@Undo Ping me if you find out the problem; I have to do homework so I'll stop watching chat for a while (/cc @TheWobbuffet)

@Doorknob So how do I work this thing?
What are the special keys?

@Undo it's a userscript
the shortcuts will show on the action buttons (close, leave open, etc)

yes, but what buttons make it do things?
ah
ok
nope, no worky
Ran it from the console. This is what happens.
Although [F] works!
now I shall test the others.
[d] works
wow, this does work!
:D
^ Except that part

rofl :D
okay, so there might be a bit of a problem

just a bit

12:08 AM
"SG" (close as primarily opinion based) is even starting to seem usual :P
lol, the labels are doubled every review :(

Anyway, good luck with your homework.

What d'you reckon hichris123's got other than lots of flag votes that I don't?

status-the-limit-is-50-after-the-first-dash

@Undo So.. you finished them? :P
@Undo Wait... what is this? CV? Me wants to help!
@TheWobbuffet Um.. basically nothing. :P
Maybe a bit more time on SO.

12:32 AM
@Doorknob nice, I have something similar (more mod-specific, bookmarkleted, and broken, though)

@TheWobbuffet sigh Obj-C is worse than Java. I ❤ Java.

@hichris123: how DARE you? Java sucks and you know it.
2

Well.... If you don't know Java it's bad. If you do know Java, you love it. So... apparently you don't know Java @Qantas.
@Doorknob What's wrong with it?

12:36 AM
@hichris123 scroll up, right before the status tag spam :P
look at the screenshots

@Doorknob nvm, your script does something else. Mine gives one-click close+review

@Doorknob The multiple thingys? Or just it doesn't work?

@hichris123 the multiple stuff :P

@Manishearth That's... very mod specific.

@Manishearth mine gives 1-keypress leave open, 2-keypress close -> some option, 1-keypress edit/skip

12:38 AM
@Doorknob sigh Make @Manish, o JS master, work on it. :P

@hichris123 no, the buttons are different. I meant physics-specific actually
But it's old and broken and on my Windows Chrome

back to homework... -_-

/me studying for math
I already gave you guys pretty graphs, I'm all JSed out for the week :P

@Manishearth That's not an excuse. You're a physics student. Physics == math. :P
Or something close.

@hichris123 /me studying for physics

12:40 AM
Heh. Then study for math.

->_<-

Why isn't there a remove star button for non-room owners? I simply can't take people bashing my language. :P
@Doorknob You make me clone to desktop...

@hichris123 Just copy/paste into console

@Doorknob Nah, I want the Sublime aspect (the highlighting, etc).

then copy/paste to Sublime :P

12:43 AM
Good idea. :D
And... done.
@Doorknob I just saved it as Doorknob.js. :P

:P
mine's called closescript.js

@Doorknob Um... it disables all buttons when I do that... :P
so confused

@hichris123 Really? Not for me...
what happens when you press F?

@Doorknob F5? Nothing.

no, F

12:47 AM
Still nothing.
:P

hmm. :/
so when you copy/paste into console and look at the buttons, what do you see?

Window
Infinity: Infinity
Okay then... :P
@Doorknob The buttons. Nothing different.

:( what browser?

Chrome.
Version 33.0.1712.4

meh. You're running this on stackoverflow.com/review/close ?
wait, I know why! :O
you have to type resetToStart() after pasting it in
which is a bug that I shall fix right now

12:49 AM
Oh, okay... :P

@Manishearth How is it diamond-only?

@Undo He meant Phys only.

@Undo physics only

@Doorknob I'll look more in a minute... or two.

@Manishearth ah. ok

12:55 AM
@Doorknob Well it works... ish.
@Doorknob I might have fixed it...
Well kinda.

1:46 AM
There's no hope for me in the election, but I don't feel like withdrawing

@TheWobbuffet No reason to.

What do you guys think about these suggestions? meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/217514/…

@TheWobbuffet Don'w withdraw, your graph is the only one that's fun-looking ;-)
the rest are all boring

can someone post the updated vote counts / positions here please?
i'll star you

I'm not familiar with Bohemian, why is he so popular?

\_o_/
He is the highest repped person

these vote counts look very similar to how chip counts would look in a poker tournament
@TheWobbuffet Is all in!

2:17 AM
I love that all of my meta flags are either: comment flags, dupe flags, off-topic flags, or spam/offensive flags.
But almost all dupe flags.

