2:00 PM
@Bart what would it be? It's not the first such post.

Just kidding
Already flagged
And gone

Gone

@JanDvorak Nuked

thank you
> deleted after -Infinity +/- 5s

2:02 PM
My first flag on that site, put into good use :D

That's the only reason why I have 64 accounts. Spam flags.

damn it, my timer doesn't actually work
I'm not dividing by zero (I hope), so... where does Infinity come from?

division by something terribly small?

would result in something terribly big :-)

@JanDvorak where you see it?

2:06 PM
@ShadowWizard It's coming from my userscript
I need another piece of spam to test it

Where is black magic dude when you need him

@Jan -1, you didn't post your code ;)

What have you tried?

@Bart that's blacklisted on SO, you know?

OK, if you want to review my code, here it is: pastie.org/8660385

2:09 PM
One day I'll post something that says "What have you tried" LMGTFY and only has a jsFiddle in there to see if something explodes.

Originally I just wanted to share my disappointment in my own script.

What have you 'already' tried is how i usually go...

/me takes out smiting stick

@Jan what line is that division you mentioned?

2:10 PM
181?

yup
was too lazy to scroll that far

@ShadowWizard I only divide by constants, so... not sure where the infinity comes in

Don't see anything strange unless if dt can go haywire...

either updateTask.deletionTime or updateTask.creationTime must have gone wrong

Yeah, your only option.

2:14 PM
I suspect updateTask.deletionTime is the Infinity, is it coming from the API?
Maybe when post is deleted by automated process the API fails to return the delete time

If Math.min with zero arguments returns Infinity, that would be it, but then again why would there be zero arguments? I suspect L69

@ShadowWizard It happens on pages where I can't see deleted content, so deletedTime is based on the wall clock time.

"wall clock time"? :confused:

/me looks at wall ... sees no clock

2:16 PM
wall clock = real-time clock

Anyway, think I got it. The document doesn't contain any elements with class "user-action-time"
So Math.Min get no arguments and returns Infinity

unless the class is wrong, it should. I'll re-check
the user card contains such an element
Found it. ".user-action-time span [title]" should have been ".user-action-time span[title]"

Congrats!

an extra space has crept in. Not sure how, but I blame Notepad

I could have been sure that posting a suggested edit on SO would have resulted in a nearly instance accept regardless of quality

2:21 PM
Note to self: When raising the next sock, feed it nothing but trivial edits.

most of my non-arqade rep is from editing
today, though, I'm testing something

Uh-oh

> Notepad -> detach from the taskbar
> PSPad -> attach to the taskbar

don't worry, SO isn't what I'm testing
aww
it doesn't break

@Flyk nah, it's not THAT bad yet

2:23 PM
if you get rep on >10 sites in a day it just wraps onto a new line

spam still get rejected usually
Backtick edits on the other hand, are usually approved

@ShadowWizard the last word makes me sad

I was hoping for something other than that to happen

@Flyk an ellipsis?

2:25 PM
@Flyk yeah, I was also wondering few days ago what will happen. Cheers!

@JanDvorak yeah maybe
I was actually hoping for something broken
so I could get all the MSO reps

Same with hats, I was almost sure it will break design when someone will get too many hats

I imagine if you got like 40 sites with rep in a day it would look really horrible
but I guess if they hid the rest of the sites, there's no other place to get a general overview of your rep gains in a day
and people would just complain about that

what about a horizontal scrollbar?

@JanDvorak nooooo just not that

2:27 PM
Chrome's newest scrollbar looks real nice :-)

The F*ck What?
@Bart I casted that, cuz you deleted the possible duplicate comment.. which you shouldn't delete... so it clearly states that you wanted to divert the traffic to your question.. As a reputed user, you shouldn't delete those comments.. — Mr. Alien 2 mins ago

@JanDvorak shame they're planning on rolling it back since it was a mistake

wait, what???
where can I rant about it?

@Flyk if you want something to report, see what will happen when Skeet will reach 10000 bronze badges

@ShadowWizard HEH

2:29 PM
@ShadowWizard but only if he has >1k silver ones
how much does he actually have?

