning there is a bot that dowmvotes everyday? :O

@TilwinJoy meta.stackoverflow.com/a/255989/3041194 read that , most of those, if not all should be auto-reversed within 24 hours

@TilwinJoy There's a bot that looks for serial voting patterns and reverses them

1:29 PM
ah, thanks :)

@3ventic not really a bot, more like a SQL Server Job scheduled to run daily. ;)

same thing

@JanDvorak dunno but for me "bot" has different usage

Q: Breaking down question blocks - let's talk about rate limits

Tim PostI've been quite vocal about the fact that we're overhauling post blocks, and dropped some hints as to how we're contemplating improving them. The last few weeks of my professional existence has gone into analyzing what we don't like about them, re-visiting what we hoped to accomplish using them, ...

I was the first view!
someone upvoted without reading it

wait, are we supposed to read it?

@VotetoClose ban him! ban him with fire!

Are we supposed to read that?

</GiantWallOfTextSorryNotSorryICouldn'tHelpItThereWasALotToSay>

I may actually read it eventually
Wait, no, I'll dump it to a speech synthesizer.

1:44 PM
@TimPost block == ban?

@Bart in the case of post block, yes

Myeah, the terminology is somewhat confusing to me. Then again, I'm particularly dense.

They're not technically bans, because you can automatically get out of them, or at least you could before the average crap question got -19

Are we voting too much?

Well, I've always categorized them into bans and suspensions @TimPost. Never really "blocks". So that confused me for a while.

1:49 PM
@bart
what are question blocks in a single sentance please? — juergen d 2 mins ago

Blocks that prevent you from posting a question.
Also, sentence*

I like how @juergen seems frustrated after actually reading all that , that he specifically asks for only one single sentence answer to his question.

Answer a question - OP responds: doesn't work...
Why? he didn't use the answer

Also, @Bart - we're going to be looking at how many low-quality questions recently came from your network as we route new questions differently in a review triage - so making new accounts isn't really going to help if you get no visibility on your questions until someone else either blesses or edits them. It's going to be increasingly difficult to work around. It's frankly easier to just put more thought into your posts than try and get around the things forcing you to do so. — Tim Post ♦ 1 min ago

Jul 10 at 18:31, by Shog9
But for the record - because he's stating this stuff publicly - I and several other members of the community team have invested a considerable amount of time and effort into investigating these reports of voting fraud, taken action where it was warranted, and responded honestly when there was no evidence. We're quite frankly sick of him crying wolf and refusing to believe any words that are not coming from inside his own head.

Q: Can i remove the Hot Meta Posts section from my view in SO?

4imbleMost of the questions on meta seem to be answerable with some simple common sense. This really annoys me and i'd like to not see it. From the perspective of Stack Overflow, there are simply many more people asking questions than there are people willing and able to hold their hands.
