@BanksySan Most large sea animals do when beached, since when they die, gasses build up. Sheep have a similar thing - if flipped upside down, they can't get up again easily. If they're there for a while, gases build up in their stomachs to a similar effect (more often than not, internal). And that's more than you needed to know about exploding sheep. — Emracool 2 hours ago

A Unicoin question has turned up on Ask Ubuntu.
19
Q: Is there any way for Ubuntu to speed up Unicoin mining?

OliI saw that there's a new currency on the site today for higher privileges called Unicoin. You can mine them by clicking. I was wondering if there's any Ubuntu wizardry that could speed up the process of mining these coins (and by extension to prove that Ubuntu is better than Windows). Any help ...

@ShadowWizard Thanks :)

I think it means that by hiring people with an SO account, you'll be able to upvote your team in the future.
It could also be interpreted as improve your team.

@balpha not trying to be condescending, you're using promises wrong though :(
I'm not sure I can find a way I could say it that wouldn't sound condescending given your important role here and all you've been doing which we are very grateful for, so I link dropped to petka's article
Sorry.
Wrapping every promise continuation in a deferred breaks chaining, throws throw safety out (which really is an awesome part of promises) and is more error prone than the alternative. Doing .then (or .pipe if you're stuck on old jQuery) returns a new promise already

wow, there's like very few people in here right now, only one line of users

I know how promises work.

The why did you write that code like that?
Then* sorry, mobile.

I didn't "write it like this", it ended up like this. And since it's throw-away code, I'm not going to spend time refactoring something that has a deadline, and two days after the deadline it's deleted, and the code works perfectly fine, and the only issue with it is that there's a page on the internet that calls it an "anti-pattern"
the safety is an important part in promises, yeah, but not in this spot

You have 4 lines of code doing what a return statement does anyway, only they're not throw safe and don't convey intent as well.
Also, that page was written by petka and reviewed by domebic and kris. It's legit. Meh, just trying to be helpful.

6:02 AM
I'll assume you're intentionally ignoring what I said then. Sorry for hurting your eyes.

Thanks, hopefully without sounding like an ass - consider reading that page :)

Morning!

@rene Hi!
Replaced my avatar!
@ShadowWizard I came through on my promise! Check it out:

Ah, we need more unicorns (doesn't show for me in chat yet, only on your profile)

!!!
@rene I spent a good 20 minutes on it :)

I see you used all your creativity...

@rene I did?

6:32 AM
Compared to mine, you did for sure...

@rene yours is creative! :)

It is a macro photo that is out of focus. I spend more time on getting rid of a blackbar at the bottom due to scaling than the actual photo (if you don't count the time it took me to hike to the actual location the photo was taken).

@rene Yup, I got the macro photo part. I do some photography in my spare time, so I guess I know a little about it :)
As it gets later, my Paint skills get worse: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/228015/…

They must have been shipped with USPS...

6:48 AM
@rene Or B-grade carrier pigeon.

What is worse?

@BlueIce Cheers! Lots of red but it's all good :D

@ShadowWizard It brought out the pink in his eyes :)
@ShadowWizard Actually, I went for purple instead. Less... red.
OK, goodnight everyone! The rep cap has been reached, and I am tired :)

7:12 AM
Goodnight @Blue Ice

@rene bye!

Flagged.

and gone

there were same kind of spams yesterday also that @JanDvorak raised here. Don't know if the user is same or not.
those were also on the same site.

Is it the same accoount? the auto-nuke-account will activated shortly?

7:45 AM
What autonuke? Do you mean the q-ban?

I remember that if an account has had three or so questions removed due to spam flags the account is also removed...

again same user, with three spams

@rene that would be cool. Reference?

Hmmm, can't find it... I might have dreamed that...
Based on this I was wrong...

Anyone who wants to spent a CV as duplicate here

wow, that question has comment from "Jon Skeet" asking for more information, and two answers after his comment, without even the same information provided
those must be bots designed by Jon Skeet

8:20 AM
It really is a no brainer...you don't need to be Jon Skeet to answer that...

user163250
Hi guys, is anyone here?

@Cupcake I'm not

user163250
I see :P

@Cupcake I don't think the user "anyone" is here... ;-)

user163250
Well then, I'll just address "everyone", I hope "everyone" is here :P

8:26 AM
this reminded me of unicoins questions on MSO yesterday

user163250
Haha, I didn't see those, I got the colorful comments power up.

user163250
I'm interested in getting a question re-opened, is this an appropriate room to talk about it in?

@rene That's not true. The spammer has now three deleted spam questions but the account is still alive.
@Cupcake I'm not very sure, but because sometimes people ask here to close a question, so I would say: yes.

user163250
Ok, here goes...

user163250
This question was recently closed...

user163250
8:31 AM
As a duplicate, but I think it has some worth to it...

user163250
Since we can highlight that all functions in JavaScript can be closures...

user163250
But only lambda functions in Ruby can close over variables in their outer-scope.

user163250
Should the question be re-opened?