5350 bronze

641,882 reputation, 250 gold, 3918 silver 5350 bronze

Not even close to 10k bronze badges ... slacker.

yet

@Bart yeah, I prepared this screenshot a while ago but eventually decided not to report just yet

2:33 PM
what happens once he gets to a million rep?
does the reputation value start wrapping?

The feature-request should be that reputation and badges are transferred among less fortunated users until the reputation and badge count no longer screws up the layout of the site.

@user52800, there is really no need to bump year old posts for the sake of tiny edits. Every time you do so 3-5 people have to review your edit and it clutters the home page. I see that you're 33k on arcade so you already know that. — OGHaza 7 mins ago
-.-
SORRY RANDOM SO USER, I WILL LEAVE YOU TO YOUR LOW QUALITY CONTENT

I might have bumped a few wordpress questions

@Flyk sorry but I tend to agree... this edit is indeed too minor plus introduce new spelling mistake.
"whether there is" and "if exists" are the same
He should have Improved it and remove the spelling mistake but oh well

Myeah, the whole rollback- re-edit is a bit much.

2:41 PM
@ShadowWizard blah, that's what happens when you've spent the last 90 minutes submitting edits

Good indication to take break from the hard work @Flyk ;)

I need a shower, logging into SO makes me feel dirty

@Flyk yep, all good :)

I posted this question yesterday, and two people downvoted it:

Q: Incorrect reputation in dropdown

Ryan CarlsonI made an edit to a question today. Then this happened: There is no other activity on the question from anyone. I see no way this could be anything but a bug. Update: Now, the day after, it shows the correct amount of reputation EDIT: I just found out that 2 actually equals 4, so this is a b...

Any idea why, so I can improve it?

No clue. Seems fair enough.

2:53 PM
Now it's your turn @Bart :-)

I'm already writing research proposals here .... zzzz

3:09 PM
@RyanCarlson maybe people thought it too triivial, dunno... fair report anyway.

Is mail-search.apache.org down for anyone else?

Yeah for me as well

yep

@Nick you here?
Or @m0sa will do to

Yes! no more negative infinity

3:17 PM
Oh well, my question is: did you add this tooltip only recently?

> deleted after 192.382 +/- 5s

Very accurate, @Jan ;)
Why not nanoseconds? :D

should I crank up the polling frequency?

Nah, but IMO "deleted after 192 +- 5s would look better

so, round the results?

3:20 PM
Yup

Might do. Will do. Thanks

Maybe even "3 minutes and 12 seconds", if you're bored

milestone for the next version
do you happen to know what the argument to toFixed is?

@JanDvorak sure, amount of digits
not sure it's rounding though
wait

> The number is rounded if necessary,

3:24 PM
OK, it's rounding just fine
But using toFixed just to round doesn't sound right ;)

I want the string form, though
    $checkbox.next().text(
        "deleted after " + (dt/1000).toFixed() + " +/- " + (dte/1000) + "s"
    );

Yep, looking good

@Flyk @Flyk, yep - but you also get 1 up.

Firing up gitShell, then

Did you post it on StackApps already?

3:28 PM
nope, just userscripts.org and meta
and github
note to self: When creating a new script, create the dev branch immediately. And make sure your copy of the script updates from there.

@JanDvorak any reason why not add here? Not that I care that much, just curious :-)

I probably should

...userscripts.org . I was just browsing it some minute ago looking for a Greasemonkey surrogate that would work on IE. Must see if Kango could suffice.

My suggestion? Ditch IE

@JanDvorak - to say the truth... if you want Grease you may also ditch Chrome, Safari, Opera... Not that ditching Safari -5- is something I would cry for....

3:42 PM
I love Chrome

Actually I was thinking of attempting a script to replicate the bash hat wearing functions.

@ShadowWizard the only recent change was like 2 months ago for localization support, but it was there before that...

Oh my... totally missed that! Thanks @m0sa :)

np

3:59 PM
I just gave Shog 2 gold badges!
Well, sort of...
Look at the Recent Badges here: meta.stackoverflow.com/help/badges

4:14 PM
@RyanCarlson lol, serial badges!
Hope it won't get reversed... :D
BTW it can be see clearly here, two goldies in same minute

4:37 PM
I assume blogging is so old-fashioned that no decent recent desktop-client is available? Until now all I've found is either crap or only supported on a mac...

