yes, it looks like I got the bar all to myself tonight! ha ah ha!

@Stilly.stack crashes party

@Doorknob !Darnet you! Didn't I give you advice to stay out of taverns!

>:D

@Stilly.stack ...lol, I independently found that same thing and was about to post a cv-plz here as well :P

12:46 AM
@Doorknob Awesome! The first time I beat someone to it here! Well, at least you're the first one to admit it!

anything you'd like to talk about?

"It goes up to over 900 trillions, hundreds of times the Federal Government's budget..." But how does it compare to the Federal debt? :P — Chris Lutz Sep 1 '09 at 4:30
(Not particularly interested in serious discussion; it was just funny.)

What the heck is that?

@michaelb958 2048
...um, wait

... it's totally not. :P

Time (minute granularity) goes rightwards, count of questions asked on SO goes upwards.
(Total is orange, not closed is blue, not closed and answered is red.)

... so what conclusion are we supposed to draw from that @michaelb958?

2:11 AM
There are lots of questions. And/or that most questions aren't closed (which could mean either there's not much crap or not much closing of crap, or that crap's getting deleted). And/or that unanswered questions are more common than you'd think.
So any conclusion you like, really.

How about pretty graphs are pretty?

2:41 AM
Since when did the community user start editing out profanity automatically from posts? I've never seen it before, but it just tackled a question from half a year ago so I assume it's new. Is it?

@jmac Linky?

@jmac Uh..
:P
Oh, @jmac good luck in the election. You'd be a good mod. :D

Oh.
Why was it approved by community user then?
Ah, proposed by an anonymous user
@hichris123 And thanks. We'll see how it ends up.

And... download complete! I can now switch to my tablet. :D
@jmac 5 people for 3 slots, right?

2:51 AM
@hichris123 6 now. Two of the pro tem mods, and 4 of the hoi polloi (although two are mods elsewhere).

Hello, any mod here ?

I haven't seen one posting recently @Kedarnath, but one can always be pinged if need be. What's up?

Its regarding one of the flag.
The user is suspended after my flag, but my flag is still active
So wants to talk about it.

@Kedarnath It's probably because someone else noticed it (possibly a mod) and they haven't gotten to your flag in the queue yet.

So Do, I have to wait till a mod reviews my flag ?

3:04 AM
What do you mean?

In my flag history it is showing "active" state for flag , which normally result "helpful" or "declined" once the action is over
but still it is showing "active" in my case.
So As if you are saying that my flag still is not reviewed, then that means I have to wait for it. right ?

Yeah, but probably when it is reviewed it will be marked as helpful, since the action was already taken.

Yes, I was in under impression that , once the action is taken , all the users who has flag for that user, their flag gets results automatically.
Lets see what mod says about it.
@Shog9, are you here ?
@AnnaLear , are you there ?
@animuson, are you there ?

3 hours later…
the last one can be locked
I think....

in which case it probably deserves some pruning as well

I don't know javascript, but I said that because it is an old question with lot of upvotes
and usually these kind of questions come under historical lock category

@Kedarnath which posts did you flag? I see a few active flags in your history, but they're "recommend closure" flags. those aren't handled by moderators directly; they go into the "close votes" review queue instead.

I closevoted as a resource request even though it isn't. Downvoting the answers is too late, and nuking all of the link-only ones would make this question unanswered.

6:25 AM
What is a resource request?
I don't know about it either

I mean gimme-a-link

@JanDvorak nothing?

@AnnaLear it's a bunch of links. Everything wrong with link-only answers: bad example, good hiding place for spam.

It's a perfectly good on-topic question. The answers happen to be pointers to different tools, but that's never a problem in and of itself.

@AnnaLear they serve as bad examples for future answerers

6:29 AM
If the answers are pointers to different tools, then shouldn't it be closed as primarily opinion based
?

That's not a reason to close a question that doesn't, objectively, need to be closed.
@DroidDev how do you figure links to tools that solve the problem are opinion-based?

would pruning the answers be a good approach, then?

There's also this answer which is quite good.
I don't think there's anything that needs to be done on that question. I see zero spam answers. (There are 3 deleted ones, but even those aren't spam.)
You're looking for a problem where there isn't one.

those three zero-scored ones are nothing but links

So what?
Sure, that makes them subpar answers. They could be improved with, say, usage examples.
If/when those links break, the answers will need to be removed.

6:32 AM
does that mean that link-only answers are perfectly acceptable for questions that can be answered with a tool?

