Or perhaps you can make tasty baked goods out of it?
00:42
@Unihedron Nope. Just right.
Although we all know this is really about you just wanting to show off your page theme.
I just found a series of questions on the same topic (advertising in user names) which almost certainly need dupe-closures or a canon/faq entry. However at the moment I'm not sure which should be the dupe target, and which should be closed.

Q: Permissible for display name to advertise another SE site?

Upvote Law Area 51 ProposalIs it permissible to use your SE display name to advertise another SE site or Area 51 Proposal? Is this scrupulous or laudable? I don't refer to my comment box. For example, could I change 'LePressentiment' to 'Commit to Law SE' to advertise the Law proposal?

A: Are user names that represent domains allowed?

Robert CartainoI'm not seeing the downside. If a user is posting good content, who cares what their user name is? If you're implying some sort of spammy-ness to the name they choose, I'm still not seeing the downside. They still have to post good content to get their name in lights. That's a net win to us! Q: Usernames as Advertising or Spam?

Time Traveling BobbyWhile doing some flagging (yes, I'm a little bit addicted) I stumbled upon the user StarWind Software. At first the case seemed clear, Spammer, but...and that's a big one, he seems to be a productive member of SU and SO (his account on SF isn't there anymore, but it's still in the Data-Dump of th...

At a cursory glance I vote second one as dupe target based on view count and question / top answer votes.
There is also a meta Q on the contrasting side - Inactive user accounts which appear to have only been created to advertise a product/service? - which says that it isn't OK to do this if you don't then post anything.
You could custom flag and request a merge too.
@JasonC I agree, except that the third covers advertising generically, like "SHOP AT BUY'N'LARGE"
which also covers the first, which is about "commit to {some Area 51 site}!" usernames
00:49
@doppelgreener At a less cursory glance I almost feel the exact opposite of what I just said; that the first should be left independent due to it being specific to SE sites, and the second and third should be merged. The second (domain names) is kind of a subset of the third (general advertising) but the answer on the second is a much better answer.
There's also:

Q: Policy on display names

MrStaticCurious on a habit I am starting to see on the trilogy. There is nothing stated on this in the FAQ so figured I would ask here. What is the policy on using a web address as your display name? Personally to me this feels more like spamming since the profile gives you a field for a web address. Jus...

someone tried to close that as a dupe of #2 above, I see :)
Yeah. IMHO that should also be merged into the third one you posted, or marked as a duplicate of the result (if it happens). I flagged them both.
I'm going to restart that particular close attempt, since that at least makes sense
@JasonC which ones did you flag in particular?
I'll support that.
00:56
@doppelgreener I flagged your second one and the one I posted, requesting consideration for a merge into your third one, with the opinion I gave here.
@JasonC ok, cool. :)
We need meta.meta.se.
proposes meta.meta.se , and only users with the pundit badge on meta.se can join

@Unihedron Good answer.
@doppelgreener Meh, they are slightly different. Spam vs another SE site vs URL

@bjb568 Yeah looks good woo hoo OK nice.
Good enthusiasm! pats on back
user259867
Not the same size. In the first image, the sentence does not flow: learn how to use ... interactivity with JavaScript? Also, spelling out CSS in full is weird. Nobody knows what cascading sheets are.
There's a lot of whitespace on the right and bottom though in your layout.
You know you deserve money right? You fucking saved a software involved with a 50 million dollars transaction. — Edgar Salazar Nov 6 at 3:06
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Does anybody really know what CSS is?
user259867
01:14
Also, the headings are pushed too far to the left. Centered would be better.
user259867
I meant that "cascading sheets" is something that doesn't even remotely mean anything. I imagine a reshelving accident at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
2
The Beyond section is very dangerous.
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Well, it looks like it's cascading type of style sheet.
user259867
01:23
Let's call programs in imperative languages "sequential instruction sheets".
@JasonC Bottom? What do you want there?
@bjb568 "minimal, self-complete example"?
@hichris123 Yeah?
@bjb568 You could extend the black over to the right maybe. Or find wider console text.
user259867
A portmanteau of "self-contained" and "complete".
01:25
Do I need to separate it?
@bjb568 There's no un-self-complete example...
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Self-complained?
2
user259867
I think "self-contained" is what you meant.
@JasonC No wider console text…
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Oh all right.
user259867
01:29
I don't know what vertical size constraints you have, but I would increase the line-height in description. Stingy with whitespace, again.
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Want it increased globally?
user259867
Yes, you use 18px font and I don't see any line-height set at all, meaning it's probably too small.
user259867
(it was 19-something for me, because Chrome zoom).
@BenjaminGruenbaum It's been taken care of. ;)