@Undo: except for you, all the users in the top 10 have at least 20k

3:09 AM
@Doorknob Yeah, I know. Having a Paypal issue that is delaying that, and also cause me to consider if I even really want a blog anymore. Most indicators point to no.

@TimPost You could blog about the joy of destroying spammers... and being lord of the swag.

The thing is .. mechanics tend to drive clunkers. Electricians have wires hanging out of their front porch. Carpenters have steps that sink when you use them. I write all day, and the last thing I really want to do when I have free time is write more.

Heh. Though you could just make it a part of your job...

3:37 AM
I want to read blog posts about destroying spammers and being lord of the swag, @TimPost.

What percent of SO CMs were moderators prior to their hiring?

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: CONTINUED FROM THE ABOVE SECTION on math.stackexchange.com

@jmac Me, Grace, Jon, Anna Lear, Rebecca Chernoff. Anna since moved to the dev side of the force. Rebecca moved to the dev side of the force as well, and then moved on to other things.

Wasn't Marc also a mod before he became a dev?

Yep. Marc was a mod before he came on
As for the current team, 3/8 were moderators, or roughly 37.5%.

It just feels like my eyes are deceiving me not seeing Anna on that list...

Rebecca, Grace, Anna and myself were all pro-tem, elected, then hired, though Anna and I weren't pro-tems where we were actually elected.
Strike that, I don't think Rebecca was ever actually elected.
@animuson Anna is still very much around on our team.

5:44 AM
But she's not on that list! :(
She's hiding from us...

Q: Why in the World has a Question on Algorithmic Trading Not Been Deleted Yet?

John SaundersI just came across "What technical skills needed for algorithmic trading, HFT, etc?" and immediately voted to delete. But that begs the question - why is this question from 2009 still here? Can we please do a better job deleting this and other old questions that are so totally off-topic?

So tempted to mention Programmers just to watch ChrisF hit the ceiling ...

@LaszloPapp: "I have tried using readonly collection, but have not had good results" is very much "not an answer"

Hi, I don't understand why these edits are getting approved. stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/4098507, stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/4098505 These are simple edits.
deleting "thank you" word in questions edits are correct?
Is it correct to ask my question here in chat?

@ThiefMaster: hmm?

@Praveen removing salutations is fine if they're fixing everything else wrong with the post
(no I haven't checked your links)

@Flyk this one is polishing a piece of steaming turd. Too minor by definition, I'd say

if it's truly a steaming turd, get rid of it
if it's still open, it's fair game

9:03 AM
@JanDvorak Thanks. I usually do that. Showing gratitude towards users who are reading their question is reasonably ok right?
because most of time I used to come across these type of edits

in short, by making these edits you are wasting your time on a post noone will read

I thought those edits will be rejected. But while checking they seems to be approved. Better to remind community

it's not really a bannable offence to approve these, though

@LaszloPapp some NAA flag you counterflagged, i don't remember which post it was, but the flag was pretty valid

@ThiefMaster sounds surprising given that @LaszloPapp flags a lot of link-only answers that @BenjaminGruenbaum keeps counterflagging as "valid, but flagged too soon" :-)

@Manishearth would having an at-sign be a sufficient criterion to call a question out?
@Manishearth bonus points if you call it "arobase"

10:08 AM
@ThiefMaster: OK, we can discuss it once you find the link.
until that, I cannot tell my opinion. :)
(but in general, I also make mistakes at reviews for sure)

10:35 AM
@ThiefMaster: hmm, I am not sure why you think I invalidated it, apparently mods can see that?
Either way, I thought the quote would be an attempt for explaning the issue.
if that is not correct, then it is not an answer for sure.

that looks like the exception message the guy got

yeah, I agree, on a second read.
@ThiefMaster: perhaps it is even better to move it into a comment?

10:56 AM
@JanDvorak I don't counter flag them. I just don't validate them

afternoon

@Manishearth the bot seems to be off (stackoverflow.com/questions/21880215/…)

Yup

@3ventic what's that userstyle you're using?

thanks, lemme look
have you seen my script?

Oh, I like this style
Thanks @3ventic

12:24 PM

ooh, old gravatars!

Somewhat improve my website design - done
I still think it looks kinda bad
but I'm no designer

12:39 PM
@hichris @Undo Fine, you've convinced me ;) I'm learning and using Bootstrap for my site!

1:29 PM
can one of you geniuses have a looksie at this and tell me where my obvious mistake is...

1:40 PM
@Flyk I have no logical explanation then, sorry.

yeah, this entire thing doesn't seem logical to me

@Flyk wait, is... that a typo question?