Desktop client? For reading?

No, maintenance, I need/want a backup/export of my current blog

5:09 PM
Can't believe someone downvoted this, just the facts:

A: Why placing the tag name in the question title is bad?

Lance RobertsThe main tag is appended to the title for Google searches (by being added into the title element), so it doesn't need to be added to the title. Ultimate Team Reference Answer Reference 2 Reference 3 Reference 4

I had a similar discussion yesterday where edited the title and left as comment to inform the OP about the reason for my edit. The OP was not amused... I moved on...

5:29 PM
Downvoted because meta.

5:39 PM
Such is the way of things. It is known.
Roving bands of meta thugs, downvoting perfectly legitimate posts. Haranguing users new and old with links and sarcasm. An environment of cold. A world desolate and unapproachable. A place of no hope, no return, no escape. META.

that's quite the perspective you have there (:

Yeah. And now, lunch!
=)

Oooh, what are you making us?

5:54 PM
Yay for new data dump!
Yay for new provider!
^ Probably not yay for that ;(
The speed is fine (maxed out my connection), but those errors might mean something bad.
> Announce error: Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker.

Wow. I wish I had that much speed. The maximum speed I get is like 120 - 150 kB/s

Whoa, all the beta sites are in the dump now!
So with archive.org, does bittorent still look for piers? I'm not seeing any - is it because none exist yet?

Do valid votes get recounted after a serial upvoting is reversed?

@AmalMurali I don't think so. But ask a dev.

Shouldn't they be?

6:03 PM
I dunno

Recounted in which way? Your rep is updated with every transaction.

I'll try to explain.

@TimStone I'm at a chain restaurant called Bruegger's Bagels. Want anything from there? =P

Say you get serially upvoted. And some of your answers got upvoted (valid votes) by different users. Now, after the first 20 votes by the user, you'll hit rep cap, and no more votes will be counted. After 24 hours or so, the incorrect votes will be invalidated, and the answerer will not receive any reputation from his correct answers.

@jadarnel27 Probably. =P

6:11 PM
Yeh, I'm thinking you get hosed in that scenario.

I think the votes for that day should be recalculated. Remove the invalid ones, recount the valid votes and give back the reputation.

@jadarnel27 I would downvote that if I could.

goes to Jon Skeet's profile and casts 20 upvotes

Did the font for code formatting in chat get smaller?

I think so.
That's how it looks here.

6:15 PM
Yup, here too

same font size as the rest of the stuff though

Joe
@jadarnel27 Hey, we have one of those here too (Chicago area)... pretty good bagels, even to my two year old :)

Yum bagels
Do they have brown bagels?

Joe
Brown = ?
wheat?
or something specific

Brown = Brown
@jadarnel27 will explain

6:21 PM
Surely bagels are "brown".

Brown enough for me, @Undo.
@Joe That's cool! Yeah, it's a pretty good place to eat. I wasn't sure how extensive the chain was, which is why added some context to my statement haha.
What is the message you were saying you'd downvote, @Bart? I can't tell on mobile.
Silly mobile chat interface.

Your description of Meta @jadarnel27.

Ohhh. Yeah. That's what happens when I get hungry.

Whatever you do, don't become a writer then. Wouldn't like to see you anorexic.

Well, I am a musician. Though thankfully I'm not financially dependent on that.

6:36 PM
Has anyone ever seen someone make a tag edit, and then edit it again, undoing what they just did? stackoverflow.com/posts/3607018/revisions It's basically a tag rollback by the same person.

"I'm a musician, but I'm not good at it." -jadarnel27

@JoshC Oh the times you wish you could just flat-out delete suggested edits to reverse them.

@Pops Why do I now imagine jadarnel27 as the musical equivalent of

@animuson Yes, they are potentially gaming the suggested edit system. 4+ so far.. i'm going to watch to see if they do that again.