Looks better. The three-banner page is pretty wide; what will those poor souls with 1024 screens see?
something missing in bottom right ^
@cVplZ What do you propose?
user259867
Reflow is okay, I still don't like unequal height of rectangles.
user259867
@bjb568 On this image the height difference makes the page look pretty ugly.
01:47
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Can be fixed.
@bjb568 chat rooms?
@cVplZ Chat rooms in a courses listing? What?
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Herm… fixed height ^
user259867
^ approved. Maybe instead of repeating "add interactivity with JS" the second time, you could write something more concrete that would take up one more line.
02:10
Ugh, that one is only getting worse.
Also is it just me or is stackoverflow.com/users/2097529/… on a bit of a roll with invalid edits. stackoverflow.com/revisions/26835274/4 ?
@JasonC yes, he needs to be given a suspension from suggesting
@JasonC That might have been to reverse an upvote/downvote.
@cVplZ He has full edit privileges.
I see that now. very weird edits..
@JasonC I just try to make the format more readable. Have I done something wrong? plz lemme know so I will not do that anymore — Kick Buttowski 1 min ago
Doubtful.
02:28
@Rafflesiaarnoldii I didn't even notice I wrote that twice…
@JasonC I recognize that profile pic from invalid reviews.
That seems to have improved now tho.
Learn how to use semantic HTML, style with CSS, and add interactivity with JavaScript. You will:
- Build an accessible news site
- Make it beautiful with CSS
- Make interactive widgets with vanilla JavaScript
There ^
(me likey vanilla)
@bjb568 You're missing "...or else" at the end.
:P
Eh, I better leave out vanilla or people will get confused. Besides, it makes it wrap more.
And to get to the point, I'll make the first thing like "Learn how to build a website with HTML, CSS, and JS. You will:"
(from youtube)
02:52
@bjb568 You should have just said "Your point does not combat." and left it at that. Creating confusion is way funnier, and more productive on YouTube.
chat.meta.stackexchange.com is constantly in a loading state; is that happening for anybody else? I don't remember it being that way, and the other SE chats don't seem to do that.
03:36
@JasonC I appear to have voted to close this on Oct 10th
03:54
@JasonC Hm…
I could.
@bjb568 Maybe "UR POINT DOES NOT COMBAT"
user259867
Oh, SEDE does in fact have the Review data I wanted. Now I'm confused by de-queueing conditions. How can this, for example, be considered as positive outcome "keep the post"? Or even worse, this.
04:12
@Andy Yup, definitely an Android developer.
04:23
Since you guys seem to like giving UX advice, how's the tree here?
… seeing it, I think some of the description are awful.
Too much "learn about…"
IT'S THE LEARN SECTION
The line from Nesting to Manipulate CSS seems to intersect Objects nicely that I thought it's intended.

@AndrewT. I could apply a background on branches to group it better.
user259867
"loop thru" seems out of place
@Rafflesiaarnoldii NO IT DOESNT THRU IS PERFECT FINE!
user259867
I actually like the tree of topics more than I expected. The fact that HTML / Forms appear to be disjoint from JavaScript / User Input is kind of strange. What are these forms supposed to do without a script?
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Forms are purely an HTML thing.
And "User Input" should be "Popups" IDK why I said they're User Input…
@Rafflesiaarnoldii "NodeLists": You're welcome

Q: Romantic film from 80s or 90s

tigerI am looking for a film possibly 80s or 90s, has a bad boy with a motorbike who falls in love and the guy and girl kiss on his motorbike at the end. Can't remember what it was about or what it was called. please help.

You can ask on Meta Stack Exchange with tag "site-recommendation" with your expectation of the question you have in mind! This question is blatantly off-topic. — Unihedron 24 secs ago
user259867
06:05
@Unihedron Legitimate question. (Should have been more specific, though; but this is something for the locals)
OK
I had to approve for the awesome suggested edit comment: stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/6193629
... I think I just "abused" exact-dupe flag by upvoting the answer on the target, flag, then removing the vote... (the answer is VLQ after all)
@AndrewT. Well then when the CV reviewers see the task, and try to dupe-vote, couldn't cuz the system won't let them, and they leave open - flag probably going to get declined by the community
Well, my fault, but it's a lose-lose situation. If only I understood the blog, I could suggest an edit, but alas...
user259867
If the target is not really answered, the other question shouldn't be closed as a dupe of it.
06:15
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Yes, and it won't happen. The flag will remain active, but the reviewers can't VTC as dupe.
user259867
(BTW 80% of my upvotes on math were for the sole purpose of voting to close as a dupe. I left them in place.)
Meh, math.
user259867
@AndrewT. If you want to go all-out abusive, you can leave your vote in there until the question is closed, then edit and unvote.

user259867
@AndrewT. Sadly, it's nothing unusual for math. We need a built-in OCR or something.
06:46
@bjb568 Me likes!
Maybe try background-top and background-bottom in CSS so we get a little shading :)
user259867
Ooh rounded corners.
@Unihedron On the shaded branches?
@bjb568 no, the blue boxes
Ohkey
they might look slightly better
06:47
@Unihedron border
yes maybe a border too
user259867
Why units come so much after the box model? How are you going to describe boxes without units?
@Unihedron No, I mean background-top isn't a thing.
hold on
@Rafflesiaarnoldii cliffhanger?
06:48
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Well, everything can be in pixels before then.
@bjb568 background: linear-gradient(to bottom,#27709b 0,#24688f 100%);
@Unihedron Ok, that's different.
user259867
That makes sense. In the JS part, the topics are "data types", "functions", "objects", "popups". One of these things is not like the others...
Popups doesn't need love too? (background shading)
06:51
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Ugh, it's separate!
user259867
Popup box is meant to appear as a popup in the live version.
@Unihedron That looks awful.
@bjb568 :S
user259867
Separate, but still... the contrast with other, sensible, topics is just too much. Maybe "browser actions", include console.log there too.
singleton categories for consistency?
(pro-tip: everything sounds more sensible once you give it a proper name)
06:54
@Rafflesiaarnoldii That would work. I could put all kinds of misc stuff in there then. For example the location object.
"browser environment"?
@JanDvorak What's that?
@JanDvorak Too long.
Anyway, I need to go to bed soon.
@bjb568 instead of having a "help" top menu item, have a help top menu category, in which there is one menu item, "help"