There is no rule here that applies in 100% of the situations. I personally tend to be more lenient on "link only" answers (although I find that term gets misused a ton) when they are otherwise relevant to the question.
I just don't see why an answered (and answered well), on-topic question should be closed on a pure technicality because it might attract bad answers or might give someone somewhere the wrong idea. The latter is definitely a concern, but not as much as one might think on a site the size of Stack Overflow.
There is bigger (in the "much crappier" sense) fish to fry, honestly.

Do I understand correctly you disagree with Shog9 on this one?

With all that said, I converted one of those answers to a comment and left a comment under the other.
@JanDvorak No, I think the answers on this question fall into the "And all those other answers with links in them" category in his post.

good point; they are pretty close to link-only, however.
I'll try to keep that distinction in mind. Thanks

Yeah, this is definitely borderline. My issue isn't with trying to preserve crappy zero-score answers. It's more with the notion that we should close the question over them. :)

6:41 AM
I've already retracted my closevote; you are right the top answers are good.

Awesome, thanks.

6:57 AM
@AnnaLear, on my stackoverflow profile , 3rd from the top

@Kedarnath yeah, it's unhandled. nobody has looked at it yet, far as I can tell.
You don't flag users, you flag posts.

but the user is already suspened for a week

that doesn't matter, since see above - posts, not users :)

So will it turn to "helpful" when mod reviews my flag ?

@Kedarnath yeah, I just dismissed it so you should see the status updated.

7:00 AM
Yes, now it is showing "helpful" , Thanks :)

any time :)

7:21 AM

7:35 AM
morning
@JanDvorak Yes, that's an answer.

doesn't it falls into category of too minor edit
ok, rollback is done now.

@DroidDev Yes, on top of that it's wrong, changing Android to Android.

@DroidDev yes indeed, bolding random words does not improve anything. Should not be rolled back (yet another useless revision) but shouldn't be approved.
Yet another nail in the current suggested edits review process.

is there any provision to deduct +2 points when this kind of revision is rolled-back

How high is the answer ban limit set on MSO? This guy should hit it soon, no?

7:42 AM
@DroidDev already suggested, too lazy to go and find it on Meta :)

ok thanks.

@Stijn yeah, he's the trolliest troll I've ever seen
"Anti Jeff Troll" is a fitting title for him, but he does make funny points sometimes.

read his "About Me" section. "I AM AWESOME"

Hey guys, what you think of a little game here in the Tavern?

@ShadowWizard found the request

Q: Reject an already-approved suggested edit when rolling it back

BoltClock's a UnicornI just had to roll back about a dozen incorrect suggested edits that were approved, because all they did was litter backticks all over random words and phrases and calling it improved formatting. This is just one of the less exciting cleanup tasks I've taken it upon myself to do, as these edits ...

@ShadowWizard I am bored playing swordigo on my device.
Please tell what I have to do here????

7:49 AM
@DroidDev Yep @DroidDev that's the one

My suggestion is simple: Word Association game, with focus on Stack Exchange, at least in the beginning. Does it have any chance?

OK... this is definitely not an answer: stackoverflow.com/a/22755683/499214
edit, or flag?

that is interesting @ShadowWizard

@JanDvorak it does try to answer but fits better as comment. Already flagged asking to convert it, sorry for stealing your flag! ;)

7:52 AM
I posted a comment, will would likely flag soon.

I don't think this is related to programming

@DroidDev fits "too localised" perfectly

The itself is fine, can be considered programming tool but yeah, that question isn't that good.

not sure if POB fits perfectly; any better idea?

I guess "Jon Skeet" also agrees with us.

8:02 AM
Jon Skeet is actually a bot written by Jon Skeet.

accidentally almost flagged Jon Skeet's comment.
again a too-minor contender

@DroidDev is there anything else to fix?

> Anything to viber .... It can just open viber ........... What should I do ????
So yes :)

@Stijn the complete line is This Code Doesn't Sending Anything to viber .... It can just open viber ........... What should I do ????
by which OP means that code doesn't send the copied text in clipboard to viber, but just opens viber
which is perfectly understandable to me, and I don't think needs to be edited, until you just need to correct the grammer

8:19 AM
also, the newest answer seems to be too much of a self-promotion

what does CV-PLS means?
I find it a lot on chat, but couldn't understand its meaning

@DroidDev It's understandable, but the edit was too minor indeed, not fixing those ..... and ????

and nothing else. I was just pointing out that edit is too-minor

@DroidDev closevote, please

oh!! ok.

8:33 AM
Unbelieveable. I was looking for something I was sure is impossible but thought "why not, let's give it a quick try". Guess who wrote the answer that appears first in Google search?
That's right!