...?
is there a typo in my question?

maaaybe. I can't see one, but "something stupid" sounds like a typo.

1:55 PM
I'm pretty sure a typo in this instance would result in a syntax error

"No - pageContentCache after the insert has 22778 rows with one row duplicated while #contentcache has 22777 records with no duplicates" now I'm REALLY curious...

My usual Stack Overflow question: I post something that doesn't make sense at all, then few minutes later I realize my dumb mistake and delete the question.

@3ventic delay clicking the "send" button a few minutes, then

Yeah, that's what I learned
I get another pair of eyes on the issue so I only have to facepalm in front of one person, not 20-20 000 000

@3ventic Try spending 15 minutes on an answer, posting it, and deleting it within a minute because you realise your answer is wrong.

2:02 PM
I've done that too
But I learned that you can use HTML attributes without quotes.
and I got a badge!

also, a q-ban?

@Stijn I've done that before
Sometimes I should read the whole question before I answer it :(
s/Sometimes\s//;

Spaces in regexs always look wrong to me :(

Spaces in regex look weird.

2:07 PM
@rene by ddl you mean you want the create statements right?

I'm always scared it's going to break it for no reason

Yes, sorry if that was not clear

it's ok, this is starting to spread outside of my knowledge

@3ventic Ruby can even handle newlines

My code always breaks for no reason
Well... it's PHP so I guess that's a reason
but still

2:09 PM
If it's PHP, it's broken by definition
4

It gets kind of annoying when you have the code split up in 50 different files..

PHP is not broken by definition -_-

That's a lot of classes

huh... @rene - how long does SQL server cache query results for?
they're loaded in blocks right?
if a table is dropped, are the query results removed from cache?

I'm not sure, I believe that are hidden implementation details

2:14 PM
because... basically, without any changes, it's suddenly working as you'd expect it to work

DDL will commit a txn

@3ventic nice, _original.php

I dropped the tables (both the actual table and the temporary table) and recreated them, re-ran the proc that populates #contentcache and inserted that into pageContentCache and now there are no duplicates
using the same SQL that was causing me problems

@Stijn Backup

@3ventic source control? :)

2:16 PM
@Stijn Something we don't use
Probably should tbh

Oh dear :)

but I'm not sure how to set it up

now I've gone from confused to really confused

@Flyk hmmm, that sounds weird...

It's the kind of project that we edit on the fly anyway, only rarely doing it behind the scenes.

2:17 PM
@rene it's not like this is an issue specific to this particular customer site either, I've seen this problem occur on four different sites in the last month
our application captures the duplicates error when creating an index, which couldn't be reproduced

Are there any open transaction when that insert runs?

if there were an open transaction it would still be open, I've done nothing to rollback/commit

@3ventic Take a look at hginit.com when you have some spare time, it'll teach you the basics.

Not if that sp is issuing an implicit commit

At what point do you think a project is large enough to benefit from source control?

2:22 PM
It is a simple sql setup? Not a cluster with log shipping and fancy stuff like that ? @Flyk

yeah just a single server, run by the customer and on a nice server, but doing nothing fancy
knowing this particular customer they probably don't even do backups that frequently

@Flyk any auto generated ID's somewhere? Or do you generate all the numbers yourself?

@ShadowWizard they're auto generated elsewhere in the system - all element ids, which are unique
if there was a duplicate element id, the page that element appeared on wouldn't load, and we've had no reports of part of their site causing stack traces

If you see this it is always another objectId? Or is it always 21912

no it's not always the same object id
all seven times I reproduced it it was a different object id

2:29 PM
Is that objectid your last id?

no
in no instances has the issue occured with the highest valued objectid
not ruling out that it could happen, just that it hasn't
it's not the lowest either

you did create the temp table outside of the stored procedure?

yeah
basically, it was originally a stored proc called inside a stored proc
since the top level stored proc was failing, I ran through it section by section manually
the top of the query drops the tables and recreates them
the next section calls a stored proc and inserts all of the results into the temporary table so I could go through them before they were put into the search cache
then the contents of that table is put into the search cache
then indexes are created
I'm transferring a copy of the data over here so I can play with it until it breaks again
yay for 60gb of data

This is on a sqlserver 2008 or up box
?

yeah 2008 r2

2:41 PM
Can you do that duplicate check on pageContentCache with SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED;

2:51 PM
everyone be on guard.

yep,

Here we go again.

yup