Great revisions in the suggested edit queue stackoverflow.com/posts/21316200/revisions

6:46 PM
... when it already has the SQL tag ...

goes to write another mod message for syntax highlighting

@animuson Isn't that... overkill?
Latest project: putting every per-site meta post into a MySQL db to run queries and stuff on and maybe find something interesting.

Have you seen his revision activity? He has a bunch of them for adding C# highlighting to a bunch of C# questions too...

@animuson So... ?

@Pops Hey, I resent that! I have dozens dozen of CD sales on iTunes that prove otherwise (cc @Bart).

6:48 PM
I mean, it's not major enough to constitute a good edit, but... a mod message?

It's not like a mod message is a super-bad thing. It's just a message to a user...

Well yes, but...

People associate them to negatively because they have an optional suspension.

It's kinda scary :P

This is behavior that needs to be fixed.

6:49 PM
Exactly
Yeah, makes more sense now

"A gripping album filled with instant classics. A must have for every audiophile" - Not @jadarnel27 ... no really, I'm an actual reviewer

Hahaha
How did I never think of that? goes to prime the reviews
I actually was in a paid music gig for several years, before I resigned somewhat-recently.

We've noticed that recently you've made a number of edits to posts regarding syntax highlighting. Unfortunately, many of them did not actually improve the post. Syntax highlighting is primarily inherited from the tags. For example, a question tagged with [tag:c#] will automatically inherit C# highlighting for all code in the question, and therefore does not require a syntax highlighting language hint.

Please pay extra attention when performing edits to ensure you do not edit a post to add a language hint where one is not needed. Also, consider **adding the proper tag** to the question, whe

That sounds far too reasonable and not threatening or abusive at all. That's not why we elected you!

Sadly, the flags queue is back up to 1400. :( After all that effort last night.

7:05 PM
@animuson slacker. (;

Joe
How long does it take for 10k user flags to get automatically removed?
or does that ever happen?
I see 300+ flags in the 10k queue
and lots of them have 10+ votes on them
flags*

They never get automatically handled or expire.

Joe
So what's the point?

More flags bumps it to the top of the queue for moderators.
shrugs

Joe
Seems like that doesn't do much
then

7:08 PM
It doesn't, really.

Joe
Why not set up some of the easy ones - particularly NAA - to automatically be deleted when enough 10k users flag it?

Occasionally it will cause a particularly bad post to rise to the top, but usually NAA posts are not that "particularly bad" that it matters.

Joe
right
NAA are the main ones that 10k users can see
in the queue, so

I imagine they'll probably do some sort of automated flag-handling whenever they release the new flags queue, but who knows where that's at.

Joe
ah

7:12 PM
Seems like forever ago when they talked about it... Teasing us with the ability to handle flags individually...
@Rebecca Your pointy stick is needed! Get them moving!

Joe
Lol
good luck with that
so is there any real reason to review the 10k flag queue?
VLQs?

Because you want a shiny gold badge? :3

Joe
hmm
I think I have htat
;)

@RebeccaChernoff's chat participation shows a surprisingly disturbing pattern of calling people slackers, lazy, or just laughing at them ... hmmm

Well, those "invalid flags" flags do help us a lot, TBH.

Joe
7:18 PM
ah
quickly spotting ones that can be dismissed?

7:39 PM

@Bart heh, uh...oy? (:

:D

Yay, my script is working!
Importing all the per-site meta posts into a big table
Anyone have any suggestions for patterns to look for?

what are you doing?

@RebeccaChernoff I have all posts from every per-site meta in one table
All 139,000 of them

7:52 PM
I gathered that part (:

And now I'm looking to do things with the data :P

ah, didn't know if you had something you were already looking for

No, I'm just looking for patterns.

He has tables of comments he wants to flag
I bet he'll do the same with the meta posts

@Manishearth Hah! Good idea!
But no. Too much work.
select * from (select COUNT(*) as count, Body from (select Body from Posts where PostTypeId=1) p group by Body) a where count>1 order by count desc
^ Kinda amusing

7:56 PM
Ewwww.

Looks for duplicate posts across the meta sites
@jadarnel27 Yeah, but it works.
For example, this was posted 41 times throughout the metas:

« first day (1268 days earlier)      last day (3752 days later) »