A: A generic list of anonymous class

Jon SkeetYou could do: var list = new[] { o, o1 }.ToList(); There are lots of ways of skinning this cat, but basically they'll all use type inference somewhere - which means you've got to be calling a generic method (possibly as an extension method). Another example might be: public static List<T> Cre...

time to play swordigo on Android again

@DroidDev OK, will start the game I mentioned before. The rules are simple: I post the first word then other user can reply with associated word. The reply should be chained so we can follow the chain upwards. No time limit, only single words allowed. I don't have high expectations, but worth a try! So the first word will be...
Unicorn

animal

@DroidDev he said "chained" = replied to (complete with an arrow like this one on the left here)

oh.. sorry, still learning things
@ShadowWizard animal

8:47 AM
@DroidDev Beast

@DroidDev pig

lol, conflicts!

what's the conflict resolution algorithm?

@ShadowWizard Draculla

In case on conflict, the one who want to post new word should reply to the latest word posted, so even though the chain might be off it won't be broken.

8:48 AM
oh, in that case, I just went all the other way around

No harm done, @DroidDev you have the last word ATM and by the way Draculla is not beast! ;)

@JanDvorak appetite

@DroidDev bon

I'm off for now, keep playing! :D

@ShadowWizard define "beast". It'a bat 50% of the time

8:52 AM
@JanDvorak how is bon related to appetite?

@DroidDev "bon apetit"

@JanDvorak elephant

@DroidDev tusk

@ShadowWizard dusk

@JanDvorak twilight

9:00 AM
@DroidDev that was a terrible movie
@DroidDev vampire

@JanDvorak still a synonym to dusk

Another rule: words can be repeated after at least 10 other words were posted before.
@JanDvorak help ;)

@ShadowWizard what?

(like I said we better keep it somewhat focused so it has better chance of surviving in this environment. Now thinking about it, also better have rate limiting so we won't spam the room. What you think is reasonable limit? :))

oh.
in which case,

Baba is copy pasting exact same spam as yesterday, looks like whatever auto blocking mechanisms were used no longer exist. :(

maybe there's not enough volume to trip them?

@JanDvorak Tim Post handled this Baba before, so I think the volume is already enough

I'm going to flag a link-only answer on math.se. Wish me luck.

9:26 AM
@JanDvorak good luck!

@ShadowWizard thanks :-)

I went q-banned on a section where I'm new immediately after opening a bounty

@Revious You have one question there with a score of 3. How many deleted questions do you have? (I can't read them, btw)

4 deleted.

You need to undelete your questions and try to improve them.

but I've got a really low rep since I opened a bounty
I cannot..
they went deleted by community bot
I would prefer to disassociate them from my account and open them improved

OK, then I can't help you any further. I think @ShadowWizard suggested you contact the SE team last week, concerning your question bans?
@Revious You can reach them on team@stackexchange.com
I also see you are suspended on cogsci because of your question quality. You'll need to try and pay more attention to the guidelines of the sites before asking questions.

@Stijn I would like to ask you to take some time reading what happened on cog.sci
I've spent hours documenting the superficial action of the moderator there
He (the moderator) said he will not keep into account my suspension

@Revious I can't help you with that, I'm unfamiliar with the site. You'll have to post on meta.cogsci.stackexchange.com and ask for an explanation. It's a temporary ban indeed.

9:49 AM
@Stijn I know, I know, it was just to say that I'm very more precise of what you can think
It's related to perfectionism
also my psychological type is INFJ

@Revious Right. Well like I said, best to contact SE on team@stackexchange.com, explain your situation and perhaps they can come up with a solution.

which is introvert - intuitive...
@Stijn: thanks!

@Revious You're welcome. Good luck!

This guy asked the same question twice (but with less information the 2nd time around). His excuse is that the first question did not get an answer he liked, so stackoverflow.com/questions/22755679/…

@Louis I left a comment for the OP and a link to a relevant meta post

@rene Thanks. It seems to have had the desired effect.
@rene Well, the question is gone. I don't know if it has had the effect of educating the OP.

@Louis Are you sure exec can expand environment variables like this %SIKULI_HOME%? I'm pretty sure the .Net variant Process.Start doesn't...

10:54 AM
@rene exec is supposed to start a shell.

Ah, and the shell will expand the environment vars... OK

@JanDvorak quality

@rene I've added the HOMEPATH method too. I would expect exec to handle the command exactly like if typed at the shell. That's how it works on *nix machines at least.