I agree that the duplicate is wrong
I wonder though if it helps anyone to have the answer to that question
It seems a theoretical exercise...

user163250
Hmm, ok.

user163250
8:35 AM
Well, if that's the case, I'll leave the matter be then.

Maybe it could be better asked at programmers.SE because they are more on the concept part of software engineering

user163250
Ok, well thanks for the comments and your time guys!

user163250
Good night!

But I would check their meta first before advicing to post it there
Goodnight

Wow! There are more than 310 posts in the Low Quality Posts queue!

Are they moving questions from the close vote queue to the VLQ?

It are mostly answers.

Speaking of the exclamation site, I just saw Baba there. Wonder how long they'll be stuck with him...

@rene Why three downvotes?
> Trusted users are allowed to perform trusted actions, including: Voting to delete answers with score of -1 or lower

I knew it needed downvotes but not how many...
one is enough :-)
It is -3 on questions

The low quality review queue on SO has 300+ items, I've never seen it that high

I've done my 20 for today in the VLQ

Huh? At "Today", it shows that I've done 19 reviews, but I can't review anymore.

That is strange...did you skip?

9:22 AM
I guess meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/226092/… was (partially) implemented?

@rene Yes, I did, but more than once.

@ProgramFOX Congratulations, you hit an off-by-one bug.
Or is it caching?

I don't think so. It is the first time it happens.
I posted it on Meta:

Q: Cannot review anymore after 19 reviews

ProgramFOXToday I reviewed some posts in the Low Quality Posts, and I hit the daily maximum. But at the "Today" field, it shows 19, but I got the message: Thank you for reviewing 20 low quality posts today; come back in 14 hours to continue reviewing. Here is a screenshot:

Can someone tell me what this post contains? I don't remember and I'd like to find out why someone would click "looks good" on it.

@Qantas94Heavy it was an update by the OP who posted it as new answer instead of editing. I've added it now to the question itself, even though the question is old.

10:57 AM
is this a good answer or should it just be a comment?

It should be a comment IMHO. I left a CV on the question.

I have two questions, if I may ask
What does IMHO means?
and why you left CV on "question"?

In my humble opinion.
that's what IMHO means.
Let me rephrase this: IMHO = "In my humble opinion."

thank you @Louis

urgh. New great question from the hot questions list

Q: How do I get my cat to wear a tuxedo for several hours?

JoshDMMy cat is quite dapper and handsome, and when we sit down for a candlelight dinner, he should have the proper attire. Therefore, I would like for my cat to wear a tuxedo. What is the best way to get my cat to wear a cat-sized tuxedo? I think he should be dressed for several hours. I do not ...

Neither of my cats would go for this.

the cat will be really happy...

@ShadowWizard I prefer the bottled dragon one
In December 2003, David Hart claimed to have found a pickled dragon or, more precisely, what appeared to be the foetus of a winged reptile-type creature preserved in a tall jar of formaldehyde in his garage in Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire; he then showed it to a friend, Allistair Mitchell, who runs a marketing company in Oxford. The pair had told the press that the dragon was found with documents suggesting it had been offered to the Natural History Museum in the late nineteenth century by German scientists. Mitchell suggested it was an attempt by the Germans to discredit their British c...

@DroidDev I voted to close as asking for an offsite resource because I don't see the OP currently having compiled anything at all. I would expect soemthing like: I compiled with /cpu:armv7 but I also need the stuff compiled for all other supported platforms in the NDK. Is there an easy way to do that?
Do note that I'm not an android dev...

That is very unprofessional.
The cache should get a talking-to for that.

If we could flag the cache it might get banned...

11:37 AM
That would probably be bad for performance.

Has a change been made to the low quality filter recently? The queue normally tops out at about 30, but it has 170 items in it atm

Ah, Many thanks :)

I flagged it

Should this have become an audit?

[tag:cv-pls-dup] https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22809561/require-js-check-if-unnamed-module-is-specified-defined
[tag:requirejs] does not get a lot of volume of visitors so this could linger long enough to get answers.

@JanDvorak not really, It got a spam flag(s) that were approved hence landed in the low quality queue as spam audit.

@ShadowWizard I mean, it's on-topic for the question

12:18 PM
@JanDvorak but it still obvious advertisement for a product. IMO deletion is justified, spam not.

@ShadowWizard ok, thanks.
Also, the username is spammy, which could have contributed towards flagging

@Louis why duplicate? The older one clearly asks "How would one bind to requirejs events?" while the new asks "I want to require unnamed module in another requirejs' module, but only if it exists".
Also, as a side note HTTPS is still not supported, how did you reach the https version of the site?