@ShadowWizard error: cycle too short (2)

is it possible to have an account only on MSO and not on SO?

@DroidDev sure, I intend to make it ever going, or more likely until a mod will kick us out :D

@ShadowWizard we should be create a different chat room..... ;)
Fun on MSO chat

@DroidDev yeah, but having it here is more "special". If we'll see it's flooding I'll create a new room.

this edit was done by a 35 ker...!!, is it really necessary to include a bracket in the code?
I used to think of that as too-minor

@DroidDev include a bracket? He fixed the formatting

@DroidDev It's not just the final bracket. The editor also moved the first line into the code block. Bad formatting impairs the readability of the question. Not minor, as I see it.

ok, got it
ok, edit #3 is definitely too-minor
i try to I tried,, really, and title is Improved Formatting!!!

@DroidDev there's not really anything else to fix
well, the first paragraph is kinda useless

11:38 AM
And the example part could do with improvements..

@DroidDev as for edit summary, since it's mandatory for suggested edits and most users are too lazy to write it every time from scratch, they copy paste a predefined reason. (or just use auto complete ;))
I've seen edits with "jdsigsg sigtsj" as the reason so what you saw is not so bad.

11:52 AM
[tag:cv-pls] https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22679369/can-we-use-javascript-class-with-require-js
This one has lived too long. Either the duplicate I've given is correct, or there is some specific problem the OP is encountering that he's not mentioning.

@JanDvorak my point is that we are perfectly able to understand the question with i try and there is no need to suggest this edit. Which according to me doesn't improve the value of post.

reject if you must; I wouldn't.

@DroidDev grammar and readability are also of value. If bunch of "i" are the only problem with a post, fixing them to "I" is not too minor in my opinion, unless the post is old. (i.e. no point bumping just for that)

12:08 PM
@rene Doesn't too broad in this case just mean OP has no idea what he's doing AKA minimal understanding?

@Stijn there's no more "lacking minimal understanding" close reason.
I think 99% of the questions on SO can be closed with that reason, lol

I don't know. I can't read the mind of the OP. What he is after would require a lot of coding and delicate handling of cookies and redirect responses, if possible at all. Too broad, at the moment. He has no clue yet, he willl find out once het looked ad he fiddler trace...

The minimal understanding reason might have been abused but in some case that's exactly what is happening. OP asks about problem with X, but A, B, C, D, E, [the whole damn alphabet] are also faulty.

@Louis = too broad

Hi folks

12:12 PM
Hi @mehow

@JanDvorak yeah, I realize we can use "too broad". I don't like it as much as "minimal understanding" for cases where the OP lacks minimal understanding.

can I ask a favor? Can we re-open this question? it was closed but edited since then and now I think it is clear

@ShadowWizard I know, what I meant is I thought the too broad reason would be misused here.

Hi @rene

I voted to reopen. It still is a bit of a low quality question though...
But it is answerable
@ShadowWizard isn't that a little bit harsh? It looks like the OP re-used the code of that answer to improve his question...

12:21 PM
@rene it's exactly the same thing as the original code, synthetic sugar. The error is quite clear and obvious, for those with basic understanding of C#.
I didn't vote to delete, just downvoted and explained why.
Anyway the code is... weird. Considered to answer but not sure what the OP is using there.

OK, I really need to learn to look at posts like you do, otherwise we have to...you know.

@rene oh no, not the "d" word! :D

@ShadowWizard Your answer is not what the OP needs I guess
I would expect he want to iterate over the Cells and store the value of each cell in a List<String>

wait a minute.

(the first one also had "thank you." right after it and the exact same indentation as well until it was edited)

@JanDvorak it is gone

@rene my initial thought, but I looked into it and Range object got Cells property which is... Range object as well. Which indeed got a Value property that is an object.
So looks like he's trying to parse for some reason the raw data, which is valid.

Hmmm, we will see...

@Doorknob sock or plagiarizing? Link to question?

@rene I have no idea. Google returned an entire 4 results for that string. One of which is a so, so, maybe?
nevermind, @ShadowWizard for the win :)

> Dhinka chika definitely doesn't have a meaning. Not in Hindi at least. Though, it sounds close to a commonly used, I'd say local word, dhinchak. Dhinchak is generally used for something very good, interesting, superb etc. It seems Dhinka chika is a ringa ringa version of Dhinchak only. Either way, it's made to be danced upon. So dance up. Dhinka chika!
The author just meant for us to dance.

Well, I am from India, and seen this movie, although doesn't like it much

OK, I'm dancing now...