@Shadow There is no RequireJS method to detect whether a module exists, short of loading it and getting an error. (And the term "unnamed module" does not make sense.)
@ShadowWizard HTTPS Everywhere (which works mostly fine).

@Louis so marking as dupe is far fetched... sorry, not familiar enough with the requiredJS (pun intended :)) to decide so no vote from me.
Maybe just close as unclear and be done with? :)
Guys, think this one is clear now and even got some merit, let's reopen?

12:30 PM
@ShadowWizard I agree. It's clearer now. I voted to reopen.

@JanDvorak That is the third post from that account

@rene one more, and your dream has come false ;-)

@JanDvorak His dream already came false:
4 hours ago, by ProgramFOX
@rene That's not true. The spammer has now three deleted spam questions but the account is still alive.

All my dreams come false... :-(

@ShadowWizard Fair enough. I don't expect anyone who can't evaluate the issue to vote to close. (Just as I don't vote to close when someone posts here a close request on a question I can't evaluate.) As for voting unclear, I think the code in the question clarifies the mistaken terminology since in fact the module is named in the code. Likely the OP meant "not initially known". I've added a comment regarding the mistaken terminology and the relation of this question to the other.

12:37 PM
@rene only three moderators in there, maybe they can't handle all the spam?

That is possible. I'm not saying that to critique the efforts of anyone.

Is it just me, or is this the 1337th day of the TotM?

@JanDvorak I did a tactical strike on that one. (Well, to the extent of my limited powers.)

@Louis Thanks. We need more soldiers, though

1:37 PM
Can you vote for reopening, please? See this question why.

@JanDvorak done

Argh. I already reached my daily maximum.

@JanDvorak robo-approvers won the second one, rolled back

@Qantas94Heavy thanks. Should the robots be flagged?
> Ionut Hulub has approved 79 edit suggestions and rejected 1 edit suggestions

@JanDvorak: in this instance, it's not quite as egregious as others, so not crap enough IMO.
@JanDvorak: oh, I see.

2:13 PM
this one will die by himsellf

I once flagged someone who had a 1085:4 approve to reject ratio; that flag got declined.

this one seems bad:
> Flot2011 has approved 235 edit suggestions and rejected 16 edit suggestions

heh, I flagged the same person @Qantas94Heavy. I know why it got declined, too.
@JanDvorak check his recent reviews, see if he's approving horrific stuff.
otherwise he might just skip things he should reject which is okay.

Some days I really feel like I should create my own suggested edit "audits"... ;)

2:18 PM
the question could do with being closed, too.

@Undo good point; voted

Hi everyone, has the idea of an "Recommend Improvement" for the low quality posts been discussed before? I asked, then deleted a similar question to http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/199053/low-quality-post-recommend-deletion-more-options

Since a common action in a lot of the answers I reviewed today was a comment that said "You have included what looks like an acceptable code snippet, but please explain the function, keyword or pattern you've used, linking to any documentation where possible.".
It's a quality problem, but "HEER, HAZ TEH CODEZ" rather than "I CAN HAZ CODEZ".

2:46 PM
@StuperUser there is "Edit" button in low quality review. You don't need to recommend improvement, you can improve it yourself by editing.

@ShadowWizard I'm happy to do that, but do we want to feedback to users who provide low quality answers like this, so they can get it right first time in the future.

Is it possible to still play the Unicorn April Fools addition to SE?

@JohnRiselvato nope, it's gone by now.

I'm glad I didn't spend actual money on that then... -.-

2:55 PM
@JohnRiselvato LOL you really should have tried

hey everyone !

You really think they would allow it? All the various possibilities led to "Can't perform this action", @JohnRiselvato.
Hello @TGMCians!
@StuperUser editing sends a notification to the user. He can see what was edited and learn from it. Sometimes it's better than leaving "your answer is bad, improve it" comment.

3:12 PM

yeah

@ShadowWizard can you rephrase this. I don't understand what you are referring to.

@JohnRiselvato I was referring to "spend actual money" on unicoins. I tried all the possibilities (Visa, PayPal, Bacon etc) and they all led to the same generic message. Bottom line, even if one wanted to spend real money on this, he couldn't.

stackoverflow.com/questions/14994391/… Isn't that too broad? Also, a SE employee with 131 SO rep reopening it doesn't sit right with me...

@Stijn it seems extremely useful, however

@JanDvorak A lot of questions that are currently off-topic can be extremely useful. Still, we close those.

No, it's too broad. Or do you disagree with that?

This year's April Fools was awesome. But it would also have been such an opportunity for the announcement that SE is finally selling out to Facebook.
With Jeff spewing obviously scripted PR garbage about how it's a great move for the network
Joel announcing that he's buying Coney Island as an exercise course for Taco
With the Oculus sale a week ago, the timing would have been perfect.
